Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Massillon, OH. Calling hours at the funeral home Tuesday 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.

Catherine R. Nylund
Catherine R. Nylund, 93, of New Philadelphia, died in her home Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001. She married Sigurd Emil Nylund in 1925. He preceded her in death in 1979. Survived by daughters, Mary (Jack) Malone of Las Vegas, NV, Emily Dietz of New Philadelphia and estranged daughter, Elizabeth Hothem of Stone Creek, OH; grandchildren, James (Michelle) Hothem, estranged grandson, David (Becky) Hothem-Nylund; Kathy (Mike) Watts, Becky (Mark) Watts, Patty (Joe) Stillion, Emily (Dave) Whiting and Eric (Tammy) Dietz; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sarah Iannello of West Lafayette, OH. Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2001 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. The funeral mass will be Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Dover. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, a reception will be given in the Geib Family Center. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. Third St., Dover, OH 44622.

Charles B. Wagner
Charles B. Wagner, 87, of Canton, OH, formerly of Johnstown, died Nov. 24, 2001, at Canton Christian Home. Born March 15, 1914, in Ferndale, son of Howard and Matilda (Brubaker) Wagner. Preceded in death by parents, brother, Eugene, and sister, Helen Myers. Survived by wife, former Alice M. Bowman, Canton. Also survived by daughters, Janet Alice Carter, Lexington, KY, and Bethel Gilbert, Boston; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Retired chemist for Koppers Company, Pittsburgh. Member of First Christian Church, Canton. Graduate of Bethany College and West Virginia University, with a master's degree in chemistry. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Canton Christian Home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 9, at George E. Mason Funeral Home Inc., Davidsville, the Rev. Dr. Robert N. Abarno officiating. Interment, Kaufman Cemetery.

Don Scott
Don Scott, age, 57, of Canton, died Sunday November 18, 2001 in Aultman Hospital. Born May 29, 1944 to Fred and Ella Scott. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Charles Anthony; sisters, Catherine Anthony and Francella Scott. He is survived by brother, Frederick (Bettie) Scott Jr; sister, Deborah Cole; many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours or public service. Rhoden Memorial Home was in charge of arrangements.

Doris Ann Orin
Doris Ann Orin, 64, of Minerva, died Monday, November 26, 2001, at the Great Trail Care Center in Minerva. Born in Robertsville, January 20, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Blanche (Wright) LeBeau. She was employed as an office manager at Cambridge Mills in Malvern, OH, and was a member of the Berean Bible Church in Minerva. In addition to her husband, William, whom she married April 14, 1956, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Becky Orin of Minerva; daughter, Cindy Jones of Minerva; grandchildren, Jason Orin of Louisville, Nichole Parks of Hanoverton, Matthew Orin, Lucas Jones, Danielle Jones, all of Minerva; great-grandchildren, Mercedes and Courtney Parks of Hanoverton; brothers, Charles LeBeau of Florida, Don LeBeau and Harley LeBeau of Malvern; sisters, Freda Hudson of Minerva, Janice DeMate of Robertsville, Karen Stahler of North Canton, Carol Baher of Kentucky, Linda Honabarger of Malvern and Cathy Ulman of Carrollton. A memorial service will be held at the Berean Bible Church at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2001, with Pastor Ted Fellows officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Florence Stofan, age 67, of 2701 Wyandot Dr., Dover, passed away on November 26, 2001 with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Stofan; and five daughters. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 28th from 6-9 p.m. Rosary will be at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 29, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. George A. P. Sandy
George A. P. Sandy, age 74, of North Benton, OH, passed away Sunday morning, November 25, 2001 in Green Meadows Nursing Home following an extended illness. Born in Fairmont, WV, August 11, 1927 to his parents the late, Lawrence H. and Bessie Sandy, he lived most of his life in the Canton area and was a retired employee of Akro, retiring in 1988 after 35 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy, Merchant Marines and the Army Reserve. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Denver, Walter and Gilbert; and his sister, Betty Sandy. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Sandy of the home to whom he was married 54 years; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Eugene Ferguson of North Benton, OH., Darleen and Robert Hoffman of Canton, OH., Cathy and Jerry Bergmeyer of Canton, OH; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Theresa Sandy of Canton, OH., Patrick and Laura Sandy of Alliance, OH; three sisters, Patty Armstrong, JoAnn Rogers and Linda Beatty. There are 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Quint Bryan officiating. Jack O. Horsley, Sr.
