Cheryl J. Bergmeyer
Cheryl J. Bergmeyer, age 57, of Massillon, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Aultman Hospital following a 10 month illness. She was born November 17, 1944, in Canton, and remained a resident of this area her entire life. She was a graduate of Glenwood High School, Class of '62, and received her nurse's training at the Canton City School of Nursing. She worked as an LPN at Bethany Nursing Home, Canton for 13 years, and was a member of the Ohio Nurses Assoc. She was also a member of Saint Mary Parish, Massillon. She enjoyed gardening, and various crafts, including needlepoint. She is survived by her husband of thirty-eight years, Donald Bergmeyer of Massillon; her father and step-mother, A.J. Marion Kraus of Mesquite, NV; her mother, Mildred Kraus of Massillon; three sons, Donald \D.J.\Bergmeyer II, serving in the Army, Randy Bergmeyer and his fiance, Lynn Buwala and her three sons, L.J., David and Bradley, all of Massillon, and Mathew Bergmeyer of Massillon; her former daughter-in-law, Lisa Bergmeyer of Akron; one granddaughter, Brittany Bergmeyer, at home; one sister, Susan Kraus of Massillon; her mother-in-law, Helen Bergmeyer of Canton; one sister-in-law, Patricia Jekubik of Massillon; one brother-in-law, Jerry Bergmeyer of Canton; several aunts and uncles; many cousins, including Diane Shafer of Massillon; and numerous friends, including a special friend, Lois Marcus of Navarre. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Kraus; her father-in-law, Earl Bergmeyer; and two brothers-in-law, David Bergmeyer and James Bergmeyer. Mass of Christian Burial will be Weds., July 24th., at 10 AM at Saint Mary Parish Church with Fr. James Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Perry Twp. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 PM Tuesday at Heitger Funeral Service - Massillon Chapel, 639 First St. NE, where a scriptural service will be held during calling hours. Edwin W. Stewart
Edwin W. Stewart, 65, of Canton, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, in Aultman Hospital. He was born in Tippecanoe, OH., June 5, 1937, to Audrey (Shoemaker) of Waynesburg and the late John C. Stewart. He was a Chef at the Four Winds Restaurant for over 30 years. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 24 years, Charlotte (Varble) Stewart; daughters, Debbie Mitchell, Jackie Anthony and Vivian Mayle, all of Canton, Cathy Mehalic of Canal Fulton; sons, Kevin and Edwin; daughters, Jana Jovingo and Amy Oesch all of Canton; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, John and Cathy of Waynesburg. He is preceded in death by his father, John C.; son, Jeffrey W.; and brother, Jerry C. The family would like to thank Dr. Schmotzer and his staff for their kindness and care. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Karlo-Feucht Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd. NW with the Revs. Doug Wiles and Robert Tate officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Grace Ann James
Grace Ann James, age 66, of Massillon, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning, July 20, 2002, in the residence following a courageous 19 month battle with cancer. Born in Canton, OH., September 30, 1935, to her parents, the late Homer and Freda (Heldman) Covey, she was a 1954 graduate of Timken Vocational High School. Grace was a devoted mother and grandmother, and enjoyed keeping busy working for Goodwill Industries. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Donna J. Bryan; and former husband, Dale L. James. Survivors include three daughters and son-in-law, Gale Martin of Massillon, OH., Chandale and Michael Spencer of Navarre, OH., Dale Ree James of Massillon, OH; five grandchildren, Becky and Kelly Martin of Massillon, Van Michael Foley, Jr., Amanda and Nichelle Foley of Massillon; three sisters, Berry Noll of Waterford, OH., Mildred Fry of Caldwell, OH., and JoAnn Johnston of Canton, OH; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Rudy officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 7-8 p.m. Grace requested thanks to Dr. Weeman and all the staff who cared for her at Aultman Hospital, Cancer Center and Aultman Hospice. Also thanks to Goodwill Industries and staff for always finding a job for her, each time she returned to work following medical leaves. Helen D. Barnhouse. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. There will be calling hours prior to the services on Tuesday 6-8 p.m. Her wishes were to be cremated following the services and her cremains will be buried in the Sandy Valley Cemetery. James H. Weisburn
James H. Weisburn, age 76, of Waynesburg, passed away Friday in his residence. He was born in Waynesburg, a son of the late Wvo and Freda Dieringer Weisburn, and was a life resident. Jim retired in 1981 from Canton Smelting Refinery, after over 20 years service, where he was a truck driver. He was member of St. James Catholic Church in Waynesburg, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Preceded in death by his brother, Jack Weisburn; and a great-granddaughter, Carolyn Janetski. Survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jerry Bennett, of Morristown, AZ; two grandchildren, Autumn Heiden and her husband, Jeremiah, of Ross Bush, MI., and Terry Crawley, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, MI; five great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Zane Heiden, Austin Singer, Dallas and Lexis Crawley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Dyer as Celebrant. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. John O. Erwin
John O. Erwin, age 78, of Canton, OH., passed away Saturday evening, July 20, 2002, in the residence following an extended illness. Born in Canton, OH., February 24, 1924, to his parents the late Thomas and Bessie (Wilson) Erwin, he lived all of his life in the Canton area; and was a retired employee of U.S. Steel, retiring after 30 years of service. Mr. Erwin was a Mason and a member of Canton Lodge #60 F. A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Canton where he received the MS Service Award; member of Canton Shrine Club, Tadmor Shrine and Stewards Unit and was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn (Mikes) Erwin of the home to whom he would have been married 52 years, October 26, 2002; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard G. and Dorothy Erwin of Canton, OH., Glenn A. and Marie Erwin of Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law, Donna Frenz and nephew, Robert Frenz both of Columbus, OH; brother-in-law, Joseph E. Mikes of Canton, OH; niece and her husband, Kristia and James Howell of Canton, OH; nephew, Tim Erwin of Canton, OH; niece Sandra O'Neill of Canton, OH; several great nieces and nephews. Kenneth G. Currie
