Barbara S. Yohe
Barbara S. Yohe, age 73, died July 2, 2001, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Canton, OH, on December 30, 1927, Barbara graduated from McKinley High School, Canton, OH, in 1945 and Ohio University in 1949. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Taught at Lehman High School, Canton, OH; participated with her husband on the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ, 1978-1995; formerly a member of Miami Shores Presbyterian Church, Miami, FL; currently a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, Knoxville, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents, George D. Smith and Marie Dysle Smith; brother, Thomas A. Smith; and sister, Jeanne S. McDevitt. Survived by her husband, Walter Yohe of Knoxville, TN; and three daughters, Diane Morris and her husband, Allen Morris of Miami, FL, Nancie Merrill and her husband, Harrison Merrill of Atlanta, GA, Marcia Burnham and her husband, Peter Burnham of Luxembourg City, Luxembourg; 13 grandchildren, Olivia, Lisel, Mallori and Spencer Morris, Brittany, Harrison, Lindsay, Daniel and Tinsley Merrill; Jane, Sara, Will and Anne Burnham. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel, Knoxville, TN, with sons-in-law, W. Allen Morris, W. Harrison Merrill, and Peter M. Bonnie F. Keller
Bonnie Francis Keller, age 72, of Canton, went home to be with the Lord, July 1, 2001, in her home after an extended illness. She was born October 16, 1928, in Canton, to her parents, the late Ralph and Fannie (Vaught) Fasana. Bonnie was a member of the Canton Christian Fellowship, Mayfield Manor Club, the National Council of Senior Citizens and the AARP. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Keller, Jr., in 1990; brother, William Trusty; and sister, Margarite Molloy. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Susan Keller of Dover, Steven and Laurie Keller of Canton and Dwight and Pamela Keller of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Donald Wagner of Canton; a brother, Tom Trusty of Cincinnati; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Lindsey Hayes officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacob Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Thursday. Chester P. Barros
Chester P. Barros, age 62, of Dorchester, MA, passed away suddenly Tuesday, June 26, 2001 in Massachusetts. Preceded in death by parents, Antonio P. Barros, Sr., and Jenny (Santos) Pina; brother, Robert P. Pontes. Survived by one daughter, Dominga Barros-Osman of New York; four sons, Robert Ali Barros, Troy Barros-Whitley, Damien Cox, all of Massachusetts, Chester Barros, Jr. of New York; stepmother, Alberta Barros of California; sisters, Priscilla Moore of Massachusetts, Cola Barros of Canton, Toni Barros of California; brothers, Antonio Barros, Jr., Daniel Tavares, both of Massachusetts, Michael Barros of California; six grandchildren; dear cousin, Joe Perry of Massachusetts; long time companion, Shirley Whitley-Bussey of Rhode Island; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 5, 2001 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel at Calvary Cemetery with Fr. Nicholas Mancini officiating. There are no calling hours.

Helen M. Miller
Helen M. Miller, age 89, formerly of Jackson Twp., died June 29, 2001 in Azle, TX. She was born April 5, 1912 in Canton, Ohio, daughter of the late Edward and Zelma (Heltzel) Reikowski. She had been a member of St. Paul Catholic Church of North Canton, St. Paul's Rosary/Altar Society, AARP, and C.G.A. (Catholic Group Assoc.). She is survived by her son, Nelson Miller of Azle, TX, brother, Lester Reikowski of Canton, sisters, Mrs. Bob (Edna) Formes of Louisville, Mrs. Bob (Margaret) Dahler and Mrs. Rita Dahler both of North Canton and Mrs. Don (Amy) McPeak of Canal Fulton, 3 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Nelson Miller (died 1990), one brother, and three sisters. Graveside committal service will be held Thursday, July 5, at Sunset Memory Gardens, North Canton, at 9:30 A.M. with Mgsr. James A. Clarke officiating. James Marks Harkness, age 84, of West Jefferson, went to join Jesus, Sunday, July 1, 2001, Mount Carmel West Hospital. Born Sept. 24, 1916 in Monticello, GA to the late W. Cohen and Roxie (Marks) Harkness. Retired Social Worker from the State of Ohio Department of Mental Retardation, member of West Jefferson Bible Church, 34 year member of The Gideons International. Survived by wife of 55 years, Lois (McIntyre) Harkness; son, David (Diana) Harkness of Columbus; brother, W. Fred (Janet) Harkness of Massillon; several adopted grandchildren. Preceded in death by sisters, Sarah Gribble and Roxie Anne. Funeral Thursday, July 5, 2001 at Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Janet Dawn Hoover Miller
