Daniel C. Welsh
Daniel C. Welsh, age 73, of Canton, passed away Sunday evening in the Altercare of Louisville following a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 7, 1929, in Harford, MD, and was employed for the Shanafelt Mfg. Co. as a welder retiring 1980. Member of the VFW Post #3747 of Canton and served in the Navy during World War II. Preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Ethel Welsh, sister, Dorothy and brother, Jimmy. Survived by his wife, Maggie Schumacher, whom he married Aug. 17, 1974; two sons, Daniel in Texas, and Jim in Canton. daughter, Theresa Shaffer of Houston, TX; two sisters, Genny McQuilland of New York, Bonnie Andrews of Florida; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Private memorial will be held at a later date.

Dr. Joseph Mason Jr.
Dr. Joseph William Mason Jr., age 81, of Alliance, OH., died Sunday, February 17, 2002, in the McCrea Manor Nursing Center. Born in New Orleans, LA., May 12, 1920. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph W. Mason Sr. and Bernadette Celina (Dedeaux) Mason. He was a physician; and attended Xavier Prep, Xavier University in New Orleans, LA., Howard University Medical School in Washington, DC. While in medical school, he entered the military service in the U.S. Army as a Private in June 1943. He accepted an officer's commissioned in December 1944, and was honorably discharged from active service a Captain in 1946. He married Naomi Elizabeth Kennedy Feb. 16, 1946 and moved to Alliance where he began his private medical practice as a General Practitioner. In 1954 he was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict and served as the Commander, Medical Detachment, 760th Field Artillery Battalion and later on the staff at the 97th General Hospital in Germany. In April 1956, he was honorably discharged as a Major, returned to Alliance, and restarted his medical practice. In later years he earned board certification as a specialist for both Internal and Pulmonary medicine. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Medical Association, Stark County Medical Society, Ohio State Medical Society; Associate Staff member of the Cleveland Clinic; he was a Board member of Stark County Heart Association and Stark County Lung Association. Survived by his wife, Naomi Mason of Alliance; daughter, Patricia Celina Frisby of San Diego, CA, sons, Gregory Oren Mason of Edgewood, Maryland, Charles Leon Mason of Rochester, NY; grandchildren Karyn Nicole Frisby, and Mrs. Matt (Robyn Renee Frisby) Koerbr of San Diego, CA, Joseph Walter Mason and Bobbi Elizabeth Mason both of Rochester, NY; sisters, Myrtle Wilson of Los Angeles, CA., Erma Grace Gordon of Loma Linda, CA and Mrs. Donald (Alida) Neveu of New Orleans, LA; brothers, Alvin Mason, Chicago, IL., Robert and Gwin Mason, Washington, DC., Ronald and Gladys Mason of New Orleans, LA. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph W. Mason III. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 22, 2002, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Feicht officiating. Friends may call in the Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, Alliance, Thursday 6-8 p.m. Interment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Contributions in his name may be made to: Parkinson Disease, Ohio State University, Department of Neurology, 1654 Upham Drive, Columbus, OH 43210.

Grace P. McAtee
Grace P. McAtee, age 84, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday evening, February 18, 2002, in the emergency room of Aultman Hospital. Born in Canton, OH, May 26, 1917 to her parents the late John and Iva Shaffer, she was a former employee of Mercy Hospital. Mrs. McAtee was a member of Greater Stark County Retirees Club of AFL-CIO and Mayfield Center. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Strouble, and husband, Clayton O. McAtee, July 28, 1975, her son, Donald L. Powell, four brothers and one sister. Survivors include her daughter, Donna Jean Powell of Kernesville, NC; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Janice Powell of Canton, OH; daughter-in-law, Molly Powell of Kernersville, NC; granddaughter, Tammy Hardman of Palms, CA; grandson, Paul Powell of Kernersville, NC; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. David E. Harmon officiating. Burial will be in North Canton Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home Wednesday (TONIGHT) 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Thursday 12 noon to 1 p.m.

Joanne M. Ackerman
Joanne M. Ackerman. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Waltner-Simchak Funeral Home with Rev. Rodney Pamer officiating. Burial in Liberty Cemetery, Paris Twp. Friends may call Wednesday (tonight) 7-9 p.m.

Lois A. Burns
Lois A. (Seevers) Burns. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Oser as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m. in the Wackerly Funeral Home.

Marian E. Barry
Marian E. Barry. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Trinity United Church of Christ, Canton, OH. Friends will be received Wednesday in the Schneeberger Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Thursday in the church parlor. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, 3909 Blackburn Rd. N.W. Canton, OH 44718.

