Ambrose Puperi
Ambrose Bud Puperi, age 84, of N. Eighth St., Martin's Ferry, OH, died Friday, April 6, 2001 in Crestview Health Care Center, St. Clairsville, OH. He was a retired employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Martin's Ferry Plant. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church Lion's Club , Elks Club, Italian-American Club and one of the founders of Mackey Community Association, all of Martin's Ferry. He was also a former council member. He was an alumni of St. Clairsville High School and a member of Roman Circle and Victor Emmanuel. He was one of the founders of the MR/DD for Belmont County. Preceded in death by his parents, James and Lizbeth (Cassol) Puperi; his wife, Mary Julia (Morando) Puperi. Survived by two sons and one daughter, James and Mary Puperi, and Linda Lee and Jack Myers, all of North Canton, OH and Terry and Honey Puperi of Bridgeport, OH; two brothers, Albert of Redding, CA, James and Mary Puperi of Martin's Ferry; four sisters, Philomena Zankey of Monroeville, PA, Virginia Puperi of Martin's Ferry, Perina Johnson of Lansing, OH, and Mary and Conrad Fowler of North Canton; nine grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, Martin's Ferry, Sunday 7-9 p.m. and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH. Rosary devotions will be held at 3 p.m. and wake service 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Martin's Ferry Lion's Club.

Avanell M. Johnston
Avanell M. Sue Johnston, age 86, of Canton, died Friday, April 6, 2001, after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. She was a former member of First United Church of Christ; Palm River Country Club in Naples, FL; and Shady Hollow Country Club where she had a hole in one in 1965. She presently was a member of S.A.R.A.H. Senior Center. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and Thomas Tschantz; grandchildren, Tiffany and Matthew Draper, Troy Tschantz and fiancee, Kelly Parsons, and Trent Tschantz, all of North Canton; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert in 1976. She was a sweet and gentle lady who cared so much for her family and three grandchildren, giving generously and unselfishly of herself to others. She will be missed by all of those who loved her. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Karlo Sons Funeral Home with Rev. John P. Williams, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday evening 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tschantz-Deuble Caddy Scholarship Fund, c/o Stark County Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.

David P. Jobak
David P. Jobak, age 50, went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 7, 2001, after a courageous battle with a cancerous brain tumor. He was born June 15, 1950 to Ann and Paul Jobak, Jr. David will be reunited in Heaven with his father, who died February 26, 1993. Survived by his beloved mother, Ann Jobak; aunts and uncles, Margaret and the late Danny Pezel, Mike and Rosalee Ruzinsky, Joe and Betty Rusinsky, and the late John and Isabel Ruzinsky; and cousins, Carol Jones, Joan Marie Sweigart, Larry Rusinsky, Jeanne Berring, Shirley Zakaski, Michael and Kevin Ruzinsky, and the late John Ruzinsky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton with Fr. Nicholas Mancini as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home.

Douglas J. Nupp
Douglas J. Nupp, age 54 of Canton died April 3, 2001. Born January 10, 1947 to the late Doyle and Eleanor Nupp. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served in Vietnam. Preceded in death by two brothers, Allen and Gary Nupp and one sister, Vicky Renninger. Survivors include one brother, James Nupp and three sisters, Nancy Lynn and Jackie Nichols all of Canton and Yvonne Price of Akron and one daughter, Madeline. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Calling hours in the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to services from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Burial will be Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

