Alice Holding
Alice Holding, age 95, of Canton passed Saturday August 10, 2002 in Canton Christian Home. She was born in Wigan, England on December 13, 1906 and was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Catherine Hill, two sisters and one brother all of Great Britain. Alice had served in civil defense during World War II. She married Thomas Holding who served in the British Army from the onset of WW II until his death in 1940. He was a survivor of the Dunkirk evacuation. Alice is survived by her cousin Clara Bond of Wigan, England; sons Thomas Holding of Cincinnati, OH, and Cyril Holding and wife Phyllis of Canton; granddaughters, Susan Mills and husband Russell of Wooster, OH, Nancy Hann and husband Larry of Dalton, OH, and Robin Holding and husband David Clayburg of CA; grandsons, Christopher Holding and wife Susan of Canton, and Thomas B. Holding and wife Lisa of Cincinnati, OH; and 11 great-grand! children. There will be no calling hours. A private family service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with interment of ashes in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal and St. Timothy's Episcopal Churches, where Alice was an active member who had volunteered for many years, or to Canton Christian Home.

Charles L. Maguire
Charles L. Maguire, age 84, of North Canton, passed away Saturday evening in Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Youngstown, OH, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Mary E. Maguire. Charles retired from Nationwide Insurance as claims adjuster after 35 years of service, was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter Men's Club, Holy Name Society, life member of the Canton Elks #68 and the Canton Claims Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, James Maguire. He is survived by his wife, Regene C. (Kruck) Maguire of the home; sons, Timothy J. (Elaine) Maguire of Massillon, Thomas C. Maguire of North Canton; daughters, Molly Jean (Wayne) Janson of Canton, Carol Louise (Thomas) Guedel of North Canton, Christine Ann Maguire of North Canton; sister, Justine M. Maguire of Canton; grandchildren, Michael and Joseph Janson, Jennifer Porachan, Anne-Marie Beris, Timothy and Mark Maguire, Allison McCue, Michelle Maguire; ten great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church with Msgr. John C. Finnigan as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call Monday (tonight) 6-8 p.m. in the Wackerly Funeral Home. There will be a Parish Wake service at 5:45 p.m. in the funeral home. Daryl W. Polen
Daryl Wendell Polen, age 46, of Minerva, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, from injuries sustained in an accident. Services are pending at the Bartley Funeral Home in Minerva.

Donald Matthews
Donald Matthews, formerly of Dormont, PA, died Friday in Massillon, OH, near Canton. He was the beloved son of the late Kenneth L. and Angeline Matthews, the faithful husband of Catherine Matthews, father of Ken Matthews and proud grandfather of Kaleigh Nicole. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Lakes United Methodist Church, 5944 Fulton Rd. NW, Canton, OH, with Rev. Janet Zimmerman officiating. Calling hours in the Reed Funeral Home Monday (TODAY) 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday, from 10-11 a.m.

E. Garland Tullius
E. Garland Tullius. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Lamiell Funeral Friends may call one hour before the service.

Frank A. Pauly
Frank A. (Bud) Pauly, age 81, of North Canton, passed away Saturday in Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Canton, he was the son of the late Frank N. and Julia C. Pauly. Served in the Army Air Corps, 12th Bombardment Group 82nd Squad, and retired in 1988 from Pinkerton and Laws. Frank was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter's Men's Club, Holy Name Society, and AA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Julia Sigler. He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Karam) Pauly of the home; brother, Lavern J. Pauly; sister, Mary Bergmeyer, both of Canton and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by two special friends, Betty Pauly, Thelma Karam, and all relatives, friends and benefactors. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church with Msgr. John C. Finnigan as celebrant. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call Tuesday 6-9 p.m. in the Wackerly Funeral Home. The St. Peter's Men's Club, Holy Name Society will hold a Prayer service at 5:45 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.

