Bette E. Lehman, 84, of Canton, died Sunday morning, May 12, 2002 at home. She was a member of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church and was well known for over 30 years as a waitress and caterer at The American Legion of Canton and the Four Winds Restaurant. Born in Canton, July 4th 1918 to the late Harry and Edna (Owen) Hinton, she is survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles J; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Norman Ward of Canton; son, Timothy C. of Akron; grandchildren, Timothy J. Ward, Jennifer E. Ward, and her fiancee, Jeff Geisey; great grandson, Cody Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn J. Hardesty. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday May 23, at Karlo-Feucht Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd. NW, with Rev. Charles Ulmer officiating. Friends will be received Wednesday 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 925 S. Main Street North Canton, OH 44720

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Greensburg Cemetery, Green, OH. Donald Hornberger DC
Donald Hornberger DC, 76, of Massillon, died Sunday May 12, 2002 in Altercare of Navarre. The son of Lowell and Gail Hornberger, he was born in West Lebanon, OH., October 11, 1925. A WWII Navy veteran, he started the Hornberger Chiropractic office where he practiced for 40 years. A member of Grace United Church of Christ, he was a Past President of the Massillon Rotary Club and a charter member of the Tiger Gun Club. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lois J. (Bucksbarg) Hornberger; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark D. and Lori of Massillon; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Denny Conley of Canton; grandson, Josh Hornberger; and sister, Velma Summers, both of Massillon. Private services were held Tuesday.

Elva Jo-An Cammel
Elva Jo-An Cammel, age 63 of Moon Twsp., PA, passed away Saturday at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh after a brief illness. Jo-An was born in Narrows Run, OH. She had lived in Pittsburgh the past 33 years, prior to that she lived in Canton. She was of Catholic faith. She was a graduate of McKinley High School. She was preceded in death by her father, Hiram Barnett. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Ronald of the home; one son, Anthony of Wellsburg, WV; two daughters, Rhonda Puff of Follansbee, WV and Kimberly Cammel of Clinton, PA; two granddaughters, Victoria Puff and Rose Anna Rein; mother, Rose Barnett of Canton, OH; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Almira and Roland Prysock, Wilma and James Bannevich and Gloria Meyer all of Canton; one brother and sister-in-law, Hiram and Sue Barnett of Newscomerstown, OH. Friends may call Wednesday evening at the Rossi Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. John Zuzik officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.

Ernest J. Wilder, Jr.
Ernest James Wilder, Jr., age 50, of Lynchburg, died Friday, May10, 2002 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born Aug. 7, 1951 in Cleveland, OH, he was a son of Lillian Wilder of Cleveland and the late Ernest J. Wilder, Sr. Ernie was a dispatcher for Terrell E. Mosley, Inc. of Lynchburg. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Karen Wilder; daughters, Marci Marie Wilder of Lynchburgh and Anastasia Marie Vrettas of California; sister, Carole Bostwick of Cleveland, OH. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Lynchburg, with Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service in the Commons area of the church. The family will receive friends Tuesday 7-8:30 p.m. at Whitten Park Ave. Chapel, 1336 Park Ave., Lynchburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arc of Central Virginia, 1508 Bedford Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24503 or The American Heart Assoc.

Ethel K. Warner. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave., with Rev. Michael Bragg officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday one hour before the services (12-1 p.m.).

