Avanell M. Sue Johnston. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Karlo Sons Funeral Home with Rev. John P. Williams, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday (tonight) 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tschantz-Deuble Caddy Scholarship Fund, c/o Stark County Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.

Catina Fernandez
Catina (Silla) Fernandez, age 94, of Canton, passed away early Sunday morning in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Sicily, Italy, and had resided in this country and the Canton area for the past 91 years. She was a member of Spanish-American Center, Mayfield Senior Club and Spanish Women Club. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Sam Silla, Sr. and second husband, Lepold Fernandez; her parents, Joseph and Mary Loturno; two sons, Sam Silla and John Fearini. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Mary Silla of Canton, Nick and Marian Fernandez of Rotunda, FL, Manuel and Isa Fernandez of Massillon, and Tony Fernandez of Canton; five sisters, Josie Herrerna, Helen Herrerna, Palma Secco, Virginia McDermitt and Lena Mulherin, all of Michigan; three brothers, Joseph Loturno, John Loturno and Sam Loturno, all of Michigan; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Thomas Dyer as officiant. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

David P. Jobak
David P. Jobak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home.

Douglas J. Nupp
Douglas J. Nupp. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Calling hours in the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to services from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Burial will be Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

Isabel May Rogers
Isabel May Rogers. Memorial service will be Tuesday 11 a.m. in Cope Chapel in Church of The Savior United Methodist with Rev. George Roberts officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of The Savior United Methodist, 120 Cleveland Avenue SW, Canton, OH 44702. The Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jennifer Jo Gross
Jennifer Jo Gross, age 28, of Malvern, formerly of Canton Healthcare Center, Canton died Saturday, April 7, 2001 following a long illness. Born in Canton February 28, 1973, she is the daughter of Arthur and Cynthia (Nardo) Gross of Malvern. She is a member of St. James Catholic Church in Waynesburg and the American Diabetes Association. In addition to her parents, she is survived by sisters, Joan Gross of Canton, Julie Gross of Barberton; brother, Joe Gross of Dennison; half-sister, Tammy White of Canton; and grandmother, Barbara Nardo of Minerva. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at St. James Catholic Church, Waynesburg. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, Minerva. Calling hours will be held at the Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home, Malvern, Tuesday, April 10, 2001, 7-9 p.m. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1815 W. Market St., Suite 108, Akron, OH 44313.

Josephine Leatherberry
Josephine Leatherberry, age 90, of Augusta, died Saturday evening, April 7, 2001 in Minerva Eldercare following a long illness. She was born March 18, 1911 in Maynard, OH to Alphonse and Anna (Levins) Courtheyn. She worked for Manfull's Fruit Market for 28 years and had formerly worked at General Electric in Cleveland. She was a member of the Augusta Christian Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dean J. Leatherberry, who died July 4, 1981; several brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Joyce) Handwork of Deluth, GA and Mrs. Jim (Gaye) Savory of Cuyahoga Falls; two sons, Raymond and wife, Cindy Leatherberry of Paris and Gary Leatherberry of Minerva; a brother, Ernest Courtheyn of Augusta; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Susan Lausch officiating. Burial will be in Augusta Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday (tonight) 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to services. Memorial donations may be made to the Carroll County Hospice.

Marjory McLaughlin
Marjory J. McLaughlin, age 86, of 162 Willow Road, Carrollton, OH, died suddenly Sunday, April 8, 2001, in Aultman Hospital, Canton, OH of an apparent heart attack. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Allmon-Dugger Hively Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Barnard officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Otoria Scarpino
Otoria Dorothy (DiNuzzo) Scarpino, age 76, passed away April 7, 2001. Born March 7, 1925 in Barberton, she attended the Lakeview Church of Christ and worked at Parasson's Restaurant for 19 years. Survived by her husband of 56 years, Joseph A.H. Scarpino II; sons, Joseph (Darlene) III of Green, David (Sharon) of Barberton, John (Brenda) of North Canton; daughter, Charlotte (Al) Falcone of Canal Fulton; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret (Richard) McIntyre of Green; numerous nieces, nephews, countless friends and co-workers. Memorial services Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. at Lakeview Church of Christ, 4613 S. Main St., Akron, with Darryl Moulder officiating. Burial in Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the church in her memory.

Richard D. Shaheen
Richard D. (Jeep) Shaheen, age 71, passed away early Sunday morning in Aultman Hospital after a sudden illness. The full obit will be published in Tuesday's paper. The Rossi Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Pflieger Sr.
Robert L. Pflieger, Sr., age 78, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001 in Mercy Medical Center following a recent illness. Bob was born on May 21, 1922 in Zanesville, OH to the late Lawrence and Julia (Tipton) Pflieger. He was a World War II Army veteran where he was a machine gunner with the 83rd Infantry Division. He was the recipient of two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. Bob was employed by the Portec Co., Forging Div. as a machinist, retiring in 1983 after 37 1/2 years of service. He was an avid bowler and a member of DAV St. Michael Chapter 6 and the American Legion #0548. Bob leaves behind his loving son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. Jr and Peggy Pflieger of Louisville; one brother, Dave Pflieger of Zanesville; two sisters, Emily (Robert) Seabaugh of Zanesville and Julia (Philip) Windon of Carroll, OH; granddaughter, Cindy and great-grandson, Domonic; his sister-in-law, Harriet (Roland) Kirkendall of Louisville; nieces, Susan (John) Vesalo of Louisville and Becky (Jeff) Kline of Cincinnati; grandnieces, Laurie Vesalo and Stephanie Kline; grandnephews, Scott Vesalo and Adam Kline. Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sarah H. (McVay) Pflieger on February 28, 1993; and two brothers, Lawrence and William Pflieger. A funeral service for Bob will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home. Calling hours will be Tuesday 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.

Rosemary Walter
Rosemary Walter. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Massillon. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday (tonight) at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.

Viola Swigart
Viola Swigart. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Revs. Manly Pierce and Charles Ulmer officiating. Private burial services will be held for the family. Calling hours in the funeral home Monday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church Womens Ministry Fund.

Violet Adkins
Violet Adkins, age 87, of North Canton, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2001 in St. Luke's Lutheran Home. Arrangements are pending at the Arnold Funeral Home.
