Alberta Puddock
Alberta Puddock, age 69, of Navarre, OH, went home to be with the Lord, passing away Saturday evening in the Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Avery County, NC, on May 6, 1932, she had lived the greater portion of her life in the Canton area. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Lockie Ollis and also by two brothers, Leonard and Ford Ollis and a sister, Easter Riley. Survivors include her husband, Melvin J. Puddock of the home; her son, Melvin A. Puddock of New Philadelphia, OH; two daughters, Barbara Hoskinson of Massillon and Liz Carlson of Orlando, FL; two brothers, Lacy Ollis of Canton and Colonel Vance Ollis of Milwaukee, WI; a sister, Ruby Snyder of Newland, NC; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Howard officiating. Burial will be in the Massillon Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and one hour before the services at the church on Wednesday from 12-1 p.m.
Eben A. Peer II
Eben Arista Butch Peer II, age 60, of Louisville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 23, 2001, in Alliance Community Hospital while doing what he loved most -- serving others. Butch was born Feb. 13, 1941, in Canton to the late Eben Arista and Helen (Paumier) Peer. He was a graduate of Louisville High School class of 1959 and graduate of Muskingum College class of 1964. Butch was employed by the Republic Steel Corp. for 34 years as a steel conditioning supervisor. He was a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute. Most recently, Butch worked with his wife, Sandy, as a realtor for Prudential DeHoff Realtors and was a member of the Local, State and National Association of Realtors. He was a substitute teacher for the Louisville Public School System. Butch was a member of Alliance Country Club and the F.O.E. Louisville Aerie #2374. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville. He coached Little League Baseball, Little Leopards Football and was a Charter member of the Louisville Touchdown Club. Butch lead a full life devoted to serving others. His greatest joy and reward came from his efforts to shape and mold the lives of children through teaching and the activities of the Little Leopards organization, where he had been active for 41 years and served as the associations past president. Sandy and her family wish to offer their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all their friends and neighbors who have always been there when they have needed you. No words can express how much your friendship and support has meant over the years. You meant so much to Butch and he never wanted anything more out of life than to share it with you. Thank you. Butch leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Sandra (Norris) Peer; two daughters, Stephanni Ellenberger of Louisville and Kimberly Peer of Randolph; a son and daughter-in-law, Eben Arista and Theresa Peer III of Alliance; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cynthia Ann and Frank Kerchner of Louisville and Linda Kathryn and Gary Byers of Vernon Hills, IL; five grandchildren, Andrew Ellenberger, Stephen Ellenberger, Allison Peer, Eben Arista Peer IV and Olivia Peer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Monday (today) 4-7 p.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville. Elmer E. Ewers
Elmer E. Ewers, age 83, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Aultman Hospital. He was born Dec. 11, 1917, in New Matamoras, OH, to the late Raymond and Sylvia Ewers. Mr. Ewers was a retired electrician, working for the Pennsylvania/Conrail Railroad for 41 years. He was an Army World War II veteran, a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Louisville, the Friendship Sunday School Class, FOE #2374, the Orrville Railroad Heritage Society, an avid Louisville Leopard football fan, bowler and shuffler. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eleanor (Erizer) of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Lee Pugh of Virginia; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Susan Ewers of Westfield Center, OH; three grandchildren, Scott Ewers, Tricia Meredith and Matthew Pugh; three great-grandchildren, Griffin Ewers, Alyssa Ewers and Kylee Meredith. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Moses; one brother, Ottie Ewers; one granddaughter, Kristin Ewers. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Stier-Israel Funeral Home, Louisville, with Rev. Dr. Edward Beck and Rev. Larry Black officiating. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Sunset Hills Memory Garden, Canton, OH. Franklin E. Shankle
Franklin E. Shankle, age 80, passed away June 23, 2001, in Aultman Hospital with his family present following a long illness. He was born July 22, 1920, in New Bethlehem, PA, to his late parents Charles and Pauline Richards Shankle. Frank lived his entire life in Canton, graduating from Canton South High School. He was an aeriel photographer in the Army Air Corps during World War II. In the late 1940's he returned to Canton and worked for Waltz Photo as an aerial and commercial photographer. In 1971 he opened Shankle Photographics Inc. as a commercial, industrial photo studio. He retired in 1987. He is a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Meyers Lake Sportsman Club and VFW Post 3747. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 58 years, June (Palmer) Shankle; one son, Palmer (Caryl); three grandsons, Kevin, Todd, (Theresa), Dana, (Jennifer); four great-grandchildren, Jordanna, Brandon, Zachary, Nicholas; two sisters, Phyliss Oyster of Louisville, Harriet Douglas of Canton and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, Jay, Charles and Donald. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Christ United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Conley officiating. Burial in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 6-9 p.m. at the Schneeberger Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church. Genevieve 'Gene' Casler Hundhausen
