Arthur B. Sisler
Arthur B. Sisler, age 79, formerly of Canton, passed away Thursday evening at Rae Suburban Nursing Home in Westlake, OH, after an extended illness. He was born in Ironton, OH. He was a member of First Friends Church in Canton. He was retired from Ashland Oil Co. as Chemist Treater for 38 years. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the Army Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur C. and Sadie (Crowe) Sisler; and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Marie (DiGiovanni) Sisler with whom he married for 55 years; one son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Nancy Sisler of Cleveland and with whom he had made his home; one sister and brother-in-law, Avonelle and Veryl Very of Fairborn, OH; two grandsons, Arthur P. and Andrew R. Sisler. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First Friends Church with Pastor Mark A. Engel officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. There will be calling hour at the church one hour before the service from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Friends Church at 5409 N. Market Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44709.
Bert M. Orban
Bert M. Orban, age 46, of North Canton, passed away Thursday, evening after a lengthy illness. He owned and operated Orban Audio. Survived by his wife, Pam Orban; daughter, Kathy Orban; son, Michael Orban; father, Bert W. Orban; two sisters and one brother. Friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 p.m. in the Schneeberger Funeral Home. The Eagles Club of North Canton # 6979, where he was a member, will conduct services at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Cheryl D. Sole
Cheryl D. Sole, age 54, went home to be with The Lord on Feb. 21, 2002. A native of Canton, she is the daughter of the late James L. and Ann B. Pepper. Member of First Church of the Nazarene. Also preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia R. Sole. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Robert Haas; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Sole , Brian and Amy Sole all of the Canton area; six grandchildren, Nick, Corey, Taylin, Jessica, Kerra, and Kirsten; and many other friends and family. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in The First Church of The Nazarene, with James S. Hill, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Ida Bell Joseph
Ida Bell Joseph, age 89, of Canton died Thursday in Mercy Medical Center. The daughter of the late George and May (Jones) Portwood, she was born in Akron November 16, 1912. A member of the Greensburg Congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses, she is survived by son, James Vender of Kentucky; daughter, Jean Matetic of Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Bette Ann and Robert Sitler of North Canton; son and daughter-in-law, John and Joan Vender of Canton; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles D. Vendor, great-grandson, Robert Prince, and several brothers and sisters. Private services will be held Sunday and Greensburg Congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses at the convenience of the family. Jeffrey L. Jolly
Jeffrey L. Jolly, age 48, of Louisville, died Friday morning in his home following a brief illness. He was a life resident of the Canton area and was employed by Republic Technologies for 28 years. Member of the First Assembly of God, Louisville, where he had served as an Usher. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout assistant scout leader; and was a 1971 graduate of Canton South High School. Survived by his wife, Karen S. (Griffin), to whom he was married 20 years; one son, Joshua Jolly; one daughter, Rachael Jolly both of the home; his parents, Lynn and Maxine Jolly of Canton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Timothy and Patricia Jolly of Fairlawn, Stephen and Mary Jolly of Wooster, Karen Jolly of Swansboro, NC; two nieces and two nephews. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church, Louisville, with pastor Danny Deem and Stephen W. Kimbrel officiating. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on So. Cleveland Ave., and one hour before services at the church on Monday (10-11 a.m.)

John P. Mancini
John P. Mancini, age 82, of North Canton, went home to be with the Lord Thursday evening in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Beaver Falls, PA, and resided in the Canton area most of his life. He was a member of the Bethel Temple Assembly of God Church. He was a charter member of the YMCA, founding member of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship, a volunteer at the Plain Twp. Fire Dept. and did volunteer work at Aultman Hospital. He was a retired machinist from Stark Ceramic Co. and also worked at Stark Truss Co. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Navy. He is survived by his wife, Julia (Efanti) Mancini, with whom he would have celebrated 58 years of marriage on Aug. 28, 2002; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Linda Mancini of Columbus, John J. and Cindy Mancini of Monroe Falls, OH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and John Bogniard of North Canton, Ruthanne and Ron Wilkof of Canton; two sisters, Julia Casciani and Pauline Babtist, both of Canton; ten grandchildren, Dr. Rachel Mancini and Ryan Mancini, both of Columbus, Misty Walters and Christanne Mancini, both of Lakeland, FL, Andrea and Kristin Gocek, Jeff and Jason Bogniard, Tyler and Brittany Wilkof, all of Canton. Preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Henrietta Mancini; three brothers, Samuel, Guy and Greene Mancini; one sister, Rose Julian. Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Bethel Temple Assembly of God Chuch with Pastor James Arnold officiating. Kay Kovesci
Kay Kovesci, loving wife, mother and grandmother, age 67, of North Canton, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon in Aultman Hospital. Born November 16, 1934, in Canton. She was a Lady Elk with North Canton Elks Lodge #2029; and was an avid McKinley Football fan. She was former employee of the Timken Co., the U.S. Census Bureau, and was retired from the United States Post office with over 25 years of service. She was a very selfless person that would do anything for her family, always putting others before herself. She was the peace keeper of her extended family. Kay was a lover of animals and showed horses for many years. Preceded in death by her father, Donald Keefer; one brother, James Keefer; one sister-in-law, Carol Keefer. Survivors include her husband, Louis of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Kathy Lilley, Karen and Nicholas Stock all of North Canton, there are three grandchildren, Trisha Parker, Justin and Kaitlin Stock. She was the devoted daughter of Verna Keefer of North; the sister of Jon Keefer of Canton; and the aunt to several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Stark County.
