Betty M. Jackson
Betty Myrtle Jackson, age 77, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday morning in the Arbors of Canton following a brief illness. Born in Toronto, OH, on Feb. 25, 1925, she had lived the greater portion of her life in Parkersburg, WV. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Chester Allman and Percy Jackson. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Donald L. and Alyce Allman of Canton, OH; her daughter, Elizabeth Mae Carroll of Elyria, OH; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in Parkersburg, WV. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour before services on Wednesday from 9-10 a.m.
Dorothy A. Chiesa
Dorothy A. Chiesa, age 82, of Canton, passed away in Hanover house in Massillon Monday afternoon. Arrangements pending with Formet-Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home.
Emil J. Pachuta
Emil J. Pachuta, age 74 of Canton, OH, passed away Monday morning, June 17, 2002 in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. He was a retired truck driver for Jackson Bayley Electric and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Canton. He served his country during World War II in the U.S Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Teresa Pachuta and a brother, Michael. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage this November; daughters, Debbie and her husband, Ed Miller of Jerusalem, OH, Emily Stenger of Massillon, OH, Julie and her husband, Scott Bates of Quaker City, OH; a son, Thomas Pachuta of Canton; sister, Mary and her husband, Joseph Kozar of Lore City, OH; a brother, Andrew and his wife, Evelyn Pachuta of East Sparta, OH; grandchildren, Angie, Sheila and Todd Miller, Anna Pachuta, Jenna Stenger and Amanda Bates. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church in Temperanceville, OH, with Fr. Virgil Reishman as celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Friends may call Wednesday 6-8 p.m. in the Don Williams Funeral Home and one hour prior to Mass in the church. Everett M. Chapman
Everett M. Chapman, departed this life on June 14, 2002 at Elyria Memorial hospital after an extended illness. He was born to Stella and Edward Chapman on December 8, 1934 in Burgettstown, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Edith. He is survived by sisters, Emily Washington, Erma Smith; and brothers, Edward Chapman, Retired Master Petty Officer, Earl Chapman, Ret. Major Irwin R. Chapman, nephew, Thomas Chapman; and many nieces and other nephews. He retired from the Timken Rollerbearing after 35 years. He served as a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict in the 11th Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, KY and the 82 Airborne Division at Ft. Bragge, NC. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Funeral services at Brogdon and Son Funeral Home, 1617 3rd St NE on Thursday June 20, 2002 at 1 p.m. calling hours are from 11-1 p.m. Thursday June 20, 2002. In lieu of flowers make donations to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1403 13th St SE in Everett Chapman's name.
Florence M. Ristoff (Wells)
Florence M. Ristoff, (Wells) of Canton, passed away Saturday morning in Aultman Hospital. Born a daughter of the late Boris and Sena Durato Ristoff, she had been a life resident of the area. Florence attended the University of Akron and was a graduate of the Famous Writers School in Westport, CN. She was a freelance writer, the head copywriter for Radio Station W-NYN and also did some on-the-air commercials. She wrote a column for an Orthodox Church paper from Indianapolis and was first published at the age of eight. She was a member of Holy Assumption Orthodox Church and the Greater Canton Writers Guild. Survived by one sister, Margaret Osborne with whom she resided; one aunt, Edna Stamatoff and several cousins. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Formet-Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home with Father John Peck officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service, 1-2 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Frederick W. Herman Sr.
