Mary Louise Abell
Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Abell, 72, of Galena, died on Wednesday (April 17, 2002) at her home.
She was born on August 14, 1929, in Sandusky to Allen and Marguerite Wilhelm. A 1947 graduate of Bellevue High School, she recevied her bachelor of science in nursing from St. John's College, Cleveland, in 1951. Mary Lou was a volunteer with many charitable organizations in the local schools, community and churches over the years. An active member of U.S. Power Squadron Sea Gals Auxiliary, Sunbury Road Needle Club, Heart of Ohio Postcard Club, Ohio Historical Society, and Great Lakes Cruising Club, she was on the board of directors for the Big Walnut Historical Society to preserve several town buildings. She was a well-known authority and collector of 1920s postcards. Among her many interests were tennis, sailing the Great Lakes, egg decorating, and antique collecting.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Robert "Bob" Abell; four children and spouses, Kathleen and Michael Ishler of Santa Monica, Calif., Daniel and Gwyneth Abell of Westerville, Robert Abell of Grand Junction, Colo., and Roger Abell of Glouster; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Matthew Ishler; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Geraldine Wilhelm of Brookfield, Wis., and Andrew and Agnes Wilhelm of Centreville, Md.; and one sister, Margaret Werner of Bellevue.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Christian.
A memorial Mass was read at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 313 N. Main Street, Westerville, where the family will received friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Lou Abell Memorial Fund, 44 Burrer Drive, Sunbury 43074. A plaque will be placed in the Meyers Inn historical building in her honor.
Billy J. "B.J" Abbott
Billy J. "B.J." Abbott, 63, Centerburg, passed away Thursday (September 26, 2002) at his home.
Visitation was held at DeVore Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where funeral services followed.

Adrian Abolins
Adrian Abolins, 62, died Friday (May 14, 1999) at Mount Carmel West, Columbus.
He was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Riga, Latvia (near the Baltic Sea).
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. He moved to the Sunbury/Galena area in 1961 from Worthington. He retired after 38 years as advertising manager and master printer for Oasis Corp., Columbus.
He was past president and a 12-year member of Sunbury Village Council. He was former safety director and an auxiliary member of the Sunbury Police Department. He was a past master of Sparrow Lodge No. 400 F&AM, 32nd degree Mason Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus; a member of Aladdian Temple, Columbia Chapter OES No. 33; Woodworkers of Central Ohio; Ohio Big Bucks Club; the NRA; National Wild Turkey Federation; and Implant Management Association. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Gail (Warner); one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Paula Abolins, Obetz; one daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Carter Young, Westerville; his parents, Arturs and Maidi (Ginters) Abolins, Worthington; one son-in-law, Greg Hamm, Powell; six grandchildren, Brian, Staci and Ben Hamm, Joshua Abolins, and Matthew and Nicholas Young; three brothers, John, Columbus, Karl, Seattle, and Peter, Chico, Calif.; three sisters, Anita Hetrick and Zane Hall, both Westerville, and Ilze Abolins, Worthington; his mother-in-law, Janet Warner, Sunbury; a brother-in-law, Gary Warner, Worthington; 17 nieces and nephews; and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Hamm, in 1990.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were at Sunbury United Methodist Church with the Revs. David and Suzanne Hill officiating. Interment followed at Sunbury Memorial Park.