Jack O. Horsley, Sr., passed away Monday, November 26, 2001 at the Oaks Care Facility in Medina, OH. He had lived many years in Michigan, FL and Combermere, Ontario. Born on April 11, 1914 in Carter County, KY, the eldest son to the late Bruce and Etta (Potters) Horsley. He married Ruby Bucklew on June 25, 1937, in Canton, OH; she preceded him in death seven months ago on April 27, 2001. Jack spent 40 years in the steel industry, retiring as Vice President of Operations for McLouth Steel Corporation of Michigan. He was an innovator in oxygen process steelmaking and was the first superintendent of the procedures in North America. He served as a Board Member of the American Iron Steel Engineers. He was an original member of the Old Erie Lodge in Warren, OH; he was also a 50 year, 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Detroit Mausoleum Shrine. Besides his loving wife and parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy Green and Gladys Waller; four brothers, Wayne, Jim, Bruce and Curt. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack Jr., and Nancy Horsley of Newport, MI, Don Horsley of Tucson, AZ, Bob and Janet Horsley of Vienna, OH; one sister, Eliza Mae Meers of Canton, OH; one brother, Dean Horsley of Champion Hts., OH, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be at the Reed Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 28, from 12 Noon-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be at the funeral home Thursday 11 a.m. with Dr. Harold Henninger officiating. A joint memorial service for Jack and Ruby will be held Friday, November 30th at 1:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Trenton, MI. James Taylor
James Taylor, age 83, of Brewster, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001 in Massillon Community Hospital following a period of declining health. He was born in Brewster on June 5, 1918 to the late George and Pauline (Denosse) Taylor and had lived all of his life here. In 1980 he retired from the former Norfolk Western Railway in Brewster after 44 years of service. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of Brewster American Legion and the Brewster Historical Society. On Jan. 10,1950, he married Mary Alice Elsie Vittling, who died Jan. 5, 2000. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Linda) Cook of Massillon; three sons, Philip, Kevin, and Bryan Taylor, all of Brewster; six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Polly) Page of Brewster; two brothers, John and Jerry Taylor of Brewster. Preceded in death by a son, James; two sisters, Louise Jamison and Wanda Shilling; five brothers, William, Randall, George, Paul and Mark Taylor. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Spidell Funeral Home in Brewster with Rev. Allan D. Swinderman officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park in North Canton, where military services will be conducted. Lenora S. Hurdt
Lenora S. Hurdt, age 79, of Uniontown, OH, went Home to be with the Lord after a short illness Sunday, November 25, 2001, at her home. She was known as Mam-Ma to her beloved family. Born December 22, 1921, daughter of Clarence and Rose Umberger of Bluefield, WV. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Charlie; her parents and sister, Virginia. She is survived by her son, Chuck, daughter, Linda (Jerry) Gilbert of Cochranton, PA; grandchildren, Chris (Stacey) Hurdt, Mark (Cheryl) Gilbert, Mike (Glenna) Gilbert of Winchester, KY, Michelle Gilbert of Everglades City, FL; great-grandchildren, Micah, Jacob and McKenzie. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown, where funeral services will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. with Michael Gilbert officiating. Lois M. Reese
Lois M. Reese, age 90, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday morning, November 26, 2001 in the Canton Regency following an extended illness. Born in Canton, OH, September 19, 1911 to her parents the late David and Nellie Reese, she was an assistant secretary with Home Savings, retiring in 1976. Miss Reese was a member of the Church of the Savioir United Methodist and AARP. Survivors include her cousins and their spouses, David W. and Mary Reese, James T. and Wilma Reese, Lucille Baker, Lois Bonnenberger and Martha Bund. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. George Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Wednesday 12 Noon-1 p.m.

