Ann Cugliari, of Canton, died Tuesday morning in Aultman Hospital. Born in Canton, Ann had been a cashier with the News Depot. A member of St. Peter's Catholic Church; she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Fay and two brothers: John and Dominick Cugliari. Survivors include a sister: Mrs. Connie Susana of Huron, OH; brother, Sam Cugliari of N. Canton; numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Oser as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Blake J. Shanklin
Blake J. Shanklin, age 88, of Massillon, died Monday, February 25, 2002, at Country Lawn Nursing Home, Navarre.
He was born December 12, 1913, in West Lebanon, Ohio. He had worked as a General Foreman in the Open Hearth at LTV Steel. He was a member of St. Barbara Church Parish, Navarre VFW, and Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 66 yrs, Lucille (Simon) Shanklin of Massillon, daughter and son in law, Sandra and John Cecil of Massillon, daughter and son in law, Debra and Todd Leonard of Massillon, son and daughter in law, Larry and Betty Shanklin of Massillon, brother, Floyd Shanklin of Mt. Eaton, three sisters, Wanda Pandria of Massillon, Wava Lintner of Navarre, and Vera Shilling of Dalton, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Kreith (Kisner) Shanklin, son, Ronald Shanklin (died 1961) and four brothers. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. at Heitger Funeral Service - Massillon Chapel, 639 First St. N.E., Massillon, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Barbara Church Parish at 11 A.M. with Rev. Thomas Cebula officiating. Burial will be in St. Barbara Cemetery, Massillon.
Cecil Kerr
Cecil Kerr, age 63, a resident of Altercare of Navarre, passed away February 25, 2002, in Massillon Community Hospital. Born in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Luther and Daisy Kerr and lived in the Canton area for 40 years. He served in the Air Force and was an independent truck driver. Preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; and a sister. He is survived by a son, Michael of Massillon; two daughters, Karen Kerr of Canton, Ann Kerr of Massillon; four grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Krause of North Carolina; three brothers, Richard of Virginia, Paul of Galion, Keith of Johnstown; special friend, Hildred McCray. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Earl B. Jack Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Dettweiler officiating. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 6-8 p.m.

Cletus Williams, age 83, of Canton, died Thursday February 21, 2002 in Aultman Hospital. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. February 28, 2002 in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
Concetta F. Ceccardi
Concetta F. Connie Ceccardi, age 86, of Canton died early Sunday morning in Aultman Hospital. Born February 7, 1916 in Aquilla, Italy to the late Gacimo and Condida Arquilla. She was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church, the Catholic Golden Agers, the Altar-Rosary Society, the Ladies of the North Canton Elks, A.A.R.P. and was formerly an active volunteer with the Salvation Army. She was retired form the J.C. Penny Co., in 1979 after 20 years of service. Preceded in death by her husband, Herman R. Ceccardi in 1989, whit who she celebrated 51 years of marriage; three brothers, Oliver, Neno and Nunzio Arquilla; and one half-brother, Freddie Ingagliato. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Herman Jr., and Joan Ceccardi of Hudson, OH., Gary and Claudia Ceccardi of Ft. Meyers, FL; and one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Larry Stallman of North Canton. There are nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; tow sisters, Ida DeCenzo of Clinton, MD., Ruth Bury of Springfield, VA; and several nieces and nephews surviving. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Fete Celebrant. Entombment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Ethel M. Wilson
Ethel M. Wilson, age 82, of Canton, OH passed away Monday afternoon in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Barrs Mills, Ohio on July 9, 1919 she was the daughter of the late, Charles and Emma Pennell. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chester Jones, her second husband, David Wilson and a brother, Hugh Pennell. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton. Survivors include two sons, Charles A. Jones of Orrville, OH, Edward K. Jones of Marshallville, OH and daughter, Dawn Marie Jones of Akron, OH; her sister, Gertrude L. Weinand of Canton, OH. There are seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:15 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Dr. John M. Mann officiating. Burial will be in the Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour before services on Thursday from 12:15-1:15 p.m.