Kenneth G. Currie, age 86, of Columbiana and formerly of Malvern, died Saturday morning, July 20, 2002, in the Salem Community Hospital. He was born February 28, 1916, in North Canton to Joseph and Mary (McGaughey) Currie. He retired from Summitville Tile where he was plant manager in Minerva and Summitville. He had also worked as plant manager of National Fireproofing in East Canton, Westinghouse in Canton and United Engineering and Foundry in Youngstown. He is a member of First United Methodist Church in Columbiana and a graduate of Malvern High School in 1934. He is a past master (twice) of Tubal Lodge #551 FAM in Minerva and Past Patron (7 times) for Esther Chapter #120 Order of Easter Star in Minerva, past WOS of McKinley Shrine #54 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Canton, member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, Minerva Chapter #146 of the Royal Arch Masons in Carrollton, Alliance Commandry #67, former member of the Brown Local School Board for 18 years, and the Malvern Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Posey) Currie who he married July 30, 1994; two daughters, Mrs. Glen (Nancy) Benedict of Malvern, Mrs. Bill (Beverly) Tucci of Malvern; a son, Bill and wife, Carol Currie of Waynesburg; a stepson, Rick Ross of Columbiana; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy (Williams) Currie, who died in 1985; a stepson, William Ross; two sisters, Eva Moxon and Jeannette Kolm. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Steven K. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Lee Stilgenbauer, Sr.
Lee A. Stilgenbauer, Sr., 63, of Dover, passed peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, July 20, 2002, surrounded by his loving family. He was retired from Beaver Excavating in Canton, as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Ohio Operating Engineers. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Brother David Lombardi and Pastor Snyder officiating. Interment will be at Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday (tonight) from 6-9 p.m.

Thomas C. Keller
Thomas C. Keller, age 83, of Hartville, passed away Saturday July 20, 2002. He was born in Hollidaysburg, PA o May 1, 1919, the son of the late Thomas J. and Catherine M. Keller. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with an engineering degree. He was an Army Veteran of World War II in the Corps of Engineers, rising to the rank of Major in 5 years. He worked for the Timken Co., retiring as Chief Engineer of the railway division after 36 years of service. He was a 55 year member of Christ United Methodist Church in Canton and served as head of the trustees. He was a member of Congress Lake Country Club, Retired Executives Professional Men's Club, the Masons, and other engineering and retired military groups. Survivors include his wife of 59 years Dorothy M. Keller; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia A. Rev. Clarke A. Hogue of Akron, OH, and Pamela E. Michael P. Dougherty their children Sea n, Kelly, and Evan of Clarkston, MI; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey C. Margaret A. Keller of Marshall, MI and their son, Bryan J. Keller of San Diego, CA; sister, Cathie Gahagen and her husband Frank and their 2 daughters; brother John J. Keller and his wife Nancy and their 2 sons; sister-in-law, Helen Hutchinson and her daughter, son, and grandson. Calling Hours are Friday July 26th from 6-9:00 PM at Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville. After a private interment, a Memorial Service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 3500 Cleveland Ave., at 1:00 PM Saturday with Rev. Nancy L. Conley officiating. Sarah A. Hudson
Sarah A. (Kelly) Hudson, 39, of Canton, died on Friday, July 19, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Alliance on October 11, 1962, she had lived
most of her life in Alliance, and had worked at numerous businesses in the area. She attended Marlington High School and was a member of the Alliance Baptist Temple. Survivors include her husband, John Hudson; daughter Tiffiany Kelly; stepdaughters, Kenyah and Savanah Hudson; 2 granddaughters, Noel Montgomery and Macala Kelly; mother, Audrey Graham; father, Mike Kelly; sister, Melinda Kelly; 3 brothers, Richard and Mike Kelly and Eddie Graham; grandmother, Sharlet Carpenter; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces nephews. Preceding her in death were grandparents, Kenneth Kelly, Sally Kelly and Floyd Carpenter; and a brother, Bobby Graham. Graveside funeral services for family and friends will be held at Highland Memorial Park on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Randy Payne, officiating. There are no calling hours. The Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Alvita Patterson
Alvita Patterson, 42, went home to be with the Lord on July 17, 2002, at her home. She was born in Canton, on July 19, 1959, to the late Edward (Rose) Patterson, and had lived in the Kent Community for the last two years. She was employed with the Maxim Healthcare Services. She was preceded in death by parents, and she leaves to mourn her passing, son, Mandwell Patterson of Dayton, OH; grandson, Jordon Christopher of Massillon; brothers, Raymond Jackson of Akron, Richard (Gloria) Patterson of Monroeville, OH; sister, Sharon Faulkner of Massillon, OH; and a host of other relatives and friends. Niambi Angaza (nee) Gerlinda H. Scott-Smith, age 55, passed away July 18, 2002, loving
mother of Michael and Juba Smith, cherished sister of Louis Jr., Herman, Pamela Cannon and Doris Ross-Smoots, devoted Grandmother of five. She held a PhD and served as Assistant Principal of Louis Aqassiz Elementary School in the Cleveland Public School System.
