Anna V. Armstrong
Anna Verdean Armstrong, age 101, formerly of Andora Road, Carrollton, died Wednesday, August 28, 2002 in Aultman Hospital following a short illness. She was born on July 23, 1901 in Carroll County, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late George A. and Nina Mae (Nihart) Armstrong. She was a graduate of Kent State University. She had taught school for 35 years, having started teaching in one room schools in Carroll County, Brown Frame and Pumpkin Hill. She also taught in Newton Falls, Ohio and New Philadelphia, Ohio. She was a member of the former Washington Hall Grange. Survivors include one sister, Floy Hunt of Philadelphia, PA; six nieces including Astrid Pickering of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; 15 grand-nieces, nephews, cousins. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Armstrong, Helen Roudebush and Lillian Wingerter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Allmon-Dugger Hively Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. Jack Lumley officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held one hour before time of services on Tuesday.

Delma L. Smith
Delma L. Smith, age 79, of Massillon died early Thursday morning in Doctors Hospital. Born January 31, 1923 in Lincoln, NB to the late Wesley and Leola Taber. She was a member of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church and was retired from the Canton City Schools. Preceded in death by her husband, Jinks A. Smith and one son, Stanley W. Smith. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger V. Sr. and Sandra Smith of Massillon and Wesley Smith and Maria Tilton of East Sparta; four grandchildren, Roger V. Smith, Jr., Dustin M. Smith, Brian C. Smith and Curtis J. Smith; one sister, Iva Tyson of Gladstone, Missouri and two step-brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Gloria Taber and Max and Cathy Taber all of Alta, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours in the funeral home Friday (tonight) 7-9 p.m.
Delores June Dunn
Delores June (Campbell) Dunn, was delivered into the arms of her Heavenly Father on August 24, 2002, after a lengthy illness. Born February 25, 1936, in Cadiz, OH, to Samuel and Dorothy Campbell. She was raised in Malvern, OH, and graduated from Malvern High School in 1954. Former member of Malvern United Methodist Church. Delores and her husband, George Dunn had resided in the Alberta, Canada region for the past 42 years as missionaries to the Cree Indians, serving in many capacities. Preceded in death by her father, Samuel W. Campbell. Survived by beloved mother, Dorothy I. Campbell; sisters, Violet Meager, Martha Treadon, Deborah Beavers; brothers, Samuel, James, George and David Campbell and their families; she also leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, George Dunn and their children, John, Peter, James, Lois, Phillip and Joy; four daughters-in-law; and her beloved grandchildren. Delores was a faithful servant for the Lord and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be given by Delores' family at a later date, so local family and friends may share in a celebration of life. Matthew 25:21, Her Lord said unto her, Well done, good and faithful servant.

Logan Edward Woodring, age 7 days, passed away Thursday morning, August 29, 2002, in Aultman Hospital NICU. He was born at 12:14 a.m. Thursday, August 22, in Aultman Hospital. He is survived by his parents, Brian and Lori Woodring; maternal grandparents, Gary and Jennifer Kasler; and paternal grandparents, Henry and Peg Woodring; great-grandparents, James W. and Minnie A. Kasler, Carl and Geraldine Burnhardt and Margaret J. Kolesar; his aunt, Amy Kasler; and uncles, Bruce Woodring, John, Rob and Mike Kasler. He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Edward Kolesar. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Don Williams Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey E. Bullock officiating. Vaunnetta J. Betteker
Vaunnetta J. Betteker, 72 of North Palm Beach, passed away peacefully on Aug. 28, 2002. She was born in Uniontown, OH. She was a resident of Navarre, OH for many years, and moved to Florida in 1970. She is survived by her devoted husband, friend and confidant of 53 years, Robert L. Betteker Sr.; their five loving children, Robert Jr. (Barbara), Robbin Briley (Noel), Regina Appleby (Steve), Dr. Ronald (Dr. Theresa), and Ryan; her sister, Becky Colter (Jim) of Massillon, OH; brother, Dale Husted, (Marie) of Roostown, OH; her sister-in-law, Mary Joann Miller of Massillon, OH and Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Heather Hill (Will), Robert L. Betteker III, Rebecca Betteker, Eric, Kevin, Erin, Kyle, and Kate Briley, Hannah, Dalton, and Noah Appleby, Elizabeth Betteker; great-granchildren, Kaitelynn and Trustin. A wife and mother without equal, she was the secretary and treasurer of Betterker Ford and Century Ford in Ohio, a member of the Board of Directors of Lighthouse National Bank, and secretary treasurer at Beacon Financial Corporation, of Jupiter, FL. The family wishes to thank Shands Hospital, Jacksonville, FL; Drs. Abovitch, Rappaport, Li, DeOlazabal, and Marks, her caregivers, and the many friends that have been supportive during her illness. The family will receive friends at Taylor Modeen Funeral Home in Jupiter, FL, on Sunday, September 1, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., with the Wake following. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Clare Church, North Palm Beach, FL, on Monday, September 2, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach, FL, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2002. Velma Ruth Andorka
Velma Ruth Andorka, age 91, of Canton, died Wednesday afternoon at Manor Care following a brief illness. She was born in Canton on February 11, 1911 and had resided here all her life. She was employed by the former Schumann Drug Stores for 20 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple and Jolly Sixties. Mrs. Andorka was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1962; her parents, James and Colleda (Patterson) Dunn; sisters, Helen Vince and Meredith Montgomery. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John Terry III and Madeline Andorka of Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Vivian June and William Edwards of Canton; four grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Eileen Sollazzo of Canton. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Delaney Young officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to the time of services.
John P. Kaylor
John P. Kaylor, 85, of 222 Greenbriar, Dalton, died Wednesday night, August 28, 2002, in Dalton following a short illness. Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 3, at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville with Fr. Robert Kaylor and Rev. Mike McHale officiating. Burial will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman where military rites will be conducted. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 PM or one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. A Masonic service will be held during the Monday calling. John was born July 7, 1917 in Beach City, OH to Wilbur Earl and Mildred (Pfouts) Kaylor and married Betty Jean Neumiller on November 8, 1941. She died in 1993. In 1994 he moved from Dover to Dalton and lived with his devoted companion, Elizabeth 'Liz' Simon, for the last eight years. He graduated from Beach City High School in 1935 and joined the US Army in 1942. He served twenty years including tours in World War II and Korea. He retired from the Army in 1962 and was commissioned a \Kentucky Colonel.\In 1968 he served in Viet Nam as a Department of the Army Civilian as a systems analyst. John was a member of the Beach City United Methodist Church for over sixty years and attended the Dalton United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Tadmor Shrine in Akron, the Disabled American Veterans, Retired Officers Association and National Association of Retired Federal Employees in Washington, D.C., the American Legion, Cypress Lodge Free and Accepted Masons and the Order of Eastern Star in Strasburg, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Dover and a 32nd degree Mason of Louisville, KY. John was an avid reader and enjoyed watching baseball and football on television. Surviving are his companion Liz Simon, two nephews, Fr. Robert Kaylor of Canton and Richard (April) Kaylor of Northville Twp, MI and a great nephew, Robbie Kaylor of Northville Twp, MI. In addition to his wife Betty, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Wilbur Kaylor.
Margaret Marshall
Margaret E. McConnell Marshall, age 96, passed on June 14, 2002, at 7:40 a.m. at Centerclair Nursing Home in North Carolina, where she resided the past six years. Margaret was born May 22, 1906, in West Virginia to Alexander and Susan McConnell. She retired from Stern Manns, a member of First Christian Church in Canton, Triosis, Garden Club and Keenagers. She joins her husband, John Ellis Marshall Sr., who passed June 25, 1995. They were married 70 years. Also preceded in death was their beloved daughter, Eleanor Coleman. Celebrating life, her son John E. Marshall, Jr. of Wilmington, NC; eight grandchildren, John E. III (Jack) of Canton, Debbie Healey, Scott Marshall and Caprice Birdwell of North Carolina, Michael Coleman and Julie Britton of Georgia, Susan Kolb and Michelle Onofrey of Michigan; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Deemer of Florida. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of First Christian Church, Pastor Manley Pierce officiating with his wife, Anna Faith, organist. Several members of the family will reflect on Margaret's life. A private burial will be at Sunset Hills Burial Park immediately following the service.

