Carmel R. Palumbo
Carmel R. (Papi) Palumbo, age 77, of Canton, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, surrounded by her family, having fought a courageous battle against cancer. Born on September 22, 1924, Carm was one of four children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dominic and Anna Papi; brother, Bonnifacio Papi; sister, Mary Agnes Dazey; infant grandson, Andrew John Palumbo; and husband, Joseph E. Palumbo on January 26, 2000. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Barbara Palumbo, John and Annette Palumbo, Mark Palumbo; daughter and son-in-law, Patrice and David Yontz all of Canton; sister, Vianna Palumbo of Florida; sister-in-law, Mary Papi of Canton. The strength and spirit of her love will forever live in the hearts of her grandchildren, Joseph, Nicholas, Benjamin Palumbo and Dustin and Rachel Yontz. Carm was a 1943 graduate of Timken High School in Cosmetology; a lifetime member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Canton; and had worked for the H.R. Davis Candy Company for over 40 years. Her greatest joy was participating in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the ROSSI FUNERAL HOME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, Canton, with Rev. Fr. Nicholas Mancini as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carm's name can be made to the American Cancer Society, 925 S. Main St., North Canton, OH 44720.
Delmar J. Rink
Delmar J. Rink, age 47, of Magnolia, died Monday in Aultman Hospital, following an extended illness. He was a Magnolia area resident for the past 20 years, and was retired from the Faith Community Church after seven years of service, a 1974 graduate of Perry High School. Member of the North Industry Christian Church with whom he attended Promise Keepers. He was a Viet Nam War Navy Veteran. Preceded in death by his father, Donald Rink. Survived by his wife, Cynthia A. (Barnes) to whom he celebrated 20 years of marriage July 24, 2002; one daughter, Katie Rink; one son, Jacob Delmar Rink both of the home; his mother, Catherine Rink of Massillon; one brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Debbie Rink of Canfield; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa and Thomas Riffle of Massillon, Peggy and Mike Swansiger of Canal Fulton, Mary Jo and Paul Swansiger of North Lawrence, Vikki and Bob May of Versailles, IL; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Rev. David Cobb officiating. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m.
Jeanette J. Bradley
Jeanette J. Bradley, age 80, of Massillon, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, following a lengthy illness. She was born June 4, 1922 to Charles D. and Viola (Hughart) Ellison was a life resident of the area. She retired from Mercy Medical Center as an LPN and had previously been employed at MCA Sign Co. for 18 years. She was a member of Canton Baptist Temple, the church choir, and LPN Assoc. of Ohio. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Bradley, Oct. 31, 1991 and seven brothers and sisters. Surviving are daughter, Karen D. Essman of Delaware, OH; sons, William L. Bradley with whom she resided and Robert D. Bradley of Pataskala, OH; sister, Evelyn Criswell of Massillon; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Atkinson-Feucht-Shaidnagle Funeral Home with Dr. Harold Henniger officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Jerry D. Lofland
Jerry Daniel Lofland, age 21, of Louisville, passed away Monday, July 29, 2002. Friends may call Thursday 5-7 p.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville with Msgr. Ken Miller as celebrant. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Jerry Lofland Memorial Fund with Charter One Bank in Louisville.
