Albert Louis Wise, age 79, of Hohenwald, TN, formerly of Canton, OH died Sun. May 5, 2002. Survived by sons, Gary and Greg Wise of Hohenwald, TN; daughter, Rebecca Sullivan of White House, TN; brothers, Carl Wise of Pinellas Park, FL, Don Wise of Canton, OH, David Wise of Ronan, MT; sister, Virginia Shaffer of Victoria, TX; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Allene E. Clark
Allene E. Clark, age 88, of Canton, died Wednesday. Born in Marietta, OH, she had been a Canton resident since 1945. She was retired from Dalton Industries and was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Survived by daughter, Rose E. Carosielli of Canton; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas A. and Debbi Dougherty of Uniontown; two sisters, JoAnn Walters of Marietta, OH and Rita Gibbs of Cincinnati; two brothers, Ralph Walters of Cincinnati and Joseph Walters of Youngstown; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church with Fr. Ronald klingler as celebrant. There will be no calling hours. The Lamiell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Catholic Church.
Austin Jack Cable
Austin Jack Cable. 85, of Louisville, KY, formerly of Mt. Dora, FL died Monday April 29, 2002 at Baptist East Hospital. Born in Canton, OH on Dec. 6, 1916 to Austin Brandt and Mary Cable, he was the President of Calack Construction Co. in Canton and Vice-President of Cable Enterprises in Key Largo, FL. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces serving in both Europe and Japan and a life member of the Elks Club in Canton. He was predeceased by his son, David Barton Cable in 1997 and his brother, Glenn of Steubenville, OH. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne; daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn and James Taylor of Louisville, KY; his sister Betty Clark of Florida; granddaughters, Katherine Anne Taylor of Louisville, KY and Amanda Cable of Charlotte, NC; grandsons, Dr. Ben Cable of Iowa, Andrew James Taylor of Vermont and Michael Cable of South Carolina; and three great-grandchildren. A private ceremony for friends was held at Cornell Trace Retirement Community where the Cables' resided. A private memorial for the family will be held in May. Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Palliative Care of Louisville, Kentucky.
Charles W. Lytton
Charles Wayne Lytton, age 77, of North Canton, died Sunday morning, May 5, 2002 in Aultman Hospital. Formerly of Newell, WV, born to Harry and Gladys (Hutchison) Lytton, graduate of the University of West Virginia, he worked 36 years as a geologist for East Ohio Gas Company. He served during the Korean Conflict as an Army surveyor in the Philippines. He was a member of the Church of the Lakes, and was active for many years in professional petroleum organizations, and participated in many civic projects. Survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean (Nethero) Lytton of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberlee and John Hockensmith of North Canton; son, Thomas Lytton of North Canton; granddaughter, Heidi Hockensmith of Canton; grandson, Benjamin Hockensmith of Columbus; brother, Gene Lytton of Newell, WV; sister and brother-in-law, Nelda and Don Wheeldon of Rushville, IN. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Karlo Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan George officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. David W. Chesson
David W. Chesson, age 52, of Canton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday May 4th, 2002. David was born in Steubenville, OH, on July 27, 1950. Preceded in death by his father, Francis Walter Chesson; maternal and fraternal grandparents. Survived by mother, Margaret Chesson of Steubenville; sister, Barbara (Chesson) Pankratz; and brother-in-law, Roger Pankratz; nephew, Thomas Peterson; niece, Cheryl Campbell and husband, Jerry Campbell; and great nephew, Anthony Campbell all from Canton; also survived by many wonderful friends and loved ones. David was of Catholic Faith. Services will be held at Mosti Funeral Home , 321 South 4th St. Steubenville, OH. Calling hours will be Tuesday May 7th 7-9 p.m. at Mosti Funeral Home. Burial will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery. David was a very caring, loving and devoted person. He was wonderful brother, friend and uncle. David will be missed by everyone who was blessed to have him in their lives.