Helen M. Skinner
Helen M. Skinner, age 95, of North Canton, passed away May 11, 2002, at St. Luke Lutheran Home. Born in Alliance, April 30, 1907, to the late Charles and Mary Stull, she retired from Monarch Rubber Co. in 1969 after 34 years service. Member of Hartville Church of the Brethren and past member of Hartville AARP, Middlebranch and Hartville Senior Citizens. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Norma J. and Ronald Humbert of North Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Ellen Hartong of Uniontown; daughter-in-law, Patricia Hartong of Louisville; stepdaughters, Mary Hershberger, Alice (Charles) Carney and Nancy (John) Griffin, all of Uniontown; stepson, Philip Skinner Jr. (Mariann) of Hartville; brother, Charles Stull Jr. of Massillon; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two husbands, William Hartong in 1958 and Philip Skinner in 1989; three brothers; one sister; son, Donald D. Hartong; grandson, Bryan S. Humbert; granddaughter, Barbara Makary. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Karlo Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Tobin Crenshaw and Pastor Peter Kaltenbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Lucy B. Borzea
Lucy B. Borzea, age 67 of Canton, OH passed away Sunday evening, May 12, 2002 in the residence following a brief illness. Born in Sistersville, WV, May 23, 1934 to her parents the late Wylee and Ira Still, she lived most of her life in the Canton area. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Borzea, July 14, 1991. Survivors include her son, John Borzea of Canton; her granddaughter, Rachel Borzea of Canton. Other members of the family include, Marie Barone, and her sons, Michael Lowers and Randy Barone and mother, of Marie, Linda Sergeant. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 1:30 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond L. Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in her name to the funeral home for funeral expenses.

Margaret E. Keller
Margaret E. Keller, age 74, of Canton, OH, passed away Sunday morning, May 12, 2002 in the Legends Nursing Home following an extended illness. Born in Canton, OH, April 30, 1928 to her parents the late Galen and Mildred H. (Sterling Pfaus. She was former co-owner and operator for 35 years of the Whipple Heights Union 76 and Harrison-West Tuscarawas Union 76 Stations. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, past member of the Lady Lions Club, Elks Club and an avid bowler and race car enthusiast. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest W. Keller, March 29, 1989; her sister, Catherine White; brother, Thomas Pfaus. Survivors include five children and their spouses, Linda Harbert, James and Pat Keller, Scott and Kim Keller and Susan Rexrode, all of Canton, Pam and Ken Gresko of Navarre, OH; seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, 702 Raff Rd. SW, Canton with Pastor Kenneth Scheck officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the church Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Diabetes Foundation. The Reed Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marie Irene Bachtel
Marie Irene Bachtel, was born in Canton, OH, December 15, 1909, the daughter of Clyde and Alice Bachtel (nee Baughman). She lived in Canton until she moved to Middleburg Heights, OH, in 1983. Marie was a decendant of David Bachtel, one of the original settlers and founders of Stark County. She was preceded in death by a sister, Willima C. Sweet (Wilma's husband, Wendell, is also deceased). She is survived by a nephew, William Sweet (wife, Jane), Berea, OH; great-nieces, Rebecca (husband, Gokhan) Saldirdak of New York City and Sarah Sweet of Berea; and great-nephew, Robert Sweet of Berea. Marie graduated from Lincoln High School in Canton, OH. Marie graduated from Heidelberg College, Tiffin, OH, with a Bachelor of Arts in 1932. She took additional art courses from the University of Akron, the University of California and studied for a summer in Mexico at the International School of Art. She taught at Timken High School in Canton, and retired from Teaching in 1967. She joined the Beta Beta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society in 1944. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Middleburg Heights Community Church, Middlebranch Heights, OH. Prior to that, she was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Canton, OH. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 3909 Blackburn Rd., NW, Canton, OH 44718 on Saturday, May 18, 2002. Private internment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Canton, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Marie's name to the memorial fund at either Middleburg Heights Community Church, 7165 Big Creek Parkway, Middleburg Heights, OH 44130 or Trinity United Church of Christ, 3909 Blackburn Rd., NW, Canton OH 44718.