Isabel May Rogers
Isabel May Rogers, age 93, of Canton, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, in Aultman Hospital. A life resident of Canton, Ms. Rogers had been employed as an accountant with the former Schory and Shellhase Company and was a member of Church of The Savior United Methodist. She was preceded in death by her brother, Herbert M. Rogers in 1978. Survivors include two nephews, William S. and Diane Rogers of North Canton, OH and James A. and Jan Rogers of Springfield, IL; one great-niece, Elizabeth Morehouse; and two great-nephews, Joel and Jeffrey Rogers. Memorial service will be Tuesday 11 a.m. in Cope Chapel in Church of The Savior United Methodist with Rev. George Roberts officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of The Savior United Methodist, 120 Cleveland Avenue SW, Canton, OH 44702. The Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Julie Roush
Julie Roush, age 70, of North Canton, died at Forum Health Hospital, Youngstown on April 6, 2001. She was born April 15, 1930 in Homeworth and was a life resident of the area. She was a graduate of North Canton High School and Malone College, and attended Otterbein. She was an elementary school teacher, taught third grade for 32 years, beginning in Louisville and then Plain Local Schools. She was the daughter of Maynard and Nellie (Stroup) Hummel. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, ESL Tutor (English Second Language) and a supporter of the Humane Society. Survived by her husband, Paul Roush, whom she married November 22, 1952; daughters, Cindy Roush of Chapel Hill, NC, Paula Curley of Albuquerque, NM and Robin Bierschenk of Cincinnati, OH; four grandchildren, Andrew Curley, Lindsay Curley, Sara Curley and Julie Bierschenk; brother, Dr. Atlee Stroup of Wooster, OH; half-siblings, Janet Schibe and Robert Stroup. Preceded in death by her parents; sister, June Maxwell; brother, Lowell Stroup; half-brother, Willard Stroup; and birth parents, Carrie and Earl Stroup. Services will be Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at 11 a.m. in Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Shultz of Zion United Church of Christ, North Canton, officiating. Burial in Mt. Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday. Contributions may be made to Stark County Humane Society or American Cancer Society.

Lanta B. Richards
Lanta B. Richards, age 78 of Navarre, OH, passed away Friday evening, April 6, 2001 in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born Malvern, OH, May 29, 1922 to her parents the late Louis and Anne Ryman, she lived most of her life in the Canton-Navarre area and was a retired employee of Canton Business Machines retiring in 1989. Mrs. Richards was a member of Canton Women's Bowling Association. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Ryman and Harry Ryman. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Terra Richards of Navarre, OH; her sister, Audrey Whitehead of Zanesville, OH; two brothers, Louis Ryman and Ray Ryman both of Canton; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Matthew Richards, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday 1:30 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond L. Tucker officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Monday from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

Rosemary Walter
Rosemary Walter, age 67, of Massillon, died Friday afternoon at the Massillon Community Hospital. Rosemary was born March 8, 1934 in Canton and lived in the Canton-Massillon area most of her life. Rosemary was a 1952 graduate of McKinley High School. She was employed as a clerk for the United States Postal Service for 25 years. Her father, Joe Eslich, died with the Allied invasion at Anzio in Italy during World War II. Mrs. Walter is survived by husband, James L. Walter, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage; sons, James, Jr. of Denver, CO, John L. of Columbus, OH and Joseph L. of Denver, CO; brother, Joe Eslich of Alliance. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Tuesday (time to be announced) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Massillon. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Garden. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.

Sunny (Sonya) Black
Sunny (Sonya) Black, March 19, 1919 - April 4, 2001. Left this world after an unexpected illness. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alex; sisters, Estelle and Pauline; brother, Michael. Survived by her son, Gordon; granddaughter, Stacy; great grandson, Matthew; sister, Mary; and many additional loving and loved family members. Sunny was retired from the Peoples/RiteAid drugstore chain and wanted to thank everyone for the friendships developed during these years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a heartfelt donation be made to the American Cancer Society for research on ColoRectal Cancer at 925 S. Viola Swigart
Viola Swigart, age 95, went home to be with the Lord. Born February 9, 1906 in Hartville, OH to the late Issac and Emma Brown (Memmer). She was a member of McDonaldsville United Methodist Church and was a member of First Christian Church Sunday School. She was a former employee of the Canton Repository and was active with Children's Bureau and was a foster parent. Preceded in death by her husband, Ellery B. Swigart in 1951; three brothers, Ray, Kenneth Brown and Harold Memmer. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Ralph Meister of Canton; one granddaughter, Cindi Bules of Canton; and five grandchildren, Rebecca, David, Elizabeth, Catherine and Jonathan Bules all of Canton; and several cousins; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Revs. Manly Pierce and Charles Ulmer officiating. Private burial services will be held for the family. Calling hours in the funeral home Monday 6-9 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church Womens Ministry Fund.

Walter Stach
Walter Stach, age 88, of Dunedin, FL, formerly of Canton, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Manor Care Dunedin. Born August 21, 1912, in Germany, he was a retired supervisor at Canton Provision Company. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Clearwater, FL. Preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one son. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn J.; two sons, Walter Scott and Robert Lee Stach, both of Canton; a stepson, Larry Hammen of Dunedin; a brother, Hans Stach of North Canton; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