Traci Ann Adkins
Traci Ann Adkins, 16, died Tuesday evening (July 24, 2001) from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Born on February 18, 1985 in Westerville, Adkins would have been a junior at Big Walnut where she was a cheerleader. She was a gymnast with Columbus Gymnastic Academy and a member of St. John Neumann Church.
Traci enjoyed gymnastics, music, swimming, her dog Woody and her many special friends.
She is survived by her father, Dale W. Adkins of Sunbury; her mother and stepfather, Teri and Mike Franklin of Sunbury; a sister, Tera Adkins, a brother, Tyler Adkins; three stepsisters, Kirsten, Brittany and Jenica Franklin; her paternal grandmother, Maxine Adkins of Worthington; her maternal grandparents, Pat and Katie Delaney of Westerville; her step-grandparents, Marge and Larry Lyons of Westerville; her aunts and uncles, Kathy Stewart, Karen (Vince) Golden, Roy (Marsha) Adkins, Polly (Jim) McGee, Ossie Adkins Jr., Bill (Cindi) Lisk, Lori Dustin, Kathleen (Ted) Georges, Kristy (Pat) O'Neal, J.P., Tom (Becky), Kyle (Lisa) Delaney) and by numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ossie Adkins.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were held at Genoa Baptist Church with Father James Walter and Pastor Wayne Booth officiating. Interment was in Sunbury Memorial Park.

Thelma Abrams
Thelma Abrams, 90, Columbus, formerly of Sunbury, died Monday evening (May 21, 2001) at Doctors West Hospital, Columbus.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1911, in Burnwell, W. Va., to the late William and Bessie (Stewart) Johnson. In 1951, she moved from Ashland, Ky., to Columbus, and lived in Sunbury from 1989 until 1999, when she moved back to Columbus. She retired in 1980 as a presser for Schottenstein's and Swan Cleaners, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Ashland, Kentucky.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Abrams, in 1951; and a brother, Raymond Johnson.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and George E. Haney of Columbus; four grandchildren, Dianna Shellhorn, Robert E. Haney, Rebecca Shuirr, and Vickie Amirault; three great-grandchildren, Lisa Campbell, Norman Haney, and Ian Clay Shuirr; a great-great-grandson, J.R. Fling; and a brother, Kenneth Johnson.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held with the Rev. Mike Mounts officiating. Interment was in Northlawn Cemetery, Westerville.

Jack Achmoody
John A. (Jack) Achmoody, 84, formerly of Sunbury and Natrona Heights, Pa., died Saturday (May 29, 1999) at Riverside Hospital.
He was retired from "Valley News Dispatch" in Tarentum, Pa. He was a member of the International Typographical Union and Sunbury Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John Edward and Judy Achmoody, Pennsylvania, and James Bruce and Carol Achmoody, Columbus; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Robert S. Whitmore, Ostrander; a sister, Grace Conners of Auburn, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Abigail Achmoody; and a granddaughter, Melissa Jane Logan.
Calling hours were at Moreland Funeral Home, Westerville. Funeral services were also held with the Rev. Harold Holmes officiated. Interment was at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, Pa.
Charles Ackerman
Charles Ackerman, 83, of Sunbury died Sunday afternoon (June 20, 1999) in Manor Care Health Center, Westerville.
Graveside memorial services will were held in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. There will be no visitation.
The family is being served by the Skillman-McDonald Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg.
Clyde Adams Sr.
Clyde Adams Sr., 69, Marengo, died Wednesday evening (October 17, 2001) at his residence.
He was born in Jeremiah, Kentucky, on January 1, 1932, to the late Melvin and Pearl (Young) Adams. He was employed by Ranco in Delaware, for 29 years and retired in 1997. A veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, he moved to Marengo from Kentucky in 1969.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Blair Adams on December 2, 1999; and two brothers, Dennis and Leon.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde Jr. and Ann Adams of Ashley and Jeff and Jill Adams of Fredericktown; his grandchildren, Andrew, Kevin, and Kara; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Curt and Doylene of Jeremiah, Kentucky, Melvin and Maise of Louisville, Kentucky, and Andrew and Sandy of Corbin, Kentucky.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where funeral services were held with Pastor Roland Edwards officiating.
Interment followed with military honors in Bloomfield Cemetery.

