Amy Lynn Johnson, age 15, of Canton, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2002, as a result of a traffic accident. Born in Canton she attended McKinley High School where she was in the school's bank program. She was a member of Canton Baptist Temple. Preceded in death by her grandparents, Goldie and Christopher; aunt, Mary Evelyn Blile. She is survived by her mother, Mary Anne Hill; stepfather, James Mike Sherrod; brother, James Hoss Johnson, all of the home; grandmother, Gertrude Johnson of Minerva; grandparents, James and Donna Sherrod of Canton, Russell and Teresa Johnson of Louisville; uncle and aunt, James and Betty Johnson of Minerva; aunt, Monica Johnson; cousin, Jennifer of Louisville. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Canton Baptist Temple with Rev. Tom Hogsed officiating. Burial in Union Cemetery in Minerva. Friends may call Sunday 6-9 p.m. in the Earl B. Daun Kendig
Daun Kendig, died at her home in St. Cloud, MN on Wednesday, April 3. She is survived by her five-year-old daughter, Bessana Olivia Kendig, and their beloved dog, Rory; her parents, Russ and Gladys Kendig of Canton, OH; sisters and their spouses, Diane Kendig and Paul Beauvais of Lynn, MA and Beth and Jim McBride of Denver, CO; her brother and family, Rusty and Cheryl Kendig and daughters (Daun's nieces) Lauren and Claire, of Canton, OH; and many other loving and caring friends nationwide. Daun was born in Canton, OH and graduated from Perry High School in 1970. She obtained a B.S. from Ohio University, Athens in 1974 and an MA (1976) and PhD (1987) from the University of Illinois. She moved to St. Cloud in 1982 as a member of the Department of Communications Studies at St. Cloud State University, where she directed PLAyers, a student performance group. AT SCSU she won the Outstanding Young Teacher Award and an achievement award for outstanding contributions to the university. She was a member of the National Communication Association (Performance Studies Division), a supporter of the Humane Society, a member of First United Methodist Church in St. Cloud, and a sponsor in the Godchild Project between St. Paul and Guatemala. Her publications included writing on the work of Eudora Welty and on student performance as a means of service. The open house and celebration of life which Daun requested will take place at the Minnesota home at a later date. Meanwhile, a memorial gathering will be held at First United Methodist Church in St. Cloud on Saturday (today) April 6, 2002 at 1 p.m., and in Canton on Thursday, April 11, at 3 pm at AA Executive Event Center, 5211 West Tusc. in Perry Twp. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church in St. Cloud or the National Marrow Donor Program (https://www.marrow.org). Donations to a scholarship fund for her daughter's education can be sent to Bessana Kendig (Benefit), US Bank, 1015 St. Germaine Street, St. Cloud, MN 56301. The family sends special thanks to the members of First United Methodist Church in St. Cloud, St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Canton, OH, her dean and the Department of Communications Studies at SCSU, parents and staff at Children's Day Montessori, Dr. Nicholas Reuter and staff, the nurses and staff of Fifth Floor South at St. Cloud Hospital, Dr. Linda Burns and staff of the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic and Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, and Daun's neighbors. While we would have asked for a different journey, we could not have asked for better fellow travelers.