Jean Ella Jones Mu, age 74, went home to be with the Lord on August 28, 2002 after a sudden illness. She was born on May 22, 1928 in Verdunville, WV and lived in the Canton community for 37 years. She was preceded in death by parents, Arthur and Opie McKinley; loving husband, Isaiah Jones Sr.; sisters, Madge Bland and Annette McKinley; brothers, Willie Wes McKinley, J. W. Garner; daughter-in-law, Pernessa Jones; grandson, Travis LaMar Jones. Mrs. Jones leaves to cherish loving memories to three daughters, Marlene (Gerald) Davidson, Denise Jones and JoAnn Williams, all of Canton; six sons, Isaiah Jones Jr., Kelvin (Judy) Jones, Bruce Jones, Keith Jones, Darnell Jones, all of Canton, Kenneth (Beatrice) Jones of Akron; sisters, Zelma Williams, Betty (Granville) Butler, Farris Hart, Ola Mae Clay; brothers, Henry (Florence) Garner, Charles (Sonja) McKinley, Arthur (Jane) McKinley; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Alice Elizabeth Thomas (nee Hayes), age 78, of Canton, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002 following a long illness. (COPD). Born Jan. 20, 1924 in Camden, SC to the late Gus and Isabella (Williams) Hayes. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and was retired from stark County Community Action Agency. Preceded in death by two brothers, Gus Hayes, Jr., James Weldon Hayes; one sister, Catherine (Hayes) Long. Survived by her three children, Ernest (Shirley) Thomas of Columbus, OH, James (Hope) Thomas of Montclair, VA, Marilyn Thomas Jones of Canton; eight grandchildren, James and Kevin Thomas of Canton, Veronica and Tiffany Thomas of Columbus, OH, Che' Thomas of Michigan, Monique Thomas of Philadelphia, PA and Elizabeth Burton Jones (Lamb) of Canton; eight great-grandchildren; she was the aunt of Beverly Rupert, Barbara Seymour, Gerald Long, Michael Long, Diane Tamru, Theodore, Charles Henry, Richard and Ethel Thomas, Donald and William Lacy, Carol Lacy McGuire and Sheryl Lacy Meadows. Marianne T. Weiss
Marianne T. (Tzangas) Weiss, age 48, of Findlay, OH., formerly of Canton, passed away Tuesday. Born in Canton, she was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church of Canton and the Upper Room Church of God in Findlay. A graduate of Glenwood High School, she went on to The Ohio State University to graduate with a B.S., and from the University of Indianapolis with a M.S. She was currently the Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at the University of Findlay. Prior to that she had been Assistant Professor at the University of Wheeling. The former owner and director of M.T. Weiss Community Physical Therapy in Canton, Marianne had been the Program Director for the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Stark State College, was the staff Physical Therapist at Massillon Community Hospital and Alliance City Hospital. She was a board member of the Ohio Polio Network, member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Marianne published several articles, most notably in G.I.N.I., a periodical devoted to polio survivors. She was preceded in death by her brother, Byron George Tzangas, June 4, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Terry Weiss; son, Theo of Cincinnati; daughter, Julia of the home; parents, Atty George and Venus (Mouskondis) Tzangas; brother, John Daniel Tzangas of Salt Lake City, UT; sister-in-law, Teresa Tzangas' niece, Victoria; and nephew, Weston Tzangas all of Columbus; father-in-law, William L. Weiss; mother-in-law, Peg Taylor, both of Canton. Calling hours were held Thursday 6-9 p.m. in the ROSSI FUNERAL HOME.
