Bruce T. Bicksler
Bruce T. Bicksler, age 83, of Wadsworth, OH, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at Bethany Nursing Home in Canton. Mr. Bicksler was born in Wadsworth where he resided all of his life before moving to Brewster four years ago. He served in the European Theater with the U.S. Army during World War II and was an avid sportsman. He was an electrical contractor and past president of Bicksler electric in Wadsworth. Mr. Bicksler is survived by daughters, Sandi (Mrs. Jim) McLain of Brewster and Sherrie Dennis of Wooster; granddaughters, Wendy (Mrs. Bob) Scharon and Marcy McLain; great-granddaughters, Stefanie McLain and Ryan Gaylor; brothers, Elden and Burt, sisters-in-law, Anne and Mildred Bicksler. He was preceded in death by wife, Elvera, parents, Wesley Sr. and Mabel, brother, Wesley Jr., sister-in-law, Juanita Bicksler and son-in-law, Bill Dennis Jr. A Memorial Service for the family will be held Monday at the Hilliard Mullaney Funeral Home, 174 N. Edith Downey Jefferson. A memorial service for Mrs. Jefferson, principal at W.S. Stinson Elementary in the Northwest Local School District, has been scheduled for Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m. in the Stinson Elementary gymnasium. Edward A. Boben
Edward A. Boben, age 82, of Lake Township and formerly of Willowick, passed away Friday April 5, 2002 in St. Thomas Hospital. He was born on October 11, 1919 in Cleveland to the late Joseph and Mary Boben. Edward retired from Conrail Railroad. He is survived by his wife, Angeline with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Mark Goodspeed of Hartville, Carol and Dave Coad of Mayfield Heights, OH; grandsons, Scott and Monica Goodspeed, and Dan Goodspeed all of Hartville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vera and Clarence Hudak of Eastlake, OH, Anna and Edward Provasnick of Brookpark, OH, Rose Boben of OH, Mary Wallings and brother, Albert Boben both of Mentor; sisters-in-law, Edith Kaiser of Wickliffe, OH and Jeanne Lewis of TX. Eugene V. Evans
Eugene V. Evans, age 94, of Canton, died Thursday evening at the Inn of Belden Village following an extended illness. He was born on June 29, 1907, in Dunkirk, KS and had resided in the Canton area most of his life. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Evans was employed in the Quality Control Department of the Timken Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was precede din death by his parents, John and Edith Evans and his brothers, John, Edwin, Walter and Merle Evans; and sister, May Scott. He is survived by his wife, Sara (McCort) Evans, to whom he was married for 62 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Connie Evans of Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Eugene Grubb of Alliance; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3757 Lincoln Way E., Massillon, with Rev. James Zimmerman officiating. Evelyn M. Shandor
Evelyn M. Shandor, age 86, of Canton, OH, passed away Thursday evening in the emergency room at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Brewster, OH on December 14, 1915, she was the daughter of the late John and Edith Fortune. She was a 1933 graduate of Bolivar High School and had been a resident of Canton since 1939. She was a 57 year member of the Church of the Saviour United Methodist, where for 36 ears she taught in the Kindergarten Dept. She was a member of the Stephens Ministry, the Leah Circle and United Methodist Women. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Shandor, who passed away May 18, 1979; three sisters, Edith Willard, Winifred Snyder and Ella Fortune; and two brothers, Joseph and John Fortune. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Sam Abraham of Spring Valley, IL and Patricia and Carl Chappie of Canton; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Vera Shandor of Minerva, OH; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. George Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Ft. Laurens Cemetery. Frostburg, MD, Mr. Sleeman was a customer service representative for Goodyear Tire Co. An avid model railroader, Tom was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Penny Sleeman in 1999. Joseph J. Balazik, age 87, of Louisville, OH, passed away Thursday evening in the residence. Born in Caldwell, OH, the son of the late Andrew and Mary Balazik. A Veteran of The U.S. Army, he served his country during W.W. II. Retired from LTV Steel after 35 years of service. Also preceded in death by two sisters. Memberships include Trinity Lutheran Church, Lathrop Lodge # 676 F. A.M., A.A.S.R. - Valley of Canton. Survived by his wife, Mary Ann Balazik, to whom he was married to for 57 years.; a sister, Millie of Florida; nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Mrs. Nicholas Pastor. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Dr. John M. Mann, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Lillian N. Daff, age 91, of East Canton, died Thursday in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Daughter of the late Sanford A. and Victoria (Kennedy) Tenney. She was an East Canton area resident since 1952. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Elliott Daff in 1991. She is survived by one daughter, Pearl I. Marjorie E. Laine, age 84, of North Canton, died Thursday, April 4, in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church where she was active in many church groups and St. Paul's Christian Family Movement, and was a member of the North Canton YMCA. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Gloria Schreiber of Hartville; stepchildren, Jack and Martha Laine of Wildwood, FL, Marilyn and Joe Bailey of Denton, TX, Glenn and Gari Laine of Worthington, OH and Robert and Rhonda Laine of Belmont, OH; son-in-law, Robert Stayer of Charlotte, NC. Preceded in death by first husband, Hugh F. Schreiber in 1953, second husband, Ty Laine in 1996 and daughter, Cecelia Stayer in 1997. Otto J. Hamlin
Otto J. Hamlin, 79, born August 1, 1922, died April 4, 2002, of a short illness. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. Preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Roth and Evelyn Miller, and brother, Leonard Hamlin. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jennie L. Hamlin of Louisville; son and daughter-in-law, Otto and Betty Hamlin of Louisville; grandchildren, Lorraine Hanlin of Canton and Jason Hamlin of California; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Richard Hamlin of Canton; and sister, Elva Johnson of California. At his request, there will be no services.