Dean R. Schering
Dean R. Schering, age 79, of N. Canton, died Friday night in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. He was a life resident of the Canton area, and retired in 1979 from the Norfolk and Western Railroad after 27 years of service. He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran, and was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma L. Schering; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Phillip Briney, of Canton; five sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and June Schering, Larry and Jill Schering, Scott and Carol Schering, and Jim and Connie Schering, all of Canton, and Jeff and Lori Schering, of N. Canton; three sisters, Jackie Capuano of Chester, SC, and Geraldine Crane and Gloria Hoffman, both of Pompano Beach, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Rita Schering of Canton; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-granchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church with Fr. Ronald Klingler as Celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Glenn R. Hughes
Glenn R. Hughes, age 89, of Canton, died Saturday morning in his residence after an extended illness. Born in Canal Fulton, Mr. Hughes had been a sales manager for various steel foundries. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Massillon, the Jr. Order and American Steel Founders Society. He is survved by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Hughes of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Nancy Hughes of Springfield, OH; two grandsons, David (Gail) Hughes of Columbus, OH and Shawn Hughes of Springfield; Glenn was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Hughes in 2001. Funeral Services will be Tuesday 1 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home, 710 Tuscarawas St. West, with Dr. William R. Harvey officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Harold G. Feldbush
Harold G. Feldbush, age 95 a resident at the Canton Christian Home passed away Friday afternoon at the home following a brief illness. Born in Canton, OH on May 10, 1906 he was a retired Superintendent for the Caxton Press in Canton, retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Church of the Savior United Methodist, the Lions Club and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Feldbush also his parents, George W. and Matilda Feldbush and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert H. and Barbara A. Feldbush of Akron, OH and Dr. Thomas L. and Bonnie Feldbush of Greenville, NC; one sister, Betty Feldbush of Ft. Wayne, IN; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a Gathering to celebrate his life at the Church of the Savior United Methodist on Tuesday April 9, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. George Roberts officiating. The Reed Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Jane E. Davidson
Jane E. Davidson, age 55 of East Sparta, died Saturday morning in the Hospitality House following an extended illness. She was born in Canton, OH on August 17, 1946 daughter of Ray C. and Arline (Holderbaum) Fulmer. She was a life resident of the Canton area and graduated from McKinley High School in 1964 and continued to be an avid sports fan. A member of Howenstine Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray C. Fulmer. Survived by her husband, Ronald Davidson, with whom she would have celebrated her 32nd Anniversary on April 25, 2002; one son, Dan Davidson of the home; grandson, Brandon Davidson of Massillon; mother, Arline Fulmer of Canton; one brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Terry Fulmer of Hartville; father-in-law, Ralph Davidson of North Canton; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Nancy Davidson of Canton; and their children. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Chris Davis officiating. Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. and one hour before the service. Jill Arellanez
Jill (Rinehart) Arellanez, age 51, of San Diego, CA, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002, following a sudden illness. Born May 8, 1950 in Canton, OH to John and Elsie Rinehart. She was a 1968 graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended Kent State University Stark Campus. She worked many years for various title agencies in San Diego. Preceded in death by her father, John J. Rinehart. She is survived by husband, Ben R. Arellanez, whom she married January 31, 1990; two stepdaughters, Char Arellanez and Crystal (James) Houlihan; granddaughter, Taylor Waters, all of San Diego. Also survived by her mother, Elsie Rinehart of Canton; two sisters, Judith Rinehart of Albuquerque, NM and Julie (Dr. Walter) Wozniak of Jackson, NJ; loving cousin, Debbie Henning of Canton; and several nieces, nephew and cousins. You were the light of our lives and will be missed by all of us more than you ever would have imagined - We will love you always. It was her wish to be cremated. A memorial mass will be Friday, April 12, 2002 at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Canton, OH with Fr. Joseph Zamary as celebrant. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Nancy E. Jones, 71, of Marita Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Friday April 5, 2002 at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born on May 20, 1930 in Stark Country to the late, M.P. and Violet (Tinsman) Ellsworth. Mrs. Jones had attended Mulberry Street Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Malcolm Jones; a daughter, Sheryl Jones of Mount Vernon; two grandchildren, Marissa Jones, Kelly Morton, a brother, Edgar (Marian) Ellsworth of Canton and a sister, Gloria Veeck of Columbus. Born April 2, 1915, in New Philadelphia, OH., to the late Walter and Sarah Burkhart. Preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Rossiter. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and W.H. Goodwyn Jr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard E. and Terry Rossiter, David W. and Jane Rossiter; there are seven grandchildren; five great - grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Burkhart; one brother-in-law, Clarence Boltz and two sisters-in-law, Donna Rossiter and Winona Rossiter. Survived by two grandsons, Tomasz (Constance) Mroczkowski of Hudson and Wlodzimierz Wally (Olivia) Mroczkowski of Canton; son-in-law, Marian Mroczkowski of Canton; great-grandsons, Bogdan, Krzysztof, Stefan and Mark Mroczkowski; a sister, Blanche Rostonski of Canton and brother, Wallace Czerwinski of California. Mary H. Noall, age 89, of Jackson Twp., passed away peacefully Thursday, April 4, 2002 surrounded by her family. Mary was born Aug. 1, 1912 and enjoyed her family and friends and traveling with her husband. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She will be sadly missed and always be remembered for her love and kindness in everyone's lives that she touched. Mary was a former member of Westlawn Methodist Church in Akron and was active in many church groups. Preceded in death by her husband, Fred. She leaves her sons, William F. (Nancy) of Silver Spring, MD, Fred (Lisa) of Jackson Twp.; grandchildren, Kenny, Terry, Lisa, Julie, Kevin, Debbie, Andrew; several great-grandchildren.
