Augustus F. Rininger
Augustus F. Rininger, age 60 of Canton died early Friday morning in Altercare of Navarre. Born August 30,1940 in Canton to the late Mervin and Thelma Rininger. He was a member of United Gospel Tabernacle Church of God and was retired from Stark Ceramics after 19 years of service. Preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Rininger. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Barbara Rininger of Canton; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Milodene Powell and Nancy Rexrode both of Kernersville, NC, Arletta Rininger, Vera and Delmer Anderson, Shirley and Barry Elliott and Brenda Sell, all of Canton. There are four aunts, Hazel Essig of Bolivar, OH, Gladys Sanko of Alliance, OH, Charlotte Whittman of Olivia, MN, Betty Varner of North Canton and numerous nieces and nephews also surviving. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Dorothy J. Evans
Dorothy Jean (Greer) Evans, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 25, 2001, passing over quietly in her sleep. She was born a farmer\'s daughter on Jan. 7, 1924 and married on Christmas Eve 1941 to Richard G. Evans, who preceded her in death in May, 1988. She served her country proudly in World War II as a member of the WAVE\'S and after the ware worked several years for the Stark County Prosecutor\'s office. She was active as a Girl Scout Leader and Sunday School teacher and delivered Meals on Wheels until her health began to decline. Dorothy was a bowler and a bridge player for many years and continued to water ski until she was 66. She loved the Lord and she embraced life to its fullest but her passion was her family which she often said was her greatest blessing. To her nine grandchildren she was Nanny, to her children she was Mom and to everyone she met and knew she was a sympathetic ear, a praying heart and a treasured friend. In living she taught us love, compassion and truth. In dying she taught us trust, patience, peace and dignity. Survived by daughters, Terri Sabo (Rick) of Cambridge, OH, Donna Kousaie (Dr. George) of Dover-Foxcroft, ME; sons, Rick (Joyce), Bob (Sandi) and Jeff (Tonia); sister, Sylvia Stires (Beard) and her husband, Jim. She is also survived by numerous cousins and kinfolk in the hills around Shell Creek, TN, a place she loved. She loved and will be missed by her many church friends at Lowell United Church of Christ Volunteer Class, where she was a member for over 40 years. Recently she worshiped at Dueber United Methodist Church (Where Hope Is Found). There she was warmly embraced by the church family especially the Trailblazer\'s Class, where she experienced the true Agape love that can only come from those who have a relationship with Christ. Nanny requested no flowers, rather, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or Dueber United Methodist Church. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home Tuesday 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The service of Christian Resurrection will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Dr. Chester Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Earl D. Creighton
Earl D. Creighton, age 85, of Canton, passed away Friday evening, March 23, 2001 in the residence following a six week illness. Born in Canton, OH, Sept. 24, 1915 to his parents the late Orville O.D. and Mary (Moncrief) Creighton, he was a 1933 graduate of McKinley High School. Mr. Creighton was a retired employee of W.T. Grant Co., retiring in 1975 after 23 years of service and a former employee of Baers\' Office Supply Co., until 1984, He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Carolyn Creighton. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Jean Creighton of the home, to whom he was married 59 years; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas E. Creighton of the home, Mark E. and Mary L. Creighton of Pensacola, FL, Daniel E. and Bert Creighton of Canton; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Oliver Nealy officiating. Burial in North Lawn Cemetery. Evelyn J. Rogers
Evelyn J. Rogers, 78, of 5882 Bandy Rd., Homeworth, died Friday March 23, 2001 at 11:15 a.m. at her residence. She was born in Alliance on January 3, 1923 and had lived all her life in the Alliance area. Mrs. Rogers was a member of Science Hill United Church of Christ and retired from Sugardale Foods in Canton. She was a former member of Kadesh Court #19 in Akron and a past member of the Alliance Ladies Shrine Club. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Sandra (Skivolocke) and David Soles of Homeworth; daughter Debra Zimpelman Newburn, owner of Doggie Coiffures II, of Alliance; son and daughter-in-law Frank E. and Arlis Skivolocke of Homeworth; son and daughter-in-law Charles S. and Meleia Rogers, Jr. of Paris; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Marie DeLion Herbert of Carrollton and Kathy Scott Hoover of Alliance; one brother, Carl H. DeLion, Jr. of Alliance; and fourteen nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her parents, Carl H. DeLion Sr. and Wilma M. (Easterday) Lilley; and a brother John W. Jack DeLion.A Memorial Service will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. Ralph Norman and her nephew, Rev. Lawrence DeLion, officiating. Gertrude F. Stafford
Gertrude Francis Stafford, age 87, of Minerva, died at Great Trail Care Center Sat. March 24, 2001. Born in Wellsville, OH, Feb. 18. 1914 to the late Lyle and Addella (Cline) Anderson. She was a homemaker and secretary for Stafford Realty. Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald E. and Kay Stafford of Minerva; grandsons, Murray Stafford of Barnesville, Thomas Stafford of East Rochester; granddaughter, Sharon Lease of Columbus; great-granddaughters, Kaylin and Lauren Stafford; great-grandsons, Nicholas Lease, Neil Stafford and Nathan Lease. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H. Stafford in 1973; sister, Helen Kennedy in 1995. Harold E. Davis
