Cleo E. Campbell
Cleo E. Campbell, age 98, of Canton, OH, passed away Thursday morning June 28th, in The Legends Care Center following a brief illness. Born in Glen Willow, OH, on October 17, 1902, she was a retired employee of the Ohio Bell Telephone Co., where she had worked for 43 years. She was a member of the North Industry United Methodist Church and the Pioneer Club of the Ohio Bell Telephone Co. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Campbell, who passed away February 15, 1964; and her sister, Daisy Valanak. She has no immediate family but is survived by her special friends, Harold and Betty McMillen and family of Canton. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial will be in the Melscheimer Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour before services on Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the North Industry United Methodist Church.
Edward Linus Fitz
Edward Linus Fitz, age 62, of Canton, passed away early Saturday morning in his home after an extended illness. He was born in Elyria, OH, and has been a Canton area resicent since 1963. He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church. He had served with the Army Air Force for four years. He was a retired employee of Picker International (Marconi) where he was employed for over 35 years in medical imaging equipment services. He is survived by his wife, Marie C. (Hamker) Fitz, with whom he celebrated 42 years of marriage on Nov. 26, 2000; three sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Shirley Fitz of Galion, OH, Gene and Caroline Fitz of Louisville, OH, Bill Fitz of North Canton, OH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Gene Swinehart of North Canton, OH, Peggy and Timothy Clugsten of Magadore, OH; his mother, Mrs. Ruth A. Fitz of Canton, OH; nine grandchildren, Cindy, Melissa and Jennifer Fitz, Lee and Dan Swinehart, Dawn, Raymond, Michelle and Laura Fitz. He was preceded in death by his father, Linus H. Fitz in 1976; sister, Marilyn (Fitz) Brown in 1983. Services will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the ROSSI Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Kevin Fete officiating. The internment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Monday 5-8 p.m. at the ROSSI Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Little Flower Grotto Fund.
Elizabeth Froelich
Elizabeth Naomi Froelich, 85, of Beach City, died early Saturday morning, June 30, 2001, at Massillon Community Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Mount Healthy on August 8, 1915, to the late Edward and Rosa Belle (Slemmer) Blaser and had lived most of her life in the Beach City area. She was a member of the Wilmot United Methodist Church and AARP. She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Robert (Jean) Widder of Beach City, Joy Young of Doylestown, Mrs. Harold (Jane) Kaser of Justus, Mrs. Bruce (Rosann) Witham of Beach City, Mrs. Jim (Rita) Mullet of Beach City and Mrs. Gerald (Robin) Mayhew of North Canton; 14 grandchildren, Bruce, Bobbe, Barre, and Beth Widder, Barbara Tucker, Bonnie Hastedt, Rick, Todd and Terry Young, Sherri Youngman, Patrick Witham, Rachel McConaghy, and Anissa and Kristina Mayhew; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Ruth Scheibe, formerly of Wilmot; a special friend, Bernice Amos of Beach City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gust Froelich in 1975; two brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Spidell Funeral Home in Brewster with Rev. Joe Wright officiating. Cremation will follow and her ashes will be buried in Grandview Cemetery in Strasburg. Friends may call on Thursday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Elsie M. Vance
Elsie M. Vance, age 92, of North Canton, passed away Saturday morning, June 30, 2001, in Meadow Wind Health Care Center following an extended illness. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, May 6, 1909, to her parents, the late John and Marie (Wolf) Petrick, she lived most of her life in the Canton area. Mrs. Vance was a charter member and oldest member of Bethel Temple of the Assemblies of God Church for 80 years, member of the church choir, Buckeye Pioneers, former Sunday School teacher and attended SARAH Adult Day Care Center of Massillon. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jackson Vance, March 19, 1985; her daughter, Doris; three brothers, Robert, Arthur and Howard Petrick; two sisters, Anna Calhoun and Margaret Dyer. Survivors include her care givers, Joan and Sam Miles and their family of North Canton, OH; her granddaughter, Barbara Johns of Canton; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Robert M. Graber officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home Monday 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Tuesday 12 noon - 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Bethel Temple.
Jennie E. Williams
Jennie Evelyn Williams, age 93, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Aultman Hospital at the age of 93. Jennie Evelyn Williams was born on May 3, 1908, in Asheville, NC, the only daughter of Ernest and Bessie Williams. As a young child, she joined the Methodist Church at her birth place in Asheville, NC. Later her family moved to Clearfield, PA where she received most of her education. She and her parents relocated to Altman, OH, where she attended Greentown High School. They lived in Altman, OH, until 1928 when she and her family moved to Malvern, OH. While there, she attended the Second Baptist Church. She was an employee of the Timken Roller Bearing Company from 1946-1949. She moved to Canton, OH, and worked at Anton's Restaurant. Late in life, she resided with her cousins, Elder Wilbur and Charlotte Allen for four years until she became incapacitated. Then she became a resident of the Smith's Nursing Home. She accepted Christ and became a member of All Saints Temple Church of God in Christ. She leaves to mourn her passing her first cousins, Evelyn Thompson of Southfield, MI, Louise Shipp of Canton, OH, Helen Jones of Sharpsville, PA, Paul (Mary) Nixon of Canton, OH, Georgia Mae Johnson of Philadelphia, PA, Tom Nixon of North Carolina, Almorine McClean of Mount Holly, NC, Howard Burton of North Carolina, and a host of other first, second and third cousins. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at All Saints Temple Church of God in Christ, 1451 Nimisilla Court S.E., Canton, OH 44707, with Elder Wilbur Allen III officiating. Lester H. Klay
Lester H. Klay, age 80, of Canton, died Friday afternoon. He was a graduate of Ohio University and a Jennings Scholar. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a teacher and coach for Plain Local Schools for 30 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Massillon, and the Wilmot Wilderness Center. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Clara Klay of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Richard Stalder of Sardis, OH, and Gloria and Rob Pavelzik of Massillon; grandchildren, Jodi, Laura and Brad; sister, Grace Hogan; and brother, Waldo Klay. Preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lilly Klay; brothers, Floyd and Roy Klay; and sister, Irene Merriner. Marvin Bud Blazer Jr.
