A. Neill Vollmer, passed away on Sat. Feb. 23 after a long illness. Born in Manilla, P.I.; graduated from the Univ. of Wash. in Seattle. Earned a Master of Business Admin. at the Harvard Univ. Graduate School of Business in 1950. Served as an officer aboard a destroyer in WW II. Began his business career at Oscar Mayer Co.; was Vice Pres. of John Morrell Co.; Vice Pres. of Production for Sugardale Foods; concluded his career at Fresh Mark (Superior) Meats. Served on various American Meat Institute committees; a past member of Rotary; Pres. of Harvard Business School Club of Milwaukee; past member of Brookside CC; an instructor at Malone College and past member of Malone College Men's Board and member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. And an enthusiastic fisherman. Survived by his wife, Joanne (Jody) Vollmer; four sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Nancy of Punte Gorde, FL, Andrew and Lynne of Bethesda, MD, Thomas and Kathy of Pleasant Ridge, MI, Paul and Jaye of Portland, OR; one brother and five beloved grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, March 1 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of The North Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum with Dr. Carey Sloan officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence from 4-6 p.m.. Anna I. Wyles
Anna I. Wyles, 93, formerly of Canton, died Sunday, February 24, 2002 at the Chapel Hill Community. She was born in Amsterdam, OH., had lived most of her life in the Canton area and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Massillon. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wyles (1988). Survived by her daughter, Dr. Barbara Wyles of Arlington, VA; sons, Dr. Ronald (Regina) Wyles of Virginia Beach, VA., Gordon (Nancy) Wyles of Canal Fulton, OH; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild; brothers, Clyde Evans of East Canton, OH., Edward Evans of Carrollton, OH; numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Massillon, OH. Burial Calvary Cemetery. Anne Marie Snyder
Anne Marie Snyder, age 85, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday morning in St. Joseph Care Center following a brief illness. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Feb. 22, 1917, she was a 1935 graduate of Sebring High School. She was a former employee in the Treasurer's Office of the Stark County Court House and a retired employee for the Records Division of the Stark County Board of Elections. She was a long time member of St. Jospeph Catholic Church in Canton and following her retirement she volunteered at the Mayfield Senior Center. Preceded in death by her son, SP/4 Robert D. Snyder, killed in Vietnam on June 28, 1967; her husband of 60 years, Woodrow D. Butch Snyder, Aug. 6, 2001. Survivors include her son, Dennis W. Snyder of West Palm Beach, FL; her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Ann and Steven Knoch of North Canton; four grandchildren, Robert Snyder, Megan, Matthew and Morgan Knoch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. with Msgr. Frank Carfagna as celebrant. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 7-9 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Bruce R. Kumer
Bruce R. Kumer, age 60, of Canton, passed away in the Emergency Room at Mercy Medical Center early Sunday morning after a sudden illness. He was born in Detroit, MI and resided in the Manchester-Canal Fulton area for a number of years before moving to Canton three years ago. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was employed in the Norton School System for 35 years, retiring as principal from Norton Middle School. At the present time he was working at Met Life in the retirement sector of the insurance company. He was a graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He received his Masters Degree from Akron University. He was a member of the OEA, NEA and the Principals Assoc. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Rinaldo), with whom he celebrated 35 years of marriage on Sept. 23, 2001; a son, Scott Kumer of Chicago, IL; a daughter, Dr. Kim Kumer of Canton; his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Kumer of Canton. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Kumer. Mass of Christian Burial will be sung Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Church with Rev. Fr. Bradford Helman as celebrant. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Friends may call at St. Michael's Church Wednesday 9-11 a.m., before services. Cletus Williams, age 83, of Canton, died Thursday February 21, 2002 in Aultman Hospital. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. February 28, 2002 in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
Edward Borkowski
