Aniela Stead
Aniela Nellie Stead, age 77, of Canton, OH, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 6, 2002 in Aultman Hospital following a three month illness. Born in Lublin, Poland, March 21, 1924, she lived most of her life in the Canton area moving here in 1945 from Germany. She as a retired employee of Timken Mercy Hospital, retiring after 20 years of service and was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple. Mrs. Stead was preceded in death by her son, Michael Stead and her special friend, Carl Meek. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth S. and Diana C. Stead of Canton, OH, Victor E. and Paula K. Stead of Belmont, NC; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Dr. Harold Henniger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens. Catherine I. Stoetzer
Catherine I. Stoetzer, age 81, of Canton, died Wednesday morning in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Daughter of the late Clem and Catherine (Welsch) Early. She was a Canton area resident for the past 17 years prior to which she had resided in California for 24 years. Member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a former member of the Buckeye Bacon Burners Camping Club. She is also preceded in death by one son, Ralph Kuhns, Jr., four brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her husband, Glenn J. Stoetzer, to whom she was married 52 years; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Carl Pellan of Grand Junction, CO; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack Early of Riverside, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Gerald Sommer, M.S.C. as celebrant. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Dallas G. Alberts, age 67, of Berlin, OH, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002 following a brief illness. Funeral services will be Saturday 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Berlin with Rev's. Eleanor A. Nemeikis
Eleanor A. Nemeikis, age 79, of Canton, died Monday morning in Doctor's Hospital following an extended illness. Born in August 25, 1922 in Canton to the late Charles and Ruby Singer. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Nemeikis of May 10, 1983. Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Joanne Nemeikis of Akron, Jane and Michael T. George of Grove City, OH; and one son, Joseph A. Nemeikis II of Canton. There are six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Singer of South Carolina; and her special friend, James Archer of Canton also surviving. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Fr. Thomas Dyer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Fanchon E. Black, age 92, formerly of the Canton area, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2002 in Houston, TX. Preceded in death by her husband, Glen, in 1995. Survived by daughters, Jan Taggart of Houston, TX, Jill McNeill of Arlington, TX; son, Jeffry Black of Canton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Friday. Gladys M. Sanko
Gladys M. Sanko, age 79, of Alliance, died at 12:40 a.m. Monday at Altercare of Alliance following a long illness. Mrs. Sanko was born Jan. 1, 1923, in Greentown, OH, to Milo M. and Mary (Sphuler) Rininger. She was a housewife. Surviving are a daughter, Thelma Eileen Thacker Swank of Alliance; one son, Lawrence Elley Thacker of Florida; one sister, Hazel Essic of Dover, OH; nine grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, John P. Sanko in 1984; three brothers; one sister. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Dean's Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph Peters officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens, Canton. Irene Valantasis
Irene Valantasis, age 85, of Massillon, passed away early Wednesday morning in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. Irene was born in Monessen, PA, and had lived in the Canton and Massillon areas most of her life. She was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church. Senior Citizens of the Church, Chios Society and the Markella Society. She was the daughter of the late Angelo and Anna (Tsapis) Kiminas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Louis on Jan. 10, 2001; one brother, Michael Kiminas; one sister, Mary Coutris; and one granddaughter, Irene Valantasis of Massillon. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Valantasis of Massillon and Lillian; Richard and Janet Valantasis of Denver, CO; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Drossos Tsarnas of Campbell, OH; one brother, Stanley Kiminas of Cleveland, OH; five grandchildren, Louis and John Valantasis and Tommy, Michael and Sevasti Tsarnas. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Pastrikos officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. He was an Optician and of Protestant faith. Survivors include her daughter, Jodi Seemann of Louisville, OH; son, John Beymer of Illinois; brother, Willis Bierly of St. Cloud, FL; and six grandchildren.

Joseph R. Kovach
Joseph R. Yogi Kovach, age 24, of Carrollton, OH, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002 in Aultman Hospital, Canton, OH, due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on March 4, 2002. He was born on November 9, 1977, in Canton, OH. He was the son of Joe F. and Lila (Engle) Kovach of Carrollton, OH. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carrollton and the Wild Turkey Federation. He loved football and wrestling and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a very big Perry High School sports fan, particularly in his brothers wrestling at Perry HS. Yogi loved life and people and he was one who never met a stranger. He was employed with Micro WaveTransmissions System Inc. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1996 where he played football and hot stove baseball. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Travis of the home; two grandmothers, Lois Kovach of Carrollton and Opal Engle of Kensington, OH; one aunt, Janie (Milt) Donahue of Kensington. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Joe Kovach and Robert Engle. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Allmon-Dugger Hively Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. Michael Moon, age 45, of Canton, passed away March 3, 2002 in Regional Medical Center in Elyria. He lived the Canton area most of his life and was a member of the Church of Annointment. Preceded in death by his parents, Millard, Sr. and Mildred Moon; a sister, Susanne. He is survived by his wife, Donna; stepson, Randy Lowther of Canton; two brothers, Calvin of Canton and Millard, Jr. of New Mexico; sister, Candice Leeper of Canton; many nieces and nephews. Robert R. Myers
Robert R. (Bob) Myers, age 87, previously of Canton, OH, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2002. Bob owned and operated the Hamburg Inn, Bob's Diners, Charlie Brown's restaurants, as well as his catering business. He was active in Ex-Newsboys, Shriners, Rotary and Nazir Grotto. After he retired in 1980, he assisted campaigning with ex-sheriff, Babe Stern and deceased sheriff, Umpleby. He moved with his family to Las Vegas in 1998. Bob was a loyal husband and father, he played an active father-like role in the lives of his two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Millie, who passed away in 1999. She worked beside him in the business. Bob is survived by his daughter, Sally and her husband, Ed Laing; granddaughter, Megan Schoeneman and Mick; grandson, Michael Schoeneman and Callie, all of Las Vegas; sister, Gertrude and Pat Terrigan of Canton; brother, William and Gladys Myers of Arizona. Sally L. Henschen, age 44, of Jackson Twp, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at University Hospitals of Cleveland, following an extended illness. She was born in Ft. Wayne, IN, where she graduated from Snider High School in 1975. She received her masters degree in education from Indiana University where she was a member of the swim team and Kappa Alpha Theta. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ft. Wayne, and was a swim coach for Ft. Wayne Aquatics and other area swim clubs in Ft. Wayne. She taught PE and skills for adolescents for 13 yrs. at Ft. Wayne Community School. She lived in Canton for the past eight years and worked as a leasing consultant for Westgate Management for 3 yrs. Memberships include Jackson Roundball Patron, UCLA Swimming - Bruin Sharks, and coached Team Viking in Cleveland. She is survived by her husband, Terry Henschen of Jackson Twp., parents David and Carol (Hughes) Blake of Ft. Wayne, IN, daughter, Julie Madden and son, Blake Madden both of the home, a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Thomas R. and Christy Blake of Ft. Wayne, IN, sister and brother in law, Nancy L. William E. Fouts
William E. Bill Fouts, age 70, of Canton, died Wednesday morning in Mercy Medical Center, following a sudden illness. Born May 24, 1931 in Massillon, son of the late William and Frances Fouts. Bill was a member of Moose Lodge # 233 for 37 years and also worked there for 12 years. After working 18 years at Tim's Tavern he retired in 1994. He attended Westbrook Park United Methodist Church. Also preceded in death by two sisters. Survived by his wife, Dolores Fouts, to whom he was married 47 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Carol, Bob and Deb; three grandchildren, Lisa, Shay and Danny; two great grandchildren, Hannah and Ciera; two sisters, Patty Iams and Marjorie Riggle; many nieces and nephews.