Laura L. (Davis) Stevenson
Laura L. (Davis) Stevenson, 37, of North Canton died Monday in Hospice Care Center in Akron. A member of Faith Community Church, she was a commercial Artist and a very talented and gifted painter in acrylics and watercolors. She also was a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She is survived by her husband of over ten years, James D. of the home; mother and stepfather, Sherry (Gray) and David Pettit of Akron; father and stepmother, George and Liz Davis of Suffield; sisters and brothers-in-law, Deborah and Jeff Roberts, Shelley and Brian Wenzel, all of Akron; stepbrother, David Post of Cleveland; stepsister, Amy Wise of Kent; three loving nephews, Aaron and Aric Roberts, and Davis Wenzel; aunt and uncle, John and Lynn Davis of Akron; mother-in-law, Sharon Stevenson and grandfather-in-law, Leon Ingle both of Georgia; her husband's brother, Tom, and his sisters, Renee, Media and Amanda; aunts and uncles-in-law, Hilda and Neil Carnes, Don Ingle and Lorraine Knight, and lastly, her loving dog, Sinbad. Preceded in death by her grandmother-in-law, Minnie Lee Ingle. A talented person with a loving spirit, Laura was a strong individual and left her mark on everyone's lives she touched as she endured a ten year battle with multiple sclerosis. Lawrence C. Headley
Lawrence C. Headley, age 69, of North Canton, OH, passed away Tuesday morning in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Alliance, OH on November 19, 1932, he was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a former cement finisher and a retired employee of the Carper Valley Golf Course in Winchester, VA. He was a member of the Eleventh Street Church of God and AARP. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Cosgrave and a brother, Raymond Headley. Survivors include his wife, Esther Headley of North Canton; three sons, Larry Headley of Cambridge, OH, William Headley of Orrville, OH and Thomas Headley of Canton; two daughters, Diane Davis of Canton and Sara Weltz of Burns, WY; three brothers, William and Kenneth Headley, both of California and Jerry Headley of Powell, OH; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Shafer officiating. Burial will be in the Beechwood Cemetery in Alliance, OH. Mildred M. Spencer, age 86, of Canton, OH, died February 25, 2002. Beloved wife of the late Donald F.; dear mother of the late Cheryl. Sister of Robert (Ruth) Schiffer and Theresa Rawlings of Michigan; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Raphael in Garden City, MI, Friday, March 1 at 10 a.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Canton, OH, Monday, March 11 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Canton, OH, at 1 p.m. on March 2nd. Pauline Stoehr
Pauline Stoehr, age 76, of Massillon, OH., passed away Monday afternoon, February 25, 2002, in the residence following an extended illness. Born in Perry County, OH., September 8, 1925, to her parents the late John and Mamie (King) Clum, she lived most of her life in the Canton-Massillon area; besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Survivors include her loving husband, Harold E. Stoehr of the home to whom she was married 57 years, July 2001; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and William Smith of Navarre, OH., Beth Paul of Massillon, OH., Deidra ad James Remark of Canton, OH; three grandsons, Gregory Smith, Todd A. Smith, Ryan Paul; one great-grandson, Gabriel Smith; two sisters, Helen Ruffner of Lancaster, OH., Mildred Morrison of Columbus, OH; there are several nieces and nephews also surviving. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond L. Tucker officiating. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Friday from 2-3 p.m. At the request of the family, her body will be cremated following the services.
Rebecca F. Matthews
Rebecca F. Matthews, age 94, of Canton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday morning in the Canton Regency Health Care following an extended illness. Born in Zanesville, Ohio, on October 8, 1907, she had attended Akron University; and was a former school teacher at McKinley High School. She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church and a member of the Canton Audubon Society and the Wilderness Center. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and was a Past President of the PTA at Whipple Heights Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Sidney S. Matthews who passed away August 6, 1993. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Catherine Matthews of Montgomery, AL; and grandson, Brandon Matthews of Athens, OH; there are many nieces and nephews in Ohio and Wales. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour before services on Friday from 10-11 a.m.
Richard Zimmer, Sr.
Richard G. Zimmer, Sr., age 71, of Waynesburg, passed away Thursday afternoon in his residence. He was born in Columbiana, OH, and had been a Waynesburg resident 26 years. He retired in 1992 from National Refactories in Columbiana, after 23 years service, where he was a press operator. Richard was a member of Hope Mennonite Church and was an avid baseball and football fan. He had served with the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard, Jr. and three sisters, Lucille, Ruth and Pauline. Survived by his wife, Patsy A. Zimmer, with whom he celebrated their 49th Wedding Anniversary on Nov. 17, 2001; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randolph Zimmer and David and Pam Zimmer, all of Waynesburg; three grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Stacey, Mindy, and Zachery; one great-grandson, Ricky; one sister, Betty Donally of Leetonia, OH; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Henry and Ella Zimmer of Columbiana, Robert Zimmer of Chester, WV; his mother-in-law, Alice Davis, and his brother-in-law, Lester Davis, both of the home; also several nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held Friday evening at 7 p.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Herbert S. Garnes III officiating. The family will receive friends Friday 6-7 p.m. prior to the service.

Vera Dolly Bender, age 86, residing in The Canton Christian Home, passed away Monday evening after a brief illness. Born in Lisbon,OH, she is the daughter of the late Ralph and Lizzie Nichelson. A graduate of The Canton Actual Business College, she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton and was a member of Canton Chapter # 190 O.E.S. Also preceded in death by her husband, Vancil Bender in 1978, brothers, Bus Nichelson in 1995 and Paul Nichelson in 1950, her son, Jack Bender in 1994. Survived by her son and daughters-in-law, Ted and Lola Bender, Julia Bender all of Canton; Grandsons, Jeff Bender and David (Tara) Korosi; one niece, Joan Dorkoff. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Schneeberger Funeral Home with Dr. John M. Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Victor G. Dragich
Victor G. Dragich, age 83, of Canton, died Tuesday morning in Walnut Hills Nursing Home, Walnut Creek, OH., following a brief illness. Son of the late, George and Mary (Popa) Dragich. He was a Canton area resident since 1951, retiring from LTV Steel in 1983 after 14 years of service. He was formerly employed by Belden Brick for 18 years, member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and was a WWII Army Veteran. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Elsie (Tobbe) Dragich in 1997; and four sisters. Survived by two sisters, Mrs. R. J. (Mary) Carter of Gate City, VI., Mrs. Al (Virginia) Geib of Sugarcreek, OH; numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Benedict Catholic Church with Fr. John Zuzik as celebrant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia, OH. There will be no calling hours. The Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton is in charge of arrangements.
William E. Unkefer
William E. Unkefer, age 64, of Minerva, died Sunday, February 24, 2002, in Alpena General Hospital in Alpena, MI, due to injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born July 15, 1937 in Canton, OH, to Kenneth and Wilma (Kibler) Unkefer. He was the owner of Unkefer Ins. Agency in Minerva for 42 years, member of Minerva First Christian Church where he was in the choir and also a trustee. He was a 1955 graduate of Minerva High School, a US Army Veteran and also a past president of the Minerva Lions Club. He is survived by a long time companion, Barbara Unkefer; two daughters, Susan Unkefer of Lakewood, Mrs. Rick (Sheri) Jarvis of Minerva; and four grandchildren, Brandon, Casie, Taylor and Chelsea Jarvis. He is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Unkefer. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Minerva First Christian Church with Mr. Ralph Norman officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the church. Memorial donations may be given to the church memorial fund.
