Andrea K. Smith
Andrea Andi K. Smith, age 34, of Carrollton, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Monday evening, January 28, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Carrollton, OH with Dr. Charles Naylor officiating. Calling hours will be observed at the Allmon-Dugger Hively Funeral Home in Carrollton 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. A memorial graveside committal service will be observed at a later time. B. Irene Curry
B. Irene Curry, 87, of Amsterdam died Wednesday morning January 30, 2002, in the Atwood Nursing Home at Carrollton following an extended illness. She was born January 4, 1915 in Amsterdam, daughter of the late Addison Leroy and Mae Yingling Curry. She was a member of the Amsterdam United Church and a former Amsterdam Village council member for several terms. She was a member of the Unionport Chapter #360 Order of Eastern Star. Irene donated a portion of the land at the site of the Gazebo Park in downtown Amsterdam. Irene was a graduate of McKinley High School in Canton. Her undergraduate degree was received from Miami University of Ohio. She furthered her education receiving her Master's Degree from Ohio State University at Columbus. She was a public school teacher who taught in Canton for 8 years, Amsterdam for 8 years and Carrollton for 9 years. After her retirement she traveled extensively throughout the world. Irene was and avid golfer at the Red Oaks Golf Club and bowled in several women's leagues at Garson Lanes in Amsterdam. Irene is survived by her sister, Evelyn Stribbe of Greensboro, NC; a niece and nephews, Carolyn Curry of Columbus and Amsterdam, William Sally Curry of Amsterdam, Paul and Karen Curry of Amsterdam. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gus Curry on March 20, 1979. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home of Amsterdam with Rev. Don Ebert officiating. Burial will follow in Simmons Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in Irene's memory to the Amsterdam United Methodist Church or the Amsterdam Leading Library.
Concetta A. Seghi
Concetta A. Connie (Jannelli) Seghi, age 83, of Canton, passed away Saturday evening in Aultman Hospital after a sudden illness. She was a life resident of Canton, a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and also had been a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. During World War II she had been employed at Timken Co. in the bearing department and also during the war was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. Prior to that she was a waitress at the Onesto Hotel and was also a homemaker. She was an avid bowler, gardener, and enjoyed doing her needlepoint as a hobby. She also was a leader in the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. She was the daughter of the late Battista and Maria (D'Apollo) Jannelli; preceded in death by her husband, Edward Seghi, four sisters, Rose and Palmina Jannelli, Lucille DeCesare (Norcia) and Elizabeth Ianigro; three brothers, Daniel, Anthony and John Jannelli. She is survived by one son, Edward D. Seghi, Jr. of Canton; one daughter and son-in-law, Susanna and Poul Bertelsen of Minnetonka, MN; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Clara Jannelli of Canton; sister-in-law, Helen Jannelli of Norwalk, OH; three grandchildren and spouses, Kenneth and Betsy Bertelsen, Marian and Charles Bradburn and Nathan Bertelsen; a number of nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Nentwick as celebrant. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Dorothy V. Muster
Dorothy V. Muster, age 89, formerly of Massillon and more recently of North Carolina died Tuesday in Wendell, NC, following an extended illness. She was born Oct. 19, 1912 in Philadelphia. Preceded in death by her husband, William B. Muster. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Susan and Whittington of North Carolina; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Mark A. Engel officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Leslie N. Beckwith
Leslie N. Beckwith, age 77 of North Canton died Tuesday in Altercare of Canton. A member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, he was retired from Mohawk Rubber Co. and from the State of Ohio. During WWII Leslie served with the 11th Airborne Division in New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon, and Japan. He was a 1941 graduate of Hower High School. Survived by wife of 41 years, Mary Jane Beckwith; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Michael Neal of Randolph and Kenneth and (Laura) of Grove City, OH; daughter, Kathryn Beckwith of the home; son, Lawrence and (Beverly) of North Canton; daughter, Sarah Beckwith of Canton; grandchildren, Rachel, Bridget, and Benjamin Neal, and Olivia, Eleanor, Louisa, Stephen, and Bradley Beckwith; brother, Harvey of Ocala, FL and Raymond of Green; sister, Marie Moore of Fairlawn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Joseph Rudjak officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mary Balaski, age 86, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002 at Rose Lane Health Care Center. A lifetime resident of Canton. She was a former employee of O'Neil's Department Store. A member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Miraculous Medal Sodality. Preceded in death by her husband, Chester P. Balaski; father, Steve Collins; mother, Pauline Marchuk; stepfather, Luke Marchuk; three brothers, Andy and Max Collins, Louie Marchuk; a sister, Pauline (Marchuk) Finn. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Ron Leopold of Canton; son and daughter-in-law, David M. and Beth Balaski of Canton; grandchildren, Greg, Tim and Diane, Brian Leopold, Staci and Michael Iser, Autumn and Miranda Balaski; five great-grandchildren, Timmy, Brittany, Randy, Ashley Leopold, Morgan Iser; a sister and brother-in-law, Nesta and Vince Cammel of Canton; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Josephine Lubnick of Canton. Pearl L. Dalton
Pearl L. Dalton, 90 of Rt. 1 Reedsville died Tuesday, January 29, 2002 in Heartland of Preston County following a long illness. She was born November 23, 1911, in Mountain Heights, a daughter of the late George M. and Hattie J. Molisee McMillen. She was a homemaker and Pentecostal by faith. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth E. Dalton of Canton, OH and Edward D. Dalton of North Canton, OH; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willis E. Dalton, two sons, Cecil W. Dalton and Daris E. Dalton, seven brothers, two sisters, and a great-grandchild. Friends may call at the Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and at the Nicholson Chapel on Summers School Road Saturday, February 2, 2002 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. the funeral hour with Rev. Sarah A. Pfouts
Sarah A. Pfouts, age 81, of Rocky Hill, CT., passed away January 16, 2002. Sarah retired from Travelers Insurance Co. in 1982 after 40 years of service. She is survived by a brother, Alfred L. Pfouts and his wife, Betty; and a niece; and a nephew all of the Canton area. Sarah was cremated and interred in the mausoleum at Mount St. Benedicts Cemetery. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday January 24, 2002 at 10 a.m. in St. James Church. There were no calling hours or service. Scot White
Scot A. Squappy White, age 38, passed away unexpectedly January 29, 2002. Scot was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, North Canton, and was a season ticket holder and enthusiastic fan in the Cleveland Browns Dawg Pound. Music was his life and he was an avid concert attendee. Scot was a former employee of the Ohio Department of Transportation, at which time he was named Employee of the Year. Preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn. He is survived by his father, John F. White, Sr., brother, John F. White, Jr.; sister-in-law, Suzanne; two beautiful nieces, Natalie and Olivia; special friend, Mike Burdohan; extended family Ron Doc (Carole) DeRhodes; brother, Jon; sisters, Lynda (Allen) Young, Diane (Deno) Webb, Ellen (Mark) Stauffer; grandma, Mae Wooster; and many friends who loved him very much. The family will receive friends Friday 2-3:30 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown, where funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. with Pastor David J. Wright officiating. Sharon K. Fross
Sharon K. Fross, age 56, of Canton, died Wednesday morning in Aultman Hospital after a courageous two year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). She was born in Dover, a daughter of Marjorie Hall Davidson of Canton, and the late Jesse Davidson, and had been a resident of the Canton-North Canton area since 1963. Sharon was a 1963 graduate of Tusky Valley High School where she was valedictorian, a 1966 graduate of Malone College and received her Master's degree in Education from the University of Akron. Following graduation she taught one year for Canton City Schools and 32 years at Louisville Middle School where she taught Language Arts until retiring in 1999. She was an active member of Church of the Lakes United Methodist. Surviving besides her mother is her husband, David Fross, with whom she celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on July 2, 2001; her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Nancy Davidson, of N. Canton, and their children, Jo Davidson and her husband, Tommy Manzi, Jennifer Tenaglia and her husband, Bob, Barbara and Lisa Davidson; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Ron and Glenna Morris Fross, of Wooster. Services will be conducted Sat. at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Lakes with Dr. Bryan George and Sharon's brother, Paul Davidson, officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. A career, model teacher, Sharon was loved and respected by students, fellow educators, administrators and parents. She was an outstanding human being and a true inspiration to everyone who knew her. She was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend. She was an avid sports fan and the number one Assistant to her husband, the coach. Despite being missed by all her earthly comrades, it is reassuring to know that Sharon had a strong and unwavering faith that assures her a place in God's Kingdom.

