Anna Dubetz
Anna Dubetz, age 76, of Amsterdam, OH, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, in Select Specialty Hospital in Barberton Citizens Hospital, Barberton, following a lengthy illness. She was a member of the Amsterdam United Methodist Church. She was born in Clarksburg, WV, October 31, 1924, a daughter of the late George and Mary Bandurich Gubanez. She is also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Charles and Steve Gubanez; and one sister, Olga Plavka. She is survived by her husband, Mike, whom she married Feb. 15, 1947; one son, Michael W. and wife, Donna Dubetz of East Springfield; one daughter, Carol and husband, Ted Slates of North Canton; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Krystyna Dubetz; and two step-grandchildren, Lisa and Jason Slates; three brothers, Andy of Bergholz, Mike of Amsterdam and George of Stratford, CT; and one sister, Helen Rhome of Ft. Collins, CO. Friends may call at the Everhart Funeral Home, 287 Second St., Bergholz, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Donald Ebert officiating. Burial will follow in the Bergholz Cemetery.
Arthur W. Conley
Arthur W. Conley, age 88, a life resident of the Canton area, died Thursday in the Windsor Medical Center after an extended illness. Survived by his wife, Mary S. Conley; four daughters and their husbands, Nancy Conley, Penny and Jim Sturznickel, Ann and Wes Meinerding, and Patricia and David Wetmore; a brother, James A. Conley; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, William Arthur Conley; his parents, Michael and Flora Conley; two brothers, Richard and Norman Conley; a sister, Mary Winafeld. A private Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday in Little Flower Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Fete as celebrant. Entombment was in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. The Lamiell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Carl F. Scott
Carl F. Scott, age 85, of Canton, OH, passed away Sunday morning in the Canterbury Villa of Alliance following a brief illness. Born at Empire, OH, on June 1, 1916, he had lived the greater portion of his life in Canton. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and was a retired employee of Union Metal Mfg. in Canton. He was a member of the Empire Methodist Church, a lifelong member of the Eagles Lodge Aerie #2370, and a member of the Union Metal Retirees Golf League. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise B. Scott who passed away October 18, 1985, also by his parents, Clarence M. and Cora (Fisher) Scott; and three sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home prior to services on Thursday from 10-11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc.
Charles G. Parsons
Dr. Charles G. Parsons PhD, of Groton, MA, died at University of Massachusetts Memorial Center in Worcester, MA on June 12 as a result of a parachuting accident. He was born September 7, 1959 in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. He was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School. He received his BS in Physics from Kent State University, his Masters in Physics from Akron University, and his PhD in Nuclear Physics from M.I.T. Dr. Parsons worked as a physicist and was president of his company, Catenary Scientific Inc., of Groton, MA. He held numerous patents in XRS Technology. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Society for Testing and Materials, and the American Physical Society. He was a D License holder in the United States Parachute Association. He and his wife had lived in the Boston area for many years and in Groton for the past four years. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Ann (Rees), formerly of Maple Hts., OH; mother, Shirley (Barrett) Parsons Reiner of Florida; brother, Robert Parsons of Ohio; sisters, Stephanie Parsons of Ohio and Amy Parsons of Florida. His father, Robert Parsons is deceased. Friends will be received at the St. John Funeral Home, 923 Broadway Ave., Bedford, OH on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church, 300 Union St., Bedford on Thursday, June 21, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield, OH.
Cornelius Comsia
Cornelius Carl Comsia, age 77, of Minerva, died Monday, June 18, 2001 in Aultman Hospital following a short illness. He was born Sept. 22, 1923 in Pekin, OH, to Nicholas and Marina (Anghel) Comsia. He retired as Branch Manager of Bank One, Minerva, in 1997. He was a member of St. George Romanian Catholic Cathedral, Canton. Carl was a member of Minerva Rotary, Treasurer of the Salvation Army, Minerva Service Unit, was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of World War II and a member and Past Treasurer of the Minerva American Legion Post #357, member and past Treasurer of 40 and 8 in Carrollton, member of the Minerva VFW Post #4120. He graduate from Minerva High School Class of 1941, having served as Class Treasurer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veronice Bonnie Comsia who died April 21, 1974; a son, Michael Carl Comsia. He is survived by two sisters, Margaret Gascon of Minerva, Jennie Agnew of Alliance; a brother, Virgil Comsia of San Lorenzo, CA; companion and close friend, Martha Cogan; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery with full military honors. There are no formal calling hours, although the body will lie in state Wednesday 3-5 p.m. at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity.
