Carola Schmidt
Carola Schmidt, age 86, died Friday, April 12, 2002, in her home. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She retired with over 30 years of service from North Canton Schools where she taught second grade at Portage Elemntary School. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Victor Nicholson of Kent; two sisters, Talitha Magee of Kent and Charlotte Ward of Knoxville, TN. Preceded in death by parents, George and Rosa (Miller) Berlepp; husband, Harry T. Schmidt in 1983; brother, George Berlepp. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Karlo Son Funeral Home. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Dolores L. Raffle
Dolores Lavonne Raffle, 73, of Minerva, went to be with the Lord Friday morning April 12, 2002 following a long illness. Born in Salineville, OH, April 18, 1928, the daughter of the late Oscar Hertel and Edna (Scarry) of Salineville. She was employed at TRW in the Wax Room. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Minerva. Survivors include daughters, Carla Jo Leasure of Minerva, Carole Zeedrich of Minerva; son, Lloyd Chris (Andrea) Raffle of Minerva; brother, Carl Hertel of Minerva; eight grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Raffle in 1996. Funeral services at the Bartley Funeral Home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Terry Bailey officiating. Burial in Woodland Cemetery, Salineville. Calling hours at the Bartley Funeral Home Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Donald W. Newbauer, Sr.
Donald W. Newbauer, Sr., age 81, of Lima, OH passed away April 12, 2002 in his residence. He was born to the late, Arthur R. Ethel M. VanHorn Newbauer on July 19, 1920. He retired as Superintendent with Agrico Chemical co., in Cairo, OH in 1983, transferred to Saginaw, MI in 1977. He was a member of First Baptist Church, member of American Legion #96, former member of Lima Rotary Club, former member of Springbrook Gold Club, enjoyed golfing and a member of the VFW #1275. He was a veteran of the Marines serving during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Blanche L. Lawrence, to whom he married on July 7, 1942; three sons, Malcolm (Lois) Newbauer of Johns Island, SC, Frank (Teresa) Newbauer, and Donald Wayne (Terri) Newbauer, Jr. all of Cincinnati, OH; one daughter, Marjorie (James) Giddeon of Mobile, AL; two sisters, Mary Craven of North Canton, OH and Sally Grady of Chicago, IL; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Arthur B., Charles A., Paul S. James L. Clarence Newbauer, two sisters, Gertrude V. Newbauer and Ida Fye. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday April 15, 2002 in the Chiles Sons-Laman Shawnee Chapel with Rev. Howard Allison officiating. Burial will be in Florala Greenwood Cemetery in Florola, AL. Military service will held by the VFW #1275 at the funeral home. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or Allen Co. Humane Society. Chiles Sons-Lawman Shawnee Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy M. Valtich
Mrs. Dorothy M. Valtich, our dear and loving mother, age 92, of Canton, was gently called Home to the Lord on Thursday afternoon in the House of Loreto. She was originally born in Trieste, Austria of the late Mike and Anna Uttetic, and was brought to America exactly 90 years ago today, living most of those years in Canton. She has also been a long-time member of the beautiful, historic St. Peter's Catholic Church in Canton. In addition to her parents, her dear husband, Anthony Valtich precedes her in death, passing in 1976. She is survived by daughters, Shirley Valtich, Katherine and husband, Aaron Medley all of Canton, Betty Jagger of North Canton; sister, Mary Hillberry; and nephew, Robert Hillberry, of Anaheim, CA; and grandchildren, Jimmy Tedrick, Jennifer Jagger and Nina Medley. She was a wonderful, kind, caring, loving, and unselfish Mother and Grandmother. Her family and her faith always came first. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Canton, Monday at 10 a.m. with Msgr. John C. Finnigan as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Wackerly Funeral Home. A Parish Prayer Service will precede calling hours at 5:45 p.m. in the funeral home.

Elmer H. Evans
Elmer H. Evans, age 86, of Canton, died Tuesday in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Son of the late Orloff and Rachael (Simmons) Evans. He is retired from the South Division of Republic Steel in 1974 after 42 years of service. Member of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church, and the Pike Grange for more than 50 years. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edna (Workman) in 2001; two sisters and six brothers. He is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Gerri Kirkbride of Canton; Darlene Alborn of East Sparta, Marlene and Chuck Wagmiller of Louisville; one son, Dean Evans of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. with Rev. David Case and Rev. Peter Hall officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Monday 7-9 p.m. and one hour before services on Tuesday (12-1pm) with Grange Services at 6:45 p.m on Monday. Harold E. Gram
Harold Eugene Gram, 75, of Minerva, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, in Heart of Florida Hospital, Haines City, FL. Born in Gnadenhutten, OH., March 14, 1927, he was the son of the late Arthur Paul and Zella (Kennedy) Gram. He was retired from Minerva Welding as Founder, Owner and Chairman of the Board. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Past President of Minerva Lions Club, Past Member of the Port Washington Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Burliques Square Dance Club. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Suzanne (Ridgway) Gram of the home, whom he married March 20, 1948; sons and daughter-in-law, James and Judy Gram, Stephen and Ruth Ann Gram, Daniel and Landa Gram all of Minerva; and seven grandchildren; Danielle Lautzenheiser, Valarie, Stephanie, Jonathan, Scott, Jessica and Alexis Gram. He is preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Kail. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minerva at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002 with Rev. Joseph Ertl officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be held in the Bartley Funeral Home Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Masonic services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
M. Marie Hibbitts