Lillian W. Hoffman
Lillian W. Hoffman, age 97, of Canton, passed away Friday morning. She was born November 5, 1904 in Canton, was a life resident of Canton and a member of North Industry United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Lester in 1970. Survivors include one daughter, Diane Barnett; one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Pat Hoffman; one granddaughter and husband, Arleen and Ron Hupp all of Canton; and one grandson, Ron Hoffman, Jr. currently serving in the Navy and stationed in California. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Monday from 10-11 a.m.
Morton Miller
Morton Miller, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002. Born March 3, 1916 in Cleveland, Mr. Miller moved to Urichsville in 1936 when he married the former Helen Legg of New Philadelphia, who preceded him in death in 1993. He moved to Wadsworth in 1945, where he opened a hobby shop and sign business. In the 1950's he was an artist in the Ohio Match Co., designing match book covers. Mr. Miller moved to California in 1960 and retired from the City of Los Angeles sign department, where he was the only painter who hand lettered gold leaf signs for the city offices. The Millers returned to Ohio in 1988, where he operated his own sign company and worked in his son's auto dealership in Canton until he was 83 years old. Mr. Miller served in the U. S. Army in 1945 and was a member of the 20-30 Club in Wadsworth during the 1950's, He leaves his daughter, Marilyn Gordon of Wadsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Nancy of Canton; son, Marvin of Seattle; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter. Preceded in death by brother, Jerome; sister, Dorothy Goodman. Special thanks to his caregivers Mia and Dan Bittinger, Charlie and Danny. Myrtle K. Cross
Myrtle K. Cross, age 91, of Minerva, died 6:40 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, in Altercare of Canton following a long illness. She was born Jan. 20, 1911, in East Rochester, OH, to Homer and Mary (Stackhouse) Cross. She retired after 33 years of service at the Minerva Banking Co., was a member of the East Rochester United Methodist Church, Minerva Women's Club, Minerva Chapter of the AARP #1808, Ladies Aux of the Minerva Eagles Aerie #2199 and was also a charter member of the Minerva Historical Society. She is survived by several cousins, including Helen Schumaker of Green Valley, AZ, Olive Patton of Minerva, Mrs. Don (Virginia) Ray of Florida. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Mr. Ralph Norman officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Memorial Park in Alliance. Calling hours will be one hour prior to services in the funeral home.