Diann R. Rimer
Diann R. Rimer, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday, June 18. 2001 after a hard fought battle with Cancer. She was born April 13, 1945 and was a 1963 graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School. She lived in Uniontown, OH, for the past 25 years until recently moving to Canton. She and her husband, Bob had owned and operated Rimer's Sport Shop and for the past 15 years, Diann was the C.E.O. of the J. Brownberry Co., which was an appliqued sweatshirt company. Her sweatshirts designs brought smiles to many peoples' faces. Her caring personality will be missed by the many peoples lives she touched. Diann loved life and especially her family. Diann was preceded in death by her father and mother, Rocco and Pearl Lombardi. She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Robert; sons, Mark (Desirae), Scott (Beth), Todd Chip (Deborah), granddaughters, Alyssa, Abigail and Meghan; brother, Thomas (Sandy) Lombardi; stepmother, Martha Lombardi; and her special brother and sister-in-law, David and Bobbi Rimer of New Philadelphia; mother-in-law, Jayne Rimer of New Philadelphia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Cathy Rimer of New Philadelphia and Dick and Ginny Rimer of Dennison, OH; and a host of nieces and nephews. The Family will receive friends Thursday 5-8 p.m. at the Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown. Elizabeth Chicky
Elizabeth Chicky, age 89, of Gaffney, SC, formerly of Canton, passed away June 14, 2001 in her residence. Born in Bluefield, WV. She was a retired employee of Sugardale Foods. A former member of Calvin Presbyterian Church. Currently a member of Buford Street United Methodist Church in South Carolina. Preceded in death by her husband, Gabriel Chicky; two children, stepson, Gabriel and a daughter, Betty Kutcher. Survived by three sons, Elmer Chicky of South Carolina, Joseph Chicky of Michigan, Alex Chicky of Florida; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters, Annie Loosie, Mary Susko, both of Amherst, Barbara Gainok of California. Frederick Davis Sr.
Frederick Davis Sr., 80, of Canton, OH and a former Dover resident died Friday in Panama City, FL. He was a retired Electronics Technician for ODOT. He was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton and the Canton Eagles Lodge. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jennie and is survived by his wife, Norma Jo Davis. He is also survived by three children, Edward, Fred and Dorothy and three step-sons, Michael, David, and Paul Hambach. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 21, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover with interment in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Jennie R. Beucler
Jennie R. Beucler, age 95, of Mineral City, passed away Sunday evening in the residence after a lengthy illness. Born in Canton, a daughter of the late Louis and Louisa Baer Soehnlen, she had been a Mineral City resident since 1937. She was a Registered Nurse, graduating in 1931 from the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Youngstown, and she was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Mineral City. She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis J. Beucler, whom she married on Aug. 21, 1937; five sisters, Margaret and Anna Soehnlen, Pauline Guenther, Mary Dolores Seubert and Ruth Brunyansky; six brothers, Jacob, John, Peter, Robert, Thomas and Nicholas; one grandson. She is survived by four daughters and one son-in-law, Mrs. Frank (Mary Joan) Turner of Newbury Park, CA, Margaret Gursky of Mineral City, Genevieve Sisemore of Albuquerque, NM and Elizabeth Lisa Kornau of Cincinnati; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Louis Laddie Beucler of Dellroy, John Beucler of Hamilton, OH and Paul and Rebecca Beucler of Dover; four sisters, Theresa McCoy of West Salem, OH, Frances Soehnlen of Washington, DC, Louis Berg of Brewster, and Sister Mary Roselle, SND (Freda) of Chardon, OH; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a special friend of the family, Michael Ackerman. Joyce A. Brown, age 62, of Canton died unexpectedly Sunday at home. She was employed by Creative Electronics. Lester J. Fausnight, age 85, formerly of Louisville, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Wetumpka, Alabama, June 16, 2001. He had been an employee of Republic Steel and was a self-employed roofer for most of his adult life. Preceded in death by his son, Jeral; parents, Morgan and Jennie; brother, Ervin; sisters, Leona Fausnight, Edna Knight, Lottie Kingery. Lester is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn; his children, Leonard (Marie), Janet Capley, Rita (Bill) Geltz, Wayne (Charlene), Rickie (Linda), Donavon (Pat), LeeNita (Terry) Miller, Eudora (Mike) Halter, Bernadetta (Dudley) Willhoit, Debral (Bonnie), Kevin (Brenda), Rosella (Gary) Day, Gwenda (Oley) Williams; 45 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; brother, Homer Fausnight; sisters, Mabel Gonzalez, Clara Yoder and Catherine Reasoner. Mary Alice Nichelson
