Daniel Jay Swan
Daniel Jay Swan, age 46, of 109 Kennet Ct. NW, Canton passes away Monday morning, July 29, 2002 in his home following an extended illness. Born in Canton, he served in the US Navy and had worked various jobs. Survivors include his wife, Linda Lee Swan; three adult children, Denia, Marissa and Vera; three sisters, Brenda Garey of Canton, Linda Leree Swan of Texas and Candy Loy of Maryland. He was preceded in death by his father, Jay Roy Swan and mother, Leree Evelyn Swan. A private funeral service was held on Friday, August 2, 2002 at the Reed Funeral Home. Interment was at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations in Danny's name can be made to the American Cancer Society, 925 S. Main St. North Canton, OH 44720.
Dorothy S. Rogers
Dorothy S. Rogers, 84, of Carrollton died Friday, August 2, 2002, in her residence after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the Allmon-Dugger Hively Funeral Home in Carrollton. Calling hours will be two hours before the time of service 11-1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Joanne E. Dodge
Joanne E. Dodge, age 72, of North Canton, passed away Thursday morning at Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. Joanne was born in Manchester, NH on Sept. 17, 1929 to the late Claude and Doris (O'Connor) Abbott. she was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in North Canton. She loved her cats and she loved to sew and do cross stitch. Survived by her husband of 49 years, John F. Dodge; two daughters, Suzan Thomas of Massillon, Jennifer (Mark) Radosevic of North Canton; one son, William (Terry) Dodge of McLean, VA; one brother, Robert Abbott of Newport, NJ; five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church in N. Canton with Dr. Lisa Withrow officiating. the family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church, 300 9th St. SW, N. Canton, OH 44720 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 4815 Munson St. NW, N. Canton, OH 44718. Joanne's services are entrusted to the Heritage Cremation Society.
LeRoy R. Kurtz
LeRoy R. Kurtz, 77, of Tuscarawas Twp., died Thursday, August 1, 2002, at Massillon Community Hospital ER. He was born in Tuscarawas Twp., had been a life resident of the township; and had retired from LTV (Republic Steel), Massillon. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph R. and Goldie Kurtz. Survived by wife, Betty (Grimm) Kurtz; stepchildren, Richard (Laura ) Haynam, Susan (Glenn) Elliott, Donna (Roger) Howard, Danny A. (Cathy) Masters and Jack M. Masters; 11 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. Graveside Service Monday 10:00 a.m. at Brookfield Cemetery, David Dahlstein officiating. Lura M. Brown
Lura M. Brown, 90, of Dover, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, in Park Village Health Care Center, Dover, following a brief illness. Born April 29, 1912, in Akron, she was a daughter of the late, Emmet J. and Minnie Boner Pyers. Lura moved at a young age with her family to Millersburg, where she attended school. She married Lyman Valier Brown on January 27, 1930, and the couple resided in the Massillon-Canton area. Lura was a loving homemaker; her family was her life. She was also employed by Sears, Roebuck Co., Massillon, and the old Mercy Hospital, Canton. Lyman died in 1981 and in 1987, Lura moved to Dover. Lura was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, New Philadelphia and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 180, Canal Fulton. Survivors include her son, Joel (Jo Ellen) Brown of Dover; three grandchildren, Theresa Mitchell of Torrance, CA, Christine (Arthur) Brown Frittelli of Lake Worth, FL, and Mark (Jill) Brown of Dover; five great-grandchildren, Paul Reed, Morgan Mitchell, Jordan and Dakota Brown, and Tyler Frittelli; nieces, Elaine Lowry of Las Cruces, NM, Iris Tinlin of Florida, Doris Adams of North Canton; nephews, Roy Brown of North Canton, Fayette Brown of California, and Jerald Parker of Creston, OH. In addition to her husband, Lyman, she was preceded in death by a son, Fr. Richard J. Brown, and a sister, Katherine Close. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 5, 2002, at 10:30 a.m., in Trinity Episcopal Church, New Philadelphia. Fr. Paul C. Johansen will officiate. Immediately following the Mass, there will be a reception in the church hall. Burial will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Apple Creek Cemetery, Apple Creek. Visitation will be Sunday, August 4, 2002, 6:30-9 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover. The New Philadelphia chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services Sunday, at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Mary Jane Burdge
Mary Jane Burdge, 82, of Waynesburg, OH., died Thursday August 1, 2002, following a long illness. Born in Malvern, OH, on October 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William and Augusta (Hermann) Burwell. She was employed over the years as a bakery worker. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Burdge. She is survived by eight children to her first husband, George Elson Welker; son, Jim (Carol) Welker of Lake Mohawk; daughter, Anne (Butch) Ricosky of Carrollton; daughter, Nancy (Rich) Leon of North Canton; son, Philip (Kay) Welker of Lake Mohawk; son, Stephen (Nancy) Welker of Malvern; son, Michael (Janie) Welker of Canton; son, Tony (Bernita) Welker of East Rochester; and daughter, Betsy (Bob) White of Canton; her sister, Helen Volkert of Bonita Springs, FL; 22 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Funeral. services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday August 6, 2002 at the Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home in Malvern, OH., with Msgr. John Michael Campbell officiating. Paul J. Beck
Paul J. Beck, age 71, peacefully passed away with his family by his side July 28, 2002. Mr. Beck worked at the East Ohio Gas Co. for 34 years as well as the caretaker for the Great Trail Girl Scout Camp for 24 years. Mr. Beck is survived by his children, Kevin Beck and Laurie Shaub; along with three grandchildren. A private family service has already been held and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Great Trail Girl Scouts Outdoor Program.
R. Vernelle Eversole
R. Vernelle Eversole, age 79, of Navarre, OH, passed away Friday morning in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Canton on Oct. 11, 1922, she was the daughter of the late, Robert and Edna Franklin. She was a member of the Canton South Church of the Nazarene. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Eversole, her husband, Archie G. Fred Eversole, who passed away May 29, 2000; a brother, Earl Franklin. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Barbara Eversole of Dellroy, OH; daughter-in-law, Frances Eversole of Canton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Edith Franklin of Canton, Lee Franklin of North Industry, Don and Helen Franklin of Canton; her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Keith Littlefield of Canton; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours Tuesday one hour before the services 12-1 p.m.
Robert E. Kilgore
Mr. Robert E. Kilgore, age 68, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 31. 2002. Born July 13, 1934, in Grant County, IN. Preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Helen Kilgore; son, Kent A. Kilgore; brother, Daniel G. Kilgore. Robert served the Lord with all his heart and soul. Robert leaves to cherish his precious memories; two daughters, Kitty K. (Jack) Cope of Anderson, IN., Kimberly Kilgore of Naperville, IL., spiritual son, Randy (Darlene) Gerber and family; granddaughters: Carly, Kasey and Cariann Cope, all of Anderson, IN; brother, Richard M.