Sister Patricia Ann Hennessy, H.M, age 95, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria, PA. Sr. Patricia was born in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of John and Mary Sullivan Hennessy. She entered the Sisters of the Humility of Mary from St. Philip Neri Church, Cleveland, OH, February 10, 1927. She received her BSE from St. John College, Cleveland, and her MEd from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA. Sister Patricia Ann taught for 49 years in schools in the Cleveland and Youngstown Dioceses including St. Paul in Canton and St. Barbara in Massillon. Calling hours will be at Villa Maria Chapel, VillaMaria, PA, Friday, Feb. 1, 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and Saturday, 9-10 a.m. Wake service is scheduled for Friday 7:15 p.m. Sister Patricia Ann is survived by her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation; sister, Lucille Hennessy of Cleveland; and nephew, Rev. Vivian J. Saunders, age 72, died Monday in Mercy Medical Center. She was a former grade school teacher in the Canton and Cleveland areas. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Theodore Woodson of Bladenboro, NC; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Tina of Hilliard, OH, and Kenneth and Mary of Stephens City, VA; grandchildren, Wyatt and Cole Woodson, and Nathan and Jacob Saunders. Preceded in death by parents, John and Dorothy Walters; and husband, Roderick A. Saunders in 1990. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Joseph Rudjak officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. William Allmon
William Thomas Allmon, age 80 of Thomas Avenue NW, Carrollton, OH, died in his residence Wednesday, January 30, 2002. He was born on March 23, 1921 in Bergholz, OH. He was the son of the late Andrew Roy and Henrietta (Connor) Allmon. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1939. After high school, he worked at Timken Co. in Canton, OH, Then with his father and brother, Gerald B. Allmon, started the Allmon Funeral Home. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942, and served in the SeaBees. He was honorably discharged in 1945. While in the Navy he attended the Ohio Wesleyan University. He worked at J.C. Penny's, Rhuark's Pharmacy, and the post office before he entered the service and after he was discharged from the Navy. He attended McKinley Law School in Canton, OH, where he attended nights from 1946 to 1950, receiving his law degree in 1950. While in law school he and his wife, Lillian had two sons, David in 1947 and Tom in 1950. Judge Allmon began his law practice in Carrollton in June 1950. He served as Probate/Juvenile Judge, Carroll County, from 1951 to 1959. While he was Judge, he had one daughter, Kathy in 1956. He was appointed assistant State Welfare Director under Gov. Lausche from 1959 to 1960. He was then appointed to fill the term of 7th District Court of Appeals on August 11, 1960. In 1961 he came back to practice law and opened a law office in Carrollton. Also in 1961 he was appointed to the Ohio Commission of Children and Youth where he served as chairman. From 1963 through 1965, he served as Village Solicitor for Carrollton. From 1965 to 1967 he was a representative from Carroll County to Ohio General Assembly while continuing to practice law. From 1967 to 1985 he was Carroll County Court Judge and continued to practice law. From 1985 to 1991 he was Carroll County Probate/Juvenile Judge, ending on February 8, 1991. He was past President of the Carroll County Bar Association, a member of the American and Ohio State Bar Association, former member of the House of Delegates of the Ohio State Bar Association. Past member of the Stark County Bar Association, charter member of Lion's Club and was the first President, former member of Rotary Club, life member of the American Legion Post 428, UMYF leader with his wife, Lillian and Sunday School Teacher and lay leader at the First United Methodist Church. Judge Allmon was married on November 4, 1944 to Lillian E. Rintanen who survives along with two sons, David Allmon, a veterinarian in Chardon, OH, Thomas Allmon, a family physician in West Linn, OR, and Kathleen Stoneman, an attorney in Carrollton; three grandsons and one granddaughter, Jesse Burke-Allmon, Dylan Burke-Allmon, Ethan Stoneman and Maureen Stoneman. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald B. Allmon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Carrollton with Dr. Charles Naylor and Rev. Mark Statler officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the VFW, American Legion and DAV. Calling hours will be observed at the First United Methodist Church from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll County Hospice, Carroll County Visiting Nurses, First United Methodist Church or the William T. Allmon Scholarship Fund. Mary E. Miller
Mary Elizabeth (Casto) Miller, age 88, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in the comfort of her home. Born in Marietta, OH, on April 10, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Virgil L. and Elva C. (Martin) Casto. She moved from Marietta to Canton in 1940 and was employed as a Legal Secretary, serving the firm of Quinn, Quinn Hillibish and then retiring from the firm of Mills, Mills, Fiely Lucas in 1978. She was a member of the Fairmount Park United Presbyterian Church, a member of the Crystal Club, Wilma Forrester Missionary, was a former President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Canton AARP #316. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William R. Bill Miller, also by a baby Girl Miller and two brothers, Dwight and Lyle Casto. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard A. and Kim Miller of California, David W. and Frances Frankie Miller of Magnolia, OH; grandchildren, Steve and Tamara Miller, Robert Miller and Heather, all of Canton, Annette Miller of San Jose, CA, Timothy, Jeffrey and Steve Powell, all of Canton and Pauline Powell of Massillon; 12 great-grandchildren, Adam Miller of Myrtle Beach, SC, Shannon and Britnee Miller of Atwater, OH, Morgan, Sierra, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Merri and Glori Anne Miller and Kegan Powell, all of Canton, Andrea Miller of Medina, OH, Kyla Powell of Massillon; one great-grandchild, Dustin Wade Spruill of North Carolina. There are many beloved family members residing in Marietta, OH, as well as neighbors and her close friend, Ruth Kohlmyer of Canton. A Memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Fairmount Park Presbyterian Church, 2817 Harmont Ave. NE, Canton. Her wishes were to be cremated and her cremains will be buried on Friday at 1 p.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery. The Reed Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Kathleen M. Stock
Kathleen M. Stock, age 83, died January 29, 2002. Mrs. Stock retired in 1989 as a clerk from the Finney Drug Company with over 20 years service. She was born and lived her life in Canton. She was a member of the Little Flower Parish and the Alter and Rosary Society of the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerard (Jack); and is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and John Pastore of Hartville, Joan and Gary Orcutt of North Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Cynthia of Massillon, Timothy and Barbara of North Canton, Mark and Dannie of Florida, Thomas and Diane of Columbus, OH; brother, Richard Bing of Canton; 27 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday February 2, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Little Flower Parish. Burial St. Peter's Cemetery. Floyd W. Minor
Floyd W. Minor, age 78, of Canton, OH, passed away Tuesday evening at the home following an extended illness. Born in New Philadelphia, OH on December 2, 1923, he was the son of the late Walter and Goldie Minor. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Aircorp and was a retired employee of the Diebold Co., retiring in 1985 after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie C. Minor who passed away August 31, 2001. Survivors include three daughters, Frances L. Baer of Jewett, OH, Wilma J. Young and Zella McClelland, both of Baraboo, WI and his son, Alfred Wayne Minor of Canton; 13 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Chaplain Rick Brinsley officiating. Burial will be in Warstler Cemetery.
