D. Larry Adler
D. Larry Adler, age 49, of 117 Calton Dr., died Friday, May 31, 2002, at his home, formerly of Canton, OH. A native of Canton, OH, he was the son of Donald W. Adler and Rose Stitz Adler of the home. He was retired and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Gaffney Country Club. He attended Palm Beach Gardens College in Florida. Surviving in addition to his parents are a daughter, Michelle Motz of Lincolnton, NC; two grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Adler of Gaffney. Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Roger Lindler. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Pall bearers will be Rob Irwin, David Motz, Donnie Adler, Matthew Martin, Ray Barwick and Bill Yesberg. The family is at the residence.

Shirley J. Byers
Shirley J. (Coleman) Byers, age 70, formerly of Canton and more recently of Temple Terrace, FL., died on May 11, 2002 after an extended illness. Born in Canton, Shirley resided here until moving to Florida in 1972, where she was a special education aide. In addition to her parents Robert Coleman and Mildred (Mott) Coleman Tucke, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jack E. Byers in 1992; and a brother, Harry “Red” Coleman. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey (Marilyn J.) Barr of Plain Twp; four sons, John, Steven and Dean Byers all of Florida, and Todd Byers of Louisiana; brother, Thomas Coleman of Redding, CA. The family will host a memorial reception from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday June 15, 2002 in the Beck Fellowship Hall of Zion United Church of Christ 415 S. Main St. N. Canton, OH. Mary T. Sundbury
Mary T. Sundbury, age 75, of North Canton, died Friday night in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. Born in Flemington, NJ, she had lived in N. Canton, Boston, MA, and Charlotte, NC, returning to N. Canton 1990. She was a graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton, NJ, and was a former head nurse at Timken Mercy Medical Center. She was a former board member of the Lake Senior Center. Survived by her husband, Theodore W. Sundbury of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bud Crookshank of N. Canton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Theodore W. Jr. and Patricia Sundbury of Canton, Mark and Linda Sundbury of N. Canton; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in N. Canton with Msgr. Jay Clarke as celebrant. Burial will be in North Canton Cemetery. Letha Britton, age 70, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 5, 2002. Born June 8, 1931, in Bennetsville, SC. Preceded in death by her father, Jonas Ivery, mother, Agnes Miller, sister, Willa Mae Ivery. Letha leaves to cherish her precious memories, her loving and devoted husband, John A. Richard Shrake II
Richard W. Shrake II, age 54, of Canton, passed away Friday morning June 7, 2002, at his home following a recent illness. He was born Oct. 17, 1947, in Canton. He was a graduate of Lehman High School, Case Western Reserve University of NH and the University of Akron School of Law. Richard was a practicing attorney and was formerly employed by the Civil Rights Commission of Ohio. He is survived by his mother, Grace “Pat” Schrake of Canton; his son, Richard W. Shrake III and his wife, Alexandria of Bristol, VT; his sister, Susan Snyder and her husband, David of North Canton; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard W. Shrake. According to Richard’s wishes there will be no memorial service. His arrangements were entrusted to the Heritage Cremation Society.
Kristin N. Henry
Kristin N. Henry, age 32, of Canal Fulton. Earth’s most precious gift has gone to be with her Lord on Friday, June 7, 2002 at Aultman Hospital, Canton, following a nine month battle with Leukemia. Kristin was born in Barberton, December 3, 1969, had been a lifelong resident of the area and was a 1988 graduate of Northwest High School. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend and her infectious laugh will always be remembered. Survived by husband, Wayde; children, Andrew (15), Allison (6) and Aaron (3); mother, Connie (Terry) Heintzman; father, Tom (Kristy) Derry; brother, Shane Derry; devoted mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joyce and William J. Henry; grandfather, Hayden Mashburn; many aunts, uncles and friends. Funeral service Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 336 W. Market St., Canal Fulton, OH with Pastor Terry Mohr officiating. Burial Union Cemetery. Terry Guillan
Terry Guillan, age 57, of Massillon, passed away Friday at University Medical Center following an extended illness. Terry was born October 22, 1944 in Massillon to the late Antonio and Dolores (Vales) Guillan. He graduated from Washington High School in 1963, from Kent State University in 1969 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1970. For 30 years he was Vice President and Controller of Standard Testing Labs in Massillon. Currently he is the owner of the accounting firm of Guillan & Co. in Massillon. He was an avid harness racehorse fan and owner for many years. He was a member of Shady Hollow Country Club, Elks, Eagles and K of C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1971 and twin granddaughters, Rose and Zeta Russell in 2000. He is survived by wife, LaVera “Pinkie” (Aderholt) Guillan of Massillon; daughters, Mrs. Doug (Delores) Eilrich of Houston, TX, Mrs. James (Teresa) Russell of Massillon; son, Antonio J. (Kristin) Guillan of Massillon; sisters, Toni Bartolic of Jackson Twp. and Dolores Weitz of Massillon; one granddaughter, Chalina Russell. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon, Fr. Raymond Paul will officiate. Burial will be at the Massillon Cemetery. Thomas K. Ellis
Dr. Thomas K. Ellis, age 85, of Massillon, died Saturday morning at The Landing of Canton where he had resided for one year. He was a retired physician and surgeon of Urology with 50 years service for the Stark County Medical Association. Formerly served as Chief of Staff for Massillon City Hospital and was the former Massillon City Public Health Commissioner and Medical Director for 19 years. He was the son of Arthur T. and Bess (Kerstetter) Ellis. He was a World War II Captain in the Army Medical Corps, graduated from the 1933 Class of Washington High, 1937 Class of Mt. Union College and 1944 Class of Ohio State University School of Medicine. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity at Mt. Union College and the Nu Sigma Nu Medical Fraternity at OSU. A member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry for many years. Former member of Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of the Grand Army of the Republic and First Families of Ohio, the Stark County Power Squadron, Stark County Medical Association and the American Medical Association. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anita D. Ellis; daughter, Julie K. and son-in-law, Michael H. Murphy; son, Jeffrey T. and daughter-in-law, Francis H. Ellis; grandson, Matthew T. Murphy; granddaughter, Lauren V. Murphy. The body has been cremated. Service arrangements will be announced at a later date. The family does suggest contributions to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Massillon, OH.
Ella Yerkey-Powell
Rev. Ella M. Yerkey-Powell, age 80, was carried away by the angels into the arms of Jesus on Monday night, June 3, 2002 in Wheeling, WV. Ella was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who spent her life working for the Lord and giving to others. Prior to becoming an ordained minister, she had taught Sunday School for over 30 years and sang in various church choirs all her life. Ella's now singing with the angels. Preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ella Charlton; stepmother, Mildred Lang; two sons, Gene and Terry Yerkey; two brothers, Albert and Ernest Charlton, Jr.; a sister, Mary Lou Melvit. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Blain and Karen Yerkey, Fred and Melinda Yerkey and one daughter, Susan Yerkey, all of Canton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ellis and Rose Charlton of West Virginia, Robert and Mary Charlton of Texas; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren. We were blessed that Ella touched so many lives with her love, kindness, prayers and guidance. She will be greatly missed, much more than words can express. God saw that Ella was getting tired and a cure was not to be. He put His loving arms around her and whispered, “Well done, my daughter, come on home and I will give you rest.” There will be a celebration of Ella’s life on Sunday, June 16, 2-5 p.m. at 326-53rd St., Canton, OH. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in her name.
Doris H. Weed
Doris H. Weed, age 91, died June 7, 2002 at Altercare of Louisville after an extended illness. Her husband, Albert H. Weed preceded her in death in 1958. She was born April 21, 1911 in Cleveland to Howard and Elizabeth (Aldridge) Hawkins. Her sister, Eunice I. Frederick, passed away on April 1 of this year. Doris had extensive musical and secretarial training before moving to Minerva, OH in 1972. She was an organist for the Church of The Blessed Hope for many years and involved in Cleveland music circles. She served as an administrative secretary in the Shaker Heights Board of Education and West Geauga Board of Education for 21 years. She is survived by two nephews, James Frederick and his wife, Penny of Hartville, Arthur L. Brenneman and his wife, Kay of Shaker Heights; a great-nephew, David Frederick and his wife, Megan of East Rochester; cousins, Eunice Alleman of Houston, TX, Alice Thomson of Peachtree City, GA, Howard Hawkins and his wife, Shirley of Whittier, CA, Jean Lamb of Strawberry, AZ. Funeral services will be Monday evening at 8 p.m. in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland.

