Archie Temple
Archie Temple, age 84, of Columbus, OH, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital. Retired from Big Bear Stores. Member of Alkire Road Church of Christ and the Golden Alkires. Preceded in death by parents, Harvey and Malissa (Judson) Temple; four brothers; and one sister. Survived by wife of 63 years, Bernice (Dennison) Temple; daughters, Rebecca (John) Lowry of Pickerington and Debra (David) Stires of Canton; granddaughters, Amy Stevenson, Abby Lowry, Gwynn Ogborn, Kristen Phillips, and Melissa Stires; six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and special niece, Gertrude (Don) Geary. Funeral service 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4 at SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL 3030 W. Broad St. where friends may call 6-9 p.m. Friday. Mark Bass officiating. Interment 3 p.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery, Glenford, OH. Contributions may be made to the Alkire Road Church of Christ in his memory.

Ben F. Kimbrough, passed away on May 1, 2002 at Smith Nursing Home. He was born in Allenville, KY and had lived in the Canton Community for over 40 years. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2002 at 12 Noon at Rhoden Memorial Home (Akron Location), 1101 Palmetto Ave. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service. Carl J. Birone, age 84, of Canton, passed away Thursday morning in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Birone. His calling hours will Sunday 6-9 p.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home.
Catherine Appleby
Catherine A. Appleby, age 95, died at The Landing of Canton on May 1. She graduated from Canton McKinley High School in 1925 and from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1928. She served as head nurse in the Mercy Nursery for many years. She was a life resident of the Canton-Massillon area an a member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Massillon. Survived by a daughter, Mrs. Timothy (Mary Lou) Paul of Twinsburg, OH; a son, Dr. James E. Appleby of Champaign, IL; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Massillon with Fr. Raymond Paul officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no calling hours and the services Saturday will form at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to your favorite charity. The Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon is handling the arrangements.

James F. McHenry
James F. McHenry, age 76, passed on to the next world, April 22, 2002 at Terrace View Nursing Home, Millersburg, OH from heart failure. He was born in Carrollton, OH, May 30, 1925. James was a life long resident of Canton, OH, prior to his stay at Terrace View. James worked a significant part of his adult life as a grocer at the former Joe Guilod's, 9th St. SW. He attended Timken High School, and was a past member of Toastmasters. Survived by a son, Jim McHenry of Chicago, IL; brother, Richard McHenry; sister, grace Burlingame, both of Canton; two stepdaughters, Marian Kasunick and Billie Adams; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Neva McHenry; sister, Cleo Malcuit; brother, John A. McHenry. James donated his body to Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, to further medical education and research for their medical school. His peculiar sense of the amusing, and his unique spirituality will be missed by all those who loved him. A memorial service for the family will be arranged privately.
John E. Ferencz
John E. Ferencz, age 68, of N. Canton, died Wednesday night in Mercy Medical Center after an extended illness. A life resident of the Canton area, he was a 1951 graduate of McKinley High School. He retired in 1983 from Diebold Inc. after 31 years of service. He later worked for Sherwood RTM Corp. for seven years. He was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church and the N. Canton Elks Lodge #2029. John was an avid golfer at Skyland Pines. Survived by his wife, Virginia L. (Ginger) Ferencz, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Edward Moose of Taylorsville, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lisa Ferencz of Canton; three grandchildren, Emily and Zachary Moose and Courtney Ferencz; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bob Grisez of Canton; and a brother, Richard Ferencz of Pittsburgh, PA. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy (Willi) Ferencz. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Lamiell Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas A. Patton officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Friday (tonight) from 7-9 p.m.

Benjamin Curlutu
Benjamin Curlutu, age 80, of Canton passed away Tuesday morning, April 30, 2002 in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on February 18, 1922 in Marion, OH., to the late Simon and Flora (Miku) Curlutu. He resided in the Canton area most of his life and was retired in 1982 from CW Transport following 42 years of service. Mr. Curlutu was baptized in the Romanian Eastern Orthodox faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Curlutu, November 6, 1980; and four brothers, Andrew, Rudolph, Steven and Gerald Curlutu. Benjamin is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin Jr. and LaDene Curlutu of Canton; his daughter, Jennifer Curlutu of Canton; step-son, Gary Thacker of Tampa, FL; one grandson, Chad Curlutu of Canton; four brothers, Adam, Daniel Simon and George Curlutu all of Canton; and his sister, Mary Curlutu of Canton. There are many nieces and nephews also surviving. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond L. Tucker officiating. Burial will be in New Cumberland Cemetery, Tuscarawas County. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday (TONIGHT) 7-9 p.m.
Gilbert Duane Smith
Gilbert Duane Smith, age 62, of Canton passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at The Cleveland Clinic. Duane was born May 13, 1939 in Morgan County, OH. He is the son of Pauline Hill-Smith-Ramsey and the late Carroll Smith. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and he served in the U.S. Airforce. He was a retired construction worker of Laborers Local 1015. He is survived by his wife, Elba (Tabler) Smith, together they had three children, Valerie and Edwin Sepulveda of Masssillon, OH, Brian and Yolanda Smith of Canton, OH, and Monica and Irvin Mayle of Cutler, OH, Duane; had six grandchildren, Crista Scott, Ryan Smith, Shawanda Smith, Andrew Mayle, Amanda Mayle and Jerus Smith; one sister, Frances Chandler of Zanesville; five brothers, Charles Smith of Rineyville, KY, Roger Smith of Newton Falls, OH, David Smith of Chesterhill, OH, Carlyn Smith of Mineral City, and John Ramsey of Canton. Duane was preceded in death by one sister, Eva Smith; three brothers, Donald Smith, Phillip Smith, Steven Smith; and a step-father, Kennard Ramsey. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Mt. Hermon Church, RFD Aimesville, OH, with Rev. Ronald Howard officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Church Cemetery.
