Carl L. Sheatzley
Carl L. Sheatzley, age 87, of Canton, passed away Friday evening in his residence after an extended illness. He was born in North Industry, OH., a son of the late Lyman and Bessie Rice Sheatzley, and was a life resident of the Canton area. He was a 1933 graduate of McKinley High School. Carl retired in 1977 from Wean United, after 37 years service, where he was Production Supervisor. He was a member and Elder of Calvary Presbyterian Church and a member of the Keenagers of First Christian Church; a Patron of the McKinley Alumni Assoc.; also a member of the Canton Preservation Society, and the Friends of both the Stark County District Library and the Palace Theatre. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Suzy (Cosner) Sheatzley, in 1968, his second wife, Donna (Ridgeway) Sheatzley, in 1999; three brothers, Howard, Vernon, and Alvan Sheatzley; and two sisters, Pearl Wharmby and Marvella Kowalczyk. Survived by his daughter, Rosannah Lambert, of the home; a step-son and his wife, Charles and Cathy Ridgeway, Jr. of Dover; one granddaughter, Jennifer D. Peters and her daughters, Gabrielle and Katelin Peters, all of the home; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Maurer, of Bluffton, OH., Ladine and Paul Momirov, of Waynesburg, Betty and John Creager, of Canton; a close sister-in-law and her husband, Mary Lou and Adam Machamer, of Hartville; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Mildred Sheatzley, of N. Canton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger and Gordon Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Brinsley, Mercy Medical Chaplain, officiating. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Sheatzley's memory may be made to either the American Cancer Society, Mercy Medical Hospice, or the charity of your choice.

Fern (Red) Zimmerman, age 62, of Goshen Rd., Salem, OH., died Friday morning. Employed 13 years at St. Regis Paper Co. in Canton. Survived by husband, G. Edward; two sons; five daughters; and mother; one brother; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Services Monday 11 a.m. at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. Frederick M. Mong
Frederick M. Mong, age 99, of Canton, died Thursday morning at the Canton Christian Home. He was born on April 4, 1903 in Medina County, and was the son of the late John M. and Rachel (Holmes) Mong. He was a Veteran of World War II with three years of service in the Signal Corps and Air Force. He graduated from Wooster High School in 1921 and Ohio State University in 1926 where he was elected to Eta Kappa Nu - Honorary Electrical Engineer Fraternity. He retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company with 42 years of service. He also worked as a contract engineer of Southern Bell Telephone Company for six years and for the Pacific Bell Telephone Company for eight years in the San Francisco Bay area of California, thus completing 56 years of service in the telephone industry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara J. (Roger) Mong; his son, Richard L. Mong; and his sisters, Mary Naftzger and Bertha Bishop. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Alice and Lehn Locke of Canton; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Barbara J. Mong of Oakhurst, CA; his daughter-in-law, Nancy Mong of Canoga Park, CA; five grandsons, Scott, Tom, Bill, Steve and David Mong; and three great grandsons, Tim, Randy and Kevin Mong. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel in the Canton Christian Home. Interment will follow in North Lawn Cemetery. John T. Dambrowski
John T. Dambrowski, age 80, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2002 at the Walnut Creek Nursing Home in Dayton. John was born August 23, 1921 in Canton to the late Joe and Magdalena (Bzoski) Dambrowski and graduated from McKinley High School in 1939. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1988 after 41 years of service at Furbay Electric in Canton. He had lived for 49 years on Shepler Church Ave. until moving to Dayton in 1998. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agatha in 1991; brothers, Joseph, Walter, Edward; and a sister, Mary. Survivors include daughter, Anne Dambrowski of Cambridge, NY; sons, John (Marjorie) Dambrowski of Dayton, Michael (Beth) Dambrowski of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Helen Mitchell of Beloit; grandchildren, Adam, Nick, Kristen and James. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Clements Catholic Church, Fr. Robert Gibas will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Joyce Ann Yeager