Frederick W. Herman Sr., age 81, of Massillon, died Monday, June 17, 2002 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born June 6, 1921, in Flushing, Ohio, and had resided in Massillon most of his life. He had worked as the Superintendent of Stark County for the Ohio Dept. of Transportation, for 25 years, retiring in 1986. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and was a member of the 5th Calvary. He was a member of the Massillon Eagles Aerie #190. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Frederick and Leota Herman Jr. of Massillon; three daughters and one son-in-law, Sandra and Michael Esber of Canton, Karen Jordan of Jackson Twp., and Sharon Roebuck of Perry Twp.; eleven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Herman in 1993; one daughter, Patricia Herman in 1996; his parents, Carl and Martha (Cotton) Herman; two brothers and two sisters. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held Thursday, June 20 at 10AM at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Massillon with Rev. Charles Kirkpatrick officiating. Helen Angela (Fitzpatrick) Bianchi, age 79, formerly of North Canton, died Thursday June 13, 2002 in Destin, FL. Survived by sister, Gerry Talbert of Elm grove, WV; two daughters, Barbara Juersivich of Akron and Beth Bianchi of Mary Esther, FL; two grandsons; two granddaughters, and a great-grandson. Preceded in death by husband, gene Bianchi; parents, John and Mary Fitzpatrick; three brothers, John William and Leo Fitzpatrick; two sisters, Mary Hay and Elinor Hyatt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 1 p.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church, North Canton, with Rev. Msgr. James A. Clarke officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Marion Bruce Hall
Marion Bruce Hall, age 74, of Marlboro, passed away Monday June 17, 2002 in the comfort of his daughter's home in Hartville. He was born in Atwater, Ohio on November 9, 1927 to the late Marion Conrad Mary (Hilker) Hall. Bruce was retired from the Pipefitter's Union and had also served in the National Guard. He had been a member of Atwater Congregational Church. Preceded in death by his wife, Joan Hope Hall in 1990. Survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Kathy Hall of Marlboro, Mary Beth Bollinger, and Shirley Hall both of Hartville, and Brenda and Dan Metzger of North Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Rich and Laurie Hall of Colorado, and Raymond and Colleen Hall of Hartville; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Helen Hall of Atwater; and nine grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Bollinger, Kara and Angeline Metzger, Marc and Ryan Hall, and Erika, Nicholas, and Erin Hall. Friends may call in the Arnold Funeral Home on Wednesday 6-8:00 PM and one hour prior to services (10-11:00AM Thursday). Russell J. Jones Jr.
Russell J. Jones Jr., age 51 of Canton, OH passed way Sunday afternoon, June 16, 2002 in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Newark, OH, April 4, 1951, he lived most of his life in the Canton area and was currently employed by MRDD. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, having served in the United States Army, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Aisa Jones and Rodney Jones. Survivors include his wife, Dawn Jones of the home to whom he was married 14 years; three children, Melissa Jones of the home, Jeff Jones of Kansas City, KS and Brian Jones of Lima, OH; his mother and step-father, Angelina and Harold Speck of Newark, OH; his father, Russell Jack Jones Sr., his brother, James Speck; two sisters, Terry Hartley and Tina Dalzell all of Newark, OH. There are three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also surviving. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday 1:00 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Nelson Pamer officiating. Sarah J. Basford
Sarah J. Basford, age 81, of North Canton, formerly of Dalton, died Monday, June 17, 2002 at her home. Sarah was born Sept. 23, 1920 in Byesville to Joseph and Jessie (Wade) Sigman. She was a member of Dalton United Methodist Church and attended Christ United Methodist Church. She retired from Applecreek State Hospital. She enjoyed quilting, handcrafts and cooking. Survived by children, Walter (Marilyn) Basford of Virginia, Elaine (Patrick) griffin of Virginia, Jay (Jackie) Basford of canton; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Roger Sigman of Cambridge, Dean Sigman of Columbus. Preceded in death by her husband, Omar C. Basford; four brothers; three sisters. Memorial services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Canton with Rev. Dolores Fowler
Dolores Elaine Fowler, age 72, of Massillon, died Wednesday afternoon in the home following an extended illness. Born October 8, 1929, in Rimersburg, PA, to the late James and Pauline Stewart. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ; and was retired from Aultman Hospital in 1992. Preceded in death by her brother, Robert J. Stewart. Survivors include her husband, John of the home with whom she would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on July 30, 2002; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Stephanie Fowler of San Diego, CA., Troy and Cynthia Fowler of Massillon, OH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and David Correia of Los Angeles, CA., Lanie and Robert Meyer of Massillon, OH; there are six grandchildren, Keith, Kent, Gabe, Lauren, Cody and Brandon also surviving. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Gifford officiating. Private burial for the family will follow the services.