Mary M. Wise
Mary M. Wise, age 80, of Hartville, passed away Sunday night May 12, 2002 in Aultman Hospital. Born February 9, 1922 in Wetzel County, WV. to the late Jason and Mabel (Kiger) Hinerman. She attended Grace Brethren Church of Middlebranch and was a 1940 graduate of Hartville High School. Mary retired from Monarch Rubber Co. in 1975 after 17 years of service. Preceded in death by her husband, Herbert H. Wise, September 24, 2000. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Mary and Jerry August of Greentown, Robin Wise of Sebastopol, CA; sons and daughters-in-law, Herbert and Kathryn Wise Jr. of Spencer Port, NY, David and Sue Wise of Alliance, Jon and Shawn Wise of Willoughby; close family friend, Jody Hymes; sisters and brothers-in-law, Becky and Harold Tessmer, Opal and Sam Allen, Peggy and Ken Zellers, Maxine Reese; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Shirley Hinerman, George and Joan Hinerman, Max and Sandra Hinerman; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason and Janet August, Hal Wise, Gregory and Aaron Wise, Julie Mills, Jonathan and Michael Wise, Amanda French and Ashley Dusseau and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a sister, Dolly and four brothers, Ralph, Wilson, Bob and Clarence. A special thanks is extended to Sara Miller and Betty Erb for their loving care. Funeral services will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville with Dr. Robert Divine officiating. Interment will be in St. Jacob's Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday (10-11:00 a.m.). Robert A. Banta, Sr.
Robert Allen Banta, Sr., age 58, of Dellroy, OH, passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, May 12, 2002 following an apparent heart attack. Born in Hannibal, MO, Dec. 2, 1943 to his parents the late Warren Russell and Lovie C. (Stringer) Banta, he lived most of his life in the Canton area and was a 1962 graduate of Timken High School. He was currently Vice President of P.J.'s Fabricating Inc. Mr. Banta was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He died doing what he enjoyed most which was riding his horses. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Survived by his loving wife, Theresa Banta of the home to whom he would have been married 12 years, Nov. 16, 2002; three sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Banta Jr. of Port Orange, FL, Joseph and Starla Banta of Malvern, OH, David Banta of Bellingham, WA; three brothers, Russell Banta of Indiana, James Banta of East Canton, OH, Gary Banta of Canton; four grandchildren, Tailor, Courtney, Jesse and Dallas. He will be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond L. Tucker officiating. Visitation for the immediate family and friends will be one hour prior to the services Wednesday 6-7 p.m. At the request of the family his body has been cremated.

Robert L. Barber, Sr.
Robert L. Barber, Sr., age 82, of Canton, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center. A lifetime resident of Canton, he was a retired employee of the Berger Division of Republic Steel with 37 years of service. A member of Market Heights United Church of Christ, Bob was a man committed to his family, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed bowling, baseball and high school sports. Preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Lena (Leopold) Barber; three sisters, Jeanette Minor, Emma Barber and Margaret Sis Tangler. Survived by his wife, Eleanor (Sukosd) Barber, they would have celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary on Oct. 17, 2002; two daughters and son-in-law, Darlyne Barber, Linda and Rennard Bud Merry, Jr., all of Canton; a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Dr. Bob and Melody Barber, Jr. of Chardon; grandchildren, Lisa (Vega) Whitt, April (Vega) Phillips, both of Canton, Hannah Mae Barber of Chardon; great-grandchildren, Lyric Lynn Phillips, Donnie Whitt; and, a sister, Martha Minor of Canton. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Welch-Sekeres-Lewis Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Robert Lair and Rev. Dr. Robert Barber will officiate. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday two hours prior to the services in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Huntsburg Congregational Church, PO Box 307, Huntsburg, OH 44046.

Ruth S. Henderhan
Ruth Sophia (Meyer) Henderhan, age 88, of Canton, passed away Saturday evening in Carroll Health Care Center in Carrollton, following an extended illness. Ruth was born March 11, 1914, in Wayne, Ohio, daughter of the late William C. and Nellie M. (Kemmer) Meyer. She was a member of Paradise United Church of Christ in Louisville. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Henderhan; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include three sons and daughters and sons-in-law, William J. and Charlotte Henderhan of Canton of Canton, David J. Henderhan of Canton and Roger and Karleen Henderhan of Louisville; five daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen Booth of Canton, Lillian and Ray Skipper of Carrollton, Ruth and Ray Young of Anchorage, Alaska, Peggy Brechbill of Deleware, OH., Christine and Ronald Rinkes of Canton; two sisters, Hazel Horst of Carrollton and Pauline Pearson of Sherrodsville; there are 30 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Paradise United Church of Christ in Louisville with Dr. Kline Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Louisville. Friends may call one hour prior to the services on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. in the church.

