Arnold E. Johnson
Arnold E. Johnson, age 62, of Hospice House, Palmetto. He was born in Grafton, WV. He was a retired welder/fabricator. Survivors include wife, Carolene Johnson; daughters, Kimberly Linicome of Malvern, OH, Cheryl Salapack of Seminole, FL; one son, Elliott Johnson of Ft. Myers, FL; one sister, Karen LaPenna of Parkton, MD; five grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be held Friday, March 1st from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Ellenton Funeral Home, 3411 U.S. Hwy 301, Ellenton. Funeral service will be held Friday, March 1st at 7:30 p.m. at the Ellenton Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Byram officiating. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34239.

Catherine E. Morris
Catherine E. Morris, 81, of Malvern, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002, in Great Trail Nursing Center following a short illness. Born in Malvern, October 5, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Rebecca (Pearl) Birney. She was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church. She was an elementary school teacher for Brown Local Schools for 20 years. She received the Martha Holden Jennings Award for teaching excellence and was the advisor of the National Honor Society. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Frank Morris; daughter and son-in-law, Carol J. and Jerry Morris of Washington Crossing, PA; son, David L. Morris of Minerva; grandchildren, Jeffrey Morris of Yardly, PA., Jonathan and Stacey Morris of New Jersey; sisters, Charity Stamm of Minerva, Sarah Hatch of Hubbard; brothers, James Birney of Minerva and John Birney of Malvern. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Eleanor Venables. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2002, at the Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home, Malvern, with Rev. A. Wallace Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Concetta F. Ceccardi
Concetta F. Connie Ceccardi. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Fete Celebrant. Entombment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Calling hours in the Reed Funeral Home Thursday (tonight) 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions in Mrs. Ceccardi's name to Little Flower Catholic Church or to the Salvation Army.

Eddie G. Solomon
Eddie G. (Pete) Solomon, age 60, departed this life Tuesday February 26, 2002 following an extended illness. He was born to the late George and Eddie Mae (Scott) Solomon in Plain, GA on August 17, 1941. He moved to Canton, OH., in 1957 where he attended Canton City Schools. He met and married Bertha Clark. He retired from Hercules Engines in 1992. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a twin brother, Eddie James Solomon He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his beloved wife of 29 years who lovingly cared for him throughout his illness, Bertha Solomon of the home; two sons, Edward and Lorenzo Solomon both of Canton; four daughters, Cheryl Burns of Atlanta, GA., Reba (Marion) Perrin of Alaska, Susan and Reese Solomon both of Canton; one step-son, Willie Clark of Canton; two brothers, Ernest (June) Solomon and Joe (Debra) Solomon; two sisters, Katie Tyson and Joyce Stokes all of Canton; 23 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Services are Saturday March 2, 2002 at Apostolic Faith Assembly, 1823 7th St NE, Canton. Calling hours are 11-12 Noon. Funeral at 12 Noon. Eulogy by Rev. Wendell West (Cousin). Interment West Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements caringly handled by Jones Funeral Service. Friends are being received at the residence 1617 Spring Ave NE, Canton.

Gladys Diltz
Gladys Diltz, age 84, of Minerva died 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2002 in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. She was born February 3, 1918 in Belmont County to Chester and Gertrude (Cash) VanFossen. She worked for Regal Metal and was a member of Bayard United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Gene (JoAnn) Clapper of Minerva; a sister, Ethel Gobli of East Canton. She is preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Niuman and a brother, Kenneth VanFossen. Private family services will be held at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. James Huston officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday 1-2 p.m. in the funeral home.

Hazel D. Nist
Hazel D. Nist, age 89, of Canton, died Wednesday morning in the Canton Christian Home following an extended illness. Daughter of the late Arthur and Sophronia (Dilliard) Douglas, she was a Canton area resident for the past 45 years prior to which she had resided in Wooster. She was formerly employed by Wooster Community Hospital as a Practical Nurse and Canton Awning for ten years. Member of Moreland Christian Church. She is also preceded in death by her husband, William Nist in 1982; daughter, Lavinnia Guthrie in 1951; two sisters, Irene Scott and Velma Burgett. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Goodwin A. Bud and Laura Lycan of Bridgeman, MI; two grandchildren, Amber Lynn Ludwig of West Virginia, Kelly Lycan of Indiana; two great-grandchildren, Holly and Amy Horst. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton with Gene Carter and Larry Burgett officiating. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Friends may call one hour before services on Saturday (10-11 a.m.).

Helen Martinez
Helen Martinez, age 81, of Canton, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center. Lifetime resident of Canton and member of the Church of the Master. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Elizabeth Grosklos and Irene Soptelean, two brothers, Steve and Frank Segeti. Survived by her husband of 61 years, Julian Martinez; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Glenda Martinez of Georgia, Dean and Darlena Martinez of Canton; four grandchildren, Dena and Larry James, Danny and Heidi Martinez, Tim and Tammy Martinez and Ryan Martinez; six great-grandchildren, Corey and Seth James, Zeke and Kelsie Martinez, Wyatt and Logan Martinez; sister-in-law, Jean Segeti of Canton; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Welch-Sekeres-Lewis Funeral Home. Dr. Marvin Hall will officiate. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jeanne E. Fisher
Jeanne E. Fisher, 77 of Beach City passed away, 4:45 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center, Canton following a brief illness. She was born at Canton, the daughter of the late Carl and Dora Underhill Lash and had been a Beach City resident for 70 years. She retired from the Ohio State Department of Welfare at Canton in 1988 and had been a volunteer at Doctors Hospital, Massillon. She was a member on the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Lions Club and Precinct Judge all of Beach City, Eastern Star #540, Strasburg, Delta Theta Tau of Massillon. She was preceded by her husband, Robert D. Fisher, August 25, 1976. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Robin and Karyn Fisher of Warrington, PA; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennie and Tim Trovato, Manhattan Beach, CA; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be held, Friday, March 1, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in Lantzer Funeral Home, Beach City, with Rev. Jeff Coggins officiating. Interment will be made in South Lawn Cemetery, Beach City. Friends may call, Thursday, February 28, 2002 from 5-8 p.m. A Delta Theta Tau service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and Eastern Star service will be held at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