Frank J. Bihary, Jr. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. at the Welch-Sekeres-Lewis Funeral Home. Calling hours Monday (tonight) 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Glenna L. Ulm
Glenna L. Ulm. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren with Pastor Reid Firestone officiating. Burial will be in North Canton Cemetery. Friends may call Monday (today) 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Karlo-Feucht Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd. N.W., Canton, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren, 4152 Mt. Pleasant St., N.W., North Canton, OH 44720, or Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., New York, NY 11032. We cannot see her, but she is with us still. A mother like ours is more than a memory. She is a living presence.

James H. Hibbitts
James H. Hibbitts, age 70, of East Sparta, passed away Saturday afternoon in Country Lawn Nursing Home in Navarre. He was born in Wise, VA, a son of the late Duran and Drucilla Keith Hibbitts, and had been an East Sparta resident 34 years. He retired May 1, 1992, from the U.S. Ceramic Tile Co., after 34 years service, where he was a watchman and kiln worker. Jim was an avid hunter and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Ratliff and four brothers, Givens, Frank, Walter and Delmar Hibbitts. Survived by his wife, Joan C. Hibbitts, with whom he celebrated their 47th Wedding Anniversary on April 10th; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Paul Smith of Carrollton, and Debbie and Mark Blind of Waynesburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Cleo and Fred Wehr of Columbus, OH; one brother and sister-in-law, Hollis and Rose Hibbitts of Judsonia, AK; two grandsons, Cody Blind and Casey Smith. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Nancy Manner officiating. Interment in East Sparta Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 7-9 p.m.

John Owens Sr.
John Edward Owens Sr. (Bubble), went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 7, 2002, after an extended illness. He was born on July 18, 1939, in Brundidge, AL. He was a graduate of Sandy Valley High School and a former employee of Whitacre Greer and Republic Steel. Mr. Owens loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his grandchildren. He was united in marriage to Umbal J. Thomas in Dec. 1973. He was preceded in death by parents, Namon and Bannie Owens; brothers, James Haynes and Ross Owens; son, John Owens, Jr. He leaves to cherish precious memories to his faithful and devoted wife of 30 years, Umbal of the home; son, John Owens of Canton; daughters, Tiffany Owens of Cincinnati, Tessa Owens of Colorado Springs, Tikisha Owens, Tangi Johnson and Tina Friedman, all of Canton and Cheryl (Owens) Spraggins of Dallas, TX; sisters, Sherlene (Norman) Austin and Earlene Waiters, both of Canton; brothers, Frank (Jackie) Owens of Elyria, OH, Lewis Owens of Florida and Ralph Owens of Canton; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special cousin, Mike Owens and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m. at Rhoden Memorial Home. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until time of service. Condolences can be sent to and the procession will form at 1217 Lippert Rd. NE, Canton 44705. Interment in West Lawn Cemetery.

John W. Lamb Sr.
John W. Lamb Sr., age 75, of Canton, died Saturday morning following an extended illness. Born May 20, 1927, in Bald Knob, Arkansas, to the late William and Mary Lamb. Mr. Lamb was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Aultman Hospital in 1984 after 19 1/2 years of service. Preceded in death by three sons, Patrick, John Jr. and Tommy Lamb; three brothers; five sisters. Survivors include his wife, Shizuko of the home; four children, Ruth McCoury, Phillip (Pamela) White, Shirley Vogley and Katherine Lamb, all of Canton; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Christine Nimo of California. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Calling hours in the funeral home Monday (tonight) 7-9 p.m.