Janet Dawn Hoover Miller, born in Dover, OH, June 21, 1941, died July 1, 2001. A graduate of Strasburg High School and the Akron City Hospital School of Nursing in 1962, she received a B.A. from the University of Akron in 1972 and M.S. in 1980. She was an assistant professor at the University of Akron; staff nurse, assistant head nurse, instructor and project coordinator at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron; director of nursing education, director of CENE (retiring in 2000); adj. instructor Malone College, Canton, OH; member of the National League of Nursing, ACCH, Ohio Community Nurse Educators (Chair), Alpha Sigma Lambda, Alpha Kappa Delta, Pi Lambda Theta, Sigma Theta Tau and was Chair of the Bath Church Mission Board. Preceded in death by her father, Richard Allen Hoover, she is survived by her husband, Richard Lawrence Miller (married October 10, 1964); son, Quentin Randall Miller; daughter, Kathleen Kay Miller-Dakota; mother, Dorothy Alice (Kemmerle) Hoover. She was a loving grandmother to twins, Avery and Noah, Wyatt and Devin. A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. FRIDAY at Bath Church, with Rev. Mark Frey officiating. Jordan Reed Fischer
Jordan Reed Fischer, age 13, of 231 5th Street died July 2, 2001 at the Children's Hospital in Columbus. He was born February 22, 1988 in Coshocton to Nicholas S. and Patricia A. (Frazee) Fischer who survive. He had completed the 7th grade at River View Jr. High School where he was an honor student, a member of the 7th grade basketball team, and a member of the Jr. High Swing Choir Style. Jordan was youth member of the Alpaca and Llama Show Association where he had earned the Superior Award in Junior Youth Showmanship and had been in the TOP TEN nationally for the last three years. He played short stop for the River View 13 year old Babe Ruth baseball team, was a member of the Kamelid Kushers 4-H Club, and was baptized at and attended the Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Adam W. Fischer of Warsaw; his maternal grandparents, Roscoe and Joyce Frazee of Mount Vernon; his paternal grandparents, Jack and Patti (Fischer) Lewis of Warsaw; two uncles, Ritch (Mary) Frazee of Mount Vernon and Gary (Michelle) Fischer of Warsaw; six cousins, Corey (Chrissie) Fischer, Jesse, Evan, and Caleb Fischer, Evan Wright, and Zachary Elson. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Lynn R. Fischer of January 26, 1985. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 6, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Pastor Dan Barfell and Daniel Kaiser officiating. Leslie L. Diehl, Jr., born Aug. 1, 1921, died June 30, 2001, at the Laurels of Norworth, Worthington, OH. Veteran of World War II, 926 Signal Battalion, 9th U.S. Army Air Force. Graduate of OSU Class of 1947. Retired Vice President/Regional Manager of Nationwide Insurance. Former Elder and Choir Member at John Knox Presbyterian Church, North Canton, OH. Advanced-class licensed amateur radio operator, call letters W8SPL. Preceded in death by beloved wife of 49 years, Betty J. Diehl. Survived by daughters, Joyce Pack of Worthington, Margaret Diehl of Westerville and Carol Baker of Belmont; grandchildren, Greg Pack, Jamison Pack and husband, Jason Moore; Katy, Beth and Ali Shaffer; Eric Baker; great-granddaughter, Jasmine McCloskey; brother and sister-in-law, Clark and Joyce Diehl; sister and brother-in-law, Marilouise and Dick Downing; sister, Alice Wilson; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Zimmer and niece, Ellen Zimmer and many other nieces and nephews. Marion B. Beebe
Marion B. Beebe, age 91, of North Canton, died Tuesday at Windsor Medical Center where she resided after a short illness. Marion was born in Albany, NY Jan. 21, 1910, and had resided in the North Canton area for the past 10 years. She was employed by the Wickliffe Board of Education as a Clerk/Treasurer for 50 yrs. retiring in 1971. She was a member of St Michael Catholic Church, Past President of Wickliffe Library Society, V.F.W. Ladies Auxillary Brewer-Tarasco #7, Lake County MRDD, and the Ladies of the Eastern Star. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David and (Barbara) Beebe of Canton, 4 grandchildren, Todd Ricciuti, Amy Lloyd, Robyn Ricciuti-Culp and Aubrey Beebe, and four great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Howard Beebe (1996) and parents, Conrad and Bertha (Owens) Slyke. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 5, 2001 at 12 Noon at St Michaels Catholic Church with Pastor Rev. Bradford Helman officiating. Mildred Glenn