Genevieve 'Gene' Casler Hundhausen, age 74, of Osceola, IN, died Saturday morning, June 23, 2001, in the Hospice House of St. Joseph's County in Osceola, IN. She was born July 8, 1926, in Chicago, IL, to Leon and Winifred (Michniewicz) Sadowski. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Casler, who died Feb. 24, 1969; four sisters, Florence Hundhausen, Regina Holsatpple, Jenny Riley and Veronica Zack; a brother, Edward Sadowski. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Sharon) Monnot of Louisville and Mrs. Rick (Darlene) Buck of Minerva; five sons, Raymond and wife, Glenda Casler, of Malvern, Richard and wife, Deloris Casler, of Rockhill, SC, Charles Casler of Minerva, Jimmy and wife, Kelly Casler, of Minerva, Timmy Casler of Osceola, IN, with whom she had resided; a sister, Christine Rowell of Chicago; a brother, Joseph Sadowski of Chicago; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. John M. Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton. Leta Strosnider
Leta (Myers) Strosnider, age 94, of Canton, OH, passed away Sunday morning in the White Oak Convalescent Home in Canton following an extended illness. Born in Moundsville, WV, on Aug. 9, 1906, she was a 1925 graduate of Moundsville High School and in earlier years she had worked for a Dr. Bradford in Moundsville, WV. She also had worked for the Marshall County Farm Bureau in Moundsville and had been a cook in the Marshall County School System at McKeefrey School in Washington Lands. She had served as a Girl Scout Leader in Moundsville from 1921-1930, attended the McClain Chapel in Washington Lands and the Calvary United Methodist Church in Moundsville, WV. In more recent years, she was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses West Congregation in Canton. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Strosnider, who passed away in 1962. She was also preceded in death by her parents, W.R.C. and Sina (Grimm) Myers; two sons, James F. and Philip M. Strosnider; two sisters, Katherine Huff and Mary Hunt; three brothers, John, Glen and Robert Myers. Survivors include three daughters, Eleanore R. Kettler of Lansing, OH, Betsy Strosnider of Wellsburg, WV and Dorothy Frazier of Canton, OH; three sons, Kenneth Strosnider of Canton, OH, Glen R. Strosnider of Moundsville, WV and Emerson Strosnider of Palatka, FL; a sister, Minnie Yeager of Carrollton, OH; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. There will be calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home in Canton on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Altmeyer Funeral Home in Moundsville, WV, where friends will be received two hours prior to services on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Burial will be in Peninsula Cemetery in Wheeling, WV. Levonia Miner
Levonia Miner, age 74, of Canton, completed her journey through this life Friday, June 22, 2001, at Aultman Hospital after a long illness. She was born Feb. 11, 1927, to the late Leroy and Dora Bell (Dalton) Croston. A resident of Canton for the past 50 years, she was a homemaker. Preceded in death by her husband, Hoy Miner in 1981; son, Edward Miner in 1990; two grandsons, Marion Daniel Miner, April 2000 and Blaine Leslie Calhoun III, June 1987; two sisters, Mary and Ester Rose; five brothers, Theodore, Jacob, Donald, Raymond and Leroy Jr. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and Donald Jackson, Laura Lee and Walter Clay, Paulette and Audy Taylor, all of Canton; five sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Carmen Miner, Larry and Linda Miner, Michael and Linda Miner, Marion and Rethea Miner, all of Canton and Peter and Helen Miner of Louisville; daughter-in-law, Diane Miner of West Virginia; 30 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; sister, Louanna Tanner and brother and sister-in-law, Bradford and Vera Croston, all of Canton; many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Waltner-Simchak Funeral Home with Rev. Winfield Miner officiating. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Lorene Brown
Lorene (Watkins) Brown, departed this life at 7:26 a.m. June 21, 2001 at McKinley Life Care Center. Mrs. Brown had been a resident at the facility after a debilitating illness in 1995. Lorene Brown was preceded in death by her loving husband, James C. Jim Brown; her parents, Atha H. and Nola M. Watkins; two dear sisters, Anna B. (Hill) Faulkner and Madra Knaff. Lorene Brown is survived by two sons, Daryl A. and Donna Brown of El Paso, TX; Gerald R. and Kathy Brown of Canton, OH; siblings, Mrs. Sendia McDonald of Sandusky, OH, Lillian Jefferson of Columbus, OH; Oscar Watkins of Logan, WV, Joe Watkins of Cleveland and Mrs. Wilma Gibbs of South Point, OH and Mrs. Betty Thompson of Huntington, WV; four grandchildren, E'lan Brown, Miles Brown, Carmeron M. Brown and Tyler Brown all of Canton; and a host of cherished cousins, nieces, nephews throughout the country. Services to be held Wednesday June 27, 2001 at 12 Noon from St. Paul's A.M.E., 1800 Tuscarawas E. Canton with Pastor Robert Dye officiating.