Edward Borkowski, age 85, of Canton, died Monday morning in Hennis Care Centre, Bolivar following an extended illness. Son of the late John and Stephanie (Popkie) Borkowski. He was an East Sparta area resident for 68 years, retiring from the Carpenters Union Local #69 after 50 years of service. Edward was of the Catholic Faith and was a WWII Navy Veteran. He is also preceded in death by his step-mother, Laura Borkowski; two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Margaret B. (Rennie) to who he was married 61 years; one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Fred Diss of Canton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Laurel Borkowski of East Sparta, Mark and Jennifer Borkowski of Canton; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave with Manley Pierce officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. Jack Steede
Jack Steede, age 78, of Sebring, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Alliance Community Hospital Emergency Room. He was born Oct. 19, 1923, in Alliance, son of William G. Steede and Virginia (Kilgore). He was employed at Alliance Machine Co. for 45 years as a Master Erector. Graduate of Alliance High School. Member of and held various offices of the VFW Post 6730 in Sebring and member of the American Legion Post 76 in Sebring. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bette L. (Butler), May 12, 1994. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, William and Melissa Steede of Sebring; brother, Ted Steede of Alliance; grandchildren, Nicole Steede, Lindsey Steede, W. Matthew Steede, Jessica Jones of Fresno, CA; great-granddaughter, Taylor Steede; nephew, Ted Steede. Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Rev. Jean E. Rolli
Jean E. (Beiter) Rolli, age 79, of North Canton, passed away Monday morning in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. Born in Portage, PA., she was the daughter of the late, William E. and Martina Beiter. She retired from Portage Electric Products in 1987, and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in North Canton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth F. Rolli who passed away in 1991. She is survived by sons, Thomas W. Rolli of North Canton, James K. and his wife, Lois Rolli of North Canton; brother, Robert and his wife, Mary Lou Beiter of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Adam and Matthew. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday February 28, 2002 in St. Paul's Catholic Church in North Canton with Fr. Joseph S. Rudjak as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. John A. Chuchanis
John A. Chuchanis, age 86 of Canton, passed away early Monday morning. A life resident of Canton, he was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, church Men's Club, A.H.E.P.A., and the Tri-County Restaurant Association, from whom he received the Jesse Knight Award. He was the former owner of The Chocolate Shop it Canton, and was retired from Topps Chalet where he was the Maitre'd for over 25 years. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Preceded in death by his parents, Andy Frank and Frances Chuchanis, wife, Corelle Susie Chuchanis, daughter, Cindy Lockhart on Aug. 8, 2001, sisters, Esther Poulos, Ann Peters, Mary Michaels, and brother, Nick Chuchanis. He is survived by his son-in-law, William Lockhart of Uniontown; step-son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Phyllis Saultz of New Jersey; grandchildren, Nicole Anastas, Joshua Lockhart, Deborah Saultz, Steve Saultz; great-granddaughter, Sophie Anastas; brother, Gus Chuchanis; sister, Basilia Zenallis both of Canton, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Marian E. (McAdoo) Fitzgerald, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at the age of 77. Preceded in death by dear husband, Evan Fitzgerald. Mother of Scott (Sheri); beloved sister of Rosemary (James) Schaffner; grandmother of Ryan, Sean and Erin. Survived by other friends and relatives. Mary K. Russ, age 89, formerly of Canton, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, in Zanesville, OH. Born in Cambridge, OH, Nov. 9, 1912, daughter of the late Emil Kosokar Sr. and Anna (Burlea) Kosokar. Preceded in death by her husband, John J. Russ, Sept. 18, 1983, whom she married June 7, 1936. She was employed at Berger's Factory in Canton for many years. Nancy C. Simon, age 55, of Houston, TX., passed away Sunday, February 24, 2002. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward R. Puskas. Ms Simon was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston; and was formerly employed at Grace School and Shell Oil Company. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Simon; mother, Agnes Puskas; brother, Edward Puskas; former husband, Frank Simon. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Navarre, Perry Grange, and the Welcome In Club. Survived by her husband, Earl C. Klick, whom she married October 2, 1955; one son, Michael Klick of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Lee (Cindy) Varns of Sugarcreek, Mrs. Michael (Bonnie) Strubel and Mrs. Ron (Donna) King both of Navarre; one sister, Mrs. Ernest (Judy) Wanner of Canton; five grandchildren. Naomi (Albert) Horner, age 72, of Canton, passed away early Monday morning at her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Horner was a life resident of Canton and a graduate of McKinley High School. She was a retired employee of City Wide Answering Service, where she worked for 20 years as a phone operator. She was the daughter of the late Mike and Mary (Abraham) Albert. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Norman Albert; three sisters, Jennie Albert, Helen Haddad and Millie Tahar. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, James Horner of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Lisa Horner and Brian and Tara Horner, all of Canton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Tim Meister, Linda and Lee Geiselman, all of Canton and Cynthia Horner of Pleasanton, CA; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Eileen Albert of Lacy, WA, Larry and Betsie Alberts of Madison, WI, John and Nancy Albert of Deerfield Beach, FL and Al Albert of Canton; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy Tomey, Martha and Mike Johns and Lydia and Lee Elliott, all of Canton, Esther Bristow of Emerald Isle, NC; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Albert of Canton; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Sue Linhart
Sue Linhart, age 62, of Alliance, passed away Monday morning, February 25, 2002, in her home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born November 27, 1939, in Dennison, OH, to the late Charles B. and Gladys (Beans) Shaw. Sue was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Louisville; a graduate of Tuscarawas Warwick High School, Class of 1957; an active member of the Ohio Board of Realtors for 25 years, and enjoyed her work with Marks and Taylor Realtors for the past 25 years. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Walter H. Linhart, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Timothy C. Abraham of Canfield, OH; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Tammy Linhart of Upper Sandusky, OH, Michael H. and Trisha Linhart of Salem, OH; two sisters, Gloria Clay of New Philadelphia and Jane Haas of Dover; seven precious grandchildren: Nicole, Emily, Brandon, Ryan, Marissa, Amanda and Kyle,
who played a significant role in her life and brought her great joy; her mother-in-law, Esther Linhart of Louisville. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Blackstone and Glenn Shaw; and her step-mother, Faye Shaw. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Stier-Israel Funeral Home, Louisville, with Rev. Dr. Ed Beck and Rev. Jack Austin officiating. Wanda Augsburger
Wanda Elaine Augsburger, age 72, of Bolivar, OH, formerly of Canton, died Sunday, February 24, 2002 in her home following a courageous battle against cancer. Born May 4, 1929 in Canton to the late Robert E. and Ruth A. (Geckler) Armstrong. She had worked for Canton Enameling Co., Timken Co. as a secretary and other Canton area businesses. She was also a homemaker most of her life. She attended Bolivar Wesleyan Church, member of Woman of the Word Bible study group and enjoyed sewing and flower gardening. Survived by her husband of 53 years, James F. Augsburger; son, Christopher J. and wife, Tracy Augsburger of Tallahassee, FL; sister, Patricia and husband, George Bachmann of Akron, OH; four sisters-in-law, Betty Armstrong and Stella Wisniewski, both of Canton, Mary Augsburger and Trudy Hechtal, both of Bolivar. Preceded in death by one brother, Robert Armstrong. Services will be Thursday, February 28, 2002 at 1 p.m. in Bolivar Wesleyan Church, 241 Pine St. NW, Bolivar with Rev. Steven A. Gerig officiating. Adabelle C. Wagner
Adabelle C. Wagner, age 100, of Canton, died Sunday, February 24, 2002 at Hanover House, following a long illness. She was born February 20, 1902 in Canton to the late John and Laura (Weckman) Deppish. A lifelong resident of Canton, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where her parents were charter members of the parish which is celebrating its 100th anniversary as well. A graduate of Canton McKinley High School Class of 1921. She was the oldest living lifetime patron member of the alumni association. She was active in many civic and church related organizations. Together with her late husband, Kenneth, she was an avid dancer, and had attended 2,072 dances. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wagner on November 7, 1999; a brother, Robert Deppish; and a sister, Sr. Mary Damian. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, George and Marjorie Wagner of Jackson Twp.; grandchildren, Gregory Wagner and wife, Kimberly of Enon, OH, Peter Wagner and wife, Kimberly of Canton, Monica Wirsing and husband, Dean of Redmond, WA; great-grandchildren, Eric, Kerry, Brian, Allen, Michael, Kevin, Cressie, Ariel, Keith, Daniel and Hope; numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Edward Beneleit as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
