Mabel V. Craigo
Mabel V. Zimmerman Craigo, 94, of Sugarcreek, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, in Walnut Hills Nursing Home at Walnut Creek.
Born July 9, 1907, at New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Martha Chickery Gribble.
She was a homemaker. Mable was a member of the Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ and the Ladies Guild of the Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Garaway Senior Citizens and the Ragersville Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin F. Zimmerman, in March 1979 and her second husband, Fred Craigo, in January 1987.
Survivors include one son, Glenn C. (Phyllis) Zimmerman of Coshocton; two stepsons, Warren (Barbara) Craigo of Willoughby, Allan (Jacqueline) Craigo of Mount Vernon; one brother, Roland Gribble of Dover; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren; and two daughters-in-law, Kay Zimmerman and Gloria Zimmerman.
Two sons, Robert and Gene; one granddaughter, three half-brothers, and one half-sister are deceased.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. in Smith Funeral Home at Sugarcreek. Rev. Edward W. Morrison will officiate and burial will follow in Ragersville Cemetery at Ragersville. Friends may call Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Smith Funeral home at Sugarcreek.
Harold C. Cunningham
Harold C. Cunningham, 68, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, March 15, 2002, in Union Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Born April 6, 1933, in Bolivar, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Lelia P. Dean Cunningham. Harold attended Midvale High School, and retired in 1996 from Spring Industries in Midvale. He enjoyed the outdoors where he spent time gardening and fishing. Harold was also an accomplished wood worker.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Jane Lawver with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on Nov. 24, 2001; three daughters: Debra Ann Cunningham, Sandra Kaye Cunningham and Janet Faye (Tom) Albright, all of New Philadelphia; a son, Dan C. (Sue) Cunningham of Dennison; five grandchildren, Erica Albright, Scott, Chris, Sarah and Shawn Cunningham; five brothers, Howard (Barb) Cunningham of Stone Creek; Gene (Sandy) Cunningham of Baltic; Wayne (Veronica) Cunningham and Carl (Donna) Cunningham of Dennison; and William Cunningham of New Philadelphia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicky Ann Cunningham; two sisters, Edna Hadorn and Bedina Cunningham; and three brothers, Glenn, Don and Sam Cunningham.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia with Rev. Henry E. Mooney of Roxford United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Visitation will be Monday, March 18, 2002, anytime after 2 p.m., with the family present from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.
James R. Henry
James Robert Henry, 58, of Dinuba, Calif., passed away at his home on Friday, March 1, 2002, after a four-year battle with cancer. A memorial service was held Saturday, March 9, in Dopkins Chapel at Dinuba.
Born Sept. 1, 1943, in Dennison, O., he was the son of the late Bill Henry and Mary Jane Henry. A 1961 graduate of Dennison High School, he served in the First Cavalry of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was the past president and board member of the National Carpet and Fabricare Institute. He was also an active member of the International Institute of Cleaning, Restoration and Certification. He owned his own consulting firm, J. Henry and Co.
Mr. Henry also volunteered many hours as Dinuba High School basketball coach from 1995 to 2000. He was a past member of the Dinuba Parks and Community Services Commission.
Surviving Mr. Henry are his wife, Judy, and his son, Jimmy, both of Dinuba; his daughter, Numeda Lowe of Greensboro, N.C.; John Harland of Jackson, Miss.; and Barbara Milhorn of Bloomington, Ind. He also is survived by his brother, Ed Henry, and a sister, Shelly Miller, both of Uhrichsville; and five grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances may be sent to the Hospice of Tulare County, 900 W. Oak St., Visalia Calif., 93291.
Louis E. Aldergate
Louis E. Aldergate, 77, of 6304 S. Water St. Ext., Uhrichsville, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, in Twin City Hospital at Dennison following a battle with cancer.
He was born June 2, 1924, in Dennison, O., a son of the late Joseph and W. Irene Bertolini Aldergate.
He was married at Dennison on Oct. 19, 1953, to Doris I. McBeth Aldergate, who survives.
He also is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Tim (Kim) Henry and Karen Morrow, both of Tappan Lake; a brother, Jack J. (Bev) Aldergate of New Philadelphia; two sisters, Mrs. William E. (Clara Mae) Hinig of New Philadelphia, and Mrs. Richard (Donna) Heston of Tuscarawas; grandchildren Doug (Becky) Henry and Louis (Brownie) Vosick; two great-grandchildren, A.J. Henry and Gauge Weese; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John D. Aldergate, and a granddaughter, Sabrina Vosick.
He was a life resident of the area, and graduated from Dennison High in 1942. He served his country as a Pfc. in the Army and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks, AIC, and had 56 years with the Dennison F.O.E.
Louis was a supervisor for 35 years at Warner & Swasey. He also worked at Republic Steel.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, 2002, at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church at Dennison with Fr. Martin J. Ralko officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Uhrichsville.
Calling hours are Sunday, March 17, 2002, from 5 to 8 in R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Christian Wake services will be conducted at 7:30.
Memorials may be made in Louis’ name to Hospice of Tuscarawas County or Immaculate Conception Church’s Memorial Book Fund.
John D. Hadorn
John D. “Hans” Hadorn, age 95, a resident of Williston, Fla., for 30 years, died Thursday morning, March 14, 2002, in the Sunnyslope Nursing Home at Bowerston.
He was born Aug. 20, 1906, in Forst, Switzerland, and was the son of the late Christian and Elise Hadorn. John arrived in this country at Ellis Island in 1921. He eventually settled in Sherrodsville, where he operated a farm for most of his life before retiring in Florida in 1971. But prior to becoming a farmer, John worked in Canton, O., as a chauffeur for Mr. H.W. Hoover, founder of the Hoover Co.
He was a member of the Archer Nazarene Church in Florida, and he was a charter member of the Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret H. Trite Hadorn, who died in October of 1968, and his second wife, Josephine Rambaud Hadorn, who died in May of 1991. In addition, he was preceded in death by a son, Delbert J. Hadorn, who died in June of 1969, and four brothers and nine sisters.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James (Judy) Haney of Dennison, O.; a sister, Mrs. Lilly Baich of Canal Fulton, O.; grandchildren, Mrs. Jeff (DeAnn) DiGenova of Hilton Head, S.C., Mrs. Chris (Kathy) Bower of Bowerston, Carson (Stacey) Haney of Tappan Lake and Jon Haney of Dennison; four stepchildren, George, Roger, Peggy and Susie, all of the Canton area; a special friend, Jean Crow of Williston, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, in the Roxford United Methodist Church near Dennison with Rev. Henry Mooney and Pastor Fred Strawser officiating. Interment will be in the New Cumberland Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday from 10 until time of services in the church. A reception will be held in the church social hall following the committal service. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Carroll County Hospice, 1040 Trump Rd. NW, Suite F, Carrollton, O. 44615. The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville is handling arrangements.
