Alease Toles
Alease Toles age 96 of Massillon passed away Sunday at Meadow Winds Health Care following a long illness. She was born on January 12, 1906 Ringgold, GA to the late William and Lula (Yarbough) Pasley. Alease had lived in the Massillon area since 1923 and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Toles in 1991 and three sisters, Katie Pasley, Ella Mae Pasley and Fannie Williams; foster daughter, Laura Roberts. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Sharon Toles of Wooster; a sister, Georgia Woods of Massillon; 3 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Harkless officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. The family would appreciate memorials to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Massillon. The Brooks Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Anna Mae Rhodes
Anna Mae Rhodes, age 81, of Navarre, passed away Tuesday morning at her residence following a brief illness. She was born on July 15, 1920 in Baltic, OH to the late William and Caroline (Youngen) Baab. Anna Mae graduated from Baltic High School in 1938. She lived most of her life in Navarre where she was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and was the church's organist for 50 years. She was known as the Avon Lady employed with Avon for 53 years and was one of the top sellers in the area. For over 30 years she was the presiding judge with the Board of Elections in Bethlehem Township. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. Rhodes in 1993; son, Richard W. Rhodes in 2000 ; and a granddaughter, Holly Hippert. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Larry Mathias of Winesburg, Robin and Kevin Keith of Navarre; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and LouAnn Rhodes of Dover; daughter-in-law, Carol Rhodes; seven grandchildren, Cathy A. Compan, Rober W. Hippert, Jr., William R. Hippert, Lisa Rhodes, Christine Hanna, Christopher M. Rhodes, Matthew L. Rhodes; five great-grandchildren, Michael Compan III, Joshua Compan, Alex Hippert, Megan Hippert and Tara Hippert; and a special friend, Andy Snyder of Navarre. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Navarre with Pastor Marcia Stalnaker officiating. Interment will be in Union Lawn Cemetery. Byron Terry Huguley, age 47, passed away March 24, 2002, at University Hospital, East, Columbus, OH. Employed by Worthington Foods/Kellogg in Columbus, OH., US Army Veteran. Preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Clifford Howard, Theodore Frank; paternal grandparents, Lucille and Clifford Huguley. Survived by mother, Nellie Huguley; father, Thomas (Jane) Huguley; sons, Rahil, B.T., and their mother, Rhonda Huguley; sisters, Vallerie Spaulding, Carmen Sanders, Sherry Atwood; brothers, Jeff and Steven (Stacey) Johnson; niece, Sakia Spaulding; nephews, Antwione Spaulding, Miguel and Tyler Johnson; great-nice, Ikera; great-nephew, Iman; host of other family and friends. Catherine F. Merrick, age 88, of Canton, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2002 in Aultman Hospital. Born in Sherrodsville, OH, the daughter of the late Harry and Rosanne (Minnick) Gamble. A member of Christ Presbyterian Church and an American Contact Bridge League Life Master Also preceded in death by her husband Earl Merrick in 1999; sisters, Rose Phillips and Dorothy Norris. Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Earl Tim and Patricia Merrick; grandson, Earl Todd Merrick; sisters, Virginia Cheslock and Mary Gartrell both of New Philadelphia, OH; brothers, Earl Gamble of Beach City, OH and Harry Gamble of Brewster, OH. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Schneeberger Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends will be received Friday 7-9 p.m.