Dora May Brown
Dora May Brown, age 68, of Massillon, died Sunday afternoon in Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Born Jan. 24, 1934, in Canton to the late Wallace B. Sr. and Emma Lallathin. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church and was active with the Jackson Midget League for 13 years, having served both as president and secretary. Preceded in death by her infant daughter, Doris June Brown. Survivors include her husband, James W. Brown of the home, with whom she would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on May 30, 2002; one daughter, Linda Sue Conery of Canton; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Scott and Kathy Brown of Massillon and Robert William and Linda Brown of Carrollton; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles M. Lallathin of Texas, Arthur W. Bill Ford of Florida and Wallace B. Lallathin Jr. of Massillon; one sister, Bertha Mann of Louisville; several nieces, nephews, friends and her loyal companion, Patches. Florence Gump
Florence Gump, age 80, of Dalton, passed away Sunday at Massillon Community Hospital. She was born on April 9, 1922 in Navarre to the late Walter Snyder and Bertha (Miller) Snyder Rink. She lived all of her life in the area and was a member of Massillon Baptist Temple. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Gump, Sr.; brother, Howard Snyder; a sister, Eillen Caldwell. Survived by daughters and son-in-law, Betty Williams of Dalton, Sharon Jean and Warren Brink of Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Dorothy Gump, Jr. of Massillon; brother and sister-in-law, John and Carrie Snyder of Massillon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Bill Shipley of Quaker City, Pearl and Jerry Gatrell of Mansfield, Mary and Bob Hoopingarner of Freeport; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon with Roland and Shirley Boggs officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Jane M. Bayley
Jane M. Bayley, age 85, of Canton, passed away Saturday morning in Aultman Hospital. She was born in Edgeworth, PA, a daughter of the late Clarence and Lucy Waters Middleton, and had been a Canton resident since 1924. Jane was a retired supervisor from Sanese Services. She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church and Delta Chapter #539, Order of Eastern Star, which she served as Worthy Matron in 1970 and 1983. Preceded in death by her husband, Wilber S. Bill Bayley, on March 10, 1999, and her daughter, Martha Bayley, on Nov. 5, 1991. Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Susan Bayley, and their sons, Daniel and Michael Bayley, all of Hilton, NY; four sisters, Elizabeth Rinehart of Kent, OH, Mrs. Charles (Margaret) Kingrey of Troy, OH, Mrs. Larry (Gertrude) Curren of Howard, OH and Mrs. Ruth Hemphill of Jacksonville, FL. She has been cremated and a private service will be held for her family. The family will receive friends at Jane's home, 1253 Suffield Circle NW, Canton, on Thursday from 3-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Bayley's memory may be made to either the Eastern Star Home in Mt. Joanne Lattavo
Joanne Lattavo, age 68, of Canton, passed away Sunday evening in the House of Loreto after an extended illness. Born in Canton, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas B. and Julia (Vassi) Lattavo. She was a 1951 Central Catholic High School graduate, attended Barry College in Miami, FL, and graduated from Cleveland Institute of Art and Kent State University with a Master's degree in Education. She was a past master Art teacher at Glenwood High School. She was the past curator of Lattavo Art Gallery at the Yankee Clipper in Hudson, OH and was chairman of the Fine Arts Dept. at Walsh University where she was a professor for 30 years. Joanne was an artist and her medium was painting. She showed her artwork in multiple galleries beginning in New York City in 1962. As a child she was recognized as being gifted academically, artistically and athletically. She won several awards throughout her youth and throughout her life. Recently she was one of only seven people awarded the Lifetime Service Medal in Walsh University history. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Canton Ballet Board, Canton Women's Committee, Hall of Fame Women of Stark County, and founding member and chair of Walsh University Cultural Committee. She taught dance at Walsh University and had performed with the Canton Ballet. She dedicated a large portion of her adult life to a multimedia project incorporating art, history and philosophy. Her goal was to promote balance and harmony in life. She is survived by her son, Atty Douglas John Maragas of Canton; daughter, Beth Ann Maragas of Lyndhurst, OH; brother, Gerald W. (Doreen) Lattavo M.D. of Georgetown, KY; sister, Judith McKinney of Bethesda, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in All Saints Catholic Church with Msgr. John C. Finnegan as Celebrant. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 5-8 p.m. in the Wackerly Funeral Home. Born in Shelbyville, IL, July 15, 1910 to her parents the late Thomas Lowell and Ora Mae (Terry) Slocum, she has been a resident of Canton for the past forty years coming here from Paris, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster M. Rush on May 18, 1974. Survivors include four daughters and son-in-law, Johanna and Robert Wilson of Paris, OH, Nancy Noturno of Canton, Rosemary Popa of Blairstown, NJ, Kathleen Barton of Canton; one son, John T. Ringle of Canton; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Max Bryan
Max Bryan, age 78, of Charlotte Harbor, FL, formerly of Louisville, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2002, in the Charlotte Regional Medical Center, FL. He was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Custar, OH, to the late Grover and Pearl Bryan. Max retired from Republic Steel in 1979 after 37 1/2 years of service, was a World War II Army Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne and a member of the Tri City Baptist Church, FL, serving as a Deacon. He is survived by his wife, Velma, with whom he shared 56 happy years; two daughters, Marsha Neff of Canton and Sandy Sweitzer of Saginaw, MI; one son, Tom Bryan of Canton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Tom Sweitzer; two sisters, Ila Montgomery and Opal Knox; one brother, Russell Bryan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Stier-Israel Funeral Home, Louisville, with Pastor Mark Manning of the Tri City Baptist Church officiating. Ronald G. Leach
Ronald G. Leach, age 65, of Canton, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. He had resided at Green Meadows Wellness Center for the past seven months. He was born September 12, 1936, in Mansfield, OH., to the late Cletus and Lucille (Rhinehart) Leach. He graduated from Mansfield High School in 1954 and Ohio State University in 1958. He went on as owner of the former Sleep Shop in the 1980's and later LL Miller Inc. in the 1990's. He is survived by his two sons, Eric (Cheryl) of Canton and Ryan of Haltom City, TX; and two granddaughters. No calling hours will be held. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery, Mansfield, OH.