John Walt Braw Wheadon
John Walt Braw Wheadon, age 77, of Magnolia, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon in Aultman Hospital. Son of the late Forest and Bessie (Albright) Wheadon, he was a life resident of the Magnolia area. A 1943 graduate of Magnolia High School, he retired from the Timken Co. in 1977 after 32 years of service. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Magnolia and the American Legion Post #0432. He was a World War II Army veteran, where he served as a Staff Sergeant with the 26th Port Surgical Hospital. He is also preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Wheadon and one sister, Darlis Weisent. Survived by his wife, Joan E. (Swaney), to whom he was married 57 years; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Margaret Wheadon of Oak Harbor, OH; two grandsons, Jim and his wife, Dana Wheadon, stationed with the Army at Ft. Lenardwood, MO, John Wheadon of Seville, OH; two great-grandchildren, Devin and Brandon Wheadon; one sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Ray Noll of Louisville. Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. with Rev. Matthew A. Diehl officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m.

Juanita Fernandez
Juanita Ann Fernandez. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Patsy Coe Densmore officiating. Calling hours in the funeral home two hours prior to services, 6-8 p.m.

Lucy S. Nelson
Lucy S. Nelson, age 84, of Canal Fulton, died Saturday, August 10, 2002, at Chapel Hill Community, Canal Fulton. She was born June 27, 1918, in Massillon, and had been a resident of this area all of her life. She had worked as a homemaker. She was a member of Saint Mary Parish and it's Altar/Rosary Society. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael Nelson and his fiancee, Mary Nugent, both of Toledo, and Timothy and Lori Nelson of Stow; three daughters and one son-in-law, Suzanne Nelson of Washington, DC, Mary Lou and Eugene Smith of Canton, and Karen Black of Canton; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Alfreda Burkett of Jackson Twp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Nelson on April 8, 1978; her parents, Thomas and Anna (Berens) Burkett; two brothers; and two sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be Weds., Aug. 14 at 10AM at Saint Mary Parish with Fr. Edward Gretchko officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Perry Twp. Visitation will be from 6 to 9PM Tuesday at Heitger Funeral Service - Massillon Chapel, 639 First St. NE, where a scriptural service will be held during calling hours. Mary Anne Robinson Lukie, age 31, went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 9, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center. She was preceded in death by sister, Cynthia A. Robinson; paternal grandfather, Annias Robinson; cousin, Kevin Fontes; maternal great-grandparents, Green and Kathleen Ginright; two great-aunts, Grace Livingston and Lula M. Clax; two great-uncles, William Ginright and Homer Ginright. Mary Anne leaves to cherish her precious memories to her daughters, Tiffany J. Robinson, Tamara D. Robinson; son, Aaramis J. Robinson; mother, Maelean Robinson; sister, Tammy D. Robinson-Williams; grandmother, Tular A. Robinson; aunts, Annie J. Robinson and Mable J. Asberry; uncle, Joe L. Robinson; great-aunt, Agnes C. Hampton; cousin, Tracy T. Carter, all of Canton; special friend, Jerome L. Smith of Cleveland, OH; her second family, Godmother, Cherlyn Graves; sisters, Jenell Graves and Eva Graves; brother, Richard Graves; aunt, Ronda (Steve) Mathis; the Smith Nursing Home Staff and a host of other relatives and friends. Services celebrating the life of Mary will be held Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Greater Bethel Apostolic Church, where District Elder Ralph M. Byrd will be officiating and Elder Kenneth C. Williams will be Eulogizing. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, from 6-8 p.m. at Rhoden Memorial Home. Thelma M. Peel
Thelma M. Peel, age 87, of Canton, died Saturday morning, Aug, 10, 2002. She had been under a doctor's care. She was born Feb. 12, 1915, at Martins Ferry, OH, to Cortland and Ellen (Rothermond) Brokaw and had been a Canton resident since 1946. She was a 1933 graduate of Washington High School, Massillon, OH, past president of the Massillon PTA, and was a very active 56 year member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Massillon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Peel (8/26/1995), and a brother, C. Lewis Brokaw. She is survived by sons, Patrick L. and Thomas A. Peel, both of Jackson Township, OH; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Atkinson-Feucht-Shaidnagle Funeral Home, Massillon, with Rev. Kenneth Kubichek officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing, OH. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 1600 Main Ave. West, Massillon, OH 44647.
