Alfred W. Harris
Alfred W. Harris, age 57, passed away on Friday afternoon, April 6, 2001 in Mercy Medical Center, following a valiant fight with Diabetes and Kidney Disease. He was born in Detroit, MI, on July 17, 1943. He was a graduate of McKinley High School and was the former co-owner of Hair Care Showcase. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Baldwin and Caldonia Harris. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna (Brewer) Harris whom he married April 21, 1995; mother, Ruth Felder; sister, Constance Felder; brother, Roderick Fel-der all of Detroit, MI; daughter, Erika Harris of Cleveland, OH; son, Mark Harris of Canton; step-son, Sean Reid; and a host of cousins; nieces; nephews and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday April 12, 2001 at Brogdon Son Funeral Home, 1617 3rd St. N.W. Canton, OH 44704 with Rev. Clayborn Giles officiating. Calling hours will be 6-7 p.m. Thursday April 12, 2001 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation checks may be made payable to the Kidney Foundation of Ohio and mailed to Community Dialysis Center, 4685 Fulton Rd. NW, Canton, OH 44718. Annell Manielly
Annell Manielly, age 81, of Canton, retired from Perry Schools Cafeteria after 35 years of service. She attended Perry Christian Church for 30 years. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, William and Sharon Manielly of Texas; two granddaughters, Jusciunta Manielly and Stephanie Jackson; and one great-grandson, Colby Jackson. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Sunset Hills Burial Park with Rev. Doug Simpson officiating.

Arthur E. Beistel
Arthur E. Beistel, age 57, of Canton, passed away Sunday morning in Aultman Hospital after an illness of two days. He was born in Canton, a son of the late Hetrick and Elizabeth Fisher Beistel, and was a life resident. Art retired in June of 2000 from The Timken Co. after 35 1/2 years service. Following his retirement, he had been employed by H H Auto Parts. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Chu-rch and had served in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam War. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Donna D. Beistel, with whom he would have celebrated their 35th Wedding Anniversary on June 30th; one daughter, Tracy Beistel, of Massillon; one son, Todd Beistel, of Columbus; his in-laws, Donald and Elizabeth Yates, of Canton; one sister, Dorothy Culver, of Newport Richey, FL; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ted and Shirley Beistel, Tim and Janet Beistel, all of Canton; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home with Pastor C. David Morgan officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.. Friends may call Wednesday 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in Mr. Beistel's memory may be made to either the Arthritis Foundation or the Wilderness Center.

Ben J. Kish, Sr.
Ben J. Kish, Sr., age 100, of Canton, OH, passed away Saturday morning, April 7, 2001, in Altercare of Navarre following a brief illness. Born in Uniontown, PA, Jan. 20, 1901, to his parents, the late John F. and Margaret (Miller) Kish, he lived most of his life in the Canton area and was a retired employee of Sterling Bakery, retiring in 1963 after 17 1/2 years of service. He was a member of Free Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Kish of the home, to whom he was married 67 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Francis Parker of Canton, Alice and Gary Banta of Canton; two sons, Robert Gene Kish and Ben Jay Kish, Jr., both of Canton; two brothers, Edwin Kish of Chula Vista, CA and William Kish of Port Richey, FL; his sister, Rose Hardavy of Wooster, OH; one granddaughter and her spouse, Natalie and Kevin Steed and great-granddaughter, Ashley Steed. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Thursday from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Faith Fellowship Chapel Building Fund, 6282 Nave St. SW, Canton, OH 44706.

Catina (Silla) Fernandez. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Thomas Dyer as officiant. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

David P. Jobak
David P. Jobak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton. Friends may call Tuesday (tonight) 6-8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home.

Dean A. Owsley, Jr.
Dean Allen Owsley, Jr., infant son of Dean Allen and Tammy (Radcliff) Owsley, Sr. of Carrollton, died shortly before birth April 7, 2001 in Aultman Hospital. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Sierra Owsley of the home; maternal grandparents, David and Theresa Radcliff of Delroy, Jerry Burnworth of Carrollton; maternal great-grandparents, Raymond J. Lee I of Dellroy; paternal grandparents, Richard Betty Ott of Canton, Nathan and Kay Owsley of Sherrodsville; paternal great-grandparents, Vera Stephens of Kensington, Delbert Stephens of Florida. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Morges Catholic Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bud McGuire officiating. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the family.