Harold E. Davis, age 84, of Canton, passed away Sunday morning in his residence. He was born in Algonquin, PA, a son of the late John H. and Cleda Brooks Davis and had been a Canton resident since 1966. He retired in 1981 from Dyneer Corp., after 15 years of service, where he was a maintenance mechanic and foreman. Mr. Davis was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple, the Jolly 60\'s, Men\'s Bible Class on Tuesday and the Men\'s Prayer Group on Sunday evening, all of the church. Preceded in death by his wife, Wanda W. Davis, on Jan. 3, 1993, and two sons, Richard L. Davis on Sept. 30, 1992, and Harold Ed Davis, on April 4, 1997. Survived by his daughter, Brenda Joyce Matz of Navarre; two daughters-in-law, Mary Lou Davis of Malvern and Janet Davis of Sandyville; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Helen M. Wilson
Helen M. Wilson, age 88, formerly of Canton and more recently a resident of Florida and California died Wednesday morning March 21, 2001 in California. Born April 5, 1912 in Marietta, OH to the late Clarence and Carrie Allen. Preceded in death by her husband, Homer A. Wilson on July 13, 1993; one son, Jack Alan Wilson; and one brother, Clifford Allen. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Larry Norris of Alpine, CA and Marjorie J. and Robert Bergmann of Canton; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday in the Chapel at North Lawn Cemetery at 10 a.m.
Irene Minnie Rollins
Irene Minnie Rollins, age 90, of Canton, died unexpectedly Saturday in her home. Daughter of the late Elsworth C. and Minnie (Vonalmon) Snider. She was a life resident of the Canton area. Member of the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a founding member of the Rockwood Park Property Owners Association. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur W. Rollins in 1982; two sisters; six brothers. Survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Helen Rollins of Massillon, James and Marilyn Rollins of Canton; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Wray and Beverly Snider of Hartville; one sister, Rita Miser of East Canton. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Norman Dew officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. John G. Hammond
John Garnand Hamilton, age 83, of Canton, passed away Friday Night March 23, 2001 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Uhrichsville, OH on January 26, 1918 to John Sylvia (Ankney) Hamilton and was a Massillon High School Graduate. Mr. Hamilton retired from the Timken Co. in 1983 after 35 years of service. He was a WW II Navy Veteran, Specialist First Class Naval
Intelligence, and after the war received his B.S. in Business Administration from Ohio State University. In 1959 he earned his Juris Doctor Attorney of Law degree from University of Akron. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Massillon, and a member of the Canton Exchange Club. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Jane; son and daughter-in-law, Craig Vicki Hamilton of Canton and granddaughters, Nicole Ann and Ashley Elizabeth Hamilton. There will be no calling hours. Family Funeral Services were held. Final Resting Place is North Lawn Cemetery. Mable Sue Mack
Mable Sue Mack, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 22, 2001. She was born April 8, 1921 in Front Royal, VA. She worked as a Nursing Assistant for Dr. Walker, also worked at the Canton Urban League, retired as Chapter Correspondent of the American Red Cross in Canton. Preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Broy, husband, Guy Andrew Mack Sr., sister, Roberta Garner, brothers, Earnest Broy, George L. Broy, James E. Broy and Robert Dearing. She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, member of the Northeast Needle Craft Club, member of the Urban League. She graduated from Canton McKinley High School, and was in the National Honor Society, attended Wilberforce College. Mable leave to cherish her precious memories, sons, Guy A. Mack Jr. (Kisha Moore), Garth (Edna) Mack, Garland (Joan) Mack; sisters, Mary Frances Robinson, Jean (Jack Big Red) Mayle; grandchildren, Michelle Kay Mack, Garland E. Miriam R. Cullen, age 80, of Canton, passed away Saturday Morning, March 24,2001 in Altercare of Louisville. She was born in Wooster on June 19,1920 to the late Charles R. Anna (Wenger) Shultz and was a 1938 graduate of Orrville High School. She was a graduate of Canton Actual Business School and had been a bookkeeper for Art\'s Jewelers for over 30 years. Miriam was a member of Faith Community Church where her close circle of friends were the Happy Hearts Group. She is preceded in death by her son James R. Cullen II in Aug. 1986; husband, Grant F. Cullen in Oct. 1986; and a brother, Leonard C. Shultz, and survived by her family who adored her; daughter, Carol Cullen of Orrville; son, Bruce Cullen of Canton; and sister, Marjorie Shultz of Orrville. Rick B. Reed
Rick B. Reed, age 50 of Canton died Monday March 19, 2001 in Morgan City, LA. He was born April 15, 1950 in Canton. Mr. Reed is preceded in death by his father, Donald Reed. Survivors include four daughters and son-in-law, Lisa Clemens of Massillon, Brandy Matthew Schneider, Erica Reed, Miranda Reed, and his former wife and friend, Cheri Reed all of Canton. There are two grandchildren, James Freetage and Daylin Daniels, his mother, Louise Reed of North Canton and four sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Michael Lones of North Canton, Nancy and Joseph Suarez of Massillon, Linda and Gary Rackley of Georgia and Denise Reed of Canton. There are several nieces and nephews also surviving. Private services will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to assist with final expenses.