Becky L. (Benedict) Faulkner, age 57, of Canton, loving mother and grandmother, passed away Friday, June 7, 2002 in Mercy Medical Center. She was born on July 29, 1944 in McArthur, OH and was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Benedict. Becky leaves behind her mother, Eleanor Benedict; one daughter, Bonnie Boswell; three sons, Nick, Randy and Terry Faulkner; six grandchildren, Tabitha, Shakila, Kizzi, Nicholas II, Jack and Courtland; two sisters, Barbara and Cindy; one brother, Les. The family will receive friends Monday in the Reed Funeral Home 5-8 p.m. Additional calling hours will be held in the Garrett Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, OH 40336 on Tuesday 12-2 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Elk Cemetery, McArthur, OH with Fr. Larry Lane officiating. Eva M. Hohman
Eva M. Hohman, age 90, of Louisville, loving mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002 in St. Joseph Care Center following an extended illness. Eva was born September 28, 1911 in Harrisburg, the daughter of the late Francis and Julia (Frank) Saunier. Eva was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville. Eva leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Maureen Hohman of Massillon; two brothers, Lawrence and Albert Saunier; a grandson, Kevin Scott Hohman and his wife, Tracy of Louisville; and a great-grandson, Robert Thomas Hohman. She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis N. Hohman, who passed away May 9, 1985; a sister, Gertrude Smith; a brother, Clarence Saunier; and a grandson, Robert Paul Hohman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church with Msgr. Ken Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Parish cemetery. Friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville.

Charles Wilson, Jr., passed away. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at 6 p.m. at Rhoden Memorial Home. Final interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