Juvenal B. Roque
Juvenal B. Roque, age 96, of Massillon, died Monday morning at Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Dalton. His death followed a lengthy illness. He was born on May 3, 1907, in Cuba and was the son of the late Andrew and Aurelia Roque. He was a Massillon resident for most of his life. He was the owner of the former Roque Real Estate and Insurance Agency and the Massillon Bookkeeping Tax Service. He was a member of the Massillon Baptist Temple. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Antonette (Zucharo) Roque of the home; four daughters, Beverly Jones and Ginger Bracken, both of Canton, Wanda Linderholm of Sun City, AZ and C.J. Fox of Massillon; eight grandchildren, Michael Peters, Jeffrey Peters, Patricia Reed, Scott Peters, Stephen Maurer, James Bracken, Douglas Trent, Todd Trent; 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Dr. Bruce D. Cummons officiating. Leah Mester, age 83, of Lower Burrell, PA, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 in Presbyterian Senior Care of Oakmont, PA. Beloved mother of Michael L. Mester of North Canton, OH and Richard H. Mester of Wilkensburg, PA; grandmother of eight; great-grandmother of 14; great-great-grandmother of two. Margaret E. Reid
Margaret E. Meg Reid, age 51 of Uniontown, OH, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at home in the loving arms of her family after her courageous three year battle with Breast Cancer. Meg was born January 11, 1951 in Canton, OH. She taught Seventh Grade Special Education at Lake Middle School for the past four years. Meg was the true definition of what being a teacher is all about. Not only did she love her family, but also her job. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Gordon. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Steve Reid; her daughter, Lauren both of the home; her son, Andy Reid of Cincinnati, OH; her mother, Joyce Gordon of Canton; her mother-in-law, Jean Reid of Willoughby, OH: her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Bruce and Sandy Gordon of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Dave Holloway of North Canton; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jan and Gary Kormany. In lieu of flowers, it was Meg's wish that donations be made to the Lauren Reid Benevolent Fund at any First Merit Bank. This will help fund Lauren's nursing school education so she can touch lives the way her mother has. Margaret Pfalzgraf
Margaret M. Pfalzgraf, age 80, dedicated wife and mother was reunited with her husband, Vernon, on July 30, 2002. She had been a resident of Manor Care Nursing Home. She was born April 9, 1922 in Wheeling, WV, to Adam and Anna Stenger. After moving to Ohio, she attended Clarington High School. She was president of her 1941 graduating class. She became a certified cosmetologist. In 1946 she married her high school sweetheart Vernon and moved to Canton. She was a past member of Canton St. Joseph's Church, Canton St. Michael's Church, North Canton St.. Paul's Church and a current member of Little Flower Church in Middlebranch. Husband, Vernon, preceded her in death in 1963. Preceded also by parents; three sisters, Loretta Denning, Anna George, Matilda Bott; four brothers, Adam, Leo, Edward and Joseph Stenger. Survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Linda Pfalzgraf of North Canton, John and Rhonda Pfalzgraf of Canton; daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Donald Offi of Painesville, Marsha and Rick Madden of Streetsboro; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Fete as celebrant. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Mary Ellen Bell
Mary Ellen Bell, age 82, died on Friday, July 26, 2002 at St. Mary's Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD, following an extended illness. She was born in Carroll County, Ohio, the daughter of Elmer T. and Florence L. Borland. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed sewing and gardening. She resided for many years Canton, OH, with her husband and three children; later retiring to Fairfield Glade, TN. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Iris Kay and her husband of 56 years, Calvin Harvey. Mary was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Canton, OH, and Fairfield Glade Community Church, Fairglade, TN. Survivors include a brother, Charles L. Borland of Minerva, OH,; and her children, Bruce A. Bell of Hixson, TN, Beverly A. Price of Leonardtown, MD and Rosemary E. French of Lancaster, PA; and seven grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held at Fairfield Glade Community Church in Tennessee. Richard D. Zahler
