Concetta A. Seghi
Concetta A. Connie (Jannelli) Seghi, age 83, of Canton, passed away Saturday evening in Aultman Hospital after a sudden illness. She was a life resident of Canton, a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and also had been a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. During World War II she had been employed at Timken Co. in the bearing department and also during the war was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. Prior to that she was a waitress at the Onesto Hotel and was also a homemaker. She was an avid bowler, gardener, and enjoyed doing her needlepoint as a hobby. She also was a leader in the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. She was the daughter of the late Battista and Maria (D'Apollo) Jannelli; preceded in death by four sisters, Rose and Palmina Jannelli, Lucille DeCesare (Norcia) and Elizabeth Ianigro; three brothers, Daniel, Anthony and John Jannelli. She is survived by one son, Edward S. Seghi, Jr. of Canton; one daughter and son-in-law, Susanna and Paul Bertelsen of Minnetonko, MN; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Clara Jannelli of Canton; sister-in-law, Helen Jannelli of Norwalk, OH; three grandchildren and spouses, Kenneth and Betsy Bertelsen, Marian and Charles Bradburn and Nathan Bertelsen; a number of nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Nentwick as celebrant. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Dorothy McCuskey
Dorothy McCuskey passed away on December 23, 2001. She had been a resident of Carolina Meadows Retirement Community in Chapel Hill, NC, since 1985. She is survived by two sisters, Jean McCuskey of Canton, OH and Marilyn McCuskey Wermuth (Mrs. John) of Elm Grove, WI, seven nephews and one niece. Her parents, Emery and Margaret George McCuskey, and brothers, Richard McCuskey and James McCuskey, predeceased her. Dr. McCuskey was born in West Lafayette, Ohio on November 12, 1906. She excelled in scholastics and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of Wooster in Ohio. She received her M.A. in English literature from Radcliffe College and began her teaching career at Rio Grande Junior College in Ohio. After four years, she enrolled at Yale University and received her Ph.D. in 1936. Her dissertation was published and widely used as a book entitled Bronson Alcott, Teacher. She taught at the institution now known as West Texas University until WWII broke out and the Navy asked for volunteers. She volunteered for the WAVES and served for 3 1/2 years as one of the first women naval officers, retiring with the rank of Commander. In 1947, she was the first woman ever hired in the Department of Education at the University of NC, where she taught until 1953. She spent four years at Bowling Green University in Ohio, then moved to Kalamazoo, MI, spending 16 years, the remainder of her teaching career, at Western Michigan University. While at UNC in 1948, Dr. McCuskey was recruited to go to Korea as part of a group of curriculum experts to advise the government of Korea in the development of their educational curriculum. While in Korea, Dr. McCuskey's interpreter was Han Kyo Kim. After the Korean War, Dr. McCuskey was instrumental in bringing Han Kyo and his wife, On Ja Kim, to the US and became close friends with them. Han Kyo attained full professorship and taught Political Science at the University of Cincinnati. On Ja, the first woman to obtain a medical degree in Korea, practiced medicine, specializing in Pathology. Their daughters, Dorothy and Annette, graduated from Harvard and have careers in law and medicine, respectively. Dr. McCuskey continued to lead an interesting and stimulating life after retirement to Carolina Meadows in 1985. She started and remained active in the Meet the Author book discussion group, an outstanding monthly program that continues to be one of the most successful and popular programs ever offered to Carolina Meadows residents. A memorial service was held in Chapel Hill on January 6, 2002, in honor of her life and achievements.