Morris M. Beamer
Morris M. Beamer, age 82, of Canton, died Monday afternoon in his residence following a sudden illness. A life resident of Canton. He was retired from the Timken Co. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church, Canton Lodge #60 F AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton and Tadmor Temple. Preceded in death by a brother, Alton Beamer. Morrie was an avid Walleye fisherman and truly loved the Cleveland Indians. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bernice Beamer of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James A. and Sally Beamer of Bradenton, FL; two grandsons, Bryan and Scott Richardson, also of Florida. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home, 710 Tuscarawas St. West, with Rev. Barbara S. Ross officiating. Friends may Thursday 4-7 p.m. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Masonic service will be Thursday at 6:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Stark County, 5100 Peach St., Louisville, OH 44601.

Paul A. Manzella
Paul A. Manzella, age 46, of Independence, KY, formerly of Canton, passed away suddenly Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, in Allen County, OH, after a sudden illness. He was born in Canton, a graduate of Glenwood High School. He was owner and operator of Manzella Testing Service Inc. for the past three years. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Banach) Manzella; a son, John Manzella; a daughter, Nicole Manzella, both of Kentucky; father and stepmother, Albert and Donna Manzella of Canton; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Mary Manzella of Canton; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Brad Price of Canton; a niece, Marcie (Gregory) Bragg of Canton. Services are being arranged for Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home with Rev. David Atkinson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services on Saturday, 10-11 a.m. His wishes were to be cremated. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made in his memory to the Golden Retriever Rescue C/O, Ralph Nickes, 2215 S. St Rt. 257, Ostrander, OH. 43061.

Kay Pappas
Kay Pappas. And I'll take away all the pain you have suffered on this earth and one day I will wipe away every tear from your eye Rev. 21:3-4 On Friday, February 15, 2002, at 10:30 p.m., Kay (Hackathorn) Pappas received eternal life. With her husband, children and grandchildren holding her in their arms as she drew her final breath--her victory complete. With God in her heart and peace in her spirit she has been made whole. She was born in Malvern, Ohio, August 29, 1943. She attended Canton South High School and worked diligently all of her life as a homemaker. She was a fabulous cook and there was never anyone who left her house without a meal. She will most be remembered by her incredible love for her grandchildren: Nicole and Natalie Mollica. Brittani, Teddy, Abigail, Hannah and Baby Girl Pappas. She is also survived by her gentle care giver and husband of 40 years, Theodosis Ted Pappas Sr.; her three children and their spouses, Ted Pappas Jr. (Lori), Angela Angie Pappas-Mollica (Tony), Nicole Pappas-McKinney (Dale); a brother, Tom Hackathorn; and sisters, Jane Rossetti and Judy Caley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth (Williams) Hackathorn; a grandchild, Carmen Mollica; and brother, Robert Hackathorn. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the First Church of the Nazarene, 522 - 30th St. NW, Canton, OH., with Pastor Robert Merki officiating. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Karlo Sons in North Canton 5-9 p.m. Tuesday. The family would like to thank Aultman Hospice nurse Ellen Deeds, RN, for her unconditional love and compassion. In honor of her grandchildren, memorial contributions may be made to Lake Center Christian School High School Building Fund, 12893 Kaufman St. NW, Hartville, OH 44632.

Theodore Cunningham
Theodore (Jimbo) Cunninham, age 83, passed away Sunday evening, February 17, 2002, following an extended illness. He was born on March 18,1918 to parents, Frank (Ida B. Fisher) Cunningham in Okolona, MI. The family moved to Canton, where Theodore attended school and graduated from McKinley High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he attained the rank of sargeant. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After returning to Canton, he was employed as a laborer at the former Republic Steel Corporation. He was a member of St. Paul AME Church, Canton, where he served faithfully until ill health prevented him. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and fiver sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Inez Cunningham of the home; one son, Alvin (Shirley) Cunningham of Canton; three daughters, Gayle (Lehman) Redding, Carole (Herman) Smith, both of Canton, and Lorraine (Frank) Bibby of Eldorado, AR; one stepson, James Jewell of Canton; three sisters, Annie Wilson of San Bernadino, CA., Ruby Foster of Canton, OH., and Loretta Graham of Milwaukee, WI; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Services are Friday February 22, 2002 at St. Paul AME Church, 1800 E. Tuscarawas St., Canton. Calling hours 11-1 p.m. Friday at the church. Funeral at 1 p.m. with Pastor, Rev. Robert Dye officiating. Interment at Forest Hills Cemtery. Friends are being received at the residence, 206 Freedom Ave NE, Canton. Caring arrangements by Jones Memorial Funeral Home.