Sarah Alice Tabler
Sarah Alice Tabler, age 77 of Malvern, passed away late Sunday evening in Aultman Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Born Dec. 25, 1924 in Philippi, WV and had lived in our area the past 40 years. Preceded in death by her parents, James (Jimbo) and Etta Mayle; four brother, Gus, Phillip, Leander and Alfred Mayle; two nieces, Juliann and Roselee Mayle; five nephews, Wilkie Mayle, Alan Glen Tabler, Paul Douglas Tabler, Eddie Dean Dalton, Joseph Dalton. Survived by her husband, Charles E., whom she married Jan. 29, 1949; one daughter and son-in-law Alice F. and Larry Martin; one granddaughter, Tiffany Lynn Tabler, all of Canton; three sisters, Flo Ann Mayle of Louisville, Stella Mae Dalton of Canton, Carrie Mae (Lay) Tabler of Malvern; three brothers, Junior Mayle of Canal Fulton, James (Dump) Mayle, V, Ira (Cab) Mayle, both of Philippi, WV; several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Waltner-Simchak Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth E. Dalton officiating. Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment in Bethlehem Cemetery, Malvern.

Frederick C. Neisel
Frederick Fred C. Neisel, age 85, of Canton, died Sunday evening in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Son of the late Frederick and S. Metta (Wales) Neisel. He was a life resident of the Canton area, retiring from Ohio Transformer in 1981 after 16 years of service. He was formerly employed by Preston Clay Company for many years. Member of the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church where he had formerly served as an Usher. Member of Woodman of the World; and had served as a volunteer fireman with the Canton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Station #2 Waco for many years and he was an avid Sportsman. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Blanche E. Neisel, November 9, 2001, to whom he was married 64 years; two brothers, W. Emerson and Robert K. Neisel; two sisters, Minnie Baker and Lillian Penix. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Verna Lann of Olmsted Falls, OH., Glenda and Dave Skip Hughson of Canton; five grandchildren: Gerald Scafe of Olmsted Falls, Galen R. Scafe of N. Ridgeville, OH., Christopher Lann of Vermont, Cheryl Park of Michigan, David Hughson of Canton; 10 great - grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Donna Neisel of Canton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Eva Conrad of Canton, Anna and Robert Courtright of New Philadelphia. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Norman Dew officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Wednesday 7-9 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave., and one hour before the services at the church (12-1 p.m.) In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church, 3828 Cleveland Ave. S., Canton, OH 44707.

Robert H. Greene
Robert Hugh Greene, age 82, of Louisville, OH, passed away Sunday morning May 12, 2002 in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Bakersville, NC, March 18, 1920 to his parents the late Robert Lee and Ethel (Davis Greene, he was a graduate of Bakersville, NC, and lived most of his life in the Louisville area. Mr. Greene was a retired employee of Hercules Motors retiring after 32 years of service. He was a long time member of Canton Baptist Temple. Survivors include his loving wife, Elizabeth Greene of the home, to whom he was married 61 years; five sons and their spouses, Robert and Kathy Greene of Louisville, James and Sally Greene of Louisville, Larry and Valerie Greene of Arizona, David and Debbie Greene of East Canton, Gregory and Debbie Greene of Canton; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Mark Holbein of East Canton; one brother, David Harold Greene of Los Angeles, CA; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Home Harding of Bakersville, NC; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Dr. Harold Henniger officiating. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday (TONIGHT) 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in his name Canton Baptist Temple.