Donna J. Foxx, age 44, of Canton, died early Monday in Akron City Hospital following an extended illness. Donna was born in Canton on January 12, 1958 and had been employed by Dutch Girl Cleaner. Survivors include her husband, Gregory; one daughter, Alax both of the home; two stepsons, Jim and Kenny Foxx. There are her mother and step father, Lila and Robert Zickafoose, her father and stepmother, Robert and Beverly Peterson all of Canton, one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Tammy Peterson of Texas, two step grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Francis Hillebrecht
Francis L. Frank Hillebrecht, age 78, of Perry Twp., died peacefully at his home Tuesday evening following a lengthy illness. He was born on November 20, 1923 in Wheeling, WV and was the son of the late William F. and Helen Hillebrecht, Sr. He was an area resident since 1954. He retired from the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, Massillon office where he was a personnel/employer liaison. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy for three years in the South Pacific. His memberships included Trinity United Methodist Church in Perry Hts., the Wadsworth Post of the V.F.W. He was a charter member of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department Station #3 and had over 2000 hours as a volunteer at Massillon Community Hospital. Frank is survived by his wife of 54 years, Iola Hillebrecht; his daughter, Shirley Lominac of Anchorage, AK; his son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Sue Hillebrecht of Orrville; grandchildren, Christopher and Holly Hillebrecht of Orrville; and brother and sister-in-law, William F. and Dorothy Hillebrecht, Jr. of Wadsworth, OH. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Shedlock and Rev. James Mock officiating. George W. Hayes, age 49, of Canton, passed away in his residence. He was born in Canton, a son of the late Jack and Rilla Beck Hayes, and was a life resident. George was a 1970 graduate of Glenwood High School and was a 26 year employee of Kaufmann's Dept. Store, where he was in the Receiving Det. Survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Orvie Fischer, and Peggy and Scott Oancea, all of Marietta; and two nephews, Will and Ben Fischer. Services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home with Rev. Charles A. Martindell, of Christ United Methodist Church in Marietta, officiating. Juanita U. Young
Juanita U. Nina Young, age 69, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 23, 2002, after an extended illness. Born on January 11, 1933, in Canton, Ohio, Juanita was one of 10 children born to the union of Viola and Isaiah Whitehurst. Juanita grew up in Canton, OH., and was a graduate of McKinley High School. Juanita married Arthur Lee Young of Alliance, OH., on August 23, 1957, and resided in Alliance until 1986. To this union two children were born: Bruce and Jeffrey Young. A nursing assistant for over 20 years, Juanita was a former employee of Alliance Community Hospital and Roselawn Nursing Home. She was a retired employee of the McKinley Life Center in Canton, OH. Juanita will be remembered for her love of bowling and her beautiful needlepoint crafts and pictures that adorn the walls of her home. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Viola and Isaiah Whitehurst; loving husband, Arthur Lee Young; sister, Jean Edwards of Las Vegas, NV., and brother, William Whitehurst of Canton, OH. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, sons, Bruce Young of Akron, OH and Jeffrey Young of Canton, OH; sisters, Inez Capitol of Farrell, PA., Lois Whitehurst and Mary (Robert) Fisher all of Canton, OH; brothers, Robert (Rebecca) Whitehurst, David (Carol) Whitehurst, Paul (Virgie) Whitehurst and Alvin (June) Whitehurst all of Canton, OH; two grandchildren, Rasheem (Jessica) Crockett of Cartersville, GA., and Tanisha Osborne of Canton; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, and friends. Laura M. Christian, age 83 passed away March 24, 2002. Born September 26, 1918 in New Straitsville, OH. She worked for Goodwill Industries for 17 years. Preceded in death by her husband, Ferdinand R. Jr. Survived by son, Kenneth (Rosemary) Wolf of Canton; daughters, Carol (Arthur) Overcasher of Canton; Linda Hill of Akron; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Hammond of AZ; Leo Hammond of Hanoverton; Gene Hammond of Youngstown; sister, Josephine Roher of Akron. Lois J. Fouts (former Mrs. Stan Edwards), age 73, of Cordova, TN, died on March 26, 2002. Born on February 10, 1929 in Akron, OH, she was a daughter of Homer and Edna Fouts. She lived in the Massillon area before moving to Tennessee. She is survived by a son, Mark F. Edwards and a grandson, Blake Edwards of Cordova, TN; and cousins, Evelyn and Cynthia Terry of Lakeland, FL. Services will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. Donard M. Engle officiating. An Eastern Star service will be held 12:20 p.m. Friends may call one hour before services. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Marilyn S. Lynn
Marilyn S. Lynn, age 60, of Canton, died Wednesday noon in her home, surrounded by her family, following an illness of one year. She was born in Marietta, OH and had resided in the Canton area most of her life. She was employed for 30 years by Fisher Foods, retiring in Sept. 2001. Marilyn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Massillon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Dorothy Covell and her brother, Robert Covell. She is survived by her husband, Albert T. Lynn, to whom she was married on April 28, 2001; her sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Kathy Wheeler of Phoenix, AZ, Greg and Sue Wheeler of Canton; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Tim Kamp of Canton, Cheryl and Gene Libby of Las Vegas, NV; step-sons and their wives, Michael and Sue Wheeler and Rodney and Brenda Wheeler of Marietta, Todd Lynn of Canton; step-daughters and husband, Sherida and Robert Atkinson of Marietta and Dana Lynn of Canton; 17 grandchildren; her sister, Helen Barett of Kent, OH; one niece and four nephews.