Gretchen N. Grisez
Gretchen N. Grisez, 84, of Alliance, died on Saturday, January 26, 2002, at the Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa, Arizona. Born in Alliance on November 25, 1917, she had lived in the Alliance area for all of her life. Mrs. Grisez was a Registered Nurse and had been employed for many years at the Alliance Community Hospital. She had been a Surgical Nurse and a Nurse Anesthetist in the OB Ward. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she was an auxiliary member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 558. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Colette and Thomas Schillig of Alliance; son and daughter-in-law, David and Carol Grisez of Gilbert, AZ; granddaughter and her spouse, Lisa Bowe, PE and Loren Bowe, PE, of Tempe, AZ; granddaughter and spouse, Duane and Michele Grisez Redmond, PhD., of Gilbert, AZ; granddaughter, Jenine Grisez of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter, Laura Schillig of Columbus, Oh; grandson, Brian Schillig, D.V.M., of Sheffield Lake, Oh; great-grandsons, Ethan Bowe and Ryan Redmond; three nieces and two nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles E. and Janet (Cargill) Newton; her husband, Basil Grisez on July 20, 1978, (whom she married on March 7,1941; and a sister, Wanda Kurlinski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday at 11:00 a. m. with the Rev. Donald L. Feicht as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Harry R. Ploch
Harry R. Ploch, age 66, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday morning January 29, 2002, in his home following a brief illness. He was born May 5, 1935, in Danville, PA, to the late Harry and Ruth (Renner) Ploch. Mr. Ploch retired from Ohio Power after 33 years of service. He was a Navy Veteran. Graduate of McKinley High School. Member of the Louisville Eagles #2374 and the Retirees of Ohio Power. Survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia (Tucke); two daughters and a son-in-law, Loretta Anthony and Dawn and Terry Brooks all of Canton; one stepdaughter, Debra and Denny Haddock of Carrollton; stepson, Daryl Schwarze of Canton; one sister, Jackie Stoffer; one brother, Robert Ploch, both of Canton; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Mahoney. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Stier-Israel Funeral Home, Louisville with Rev. John Bertsch officiating. Herman Ellsworth Kerr, II, age 59, died Sunday. An accountant, he was a member of Greentown United Methodist Church. Survived by wife of 41 years, Marylou (Dayton) Kerr of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and John Zaegel of Greentown, Kathy and Richard Walters of Louisville; sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Melissa of North Canton, Michael and Shari of Canton, and Bradley and Christine of Louisville; son, Christopher of Canton; daughter, Karissa Kerr of Urbana, Virginia; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Richard) Spring, Richard Walters, Jr., Travis, Joshua, and Zachary Kerr, Allison Pollard, and Andrew Kerr; sister, Susan Barker of North Canton; three nephews; and four nieces. Jeffery L. Craddock
Jeffery L. Craddock, age 42, of Louisville, OH, passed away Tuesday afternoon in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Cambridge, OH, on September 22, 1959, he was a 1978 graduate of Ravenna High School and a graduate of the Ohio Valley College in Parkersburg, WV, receiving his B.A. Degree in Bible. He currently was employed the Carroll Co. Juvenile Court Systems, as Court Administrator, for Judge John Weyand. Jeff had served as the former Music Director for First Christian Church of Canton and also had served as Minister for Churches of Christ in California and Ohio. He was a member of the West Akron Church of Christ and his hobby and interest was playing and coaching softball and he was a member of the Umpire's Association of Canton. Survivors include four children, David and Debbie Craddock of Alliance, OH, and Daniel Craddock and Jennifer Ring of Louisville, OH; his parents, Bill and Vee Craddock formerly of Stark County and more recently residing in Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two brothers, Mark Craddock of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Scott Craddock of Canton and his fiancee', Sarah Lyons of North Canton. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the First Christian Church of Canton, 2600 Cleveland Ave. NW with Minister Manley Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. John H. Hamsher