Mary Alice Nichelson, age 83, passed away June 17, 2001 at Manor Care Nursing Center. Born in Massillon, Ohio to the late Lucille Annen and Robert Fencetermaker. Mary Alice was retired from Timken Mercy Medical Center, and lived most of her life in Canton, Ohio. Reunited once again with her late husband of 64 years, John J. Nichelson, who passed away September 27, 2000. Also preceded in death were three children, James, Raymond and Judy Kay Nichelson, two sisters and a brother. Mary leaves to cherish her precious memories one daughter and three sons, Sue Samson and Jack Nichelson, both of Canton, Chuck Nichelson of Columbus and Mark Nichelson of Vero Beach, Florida. 13 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; two sisters of Canton and a brother of Indiana. Rickie Martin, went home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2001. Born on Dec. 5, 1933 to the late Benjamin and Florence Springer in Birmingham, AL. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Martin; brothers, William Butler, Marion and Charles Springer; sister, Barbara Sims; son, Donald Henley; stepson, Ricardo Martin. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Conray Henley, Royal (Valgean) Martin, Roy (Michele) Martin; daughter, Michelle Martin, all of Canton; brother-in-law, Enoch Sims and family Matriarch and dearest friend, Aunt Edith Zeigler, both of Birmingham, AL. She confessed her religion at an early age in Birmingham. In Canton, she became a member of Trinity Gospel Temple, where she worshiped in the choir until her health prevented. Rickie attended Immaculate High, Alabama State Teachers College, Daniel - Payne College, Alverson Business College, all of Birmingham, AL. After coming to Canton, she married Roy Martin and held several positions in Stark County; Stark Metropolitan Housing, working with seniors, St. Paul's Day Care as a Supervisor; Ohio State Extension as a nutrition aid, owner and operator of Martin's Confectionery and house manager for Siffrin Residential Services. Rickie was also associated several community and national organizations. A past member of the Yorkettes, and the American Business Women Association, member of the Green County Social Club and was Associate Conductress of the International FAMM. Order of Eastern Stars, Rebecca #224, serving as Chaplin for Johnnie Mabry District #3. Robert D. 'Dame' Wuertz
Robert D. 'Dame' Wuertz, age 95, of Perry Heights, passed away Sunday morning, Fathers' Day, June 17, 2001. Born in Canton, he played for the Canton Pro Bulldogs in the late ‘20s. Retired from The Timken Company in 1969 after 36 years of service. A member of St. Joan of Arc Parish. Preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Wuertz in 1978, whose birthday was also June 17th; sons, Don 'Sonny' Wuertz in 1996, and Robert 'Herm' Wuertz, Jr., killed in Vietnam in 1966; granddaughter, Jill Wuertz; four sisters and two brothers. Survived by a son and daughters-in-law, Jack and Debbie Wuertz of the home, Betty Wuertz of Canton; daughter, Lois Pentella of St. Louis, MO; seven granddaughters; great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Timothy J. Huffman on Tuesday (today) at St. Joan of Arc Church at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest in St. Peter's Cemetery. His body will lie in state one hour prior to the mass. Memorials may be made to St. Joan of Arc Parish School.

Sandra L. Miller, age 59, of Canton, passed away Monday morning June 18, 2001 in Aultman Hospital with her family by her side. She was born in Cleveland on October 10, 1941 to Herbert Louise (Romanoff) Chester. Sandy graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in elementary education. Most recently she worked in the Adult Literacy Program of the Canton City Schools at the Urban League. She was a member of Temple Israel and active in the Jewish
Community. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Chester and survived by her loving family, husband, Dr. Robert B. Miller; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth Allison Daniel Ringel of Canton, Janice Renee Edward C. Baig of New York, and Stephanie M. Steven Shane of Baltimore, MD; grandson, Joshua Laurence Ringel; father, Herbert Chester of Boca Raton, FL; sisters and brother-in-law, Karen Alan Barry of MI and Julie Welch of Toledo, OH; parents-in-law, Raymond Edna Miller of Canton; aunt and uncle, Alice Alex Saferin of Cleveland; sister-in-law and spouse, Charlotte Stanley Greenwald of Canton; brother-in-law and spouse, Jonathon Ilene Miller of GA; and faithful companion, Robespierre Ringel. Vadah E. Adkins, age 83, of Waynesburg, died Sunday morning in Aultman Hospital after a short illness. Born in Guernsey County, a daughter of the late Arthur and Bessie Briton Secrest, she had been a Waynesburg resident since 1941. Mrs. Adkins was a member of the Fellowship of the Little Country Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Estel Adkins, Sr., on May 4, 1992, two sisters, two brothers, a grandson and a granddaughter. Survived by one daughter, Barbara Adkins of Waynesburg; three sons and daughters-in-law, Estel and Joan Adkins, Jr. and James and Joan Adkins, all of Waynesburg, and Ron and Francis Adkins of Magnolia; two sisters and brother-in-law, Mrs. Wilbur (Dorothy) Frame of Senecaville and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert (Betty) Lyons of Zanesville; one brother, William Secrest of Zanesville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.