Joyce Ann Yeager, 65, of Minerva, died in Aultman Hospital, Saturday, April 27, 2002, following a short illness. Born in Minerva, February 20, 1937, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Pettit) Loughley. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2199 Auxiliary; and retired as a cashier at Minerva True Value Hardware. She is survived by daughters, Jodi Kohler of Dennison, Mary Burtnette of Homeworth; and son, Jeff Yeager of Hanoverton; sisters, Judy Parks of East Rochester, Jackie Clower of Wadsworth and Karen Davis of Bridgeport; and five grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a half-sister, Delores and half-brother, Jimmy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2002, in the Bartley Funeral Home with Rev. Julia Rose Leno
Julia Rose (DeChiara) Leno, age 77, of Canton, went to her eternal rest Friday at home, following an extended illness, she was surrounded by her family. Born January 28, 1924, in Canton, to the late Nicholas and Anna DeChiara. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and Ladies Guild. Julie enjoyed life through her family, friends, cards and dancing. She was a past member of Our Lady of Peace and Little Flower Garden Clubs. She was a current member of the Santa maria Club and Past President and member of Columbus Womens Club. She had bowled with the Knights of Columbus Womens League. She was a Red Cross Gray Lady, volunteering over 5000 hours in 27 years of service. She was a poll worker in Ward #7 for 30 years. She loved dancing at the Polish Club with her many friends and special friend, Fergie. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Society. She loved all her card playing friends at the North Canton Civic Center and all of her special card player friends. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Canton Eagles Club #2370. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Tony Leno after 45 years of marriage. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and David Fasano of Canton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence Leno of Canton, Michael J. and Lori Leno of Canton; eight grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Natal and Florence DeChiara, Anthony DeChiara and Carl and Mary DeChiara all of Canton. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Nentwick as Celebrant and Msgr. Lou Gaetano as Con-Celebrant. Kay F. James, age 62, of Altercare of Canton, died Saturday in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. She was a life resident of Canton and had formerly worked at the Whipple Dale Workshop. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and St. John's Guild. Preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Kathryn (Terrett) James. Survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Charlene and James Sumser of Uniontown, OH., and Marianne James of Massillon; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Donna James of Strasburg, OH., Daniel and Linda James of The Villages, FL., and Thomas and Marjorie James of Canton; and many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church with Fr. Ronald Klingler as Celebrant. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Mary A. Ginnetti
Mary A. Ginnetti, age 89, of Canton, passed away Thursday afternoon in Laurels of Massillon after an extended illness. She was born in Grove City, PA, and resided in the Canton area most of her life. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a member of the Miraculous Medal Sodality. She was retired from the Hoover Co. as an employee of the cafeteria and prior to that she worked at Serv-O-Mation and the W.T. Grant Co. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Ginnetti, on April 30, 1967; her parents, John and Mary (Clemente) Mittica; four sisters, Rose Marie Mittica, Theresa Pandoli, Josephine Monteleone and Phyllis Ziccardi. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony R. and Lucille Ginnetti of Northridge, CA; two daughters, Joanne Frasher of Canton and Rose Marie Maddern of Newark, OH; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Concetta (Connie) and Gene Lanzo of Canton. Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be sung Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church with Rev. Fr. Tom Bishop, Msgr. Frank Carfagna, Rev. Fr. William Kraynak and Fr. William Hritsko as co-concelebrants. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Rossi Funeral Home Sunday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church, where the funeral procession will form. The Miraculous Medal will hold services Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. A grateful thank you to all the nurses and aides at the Laurels of Massillon for their wonderful care. And a very special thank you to Sherrie Stantz for her love and caring of our Mother.