Mary Alice Fye
Mary Alice Fye, age 77, of Canton, passed away Monday morning, Nov. 26, 2001, in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, St. Joan of Arc Altar Rosary Society, promoter of Loyola of the Lake Retreat House and St. Joan of Arc Bereavement Society. She graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1945 and retired as an industrial nurse from LTV Steel in 1988. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph R. Welsh and her mother, Rose (Hagarman) Welsh; brothers, Joseph P. and Donald C. Welsh; her stepmother, Julia E. Welsh. She is survived by her husband of 54 years. Richard E. Fye Sr.; her children, Rebecca M. (Joseph) Bartolone of Massillon, Dennis R. Fye of Cleveland, Patrick J. (Janet) Fye of North Canton, Margaret R. (Phelphs) Wright of Petaluma, CA, Richard E. (Lynnmarie) Fye of Canton, Pauline A. (Harold) Dixon of Dickson, TN, Vincent C. (Diane) Fye of Canton, John W. Fye of Canton, Mary K. (Randy) Whitmer of Canton, Stephen L. (Jody) Fye of Canton and Charles E. (Martina) Fye of Charlotte, TN; her sister, Dolores Walpole of Canton; 28 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church with Msgr. Lawrence C. Fye as celebrant, Fr. Thomas P. Dyer as homilist and Fr. Vincent Hagarman, Fr. Mychajlo (Mike) Buryj, age 83, passed away Monday November 25, 2001 at the Country Lawn Nursing Home in Navarre. He was born May 18, 1918 in the Ukraine. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 making his home in Canton. Mike was employed by the Sugardale Provision Company (Fresh Mark Foods) until his retirement in 1980. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia in November 2000. Survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Peggy Buryj of Canton; a daughter and son-in-law, Annie and Roger VanNetta of Brooksville, FL; three grandchildren, Katrina Erickson of Ft. Myers, FL., Angela and James Sokol of North Canton, and Jesse Buryj of Canton; three great grandchildren; two brothers; and a sister, Joseph, Stephan and Anna Buryj and their families which all reside in the Ukraine. Rolland A. Schreffler
Rolland A. Schreffler, age 86 of Massillon, OH, passed away Sunday evening, November 25, 2001 in Majora Lane Care Center, Millersburg, OH, following an extended illness. Born in East Canton, OH, November 21, 1915 to his parents the late Albert and Dora (Pariso) Schreffler. He was a retired employee of Union Metal, retiring in 1967 after 42 years of service. Mr. Schreffler was a member of Minerva Eagles Lodge #2199. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Schreffler in 1981, two brothers, Arnold and Donald Schreffler and his sister, Bernice Hershey. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Edmond McGovern of Havelock, NC., Judy and Herbert Rhines of Canton, OH; Bonnie and Albert Bixler of Canton, OH; his son, Larry Schreffler of Akron, OH. There are 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also surviving. There will be no calling hours nor funeral service. At his request, his body will be cremated. The Reed Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth K. Rubel, age 78, of Canton, passed away Thanksgiving Day in Country Lawn Nursing Home. Born in Monroe Co., Ohio she is the daughter of the late Joseph and Jessie (Wyscarver) Wehr. Preceded in death by her husband, Milton Rubel; two sisters, Audrey Kirby and Helen Reed; one brother, Joseph Wehr. She is survived by two sisters, Lucille Casey of Cambridge, OH and Georgia Norman of Canton, OH; nieces and nephews and good friends, Jim and Flora Barnes According to her wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be Calais Cemetery, Calais, OH.