Marvin Bud Blazer, Jr., age 54, of North Canton died suddently of an apparent heart attack on June 28. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1964, attended Walsh College, and was a employee and supervisor at Republic Storage Systems Co. for 35 years. Preceded in death by his father, Marvin Blazer Sr. Survived by wife, Cynthia (Rowley) Blazer of the home; son, Daniel Blazer of Columbus, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Jason Swank, of Nashville, TN; sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Damon Lumpkins of Bucyrus, OH; mother, Jeanne Blazer of Canton. Marvin, Jr. was a man of integrity whose strong work ethic was only surpassed by his loyalty to family and friends. Mike Cvengros
Mike Cvengros, age 79, of Bolivar passed away Thursday. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Electra, U.S.S. Wyoming, U.S.S. Nucleus. He retired from the Timken Co. in 1983 after 37 years of service, and was a former employee of the Lake Cable and Rohr's Nursery. He was a avid outdoorsman planting many trees during his tenure. Survived by wife, Betty of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Pam Cvengros of Canton; grandson, John (Beth) Cvengros; great-grandsons, Michael and Matthew Cvengros; brother, Roy Cvengros; step daughter and her husband, Janice and Dean Hamilton; step-grandchildren, Jonathan (Lou Ann) Hamilton and Elizabeth Hamilton; step-great-granddaughter, Meghan Hamilton. Preceded in death by his sisters, Ernestine McMasters and Phyllis Owens. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Sunset Hills Burial Park with Rev. Pamela J. Yoos
Pamela Jean Yoos, age 58, of North Canton, died Thursday afternoon from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born Jan. 22, 1943, in Canton to the late Gene and Isabelle Green. She was a former Girl Scout Leader, loved to aerobic dance. She was a runner and enjoyed the birds and flowers. Pam was very proud to have graduated Summa cum laude with a degree in education from Malone College after having raised her daughters; she was also a talented and creative artist. Most of all Pam was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Herbert of the home, with whom she celebrated 38 years of marriage; two daughters and son-in-law, Sally Yoos of North Canton and Chris and Robert Rozati Yoos of Columbus; one grandson, Jakob Rozati Yoos; one brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Mearlyn Green of Akron and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in Community Christian Church, on Main St., next to the Hoover Plant in North Canton, 111 Witwer NE. Reverend Elmer I. Brumbaugh
Reverend Elmer I. Brumbaugh, age 97, of Kent, died Friday at Aultman Hospital following a declining period of health. Born July 11, 1903, in Suffield, he was the son of Theodore and Minnie (Fausnight) Brumbaugh. He lived in Ravenna before moving to Kent in the late 40's. A 1948 graduate of Kent State University, Rev. Brumbaugh was licensed in 1933, ordained in 1934, and attended eldership in 1937 with the Church of the Brethren. He pastored the Kent Church of the Brethren from 1945 to 1960 and then from 1970 to 1977. He served as interim pastor for many northeastern Ohio congregations. Rev. Brumbaugh also served as superintendent of the Portage County Boy's Receiving Home in Ravenna from 1930 to 1938. He was the chief probation officer for the Portage County Juvenile Court from 1930 to 1950. He also served as the Protestant youth counselor with the Akron United Church Women from 1950 to 1970. He was a member of the Kent Church of the Brethren and was active at Happy Day School. Survivors include daughters, Eloise (Fred) Hart of Sarasota, FL, Esther (Howard) Domer of Louisville, June (John) Leadam of Thousand Oaks, CA; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; brothers, Ralph of Carrollton, Forrest of Warren, and Lloyd of Yorba Linda, CA; sisters, Kathryn Brobst of Windham and Doris Brumbaugh of Warren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Averie E. (Fenstermaker) on October 8, 2000; brother, Walter; sisters, Viola Carroll, Elsie Chapman, Ruth Sharp; and granddaughter, Beverly Domer. Friends will be received at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, KENT chapel on Monday 5-8 p.m. and on Tuesday at the Kent Church of the Brethren one hour prior to the 1 p.m. service where Pastor Bob Kurtz will officiate. Sherman Dickerhoof, Jr., age 75, of Bonita Springs, FL., formerly of Waynesburg, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001 after an extended illness. He was the son of Sherman and Carrie Dickerhoof. World War II Navy veteran. He retired from Bulova Watch Co. Preceded in death by his wife Velma (Ramsire) Dickerhoof. Survived two sisters, Ruth D. Robish of Canton, Mary E. Albright of Waynesburg; one brother, Lloyd E. Dickerhoof of Canton; many nieces and nephews. His body was cremated.
William W. Foss
William W. Foss, age 73, of Canton, died Saturday morning at his home following a brief illness. He was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Marietta, OH. He retired in 1986 from The Timken Company after 40 years of service. Member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Canton. Member of Holy Martyr's Council Knights of Columbus. Preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Wireman; two brothers; five sisters. Survived by his wife, F. Jean, to whom he had been married 50 years; three sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Vickie Foss, John and Marie Foss, Joe and Rhonda Foss; three daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Bob Davis, Gloria and Bill Grass, Marie and Don Datkuliak; 20 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a son-in-law, Jim Wireman, all of the Canton area. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Gerald Sommer, M.S.C. as celebrant. Burial in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