Mary J. Dorto
Mary J. Dorto, age 72, of Massillon, passed away Friday morning April 26, 2002, in Aultman Hospital. She retired in 1995 from the Stark County MRDD as a bus driver, with 27 years of service. Following her retirement she was the bus driver for the Regency. Preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Trux; and a brother, Charles Harper. She was a loving and devoted mother to Angeline M. (Dennis) Wolfe of Canton; Tina M. (Dan) Copeland of Perry Twp.; a son, John J. (Cheryl) Dorto of Perry Twp.; a brother, Raymond E. Harper of Florida; grandchildren, Nicole Wolfe, Lea and Kiley Dorto, Adam, Taylor and Zachary Copeland. There will be no calling hours or services. Don Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Richard L. 'Rip' VanBenthuysen
Richard L. 'Rip' VanBenthuysen, age 61, of Canton, Ohio, passed away Friday, April 26, 2002, in the Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Detroit, Michigan on August 12, 1940, he was the son of the late, Herbert L. and Ruth VanBenthuysen. Richard attended Wells and Cedar Street grade schools and was a 1958 graduate of Canton Lincoln High School. He then joined the United States Army for three years, serving two years in Germany with the 8th Division Airborne, Honor Guard. In 1963 he joined the Canton Police Department and retired with the rank of Lieutenant in 1990. During his employment he served in the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau, Record and ID Bureau, Traffic Division, Crime Laboratory and spent several years in the Morals and Vice Bureaus. Mr. VanBenthuysen received a degree from Kent State University in 1976. Upon retirement he went to work for Stark County E-911 at its inception into Stark County. After two years he transferred to the Canton E-911 where he worked for seven years as a Supervisor. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara DeNicolais of New York, NY; a stepbrother, Edward Niehaus; his father-in-law, Orvel Owen; and a niece and a nephew. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the Canton Lincoln Alumni Association. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 37 years, Charlene (Owen) VanBenthuysen of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Kenneth Slaton Jr. of Hartville, OH., Beth and Eric Jackson of Canton; three grandchildren, Savannah and Kenneth Slaton III, and Ryan Jackson; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma and Art Garner of Atlanta, GA., Shirley and Don Seesholtz of Kennesaw, GA., and Joann Dimos of Canton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and Julie of Hicksville, NY., Herbert Jr. and JoAnn of Leesburg, FL., and Walter and Judy of Westmont, IL; brother-in-law, Eugene DeNicolais of New York, NY; his mother-in-law, Ladyne Owen of Canton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dianne and Denny Myers of North Canton; there are numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. There will be calling hours at the funeral home on Monday evening 6-9 p.m., and one hour before services on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. The F.O.P. will hold services on Monday evening at 5:45 p.m. His wishes were to be cremated following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity or to the Canton City Police Departments Widows and Orphans Fund.

Thomas W. Adams
Thomas William Adams, age 54, of Ft. Wayne, IN, passed away at his residence on April 20, 2002. He was born December 3, 1947 in N. Canton, OH and had been a resident of the Ft. Wayne area for 21 1/2 years. He was a Pharmaceutical Rep for Ortho-McNeil for 21 1/2 years and served in the National Guard for six years. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father and papa. Survived by his wife, Carlee, whom he married May 6, 1980 in Hyannis, MA; sons, Jefferson Donato of N. Canton, OH and Christopher James William Adams of the home; daughters, Toni Donato Yalden of Dayton, OH and Catie Adams; and granddaughter, Cayla of the home; sisters, Marcia Mallard of Nashville, TN and Suzanne Schiltz of North Canton, OH; father, William W. Adams of North Canton, OH; three more grandchildren. Remembrance service will be held Sunday, May 5, from 1-3 p.m. at the North Canton Civic Center, 845 W. Maple St. Arrangements by D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road. Memorial donations may be made to his granddaughters' education fund.
Virginia R. Smith
Virginia R. Smith, 88, of Louisville, formerly of Massillon, died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at St. Joseph Care Center following a lengthy illness. She was born May 14, 1913 at Kilgore, OH., and had lived most of her life at Massillon. She was a retired Secretary with Reutz Insurance, member of Wesley United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Peace Circle, Massillon Woman's Club, had volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Bank and had taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by parents: Thomas and Florence (Miller) Sutton; and husband, Kenneth R. Smith (1984). She is survived by son, Ken Bob Smith, of Louisville; granddaughters: Elizabeth Griffing and Dr. Wendy Hallier; sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Eileen) Schoener, of Coshocton, and Mrs. Gifford (Naomi) Crosby, of Damascus, Maryland; brothers, Rev. Thomas Sutton, of FL., and Rev. Clifford Sutton, of Nebraska; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday 11 a.m. at Atkinson-Feucht-Shaidnagle, Massillon with Dr. Don A.