John Henry Hamsher, 81, of Dover, died Tuesday with his family by his side. Originally from the Sugarcreek area, he later owned a farm in Winfield and then worked at Greer Steel in Dover until retirement in 1985. His wife, Edith, survives him along with four children, Karen (Paul) Townsend of Parkersburg, WV, Beverly Hamsher of Canton, Kevin Hamsher of Dover and Joel (Teri) Hamsher of Akron; four grandchildren; ten brothers and sisters. A member of the greatest generation, he was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army at T/5 in the 231st AAA Search Light Battalion Battery A in Panama for two years and the European Theater for 18 months. He was in four major campaigns earning four bronze battle stars. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the First Moravian Churchat Dover. Interment in the Dover Burial Park where military graveside services will be held. John L. Finnicum
John Lloyd Finnicum, age 86, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday evening the Altercare of Canton following an extended illness. Born in Canton on August 1, 1915 he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a retired employee of Canton Malleable Iron, retiring in 1972 after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Canton Second Wesleyan Methodist Church and had served as the Sunday School Treasurer for the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cynthia Finnicum; a sister, Edna Ruth Finnicum and his wife, Dorothy I. Finnicum, who passed away October 17, 1994. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Janet Kimball of West Hartford, CT, Velma and Kerry King of Fairview Park, OH, Joan and Charles Cordes of Canton and Nancy and Robert Yackey of Canton; his sister and brother-in-law, Mabel and Donald Hilliard of Richmond, OH; his brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Joseph and Rev. Alberta Finnicum of Tallmadge, OH; five grandchildren and their spouses, Michele and David Schlapfer, Barry and Pam Kimball, Aaron and Michele King, Andrew King and Charles and Amy Cordes; one great-grandson, Jacob Schlapfer. Kenneth A. Little
Kenneth A. Little age 81, of N. Canton, died Monday in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. A life resident of the Canton-North Canton area. He was the owner of McKinley Air Transport from 1948 to 1978. He was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran, having flown 86 missions in the China-India Theatre. Ken was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in N. Canton, and a former member of E.C.O.P.A. and the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club. Survived by his wife, Helen L. Little; daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Tom Emmons of N. Canton; a son and daughter-in-law, Dana M. and Nancy Little of Greentown; four grandchildren, Kristen Emmons of Chicago, IL., Heather Boecker and her husband, Cory of Ft. Jennings, OH., Nicole and Beth Little of Greentown; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and Stephan Furiga, Pauline and Donald Colaner all of Massillon; and a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Marilyn Little of Springfield, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church in N. Canton with Msgr. Jay Clarke as celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Lorraine E. Kozee
Lorraine E. (Kemp) Kozee, age 76, of Canton, died Monday evening in Aultman Hospital. Her death followed a lengthy illness. She was born in Massillon on July 8, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Otto and Lula (Smith) Kemp. She was an area resident for most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kozee in 1982; her son, Daryl Kemp in 2000; and two sisters; and one brother. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Wayt of the home; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. Friends may call at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home on Friday one hour before services. Her cremations will be interred in Brookfield Cemetery.
Margaret I. Miller
Margaret I. Miller, age 80, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Aultman Hospital. She was born in Oneida, OH, Aug. 11, 1921, to the late John and Margaret (Mills) Reed. She was retired from Ekco Products of Canton and was a member of the Paradise United Church of Christ in Louisville. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil First, in 1961 and her second husband, Marion Miller, in 1985; a son, Thomas First, in 1966. She is survived by two stepsons, David Miller of California and Will Miller of Massillon; four grandchildren, one of which is Tom First of Louisville; three great-grandchildren. Services will be 3 p.m. Friday in the Stier-Israel Funeral Home of Louisville with Rev. John Bertsch officiating. Friends may call one hour before services at the funeral home. Pamela J. (Kendrick) Blackburn, age 49, of Kensington, OH, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon in Mercy Medical Center. Born December 21, 1953 in Canton, she was a licensed beautician having worked in Canton for over 25 years. Pam loved landscaping and her flower gardens. Preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn Sparks. Survivors include her husband, Harry of the home; one daughter, Kaitlyn of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Tonya Kendrick of East Rochester and one grandson, Benner Kendrick; two brothers and sister-in-law, Rick and Rhonda Sparks and Jim Sparks, all of Canton; her extended family the Wymer's and her forever friend, Shelley. Paul H. Anthony, age 65, of Canton, died January 14, 2002 in his home. Mr. Anthony was born on November 5, 1936 and was a U.S. Army veteran. Terry A. Hinkle