Thelma Klingaman Daghir
Thelma Klingaman Daghir, age 87, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001 in her home just short of her 88th birthday on Nov. 30th. As a 1930 graduate of McKinley High School, she won a French Scholarship to Oberlin College. She worked for Hercules Engine seven days a week through WW II translating French, Spanish and other languages. Further study of languages was achieved at Malone College and Kent State at the age of 65 years. A dedicated member of First Christian Church and Christian Women's Class for 78 years, and a member of the Canton Chapter D.A.R. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Gertrude Klingaman; her beloved sister and niece, Mildred and Marcia MacDonald. Survived by her much loved younger sister, Deloris Mitchell; beloved daughter, Eleanor Kear; nieces, Mrs. Delona Yohe, Mrs. Judith Doerschuk, Mrs. Jeanine Johnson; nephews, Robert and Harvey Mitchell. Also survived by her dear friends, Elizabeth Birney and Doris Glazner; and her two devoted pets, Honey and Bunny. Private services will be held and burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. William Stevenson, Sr.
William Bill Stevenson, Sr., age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at 3:54 p.m. in Aultman Hospital. He will be sadly missed by all. William was born on April 23, 1919, in Sunflower County, Baird, MS, to the late Erastus and Alma Stevenson. William retired from the Timken Co. in 1983, after 37 1/2 years of service. Preceded in death by his first wife, Eliza J. Stevenson, who passed away Feb. 20, 1983; infant son, Timothy Stevenson; parents; one brother. Bill was a faithful member of Greater Bethel Apostolic Church, participating in the Brotherhood and Choir, until his illness. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Janet Kirksey Stevenson of Massillon; three sons, William (Diana) Stevenson, Jr. of Canton, Tony T. William L. Gaylog, beloved husband and father, age 70, of Canton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, in the home. Lifetime resident of Canton, he was a retired employee of Diebold Inc. A treasurer of the Ohio Valley Chapter NAWCC, FOE McKinley Aerie #2370, the Mended Hearts of Canton, and Independent Order of the Foresters. Preceded in death by his father, William Gaylog; mother, Margaret (Kish) Gaylog Schweiker. Survived by his wife of 37 years, Veronica Gaylog; a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Ron Brown of Canton; two sons, William G. Gaylog of Florida and Robert W. Mrs. Voncile M. Dawkins, age 83, of 1514 St. Elmo Ave NE Canton, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 22, 2001 at her home following a long illness. She had lived in Canton for 57 years, she was a member of Mount Pleasant Church. She retired from Molly Stark. Preceded in death by her parents, Hubbard Magwood and Lovie Stevens; her husband, Phorzene Dawkins; her grandson, Charles E. Morris. She leaves to cherish her memory her only daughter, Mary L. Gates; two grandchildren, Linda Williams, Marshall Wallace, Jr.; five great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. Services to be held Thursday Nov. 29, 2001 at 1 p.m. from Rhoden Memorial Home, 729 Cherry Ave NE, Canton with calling hour 12 Noon-1 p.m. prior to services. Ray H. Thursby
Ray H. Thursby, age 84, of Massillon, OH, went home to his beloved Lord Monday, November 26, 2001 at Massillon Community Hospital following a two month illness. Born July 24, 1917 in Greensburg, OH, he was a son of Fay and Hazel Thursby. He retired from Hedrick Trucking in 1995. Mr. Thursday was a volunteer at Doctors Hospital. He was a long time member and former elder of Whipple Heights Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He is survived by daughter, Faye; and son-in-law, James Hedrick with whom he resided; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years. Mary in 1995; a son, Prentice (Pete) in 1981; and two brothers, Robert and Gene Thursby. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Whipple Heights Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 4900 12th St., NW, Canton with Rev. Todd Sovine officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Gardens in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home, 705 Raff Rd. NW, Canton, Tuesday (TODAY) 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Autism Society of Ohio c/o PCPD, 701 South Main St., Akron, OH 44311.
