Bernice L. Bennington
Bernice L. Bennington, age 84, of Navarre, OH passed away Tuesday morning in the Meadow Wind Health Care Center following an extended illness. Born in Pennsboro, WV on October 26, 1916 she was the daughter of the late, John and Molly (Kysor) Meredith. She had lived most of her life in the Canton area and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. She was a former cook at the Belden Hotel, known to may as Sarge. She was a member of the Eleventh Street Church of God and for many years she served the Lord where she could until the time of her illness. Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Clarence Lee Bennington of the home; her niece, Dorothy Elmore and husband, Frank and family of Akron, OH and niece, Sandra Russell and husband, Calvin and family of Richmond, OH; sister-in-law, Carrie Meredith of Toronto, OH. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Shafer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home on Thursday evening 7-9 p.m.

Bonnie F. Keller
Bonnie Francis Keller. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Lindsey Hayes officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacob Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to be made to Aultman Hospice, 4510 Dressler Rd. N.W., Canton, OH 44718.

Joseph Braghieri
Joseph 'Louie' Braghieri, age 77, of Canton, passed away Monday July 2, 2001 in Cleveland. He was born in Akron on July 31, 1923 to thelate Ernest Rose (Brusamonti) Braghieri. He retired from U.S. Steel after 30 years of service, was a WW II U.S.Coast Guard Veteran, and had attended Cathedral of Life. Preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Braghieri; daughter, Marilyn Jackson; and brother, Frank Braghieri. Survived by his second wife, Marlene Zimmerman; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen James Dittmore, Darlena Deane Martinez, Sandra John Sikora, Francia Edward Overdorf, and Beverly Michael Henderhan all of Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Dave Jackson, Rodney Brenda Jackson, Tim Tracy Zimmerman, Michael Braghieri, Joseph Laura Braghieri all of Canton, and Anthony Tamara Braghieri of Florida; brother and sisters-in-law, Albert Julia Braghieri of Cuyahoga Falls and Rose Braghieri of Akron; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Friends may call Thursday 4-8:00 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Friday 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Dr. Dana Gammil officiating. Final Resting Place is West Lawn Cemetery.

Krysten Renee Smith
Krysten Renee Smith, age 11, of Alliance, died at 2:50 p.m. Monday at Akron Children's Hospital. She was born Nov. 7, 1989, in Akron, OH, to Corby Kim Smith and Camala Kay (Brink) Smith. She attended Atwater Christian School entering into the 6th Grade. Surviving are her parents, Camala Kay Smith and Corby Kim Smith; a brother, Ryan Corbett Smith; a sister, Rachelle Marie Smith all of Alliance; her maternal grandmother, Hannah Jeanette Brink of Badin Lake, NC; her paternal grandparents, Herbert and Ona Smith of Alliance; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Thurman William Brink. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Beloit. Calling hours are Thursday July 5th 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Mildred C. Stauffer
Mildred C. Rich Stauffer, passed away June 30, 2001, at the age of 93 in Rochester, NY. Formerly of Canton. She is survived by her daughters, Julianne Hilloowala (Rumy) of Morgantown, WV, Janet Leone (James) of Rochester, NY, Katherine Thomson of Rochester, NY; son, Robert Stauffer (Karen Mingst) of Lexington, KY; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, R. Eliot Stauffer in 1994 and their son, Richard in 1937. A devoted mother and grandmother, Mildred also found time throughout her life to study the natural world. She dedicated herself to supporting conservation efforts and worked to educate others through her active participation in several institutions and organizations, including the Girl Scouts, the Rochester Museum and Science Center, the Bergen Swamp Preservation Society, the Nature Conservancy and others. Polly Stotler
Polly (E. Pauline) Stotler, age 82, died Monday, July 2, 2001. She was a resident of Barberton, formerly of Green. Preceded in death by her husband, Walter, D.; brothers, Leamon, Oval, Emmett; sisters, Linnie McCown and Virginia Marr. Survived by sons, David (Neva) of Atwater, Bob (Theresa) of Canton; grandchildren, Jason (Sandra), Stacey (Jason) Huth and Bryan; brother, Virgil (Mary); sister-in-law, Olive McAlister all of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews of Tennessee and Ohio. Funeral services will be held Friday, 2 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Avenue, Barberton, Ohio with Jim Walsh officiating. Burial at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation Thursday 2-4 7-9 p.m.

Randall W. McIntyre
Randall W. McIntyre, age 42, of Ocala, FL, died suddenly on Sunday, June 24, 2001. Born in Canton, OH, he moved to Ocala from Atlanta in 1989. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice M. McIntyre. Survived by his father, Jack W. McIntyre of Fayettsville, GA; twin sister, Sandra E. McIntyre of Bolivar, OH; brothers, Dennis A. McIntyre of Hampton, GA, Jack D. McIntyre of Jackson, GA, and John W. Gates of East Sparta, OH; sisters, Laura A. Levan of Chickamauga, GA, and Janice K. Jovingo of Brecksville, OH; nine nephews and nieces; and five great-nephews and great-nieces. Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at the Canton Baptist Temple at 515 Whipple Ave. NW, Canton, OH, with Rev. David Harman officiating. Friends may call at the Temple one hour before the services. Commitment in Calvary Cemetery.

