Dr. Daniel Leo Foxman
Dr. Daniel Leo Foxman, age 85, of Keego Harbor, MI, passed away November 19, 2001. He was born in Cleveland and had been a WW II Veteran who served in the Red Arrow 32nd Division in the South Pacific. He was past commander of #361 American Legion, and past President of Red Arrow Club. Dr. Foxman was an Optometrist in Keego Harbor for over 45 years. He was a member of the Masons, Lion, Eagles Club, Jewish War Veterans, was a fellow inthe American Academy of Optometry, life member of Michigan Optometric Association, Past Officer of Keego Harbor Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Miriam (Freifield) Foxman of Keego Harbor; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel Michael Strickling; sons and daughters-in-law, Eric Pamela Foxman, Martin Alan Sheryl Foxman; 6 grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Eugene Judy Foxman. Funeral Services were held Tuesday 11:30 AM in the Ira Kaufman Chapel in Southfield, Michigan. Interment in Canton Hebrew Cemetery. Ethel I. Bishop
Ethel I. Bishop, age 98, of Terre Haute, IN, and formerly of Seville, Ohio and Akron, Ohio died Monday November 19, 2001. She was born February 5, 1903 in Guilford, IL to Fredrick and Idella (Nolan) Studer. At age 5, she moved with her family to Ohio and was raised in the SugarCreek/ Shanesville area. As a young girl, she was employed in a local retail mercantile store until her marriage on May 12, 1928 to the Rev. M. Glenn Bishop. She then became a full time homemaker, devoting her life to her family and the churches they served. Mrs. Bishop was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, Fred Studer, and sister, Detta Wingard. She is survived by her two sons, Loyal of Terre Haute, IN, and Roger and his wife, Barbara of Waverly, Iowa. Other survivors include six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She holds membership in the Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Seville, OH, the last parish her husband served before retiring in 1965. Funeral Services will be held Saturday Nov. 24th 11:00 AM in the St. Jacob Lutheran Church on State Street in North Canton. Final Resting Place is St. Jacob Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services in the church Saturday 10:00-11:00 AM. Memorials may be made to the Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Acme Road in Seville, or St. Jacob's Lutheran Church in North Canton.
Etta E. Prophet
Etta E. Prophet, age 69, of Canton, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2001, at home, following an extended illness. Born in Kenly, NC, on October 22, 1932, she was a homemaker, mother, grandmother. Etta had been a seamstress for several years at Bride's Choice. She enjoyed sewing for friends and family, doing crafts and was an avid reader. She was never found without a book. Active in the community, Etta was treasurer of the Jane Hunter Civic Club, where she held various leadership positions. Member of the Canton Garden Club and volunteer at the McKinley Science Museum. Her loving smile and caring touch will be forever remembered by her husband of 49 years, Dean Prophet; mother, Inez Breedlove of East Orange, NJ; her children, Deborah (Lonnie), Valerie (Ben) Gulley of Canton, Geoffrey of Houston, TX, Mark (Sheri), Ira, Edward, all of Canton, 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2001, at Brogdon Son Funeral Home, 1617 3rd St. N.E., Canton, OH 44704, with Rev. Ricky Brown officiating. Calling hours 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Friday, November 23, 2001, at the funeral home. Interment in Forest Hill cemetery. Family and friends will be received at 1412 Royal Ave. N.E., Canton, OH 44705. Ray L. Lawter
Ray L. Lawter, crossed over into the glory of eternity Saturday morning Nov. 17, following a heart attack at Joel Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg, OH. Ray was born Nov. 9, 1937 in North Kanova, OH, son of Raymond A. and Nora B. (Rice) Lawter. On July 19,1959, he married Judith A. (Van Sickle) Lawter. She survives. He graduated from South Zanesville High School and Ohio Dominican College in Columbus, OH. He began a long career in engineering beginning at Lime Material, Stewart-Glapatt and the Dura Corporation in Zanesville, OH. He also worked for Thermometer Cooperation in Springfield, OH. He spent 20 years at National Cash Register in Cambridge, OH and the past 15 years at The Hoover Co. in North Canton, OH as a Senior Design Engineer in Research and Development. Ray held 22 patents four of which are international and had several patents pending. Ray was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Massillon, The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio-Ebenezer Lodge Wooster, OH, Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Wooster Council #13, The Grand Chapter of Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Order of Eastern Star, Wooster Chapter #270, Wooster, OH. Ray was also a member of the NRA and AARP. Former board member of Eastside Ministries in Zanesville, a former member of the Zanesville Civic Choir, Boy Scout troop leader and a former member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Zanesville. He also served as a former Board member of the Lynn-Hope Industries in Millersburg, and was a former member of IEEE. Ray was a loving husband, friend, and companion, devoted father of, Brian R. Lawter, Julie (Lawter) Kuhn and husband Rick Kuhn; adored Opa of, Janelle D. Kuhn, Jessica R. Kuhn and Benjiman H. Lawter; and a special Opa to Mitch and Matthew Kuhn, Tracy Jenkins, Amy Wagner, and Allison Wist; also surviving are brothers, John H. and Judy Lawter of Zanesville, David T. Lawter of Columbus, Robert H. and Linda Lawter of North Carolina; a sister, Joyce Whetzel of North Carolina. Ray is also survived by special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Pat Van Sickle of Merit Island, FL, Richard and Mary Van Sickle of Londonville, Patricia and Kenneth Stephan of West Lafayette, Charles R. and Mary Van Sickle of Wooster, Sandy and Mickey Schmid of Berlin, Linda and Bob Boyd of Kidron, Lydia and Walter Ramseyer of Millersburg; also surviving are many special nieces, nephews, and loving family and friends. A celebration of his life with calling hours, will be held Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home, 8612 St. Rt. 39 West in Millersburg, OH. Masonic Rites will be held prior to calling hours at 5:45 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the services at the church. Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 187 South Clay St., Millersburg, OH with the Rev. John Wanamaker officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church for the Glory and Honor of God in Ray's memory to the charity of choice.

Sue G. Spencer
Sue G. Spencer, age 90, of Canton, died Sunday in the Bethany Nursing Home. Born in Vandergrift, PA., she had been a Canton resident most of her life. She was the widow of Ralph K. Spencer Jr. who died in 1995. Survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Susan Mitchell, Chryse and Raymond Thomas all of Valdosta, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph K. III and Janet Spencer of Littleton, CO., and Gordon J. and Bertica Spencer of New York City; five grandchildren, Jordan, Brooke and Spencer Thomas all of Valdosta, GA., Caitlin Spencer of New York City, and Hanna Spencer of Littleton, CO; a sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Edward Bambeck; and a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Mabel Gusky all of Canton. Services will be private. Friends may call Friday from 3-5 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Aultman Hospice.