Earl Adams
Earl Lee Adams, 58, of Columbus, died May 15, 2002, following a brief illness with cancer.
He was born on May 13, 1944, to the late Isaac Adams and Virginia Marie Hale Adams of Sunbury. Earl enjoyed being with his family and friends and working with flowers. He attended Big Walnut schools and was a bookkeeper for 13 years at a candy and tobacco store in Columbus.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Irene Silcox of Humboldt, Tenn., Patty Price of Delaware, and Penny and Roger Smith and Roxanne and Jerry Semon, all of Sunbury; and very dear friends Robert Motley of Columbus and Bill and Renate Leedom of Burlington, N.C.
His funeral was held and arrangements were in the care of DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home.
Glada Pearl Adams
Glada Pearl Adams, 91, Logan, died Monday (January 15, 2001) in the Logan Health Care Center. She was the widow of Glenn H. Adams.
Surviving are her sons, Daniel (Deanna) Hahn of Belpre, Ronald R. Hahn of Logan and Dennis J. (Kathey) Henderson of Logan; step-sons Eugene (Kathelene) Adams of Columbus, Wendell (Dorothy) Adams of Columbus, George (Virginia) Adams of Delaware and James (Donna) Adams of Sunbury; step-daughter Lorna (Richard) Clark of Pataskala; 22 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Calling was at O.R. Woodyard Co, Chapel, 1346 South High Street, Columbus where services will be held with the Rev. Daniel Thoma officiating. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
James E. "Roach" Adams
James E. "Roach" Adams, 44, Delaware, died unexpectedly Monday (August 20, 2001) at his home.
He was born on April 27, 1957 in Columbus to the late Herman Adams Sr. and Barbara A. Burdette Adams. Jim graduated in 1975 from Johnstown High School. He was a 14-year resident of Delaware, moving to Delaware County in 1975 from Licking County.
Adams worked the sales counter at Rusk Brothers Auto Recycling of Ashley for 26 years. He was a member of the NRA, a notary public and enjoyed NASCAR races as well as hunting. He was a friend to everyone, always free and willing to lend a helping hand and was the light of his family. Jim enjoyed carpentry, especially building bird houses.
He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Barb Atkin Adams; a son, Matthew Adams of Delaware; a daughter, Mallory Adams of Delaware; two brothers, Herman Adams Jr. and John Matthew Adams, both of Delaware; three sisters, Sharon (Ed) Cyrus of Laurens, South Carolina, Violet (Dick) Carpenter of Galena and Jeannie (Al) Harriett of Sunbury; nieces; nephews; and a host of friends.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Delaware, where funeral services will be held with the Pastor Billie White officiating. Burial will follow in Sunbury Memorial Park.

Loretta Adams
Loretta Adams, 64, Marengo, died Thursday (Dec. 2, 1999) at Knox Community Hospital, Mount Vernon.
She was born in Jeremiah, Ky., on Feb. 21, 1935, to the late Bennie and Belva (Watts) Blair.
She was a member of Enterprise Baptist Church and the Tri-County Craft Club.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Clyde Adams Sr., whom she married on Dec. 3, 1952; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde Jr. and Ann, Delaware, and Jeff and Jill, Fredericktown; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lillie and Hattie Blair, Jeremiah, Ky., Ben and Mattie Blair, Whitesburg, Ky., and Lincoln and Mary Jo Blair, Jeremiah, Ky.; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Della Blair and Arizona and Evangene Adams, Jeremiah, Ky.; and three grandchildren.

Robert T. Adams Sr.
Robert "Ted" Adams Sr., 54, Marengo, died suddenly Tuesday (Feb. 15, 2000) at Mount Carmel East Hospital.
He was born in Fort Meyers, Fla., on Feb. 14, 1946 to the late Theodore R. Adams and Effie (Stiffler) Thompson.
He had lived in the Marengo area for 10 years coming from Columbus. He was a retired chief engineer with the Galbreath Co. in Columbus, retiring in 1992.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marguerite (Brewster) Adams; a son, Robert T. Adams Jr., at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and David Lowe, Cardington; his mother Effie Thompson, Marengo; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Bill and Karen Adams, Symrna, Ga., John Quincy Adams of Georgia and Tom and Shirley Thompson and Jerry Thompson, all of Columbus; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bertha Brown, Jackson, Mary and Harold Chase, Johnstown, and Carol and Charles Morris and Lou Anne Thompson, all of Columbus; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Joann Thompson; and his stepfather, Lewis W. Thompson.