Robert B. Atkinson
Robert B. Atkinson, age 85, died late Saturday evening in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born November 11, 1915 in Richmond, VA. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, a World War II Army Veteran and was retired from the Raymond James Financial Co. He was a member of William Hoover Lodge #770 FAM and Scottish Rite Valley of Canton. Preceded in death by his wife, Esther Atkinson; one brother, John Atkinson. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Marge and Steven Bottcher of New Canaan, CT; three grandsons, Jeffrey Bottcher of Southport, CT, Brian Bottcher of Chicago, IL, Scott (Shawn) Bottcher; one great-granddaughter, all of Chagrin Falls, OH. Veronica M. Sickafoose, age 50, of Louisville, died Saturday evening in Green Meadows Health Center following an eight month illness from injuries she sustained in an auto accident. Daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Fiscus) Stacy. She was a life resident of the Canton and Louisville area. A 1968 graduate of Louisville High School and was employed by Fitness Quest. She is also preceded in death by an infant brother, Terry Stacy. Survived by her husband, Lester Sickafoose to whom she was married 13 years; two sons, Keith Pennington of Canton, Jonathon Sickafoose of Louisville; two stepdaughters, Tammy Sickafoose and Michelle Tolley ; one stepson, Michael Sickafoose, all of Louisville; nine step-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Barb Stacy of Brunswick, GA, John Stacy of Canton, Joe and Susan Stacy of Canton, Michael and Christine Stacy of Canfield, OH; two sisters and brother-in-law, Valerie and Dean Flory of Canton, Lori Hall of Lakeland, FL; numerous nieces and nephews. William Steele, Jr.
William W. Steele, Jr., age 83, of North Canton, passed away early Sunday morning, March 25, 2001, in his residence. Mr. Steele was born July 15, 1917, in North Canton to the late William W. and Grace (Bramley) Steele and has been a lifetime area resident. He was the retired owner of the W. W. Steele, Jr. Insurance Agency and was a past president of the Ohio Association of Independent Insurance Agents. He was a Retired Director of United National Bank. A lifetime active member of Community Christian Church in North Canton, Bill graduated from Culver Military Academy and received his Civil Engineering degree from Lehigh University. During WW II, he served as a Major in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Steele was an active volunteer for many years at Aultman Hospital, and was a past president of the hospital\'s Board of Trustees. A United Way volunteer for decades, he was honored by United Way with the Gold Key Award. He also volunteered his time for countless other civic and charitable organizations. Survivors include his wife Jessie Jed Frease Steele; a daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Frans Officer of Bloomington, Minnesota; son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Diane Steele of Boulder Junction, Wisconsin; Kurt Steele of Canton, Ohio; stepchildren and spouses are Polly Bennell of Portland, Maine; Pamela (Puff) and John Murton of Portland, Maine; Charles Bennell of Canton; David and Dede Bennell of Porter\'s Landing, Maine; grandchildren Sara Steele; Jackie, Leslie Lacy Wilda; Justin Steele and Liza Patske; Benjamin Harvey; Galen Chris Murton; Ryder Bennell; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives, Helen Deuble Steele and Alice Borchers Steele, and a sister, Marjorie Steele Moore. A memorial service will be Tuesday 3:00 p.m. in Community Christian Church, 111 Witwer St. NE, North Canton with Dr. Donald G. Baird officiating. The Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service (1:00-3:00 p.m.) at the Church. Private burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