Terry A. Hinkle, age 55, of Louisville, loving husband, father and brother, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 28, 2002 in Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. Terry was born July 24, 1946 in Barnesville, OH, to the late, Theodore and Betty (Castello) Hinkle. He was a former Marine Corps Veteran serving in Vietnam and the recipient of the Purple Heart. Terry was a former construction worker for Louis Petros Construction. He attended Crystal Park Wesleyan Methodist Church in Canton. Terry was an avid football and baseball fan who spent many years coaching in the Louisville Hot Stove and GABF baseball leagues. Terry will be sadly missed and Louisville baseball has truly lost a good friend. Terry leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Karol (Mayle) whom he married March 5, 1983; two daughters, Patricia Moore of Leairttsburg, OH, and Rebecca Hinkle of Carrollton; three sons, Terry Allen Hinkle, Jr. of Canton, Huston Hinkle of Louisville and Heath Adam Hinkle of Louisville; five sisters, Linda Teague of North Carolina, Janice Brown of Massillon, Tina Hinkle of Canton, Paula Hinkle of Canton and Mildred Dexter of North Carolina; three brothers, Jeff Hinkle of Canton, Theodore Hinkle, Jr. of South Carolina and Danny Humphrey of Canton; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a brother, Rex Hinkle. Funeral services for Terry will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Crystal Park Wesleyan Methodist Church with Rev. Earl Fields and Rev. Virginia Sharp
Virginia Ginny Sharp, age 81, of Carrollton, formerly of Scio died Tuesday, January 29, 2002 in Hennis Care Center at Dover after an extended illness. She was born March 19, 1920 in Jewett, daughter of the late Asa D. and Effie M. Heidy Kail. Ginny was a member of the Carrollton First Presbyterian Church. She had owned and operated Ginny's Beauty Shop in Scio for 40 years before moving to Carrollton in 1985. She had served as an advisor for the Young Farmers Wives for many years. Her husband, Lloyd Sharp, to whom she was married on June 30, 1947 preceded her in death on April 30, 1987. A brother, Harry Kail and sister, Elizabeth Anderson are also deceased. She is survived by one sister, Betty Cogan of Kilgore; several nieces and nephews including Terry and Phill Rutledge of Carrollton, Victor and Laurie Cogan of Amherst, Louise Walton of New Philadelphia, Charles and Deana Kail of Carrollton, Mark and Beverly Kail of Tampa, FL; several grand and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. Jack Lumley officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery at Carrollton. Wesley McCoury, Jr.
Wesley McCoury, Jr., age 82, of Mineral City, passed away Tuesday afternoon in Morning View Care Center in New Philadelphia after an extended illness. He was born in Newland, NC, a son of the late Wesley and Belle Thompson McCoury, Sr. and had been a Mineral City resident since 1971, previously residing in Canton. He retired in 1973 from Hercules Engines in Canton, after 30 years service, where he worked on the block line. Mr. McCoury served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was an avid golfer and bowler. Preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Revonda McCoury, on May 16, 1991. Survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Margaret McCoury, of West Lafayette, OH, Linda and Kenneth Ross and Nagatha Kienzle, of Mineral City, and Judith and Robert Williams, of Zoarville; three sons, Joseph and Daniel McCoury of Mineral City, Roger McCoury, of New Philadelphia; three sisters, Mrs. Les (Athonie) Davis, of Cleveland, Wilma Blevins and Dorothy Norman, both of Canton; and eight grandchildren. William Fehn
William Fehn, age 75, of Paris, OH, died Monday in The Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Son of the late John and Mary (Hennel) Fehn. He was a Paris area resident for the past 20 years prior to which he was a life resident of the Canton area. Retired owner/operator of Bill Fehn Construction. He was a World War II Army Veteran. He is also preceded in death by one stepson, James Bourquin; three brothers, John, Joe and Lewis Fehn; two sisters, Mary Hentsch and Catherine Fehn; and one infant sister. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Stewart) Fehn to whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on Dec. 31, 2001; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Linda and Donald Pribula of Canton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Weaver of Canton; numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Fr. William Shipe as celebrant. Interment in Northlawn Cemetery.