Amanda Lynn "Mandy" Adkins
Amanda Lynn "Mandy" Adkins, 22, Galena, died at her home Saturday evening following a courageous battle against brain cancer.
Adkins was born on Nov. 14, 1978 in Columbus to Darrel and Phyllis (Doane) Adkins of Galena. She was a 1997 graduate of the Olentangy High School where she was active in cheerleading, track and choir. She attended Columbus State University and was a dental assistant. She was also a volunteer at Grady Memorial Hospital, Delaware.
In addition to her parents, Adkins is survived by a sister and brother-in-law Tami (Brian) Lee of Galena; grandparents Raymond and Tina Doane of Sunbury and Opal Adkins of Morehead, Ky.; nephews Austin and Colton; aunts and uncles Joyce and Phil Link, Charlene and Gary Sullivan, Sharon Edwards, Paul and Jo Adkins; Glaspie Jennings, Madison and Theresa Adkins, Michael and Cathy Adkins; and many loving cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather Beecher Adkins.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held with Minister John Tewell and Pastor Frank Carl officiating. Interment was at Cheshire Cemetery.

Gene Adkins
Gene M. Adkins, 15, Marengo, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening (October 23, 2001) from injuries received in an automobile accident in Delaware County.
Born on December 22, 1985, in Westerville, he was a sophomore at Highland High School and member of the Class of 2004. He was a member of the Highland football team, basketball team, baseball team, student council, and junior ROTC program. He enjoyed sports and was a member of Sacred Hearts Church.
Surviving are his parents, Calvin and Lori Barton Pierce of Marengo; two sisters, Shayla Pierce and Jessica Adkins; his grandparents, Eugene and Janet Adkins of Fredericktown, Marion Barton of Chesterville, and Sandy Smith of St. Louis, Missouri; his aunts and uncles, Lisa and Mike Keen, Lori and Lloyd Coleman, Lana and Jon Rogers, Mike and Nancy Barton, Pat Barton, Emily and Jeff Sparks, Tim and Brandy Barton, Rachael Barton, Tammy McDowel, and Kevin and Brent Pierce; cousins Gar and Abby Keen, Loren, Leslie, and Lindsay Coleman, Justin and Paige Rogers, Zachary Barton, P.J. Barton, Krysta and Haylee Sparks, Cole and Chloe Barton, Jessica McDowel and Zane Pierce.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael E. Adkins, who passed away in 1986; a grandmother, Irene Barton; cousin, Nicholas Barton; and great-grandparents Emmet and Ina Adkins, Merle and Dorothea Burch, Charles and Frances Lang, and Lory and Mary Barton.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Sacred Hearts Church, Cardington, with Father Charles Foeller officiating. Interment was in Marengo Cemetery.

Margaret Adkins
Margaret E. "Granny" Adkins, 83, of Center Village, died Tuesday (July 23, 2002) at Heartland of Fairfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert W. Adkins; a son, Dick Adkins; and a granddaughter, Teresa Gemperline.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bob and Joyce Adkins and Jim Adkins, all of Galena; two daughters and a son-in-law, Pat Jewett of Sunbury and Jane and Richard Godby of Thornville; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at Moreland Funeral Home, where funeral services were held with the Reverend Darren Edgington officiating. Interment was in Sunbury Memorial Park.