Richard D. Zahler, age 72, of Canton, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2002. Born in Canton on Jan 1, 1930, he is the son of the late George and Leona (Weidman) Zahler. A graduate of Timken Vocational High School, Class of '47. Dick worked for Macomber Inc. for 17 years and became a partner with his father, George and brother, Thomas at The Sand Rock Water Co. in 1968 and retired in 1995. A veteran of the Korean War, he served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany with the 28th Infantry Div. An avid fisherman, he was a charter member of the Stark Co. Bassmasters for over 30 years. Lifelong member of First United Church of Christ, he served for over 20 years as Deacon, Elder and presided over Consistory as President for six terms. Also active with the church softball and bowling leagues; he served as Scoutmaster of Troop # 30 for three years. Member of Clinton Lodge # 47 F. A.M., and Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton. Survived by his wife, Rose, to whom he was married 51 years; three children, David (Sherri) and Gary (Mary Lynne) Zahler, Kathryn (Hal) Foster; grandchildren, Courtney and Cody Zahler, Jessica, Zachary, Niki, and Brian Foster; brother, Thomas (Jodine) Zahler; sister, Marilyn Ramsey; sister-in-law, Anna Martin; nephews, Steve and John Martin; and niece, Lisa Martin. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Schneeberger Funeral Home with Pastors William Seymour and Clifford Price officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery where military honors will be held. Friends will be received Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Carl W. Elkins
Carl W. Elkins, age 18, of Louisville, was pronounced dead on arrival at Aultman Hospital Monday, July 29, 2002, following a sudden illness. He was born in anton, July 20, 1984, Carl was a former student at Louisville High School and attended Trinity Gospel Temple in Canton. He is survived by his father, Jon Elkins of Strasburg and his mother, Linda Elkins of Louisville; a sister, Serena Elkins of Louisville; a half brother, Greg Clark of Canton; grandmothers, Ruth Corn of Georgia and Ferbie Elkins of Canton. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Stier-Israel Funeral Home of Louisville, with Pastor Rick Brown officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Nan Mary (Mack) Clark,
Nan Mary (Mack) Clark, age 73, passed away on Saturday morning, July 27, 2002 at the Cleveland Clinic. Nan was born on March 9, 1929 in Aultman, OH. (North Canton vicinity). She has been a life time resident of Canton/East Canton area, except for 5 years, she lived in the Sacramento, CA area. Nan graduated from McKinley High School in 1947. While employed as a housekeeper technician and housekeeper for various families, she decided to attend the Canton Practical Nursing School and graduated as a L.P.N. in 1971. She was employed at the Aultman Hospital as an L.P.N. and Kidney Dialysis Technician and retired in 1985. Nan was a charter member of the Northeast Needle Craft Club and was a former active member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, and served as a stewardess, missionary and sang in the chancel choir, prior to her move to California. She is a more recent member of Grace Fellowship Christian Church. Nan had a natural gift for painting, flower arranging, gardening and playing the piano. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman H. Clark Sr., parents, LeRoy and Martha (Williams) Mack, brothers, Henry L. Mack and Guy A. Mack Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Charles) Chapman; sons, Herman H. Clark Jr., Steve (Paulette) Clark, both of California; grandchildren, Holly Chapman, Charles O. Chapman, Shontaya Clark, Paul Clark and Kali Clark, also mourning her passing is her brother, Charles L. (Juanita) Mack; sister-in-law. Helen K. Mack; special nephew, Henry C. Mack; nephews, David Mack, Guy Mack Jr., Garland Mack, Garth Mack; niece, Dorthea Bridgest and a host of other relatives and friends. Michelle Lemon
Michelle Maria (Mikey) Lemon, age 50, of Massillon, passed away Saturday July 27, 2002 at Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Michelle was born August 27, 1951 in Canton to the late Maceo and Myra (Stull) Williams. She was a 1968 graduate of McKinley High School and was currently a nursing student at Stark State College. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of Massillon. In addition to her parents a son Maceo Lemon preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her death her beloved and devoted husband, Allen Lemon, Sr. of the residence with whom she shared 23 years of marriage; three daughters, Myra Carter, Katina Carter, Angela Lemon all of the residence; one son, Allen Lemon, Jr.; two loving grandchildren, Isaac Lemon, Kailey Grimm-Lemon; three brothers, Maceo (Nancy) Williams of California, James Williams of Canton, Antoine (Donna) Williams of Canton; five sisters, Wilma Stull of New Jersey, Charisse (Roy) Wooten of Canton, Jacqueline (Charles) Harris of Akron, Annabelle (Mark) Wigton of Columbus, Angela (William) Evans of California; and a host of nieces and nephews, family members and friends.