Mildred Glenn, age 66, went home to be with the Lord, early in the morning on Sunday, July 1, 2001. Born July 12, 1934 in Canton, to the late, Kathleen and Ross Singleterry; step-father, Walter Cummings; brothers, Frederick and Leroy Singleterry; sister, Paula Cummings Scott; loving grandsons, DeShawn Terell Jackson; and nephew, Alfred Tres' Hill. Mildred accepted Christ at any early age. She was noted vocalist and church pianist in the Canton area for many years, playing piano for the Antioch Baptist Church for over 30 years. Mildred had recently joined the St. Mark's Baptist Church family under the Pastoral Care of Rev. George Dunwoody. Mildred leaves to mourn her passing, three sons, Anthony Tony (Sheila) Stove, Ronald (Brenda) Glenn, Mark Glenn all of Canton; step-daughter, Carla Walker; three loving sisters, Mary Lou (George) Tucker, Brenda Hill all of Canton, Effie (Mederick) Henry of Columbus, OH; sisters-in-law, Gwen Singleterry and Betty Singleterry; brother-in-law, Vincent Dennis Scott, of Canton; ex-husband, Bonnie Glenn. Ruth P. Van Gorp
Ruth P. Van Gorp, age 88 of Massillon, OH, passed away Sunday evening, July 1, 2001 in the residence following a four month illness. Born in Massillon, OH, January 22, 1913 to her parents the late Harry Fisher and Antoinette Loretta (Riordan) Fisher, she lived most of her life in the Canton area and was a retired employee of Akron General Medical Center, retiring in 1977. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Leanora Snoddy and her brother, Frank (Bus) Fisher. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Antoinette (Toni) Riley of Hampton, VA, Jill Joan VanGorp of Eubank, KY, Michele R. and Richard Miles of Waynesburg, KY, Alene L. Van Gorp of North Richland Hills, TX, Harry R. Van Gorp of Whitney, TX, Cheri A. Gum of Louisville, OH, Rene E. and Daniel R. Vance of Massillon, OH. There are 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren also surviving. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 10:00 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church in Canton with Fr. Richard Klingler as celebrant. Calling hours at the REED Funeral Home Tuesday (TONIGHT) 6-8 p.m. There will be no funeral procession to the church. The Mass will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. at the church. At the request of the family, her body will be cremated following the funeral service. Walter B. Davis
Walter B. Davis, age 76, of Canton, passed away early Monday morning in Aultman Hospital due to complications from emphysema. He was born in Michigan and resided in the Canton area most of his life. He was retired from Service Master as a maintenance employee. Survived by his wife, Annie (Efanti), with whom he celebrated 42 years of marriage on Nov. 6, 2000; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Donald Furney of Malvern, Annie and Chris Ratay of North Canton; daughter-in-law, Brenda Davis of Massillon; five grandchildren, Zachary and Michael Ratay, Ashley, Alex and Amber Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Angelo J. Davis on March 29, 2001. Private memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Bishop officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Church Building Fund in his memory.
William E. Shaeffer
William E. Shaeffer, age 79, of Canton, passed away Sunday morning in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Canton, a son of the late Blaine and Mary Smith Shaeffer, and resided here most of his life. He was a 1941 graduate of McKinley High School. He retired in 1984 from Diebold Inc., after 44 years service, where he was a draftsman engineer. Mr. Shaeffer was a member of the Bible Believers Baptist Church, the Canton Ex-Newsboys Assoc., and VFW Post #7490 in Louisville. He served with the Army Air Force during World War II. Survived by his wife, Gloria M. Shaeffer, with whom he celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on April 15th; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Ray Fausneaucht, of Arlington, TX, Donna and Bernard Furbee, of Louisville, and Shelly DiMattio, of Canton; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Ivonne Shaeffer, Jr., of Rutherford, TN; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Blaine and Eunice Shaeffer, Jr., of Biggers, AR, and Jack and Agnes Shaeffer, of Massillon; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Bible Believers Baptist Church with Pastor Arthur Martin officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Wednesday 7-9 p.m. at the Formet-Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home and Thursday 10-11 a.m. at the church.
