Barbara L. Yingling
Barbara L. Yingling, age 59, of Massillon, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Massillon Community Hospital, following a lengthy illness. She was born March 27, 1943, in Latrobe, PA, but had lived in this area most of her life and worked as a homemaker. She was a member of Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church in Canal Fulton, where she was a member of the Altar/Rosary Society. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Yingling of Massillon; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steven Yingling of Cleveland, Mark and Teri Yingling of Dayton, Craig and Noelle Yingling of Columbia, SC; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Slisz. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 28 at 10 a.m. at Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church, Canal Fulton with Fr. Robert Hannon officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Massillon. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Heitger Funeral Service-Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Rd. NW, Jackson Twp., where a scriptural service will be held during calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Betty M. Parsons
Betty M. Parsons, age 83, of Massillon, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 in the Laurels of Massillon. She was born Sept. 10, 1918 in New Bethlehem, PA. She had worked as an ad ministrative clerk for many years, first at the Massillon State Hospital, then at Ecko Products, Ben Franklin in Massillon and finally at Central Allied Enterprises. She was a member of Pigeon Run United Methodist Church and had help serve the hot lunches at the Massillon Knights of Columbus. She enjoyed playing bingo at St. Mary's. Survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Carol Meldrum of Massillon, John and Rebecca S. Meldrum of Penhook, VA; two half sisters, Joanne Underwood of Jacksonville, FL, Wanda Lowry of Worthville, KY; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Harry Parsons, in September, 2001; her parents, Clark and Lenora (Gibson) Shipley. All funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. David G. Oby
David G. Oby, age 73, of North Canton, passed away Wednesday morning June 26, 2002 in his residence. He was born April 17, 1929 in Canton to the late Florence (Gould) and Phillip VanFossen Oby, Sr. David was a graduate of McKinley High School in 1947 and Ohio Weslyan University in 1951. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and a veteran of the Korean conflict. In 1987, following a 34-year career in the advertising department with Goodyear Tire Rubber Company, he retired and was a marketing lecturer at the University of Akron. Mr. Oby was a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church where he was actively involved in many areas, he served on the North Canton School Board from 1976 to 1980, Habitat for Humanity Board 1991-1997 and served on the North Canton Library Board. He was a Red Cross volunteer and was active with the Boy Scouts of America and North Canton Little League. Mr. Oby was a beloved husband, father and Pappy who is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betsy; sons, David G. Oby, Jr. and his children, Catherine and David III of Berea, Matthew W. Oby (Paula) and their children, Emily, Kim and Claire Oby of Akron; daughters, Mary Susan Oby Halbach and her children, Erin and Matthew Halbach of North Canton, Katy Oby Maj (Richard) and their children, Samuel, Sarah and Rebecca Maj of North Canton; and a brother Phillip V. Oby of Schenectady, New York. Following cremation a memorial service will be held Saturday 1:00 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in North Canton with Rev. Alan Kimber officiating. Earl D. Blanchard
Earl D. Blanchard, age 78, of Canton, died Wednesday afternoon in the Mercy Medical Center. Son of the late Clyde and Anna (Stuckey) Blanchard. He was a Canton area resident most of his life and also resided in Wayne County for 24 years. He retired from farming after 30 years and was employed by Hills Farm Supply. Member of the Little Country Church where he had served as an elder and in various other duties at the church. Member of the farm bureau and he had served as a volunteer fireman for a number of years. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Ruth (VanFossen) Blanchard in 1973; his second wife, Leona (Brinker) Blanchard in 1978; and one sister, Lucy Breniser. Survived by his wife, Arlene (Taylor) Blanchard; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Joyce Blanchard of Wooster, Daryl and Linda Blanchard of West Salem, OH; two daughters and a son-in-law, Charlene and Vince Willits of Massillon, Darlene Blanchard of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren two great-grandchildren; two step daughters and spouse, Janet and Lee Cramer of Union town, Claudia Bartlett of Westlake, OH; one brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Donna Blanchard of Canton; one sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Richard Moomaw of Clarence, NY. Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Little Country Church at 7886 Ravenna Ave. SE, Waynesburg, OH 44688 with Pastor Dale Boston officiating. Interment in Fairhaven Cemetery Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Friends may call Friday 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Kreighbam-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave.
Emma L. Carroll
Emma L. Carroll, age 88, of N. Canton, died Tuesday after a long illness. Born in Steubenville, OH, she had been a Canton area resident since 1941. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, St. Joan of Arc Altar and Rosary Society, and was a charter member of the K. of C. Bernadettes. Preceded in death by her husband, Michael G. Carroll, who died in 1975 and three brothers, Charles, Chris and James Schnabel. Survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Karl Bausch of Massillon, and Patricia and Chief Thomas Wyatt of N. Canton, and with whom she made her home; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie McCracken and Nellie Hemphill, both of Canton; three brothers and five sisters-in-law, Edward G. Schnabel of Wintersville, OH, Robert and Gloria Schnabel, and Thomas and Virginia Schnabel, all of Canton, Patricia Schnabel and Alma Schnabel, both of Steubenville, and Martha Schnabel of Hartville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas P. Dyer as celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call at the church on Friday 9:30-10:30 a.m. The Lamiell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
Eugene H. Estabrook
Eugene H. Estabrook, age 69, of North Canton, OH, passed away Tuesday morning in the Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Born in Limona, FL, on September 7, 1932. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Estabrook of the home; several children; grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters; and a brother. There will be no calling hours nor services, as his wishes were to be cremated. The Reed Funeral Home in Canton, OH, is in charge of arrangements.

Jessie C. Dickey
Jessie C. Dickey, age 87, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at St. Luke's Lutheran Home in North Canton. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, Nov. 3, 1914, to the late Thomas and Annie (Murcroft) Hutchinson. She was retired from Aultman Hospital and had worked as a part time employee at Zwicks Department Store. A member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Louisville. Jessie was preceded in death by a son, Robert Dickey and a daughter, JoAnn Crandall. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Donald DeGarmo of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Katherine Jones and Annie Sanderson, both of Canton; ten grandchildren, Diane and Bob Burick, Denny Crandall, all of Louisville, Sherri and Carl Kandel of Sugarcreek, Ann and Dave Williams of North Canton, Don and Donna DeGarmo of New Jersey, Bob and Michelle DeGarmo of Florida, Debbie DeGarmo of Pennsylvania, Robert Dickey Jr., Edward Dickey and Jeff Dickey, all of Canton; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Christ United Methodist Church of Louisville with Rev. Dr. Edward Beck officiating. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday (today) in the Stier-Israel Funeral Home of Louisville. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Louisville. Olga J. Gaff
Olga J. Gaff, age 69, of Canton, died Monday morning following a brief illness. Born July 25, 1932 in New Galilee, PA, to the late Paul and Amelia Mulig. She was a member of Canton South Church of the Nazarene, enjoyed Bingo, bowling and was a former hostess at Burger King. Preceded in death by her husband, Martin and ten brothers and sisters. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Jeff Irwin of Brighton, PA, Susan and Donald Johnson of Coshocton, OH, Doris and Roy Garrett, Jr. of Canton, Dolores and Robert Miller of Canton and one son and daughter-in-law, Martin Jr. and Amelia Gaff of Canton; ten grandchildren; two brothers, Paul and Alex Mulig of Pennsylvania. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Calling hours in the funeral home two hours prior to services 12-2 p.m.