Naomi F. Burleson, age 86, of Canton, died Tuesday evening McKinley Health Care Center following an extended illness. Born December 15, 1915 in Fayette County, WV, to the late Floyd and Gertude Skaggs. Preceded in death by her husband, William T. Burleson; and one sister, Mabel Nicely. Survivors include one sister, Ruby Eastman of Berryville, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Paul S. Remenaric
Paul S. Remenaric, age 76, of Navarre, died Wednesday morning at Altercare of Navarre following a one year illness. Born in Stark County, he was a retired bricklayer with the former Republic Steel. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. He was a member of St. James Church at Crossroads, the Navarre VFW Post 5047, Navarre Moose, the United Steel Workers of America, Local #6. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maria Remenaric; brothers, Pete, Joe, Jack, John, Raymond and Tony Remenaric. Survived by daughter, Mrs. James (Jill) Royer of Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Hank Remenaric-Dryden of Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Cindy Remenaric of Navarre; grandsons, Chad and Brent Remenaric, and Brandon Rouse; sisters, Catherine Kamph of Justus, OH, Anne Fowler of Beach City, OH, Mary Taylor of Florida, Mid Fry of Findlay, OH. Phebe Alice Hindall
Phebe Alice (Sutcliffe) Hindall, died at the Altercare of Alliance Nursing Home in Alliance on March 26, 2002, at the age of 85. She was born in Sebring, December 24, 1916, to George and Grace (Beggs) Sutcliffe. Mrs. Hindall was a Sebring resident for most of the first 52 years of her life and a Marlboro resident for most of the remaining 33 years. She was a 1934 graduate of Sebring McKinley High School. She married George Franklin Hindall, Sr., on December 28, 1935, in New Cumberland, WV. They had over 65 years together before he died, December 26, 2000. Mrs. Hindall was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Mrs. Jane Bennett of Shreve and Mrs. Jean Johnson of Wooster; a son, George Franklin, Jr. of Dayton; and a daughter, Marguerite Reardon of Massillon. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Marguerite Lawrence of South Bend, Indiana; two sons, Lynn of Marlboro and Merritt Alvin of Dallas, Texas; a niece, Mrs. Mary Virden of South Bend, Indiana; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 30th., at 2 p.m. at the Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home in Sebring. Friends may call one hour before the services. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Sebring. Dr. James Doty will officiate the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Charles Evans, Jr.
The journey on earth has ended for Charles 'Puff Stuff' W. Evans, Jr., born August 1, 1940, who moved on to a better place on Saturday morning, March 23, 2002, after an extended illness. While on earth he was a member of Tried Stone Baptist Church, which was founded by his grandfather, the late, Rev. James Williams, and mother, Ocealean Evans. Charles served in the military for two years, worked at Timken Steel Mill, Protect Inc., many local social clubs and sang with the Parakeet under the management of James (Jimmy) Jenkins. His parents, Charles W. Sr. and Ocealean Evans; son, Howard Dwight Evans; Aunt Elaine Kelly; uncles, Oceanus and Opral Williams; and a special cousin, Ruby Minor preceded him in death. He shared his life for 29 years with wife, Cheryl Evans of the home. He leaves 16 children: Julanda (Thomas) Stevenson of Dansville, VA., Nina Greene of Sharon-Ferrell, PA., Arthur Evans of Leavittsburg, OH., Gregory Evans, Jeffery Evans of Massillon, OH., Jacqueline (Arch) Bell, Tracey (Elva) Watkins, Michael Gordon, Dene (Craig) Humphries, Dwan (Deametrious) Gordon-St. John, Montez Gormetz, Charles (TC) W. Evans III, De'Meese Evans, Moses Evans, Gardner (Tony) Evans, India Evans; father and mother-in-law, Moses and Helen Wimbley; one god son, John (J.T.) Brown all of Canton; 28 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one uncle, Sam Kelly of Akron, OH; one aunt, Mary Tanner of Canton; four dear and loving cousins: David Williams of Massillon, Deborah Williams of Akron, Sandra Clayton of California, Sharon (Bob) Smith of Canton. He also leaves to cherish his memory special cousin, Rebecca Williams; loving and caring friends, Eugene Evans, Howard Parker, Dwight and Herman Brown; many other relatives and friends.