William Agler
Longtime educator and former Buckeye Valley High School Principal William H. Agler, 75, of Prospect, died Tuesday evening (June 1, 1999) at Marion General Hospital. He was also the father of former "Sunbury News" editor, Susan Wright.
He was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Harlem Township, to Jack Paul Agler and Rose A. (Chatfield) Agler.
Mr. Agler was a 1942 Harlem Township High School graduate. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, serving in Europe. In 1949, he graduated from Otterbein College with a degree in education. He later received a graduate degree in educational administration from Miami University.
He taught and coached at Waldo and Wilmington high schools. He was principal at Radnor and Buckeye Valley high schools, Prospect Elementary School and Elgin Junior High. He was active in community and professional organizations. He served more than 25 years on the Prospect Park Board and oversaw park operations for several years. He was elected to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Central District Board and served on the association's State Board of Control. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, Prospect Lions Club and the Harlem Boys Breakfast Club.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jim Wright, Delaware; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Robin Agler, Chanhannsen, Minn., and Brent and Carole Agler, Marion; seven grandchildren, Wes, Whitney and Will Wright, and Bryce, Taylor, Madeline and Andrew Agler; a sister, Eula Jean Radikin, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Hamer Agler; and three sisters, Barbara Detrick, Mary Spitzer and Martha Edwards.

Charles D. Aisel
Charles D. "Chuck" Aisel, 43, Fredericktown, died unexpectedly Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1999) at Knox Community Hospital.
He was born in Worthington on Nov. 22, 1955, to George and Theresa (Loney) Aisel, Columbus.
Formerly of Columbus, he lived in Galena of five years and moved to Fredericktown in 1989. He worked as a meat cutter/manager for Reinzetti's and a dockworker for The Limited. He enjoyed the mechanics of trucks, fishing, hunting and camping.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 20 years, Cindy (Fogle) Aisel; two sons, Shawn and Nick; one sister, Linda McClary, Columbus; and five brothers, Robert Aisel, Columbus, Ralph Aisel, Delaware, Karl Aisel, Johnsville, Harry Aisel, Columbus, and Mark Aisel, Westerville.

Mary Akers
Mary Lou Akers, 51, of Sunbury, died Saturday afternoon (July 25, 1998) at Riverside Methodist Hospitals.
She was born May 5, 1947 in Covington, Ky., to James R. and Berta L. (Hardin) Holland. She had been a Sunbury-area resident since 1978.
Mrs. Akers is survived by her husband, Dewey; a daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Darrin Crosby of Findlay; two grandchildren, Marissa and Mitchell Crosby; a brother, Ray Emmons of Lawton, Okla.; a sister, Diana Emmons of Sunbury; her mother and stepfather, Berta and Charles Shoemaker of Rardean; and her father and stepmother, Jim and Hazel Holland of Lincolnton, N.C. A son, Marcus, died in 1994 and she also was preceded in death by a sister, Betty.
Visiting hours were at Bennett-Brown Funeral Home, Delaware, where funeral services were held. Burial was at Sunset Gardens in Franklin Furnace.
Charles E. "Chuck" Allen
Charles E. "Chuck" Allen, 42, Centerburg, died Sunday evening (April 21, 2001) at The OSU Medical Center.
He was born in Columbus on October 24, 1958 to Austin and Shirley (Robinson) Allen of Centerburg. A graduate of Centerburg High School, class of 1977, Allen owned and operated Allen Brothers Painting and had formerly operated the Mount Vernon Dairy Queen, Allen's Pizza in Centerburg and A & B Pizza of Mount Vernon.
Allen was a member of the Centerburg Church of Christ. He loved his family and vacations to Florida.
In addition to his parents, Allen is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Celia "CeAnn" Olmsted Allen; a son, Austin C. Allen; a daughter, Aubrie A. Allen; two sisters, Jeri (Donald) Hall of Johnstown and Shawna Young of Centerburg; his mother-in-law, Roberta Olmsted of Mount Vernon; a sister-in-law, Linda (David) Chenault of Grove City; two brothers-in-law, Randy (Dianna) Olmsted of Fredericktown and Mitch (Roberta) Olmsted of Dayton; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Charles "Red" Olmsted, Jr.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Services were held at Centerburg Church of Christ with Evangelist Fred Albrecht and Pastor Roger Crego officiating. Interment in Eastview Cemetery, Centerburg.