Richard M. Schwitzgebel
Richard M. Schwitzgebel, age 45, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, July 2, 2001, in the Emergency Room of Aultman Hospital. Born in Canton to his parents, Albert and Doris Schwitzgebel of Canton, on Sept. 1, 1955. He was a 1974 graduate of Perry High School. He was last employed by General Electric Credit Corp. Rick was a past volunteer fireman for both Perry Twp. and the Hoover Co. He was also a current member of the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Lords Council #4533. Preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Lee Schwitzgebel. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Chad Schwitzgebel and Marc Schwitzgebel, both of Canton; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Edward and Rita Schwitzgebel of North Canton and Raymond Schwitzgebel of Canton; one sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Paul Knis of Canton; one niece, Ashley Knis; two nephews; Greg Schwitzgebel and Geoff Schwitzgebel. He will be deeply missed by all. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Burial at Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday 7-9 p.m. at the Welch-Sekeres-Lewis Funeral Home. Donations may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Assoc.

Robert P. Mills
Robert P. Mills, age 81, formerly of Louisville, died Monday evening in the McCrea Manor Nursing Center following an extended illness. Son of the late Robert and Myrtle (Smoot) Mills, he was a Louisville area resident for 40 years and retired as owner-operator of Mills Hardware in Robertsville in 1992 after 48 years of business. Member of the Faith Baptist Church, where he had served as Deacon, Trustee, Usher and Sunday School Teacher. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Helen (Mills) LeBeau. He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Sandra Mills of Louisville, Terry Mills of Louisville, Robert and Sylvia Mills of Canton, Paul and Pam Mills of Louisville; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Cork Sackett of Louisville; three grandchildren, Joel Mills, Kelli Harter and Taylor Mills; one great-granddaughter, Meghan Harter. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton with Rev. John Tucker officiating. Interment in Robertsville Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m.

Ruth P. Van Gorp
Ruth P. Van Gorp. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 10:00 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church in Canton with Fr. Richard Klingler as celebrant. Calling hours at the REED Funeral Home Tuesday (TONIGHT) 6-8 p.m. There will be no funeral procession to the church. The Mass will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. at the church. At the request of the family, her body will be cremated following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.

Scott B. Weals
Scott B. Weals, age 56, of Canton, died Tuesday July 3, 2001 in his home after an extended illness. He was born December 5, 1944 in Steubenville, son of Mabel Scott Weals of Amsterdam and the late George Weals. He was a member of First Friends Church at Canton and a former employee of Cardington Yutako Technologies of Cardington, OH. Scott was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. In addition to his mother he survived by one daughter, Jessica Weals of Canton; one brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Janice Weals of Massillon; one sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Ken Coleman of Solon, OH. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home at Amsterdam with Rev. Don Ebert officiating. Burial will be in East Springfield Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8. The family requests memorial contributions may be made in Scott's memory to The American Diabetes Foundation, 4565 Dressler Rd. Serma Sarikaya
Serma Sarikaya, age 73, of Canton passed away in her home after a sudden illness. Mrs. Sarikaya was born in Istanbul, Turkey on October 2, 1927 to the late Tahir and Nehzihe Karamursel. She was of Muslim faith. She had been a resident of this area for the past 45 years. She is survived by a daughter and her son-in-law, Gulayse and Dr. Hulusi Ergun of Jackson Twp.; one son, Kent Sarikaya of Canton; one grandson, Verdi Ergun; one sister, Semra Karamursel of Turkey. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Northlawn Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The Rossi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas F. Lerch
Thomas F. Lerch died Tuesday, July 3, 2001. He was born in East Sparta, OH, November 18, 1918. An Ohio State University graduate, he married Ladyne M. Ries of Canton, OH, in 1946 upon his return from China and World War II service. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corp. in Utah and West Virginia for three years. His military service included the U.S. Navy, 1943 to 1946 and 1948 to 1957 from Seaman Recruit to Lieutenant Commander, in the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, Carribbean and Mediterranean Theatres, and with the Military Attache Advisory Group in Norway. From 1958 to 1974, he was a foreign service officer with the U.S. Dept. of State, serving in Indonesia, Korea, Egypt, Afghanistan, and Washington, D.C. After retirement, he made his home in North Canton, OH. An antique car hobbyist, he was active in several national car clubs until his death. Survivors include his wife, Ladyne M. Ries Lerch; son, Michael of Roswell, GA; son, Patrick of Worthington, OH; and daughter, Karin Toomey of Southern Pines, NC; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, John of Godfrey, IL, James of Houston, TX; sister, Sarah J. Mallett of Canton, OH; and a foster brother, William C. Schneider of North Canton, OH. Services and burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

Walter B. Davis
Walter B. Davis. Private memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Bishop officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Church Building Fund in his memory.

William E. Shaeffer
William E. Shaeffer. Services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Bible Believers Baptist Church. Friends may call Wednesday (tonight) 7-9 p.m. at the Formet-Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home and Thursday 10-11 a.m. at the church.