Nancy Jo McManus
Nancy Jo (Maxwell) McManus, age 65, died Feb. 20, 2002 in Dallas, where she resided since 1956. Nancy was born in Canton, June 4, 1936 and graduated for Lincoln High and had attended Bowling Green State University. Preceded in death by her husband, Alfred D. McManus and her parents, Josiah J. and Ethel C. Maxwell. She is survived by her son, Daniel (Donna) McManus of Garland, TX: and her sister, Mary Lou (Carl) Bendroth of Canton; one granddaughter, Shelby Lynn of Garland, TX; two nieces, Michele (Joe) Kearns of Brunswick, OH, and Nancy Ann (Reginald) Reynolds of Lufkin, TX; two grandnephews, Maxwell and Nicholas Reynolds of Lufkin, TX; and many cousins. Calling hours at Restland Chapel of Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX on Friday 6:30-8:30 p.m. and funeral on Saturday Feb. 23rd. Paul E. Gines
Paul E. Gines, age 70, of Canton, died Friday morning in Doctors Hospital following a sudden illness. Son of the late Samuel and Margaret (Judge) Gines. He was a Canton area resident since 1968, retiring from Georgia-Pacific Paper Co., Trucking Division, in 1995 after 15 years of service. Prior to which he had been employed by Mid-East Trucking for 19 years. Member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, where he had served as a Trustee. He is also preceded in death by two half sisters and one half brother. Survived by his wife, Helen L. (Strothers) to whom he was married 51 years; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Hank Schaeffer of East Canton; one son, Roger Gines of Massillon; four grandchildren, Erica, Sarah and her fiance Chris Miculan, Paul and Stephanie Gines; one sister, Rosemary Scarbrough of Browns, IL; several nieces and nephews. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton, with Rev. Dr. John States officiating. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Robert C. Haynes
Robert C. Haynes, age 84 of Canton died Thursday evening in Aultman Hospital following a three week illness. Born in Barberton, OH., he graduated from Barberton High School and Wittenberg University. Bob served nearly five years in the Army during WWII where he helped to develop Air-Borne Artillery. He was hired in 1947 by the M. O'Neil Co. in Akron. He became assistant to three divisional merchandise managers and was transferred to Canton as manager of the 30th Street Plaza Store; and eventually was General Manager of the three O'Neil Stores in Canton. Following 25 years of service, he joined the Higbee Co. of Cleveland. He assisted in opening Higbees at Belden Village and was operation manager at the store. Bob resigned from Higbees after two and a half years and associated with the Mac Allied Tool Co. in Tallmadge, where he eventually became Asst. Executive Vice President of Marketing. Bob was co-founder and secretary of the Williams and Lee Embellishing Co in Kent, OH for 12 years which turned out to be a multimillion dollar company. While in Akron, Bob was a member of Kiwanis Club for 10 years. He was also a member of Rotary Club of Canton for 15 years, on the board for two years and served on several committees. Bob served as trustee of the United Fund for five years and was an auditor for the yearly fund drive. He served as a board member of the Central Canton Development Assoc; Trustee of Greater Council of Churches; Trustee of Downtown Merchants Assoc; President of Mellet Mall Merchants Assoc. as well as the 30th Street Plaza Merchants Assoc; Board Member of the American Cancer Society; Member of the American Red Cross Blood program of which he was an 11 gallon blood donor; he later volunteered for the Community Blood Program,. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club. Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years where he served as President of the Trustees, Purchasing Agent, Deacon, Finance Committee, served as an usher and was a member of the choir. Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Martha (Feudner) Haynes of the residence; daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Read Wakefield of Vermillion, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Elaine Haynes of Columbus, OH; three granddaughters, Alison and Sara Marconi, Amy Wakefield; sister, Miriam R. Haynes of Barberton, OH; sisters-in-law, Elsie Feudner and Nancy Hartz of Akron. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Memorial Service will be Monday 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. John M. Mann officiating. A private interment will be for the family. The family will receive friends following the service in the church on Monday. Nora Moser
Nora Moser, age 97, of Minerva, passed away Thursday February 21, 2002 in Alliance Community Hospital. Born January 4, 1905 in Greene County, PA., she was the daughter of the late Grant and Alyzan (Tennant) Yost. She was a homemaker and a great quilter, a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, the Brown Frame Friendly Circle and a former cook for Minerva Community Meals. She is survived by daughter, Ruth A. (Carl) Felger of Minerva; son, Wilbur G. Moser (Pat) of Frostproof, FL; son, Robert A. Moser of Minerva; daughter, Mamie E. (George) Custer of Alliance; daughter, Nellie M. Moser of Nashville, TN; son, Corwin A. (Jean) Moser Jr., of Honolulu, HI; son, Kenneth W. (Deanna Vinton, friend) Moser of Canton; sister, Irene Saltsman of Alliance; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Corwin A. Moser who died in 1985; four sisters; four brothers; two daughters-in-law; one grandchild; and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2002 at the Bartley Funeral Home with Rev. David Sperry officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Ada Gorman
Ada (Milan) Gorman went home to be with the Lord Feb. 20, 2002. She was born Oct. 27, 1916 in Clearwater, TN, to the late Walter and Florence Milan. She moved to Canton at the age of 12. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She loved to listen to gospel music. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Lee Gorman and her beloved brother, Robert Lee Milan. She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Mrs. Joan Harris of Cleveland, Mrs. June Collins of New York, Mrs. Irene Curry and Florence (Brandon) Settles of Canton; 17 grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She will also be sorely missed by sisters-in-law, Emma Lee Milan, Beatrice Baten, Dorothy Davis; and special friends, Anna Bell and Lillie P. Pearl. Special thanks to McKinley Life Center and Hospice for their support and loving care to the end.