John Michael Wills
Dr. John Michael Wills, age 63, of Newark, OH, passed away February 26, 2002 in Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born April 11, 1938 in Canton, OH, to his parents, George H. and Fredia M. (Gotschall) Wills. He was a retired physician. Served in Vietnam as a medical Army Captain. Survived by wife, Margaret E. (Simko) Wills; son, Jeffrey (Cory) Wills of Columbus, OH; daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Wilgus of Columbus, OH; brothers, George T. Wills of Orlando, FL and James D. Wills of Canton, OH; and granddaughter, McKenzie. Private family memorial will be held. Contributions to Hospice of Central Ohio, 1984 Coffman Rd., Newark, OH 43055-1348.

Laura L. (Davis) Stevenson
Laura L. (Davis) Stevenson. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2002 in the Karlo-Feucht Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd. NW, Canton with the Rev. Eloy Pacheco officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 520 S. Marion Heffelbower
Marion E. Heff Heffelbower, age 88, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002 at Hanover House in Massillon, OH after a brief illness. He was born on Nov. 16, 1913 in Louisville to his parent the late Charles and Camilla (Martlet) Heffelbower. He was a long time resident of Canton. A member and deacon of Perry Christian Church. Retired from Superior Dairy in 1976. He was an avid gardener and handyman. Preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy K. (Moorehead); one brother, Bernard; two sisters, Rosemary and Ardelle, Survived by his wife, Luella (Inglehart-Talafous); one daughter, Mary L. Heffelbower and her special friend, Mat Meuller of Lancaster, OH; six stepchildren; various nieces and nephews; ten step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren. Per his request his body was given to Case Western Reserve University College of Medicine. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, March 2, 2002 at 1 p.m. in Perry Christian Church with Pastor Douglas H. Simpson officiating.

Michelle R. Stover
Michelle R. Stover, age 35, of Waynesburg, passed away Tuesday in Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband, Ellwood E. Stover of the home. Funeral services and burial will be in Merced, CA. The Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, Merced, CA is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred F. Whitaker
Mildred Florence Whitaker, passed away at her home in Bradenton, FL, at the age of 81 on Tuesday, Feb. 26, following an extended illness. She was a former resident of Canton and a 1938 graduate of McKinley High School. Preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Thomas Whitaker, Don S. Price and two brothers. Survived by her family in Canton are son, Donald Price; daughter, Linda Whitaker and son-in-law, Jack Whitaker; stepson, Larry Whitaker and wife, Nancy; stepson, Rod Whitaker and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Keith and Lisa Whitaker, Skip and Kim Blend, Craig Whitaker, Ty and Rayelle Price, Brian Price, Chad Price, Kelly and Joe Ross, Bret and Sarah Whitaker. She had eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12 Noon in the Don Williams Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Scherpenisse officiating. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

Pauline Stoehr
Pauline Stoehr. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond L. Tucker officiating. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Friday from 2-3 p.m. At the request of the family, her body will be cremated following the services.

Sr. Eleanor Kirby
Sister Eleanor Kirby, H.M. the former Laverne Kirby died Wednesday February 27, 2002 at Villa Maria Community Center. Sr. Eleanor entered the Humility of Mary in 1929. Her active ministry of 58 years was spent as a teacher, librarian and pastoral minister in the Cleveland, Youngstown and Pittsburgh Dioceses, including Central Catholic High School and St. Joseph Care Center and Louisville. Survived by the Sisters of the Humility of Mary Congregation; brothers William J. Kirby and FJ (Jack) Kirby; sister, Rosemary Kopp; and sister-in-law, Mary Grace Kirby. Calling hours 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday February 28, 2002 with wake service at 7:15 p.m. Calling hours 1-2 p.m. Friday March 1, 2002 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 3 p.m. at Villa Maria Chapel. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Sisters of the Humility of Mary Villa Maria, PA., 16155.

William F. Smith
William F. Smith, age 80, of Delaware, OH, and former Perry Heights resident, died Tuesday, February 26, 2002. Born March 14, 1921 in Erie, PA to the late Ralph C. and Eda V. (Walter) Smith. Bill moved to Delaware in 1994 from Perry Heights. He owned and operated the former William F. Smith Insurance Agency in Massillon. Member of Delaware Christian Church; served as Deacon and Treasurer of the Perry Christian Church; was also a member of the Perry Twp. Lions Club for almost 50 years; enjoyed fishing, playing bridge, and collecting stamps.
Preceded in death by his wife of forty seven years, Julia W. (Cannon) Smith; brothers, Robert Donald Smith. Survived by daughters, Virginia (Harold) Watters of Raymond, Shirley (Terry) Wuske of Cincinnati; four grandchildren, Jessa, Molly, Brandon, Jonathan; niece, Doris Roberts and nephew, Ralph Smith. Friends may call Friday 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Devore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., (SR 36) Delaware and in Canton, 10-11 a.m. prior to the funeral services Saturday at 11 a.m. in Perry Christian Church, 109 Perry Road, Canton, OH. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Christian Church or American Cancer Society.