M. Marie Hibbitts, age 78, a resident at the Legends Care Center in Massillon passed away Thursday April 11, 2002 following a brief illness. Born in Wise, VA on February 10, 1924 she was the daughter of the late, Johnny and Manda Mullins. She had lived most of her life in the Canton area and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Albert Hibbitts who passed away Oct. 12, 1994. She was also preceded by three brothers, Calvin, Ira and Jarvie Mullins; a sister, Lucille Gardner; and a grandson, Jason Keith Byers. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Donna Hibbits of Massillon and Ben and Cindy Hibbitts of Wooster, OH; two daughters and son-in-law, Glenda and Wade Miller of Uniontown and Barbara Ann Nickels of Canton; two sisters, Julie May Greene and Ruth Pilkins both of Wise, VA; ten grandchildren, Paula Stoll of Orrville, Lynn Hibbitts of Canton, Michael Nickels of Canton, Steve Hibbitts of New York, Heather Ashburn of Wooster, Jim Grimm of Louisville, Karen Hibbitts of Canton, Tabitha Hibbitts of Norton, VA, Amanda Hibbitts of Pound, VA and Maria Jane Hibbitts of Big Stone Gap, VA; 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. David Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Mary Elizabeth (Ingrahm) Kinsey
Mary Elizabeth (Ingrahm) Kinsey, age 86, passed away Thursday morning at Hanover House following a long illness. Mary was born August 12, 1915 in Sharon, Pennsylvania to the late Rollin Elizabeth (Cromwell) Ingrahm and lived most of her life in Massillon. She was a 1933 graduate of Washington High and was employed at the Massillon Public Library for 30 years. Betty retired in 1966 from the Evening Independent the Beacon Journal as a reporter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Atty. Ralph L. Kinsey, a published poet who served on the Massillon Municipal Court as a Judge. There are no immediate relatives. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. There will be no calling hours and the procession will form at the church. The Paquelet Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ronnie L. Coffelt
Ronnie L. Coffelt, age 60, of Akron, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 11, 2002, in Akron General Medical Center. He was born Nov. 26, 1941, in Whitleyville, TN, to Maxie and Anna Lee (McCoin) Coffelt. Mr. Coffelt was a field service representative for Monarch Machine Tool Company and had previously worked at General Tire Co. and Loral. Ronnie was a graduate of Lake High School and attended Akron University. He was a member of Old Portage Lodge #718 FAM, Scottish Rite Valley of Akron, North Canton Eagles, Mogadore Moose, Sons of American Legion #489 and was an avid golfer. Survivors include Rose Ann Coffelt; daughter, Cindy Gustin of West Virginia; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Shirley Coffelt of Hartville, Matt Coffelt of Canton, Phillip W. Coffelt of Akron; mother, Anna Lee Dean of Louisville; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Jim Novosel of Louisville; brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Diane Coffelt of White House Station, NJ; eight grandchildren, Kristin Gustin of Akron, Rachel, Sarah and Daniel Gustin of West Virginia, Carmen and Devon Coffelt of Hartville, Paige and Rhys Coffelt of Canton. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville with Dean Miller officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Peace Cemetery. William D. Burns
William D. Burns, age 88, passed away April 12, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Hollister, OH., he lived his life in the Akron area. Mr. Burns retired as a Production Manager from Goodyear Aerospace in 1969 after 30 years of service and was a member of Redeemer United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Eleanor Burns; he is survived by his daughter, Sondra Edgar of Peoria, AZ; sons, William D. (Bonnie) Burns of N. Canton, Robert S. (Nicki) Burns of N. Canton, Richard F. (Beverlie) Burns of Cuyahoga Falls, Michael J. (Cheryl) Burns of Uniontown; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Monday April 15, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 936 N. Main St., with Rev. Joyce A. Fast officiating. Burial will take place at Stow Cemetery. William R. Lewis
William R. Lewis, age 83, of Canton, passed away Friday morning in Mercy Medical Center. Born May 9, 1918 in Newland, NC to the late John L. and Maggie Lewis. Mr. Lewis endured many illnesses and fought death many times and won his final battle with his faith in God and his loving wife who took care of him. He was a resident of Stark County since 1942, was a member of All Nation's Tabernacle, retired from Ford Motor Co. in 1966 due to health and was a member of Canton Lodge #60 FAM. Preceded in death by one son, Ronald C. Lewis; one daughter, Joyce Kaw; one brother, Richard Lewis; and two sisters, Margie Garvina and Betty Buchanan. Survivors include his wife, Nola of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Helen Lewis of Canton; one daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Donald Meade of Akron; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Lewis of Canton; one sister, Jessie Lewis of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Yolanda J. Garmey, age 80, of Canton, died Friday in the McKinley Health Care Center after an extended illness. She was a life resident of Canton and was retired from the J.C. Penney Co. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Rosary-Altar Society. Survived by her husband, Dale E. Garmey of Canton; two sisters, Fannie Ruberton and Theresa M. Garmey, both of Canton; two brothers, Frank Dente of Canton, and Anthony Dente, and loving nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Frank Carfagna as Celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Zenia Zakem, age 87, of Canton, passed away Friday morning in Altercare of Canton after an extended illness. She was born in Arna, Syria, and had lived in Canton for 32 years. She was retired from Colonial Nursing Home. She was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Yousef and Jamili Saliba. She is survived by her husband, George Zakem; one son and daughter-in-law, Shafik and Laila Zakham of North Canton; two daughters, Adlet Bechara of North Canton, Janet Zakham of Damascus, Syria; two brothers, Albert Saliba of Syria, Deeb Saliba of Canton; two sisters, Mary Fahdeki of Damascus, Syria, Wardi Salbia of Arna, Syria; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Cervo officiating, assisted by Very Rev. Fr. Theodore E. Ziton and Rev. Fr. Louis Mahshie. Calling hours will be Sunday 6-9 p.m. in the ROSSI Funeral Home and also on Monday one hour at the church, 10-11 a.m. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery.