Ruby M. Pusateri, age 86, of Canton, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, died Sunday at Mercy Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Wayne D. Arnold
Wayne D. Arnold, age 65, of Marlboro, OH., passed away Monday May 6, 2002 in Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born August 5, 1936 in Toronto, OH., to the late Frank and Eska (Ferguson) Arnold. Wayne retired from Union Metal, and was a Korean War Army Veteran, a life member of the VFW #7490, a member of the American Legion #548, Louisville F.O.E. #2374, Marlboro Lions Club, Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department, and the H.O.G. Club. He is survived by his wife, Betty of 42 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Bob Nyland of Canton, Tami and Tim Roberts of Marlboro; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tim and Candis of Canton, and Dean of Akron; two sisters, Mary Lou Wilkins of Sebring, OH., and Ellie Wilson of Ashland, OH; one brother, Ray Arnold of Minerva; four grandchildren, Wayne Neiman, Brandi Ryan, and Bailey Roberts. Wayne I. Spies
Wayne I. Spies, age 76, of Canton, died Friday evening in Aultman Hospital due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident that occurred on April 6, 2002 in North Carolina. Born December 23, 1925 in Beach City to Glenda and the late Ira Spies. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, was a 1943 graduate of Massillon Washington High School, was a U.S. Navy Air Corp Veteran and was the owner of WISCO. He was a member of William McKinley Lodge #431 (Fidelity Lodge) F A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Al Koran Shrine, the Massillon Shrine Club, the Gyro Club of Canton, the U.S. Power Squadron, the Massillon Tiger Booster Club, and was the secretary of the Massillon Tiger Booster Club from 1965-1986, a member of the Carroll Count Historical Society and a charter member of the Carroll County Commission for the Advancement of the Arts. Preceded in death by his son, Douglas A. Spies on July 25, 1974. Survivors include his wife, Beverly (Brown) of the home with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage on August 20, 2001; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah K. and Scott Druhot; two grandchildren, Benjamin Douglas and Elizabeth Christiana Druhot all of Willoughby, OH; and his mother, Glenda Spies. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home weith Rev. Al Irby officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Gertrude (Weaving) Kuchta
Gertrude (Weaving) Kuchta, 81, Canton, OH, wife of the late George H. Kuchta, died, Friday, May 3, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center, Canton, OH. She was born July 3, 1920 in Naugatuck, CT, daughter of the late, Charles E. and Agatha (Reagon) Weaving, was raised in the Gilbert Home in Winsted, CT, and had lived in New Hartford, CT for many years prior to moving to Ohio seven years ago. She was a veteran of World War II having served with Naval Intelligence in Washington, DC from 1943-46. She was a Yeoman Second Class and was the recipient of the American Campaign Ribbon and Word War II Victory Medal. Mrs. Kuchta was employed at Canton High School for 20 years prior to her retirement in 1995. She was a member of WIMSA, The Collinsville Congregational Church in CT, American Legion Post 28, and the Women's Auxiliary in New Hartford, CT and the Riverton Grange #169. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Clifford and her husband, Steven, of Ohio, George Kuchta and his wife, Anne Marie of Granby, CT, Joan Chamberlain and her husband, Jack of Manchester, CT, Charles Kuchta and Francine Milette of Barkhamsted, CT, Heidi Kuchta of Manchester, CT; a sister, Doris Kelly of Naugatuck, CT and six grandchildren, Brian P. Kuchta, Jack Chamberlain, Jr., Ruth, Paul, Heidi and Robert Clifford. She was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Calderwood and a brother, Edward Weaving.