Ruby R. Rinehart
Ruby R. Rinehart, age 86, of Magnolia, passed away Thursday afternoon in Aultman Hospital. She was born in Carrollton, a daughter of the late Robert and Georgeanna Amos Rutledge, and had been a resident of the Magnolia area most of her life. She retired in 1980 from the Federal Land Bank in Canton, Magnolia, and Minerva, after over 25 years service, where she was Administrative Assistant. Mrs. Rinehart was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Magnolia, the Amanda Felton Circle and the Altar Guild, both of the church, and had served as church treasurer for many years. She also was a member of the Sandy Valley Woman's Club and the Carrollton County Historical Society. Preceded in death by her husband, J. DeFord Rinehart, on September 21, 1987, and one brother and sister, Richard Rutledge and Kathryn Oyster. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Kent Myers, and her son and daughter-in-law, James and Mariann Rinehart, all of Magnolia; two granddaughters, Rachel Rinehart , of Navarre, and Amy Rinehart Pollock and her husband, Steven, of Canton; several loving nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law. Services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Matthew A. Diehl officiating. Interment in Magnolia Cemetery. Ruye Arline Kurner Vogelgesang
Ruye Arline Kurner Vogelgesang, age 96, passed away April 5, 2002 at her home in Massillon. She was born January 4, 1906 in Mingo Junction, OH., to Elnora Jane and George William Kurner. Following her father's death when she was one year old, she and her mother moved back to Stark County to live with her grandparents, until her mother married Elmer Lewis Boron. She attended Vogelgesang School (now Avondale School), Edgefield School and graduated from McKinley High School in 1925. She married Isaac H. Vogelgesang in 1932. He preceded her in death in 1984. She is survived by sons, Ronald and wife, Jeanette, John (Jack) and wife, Janet, and Dr. George and wife, Jill all from the Stark County area. There are nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roger Boron of Louisville. Ruye was active in many civic and church organizations. She was a founding member of Calvary Chapel in Massillon, Eastern Star #190, White Shrine #17, AARP and the Massillon Woman's Club. In addition to her many varied interests, family ranked uppermost. She visited all 50 of the United States as well as much of Europe, Canada and Mexico. Calling hours will be from 3-5 and 7-9pm Sunday at Atkinson-Feucht-Shaidnagle Funeral Home in Massillon and one hour before the 11 a.m. service at Calvary Chapel, 8151 Stuhldreher Avenue, Jackson Township on Monday. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Burial Park on Everhard Road. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Chapel, Doctor's Hospital Laurel Fund or Community Hospice.

Willie Lee Moore, Jr., age 71, departed this life on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 following a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 5, 1930 in East Canton, OH. Preceded in death by his father, Willie Lee Moore, Sr. Willie leaves to cherish his precious memories, wife of 53 years, Annie R. Moore of the home; six sons, Larry (Lynnice) Moore of Florida, Meredith Moore of Arizona, Perry (Shirley) Moore, Jerome Moore, Willie (Renee) Moore, Leon (Ruthie) Campbell, all of Canton; three daughters, Debra Singleton, Judy Moore, Cora Moore, all of Canton; mother, Sarah Moore-Tharp of California; 25 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Gracie Lewis of California; brother, George (Agnes) Moore of Canton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. James V. McMahan
James Victor McMahan, age 70, of Canton away Friday morning at Altercare of Canton after an extended illness. He was born in Spartanburg, SC and had lived in Canton most of his life. He was a graduate of Akron East High School, class of 1949. He also attended Akron University. He was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., where he was employed for 43 years in the Cast Film Dept. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Goodyear Retirees Golf Assoc. and FOE Aerie #237. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was former manager of Whipple Heights Hot Stove League. He enjoyed golfing, baseball and Deer Hunting. He earn the title of Great White Hunter from his nephews, Greg and Dwight. He was preceded in death by his mother, Essie Mae (Cox) McMahan, in 1994; brother-in-law, Louis DiRuzza, in 1998; sister-in-law, Loretta Corbit, in 2001 Survived by his wife, Carmie (DiRuzza) McMahan, to whom he had been married 46 years; his father, Charles A. McMahan of Canton; two sons and daughter-in-law, Vance McMahan of Canton, Aaron and Suzanne McMahan of Massillon; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer Corbit, Don and Carol DiRuzza, Mary Lou DiRuzza, all of Canton, Rick and Judy DiRuzza of Long Meadow, MA; two grandchildren, Jared and Megan McMahan; a number of nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Thomas Dyer as celebrant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery.