Earl Pearlman
Earl Pearlman, age 76, of Canton, passed away Monday afternoon in his residence. Arrangements are pending at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton.

Joanne Schmidt Fawcett
Joanne Schmidt Fawcett, age 77, departed to her heavenly home while surrounded by her children and some grandchildren singing a hymn When the role is called up yonder April 7, 2001 near the end of the day someone realized she had slipped away leaving her friends and family Joanne was born in Canton, Ohio and died in Meyers Lake Village. She grew up at 13th and Whipple NW, started school at Harter for two years, then Reedurban, Lincoln and graduated from Lehman High School in 1941. She then graduated from Case Western Reserve University of Flora Stone Mather College Class of 1945, and then attended Medical Assistants School. She was a member of First Christian Church, and after marriage, Trinity Methodist (Perry Twp.), Perry Christian and Church of the Brethren, (Jackson Twp.) Joanne enjoyed being in the Perry Mother Singers group for several years, and driving a bus for Jackson Local Schools for 10 years. Joanne leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Robert M. Fawcett; daughters, Charlotte Fawcett of Akron, Elaine Fawcett Gilbert and her husband, Bill and son, Billy of Florida, Martha Fawcett Sebald and husband, Harry; stepson, Jim, and son, David of N. Canton, Kathy Fawcett Conner and husband, Joe, son Jonathan Fawcett of Carroll County, OH with three stepdaughters, Lisa Marie Conner Johnson, Leanne Rose Conner Toman, and Lorraine Rene Conner Atkinson; and sons, William and wife, Clare Quirin Fawcett, and children, Rachel, Luke, Mary, Susanna, and John of Canton Twp., and James and wife, Carol Brush Fawcett and children Amy, James, Kimberly, Charles, and Brittany of Fremont, OH. Also by a brother, Robert L. Schmidt of Brooklyn, NY. Private services were held for the family and there will be no calling hours.

John R. Lucius, Sr.
John Nicie Robert Lucius, Sr., age 42, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 6, 2001 in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Bro. John Robert Nicie Lucius, Sr. was born on June 23, 1958 in Canton, OH. He was a lifetime resident of Canton and a graduate of McKinley High School, Class of 1976. Nicie attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. Nicie was employed with UPS as a truck driver and car washer until his health caused his disability. He was a valued employee of 23 years. He remained a member of the Teamsters Local 92. Preceded in death by his parents, James and Luehieldry Lucius; grandmother, Luetisher Worship; in-laws, Arthur and Beatrice Williams. Bro. John accepted the Lord at a very early age and remained a life-time member of Mt. Calvary Second Baptist Church. Nicie's community involvement included being an Assistant Coach for the Canton Midget League Football Program. Nicie knew no strangers. He loved kids and they held a special place in his heart. His life legacy will be his love for people. He leaves to cherish his memory, and will be greatly missed by his faithful, devoted, best friend and loving wife, Linda of 21 1/2 years, of the home, to this union three lovely children were born, Sh'Rhonda Shawn of Canton, John, Jr. Jon-Jon and Marcus of the home; four grandchildren, Kyana, Kyra, Kyla and Jaonna all of Canton; brothers, Milford, Gerald Pee-Wee Lucius of Canton, Willard (Lorraine) Lucius of Georgia; sister, Patricia (Bradley) Jones of Canton; special nephews, Travis Lucius, Bradley Jones, Jr. of Canton; sister-in-law, Debra (Rev. John) Glenn of Canton; brother-in-law, Arthur Williams, Jr. of Canton; special friends, Minnie Saunders, Cathy Alexander, Krystal Cheek, Terri Cutler; special aunt, Ruthie Mackey; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Second Baptist Chu-rch, 1000 3rd St. NE, Canton, OH with Rev. Harold Hopkins, Pastor, Rev. John Glenn, officiating. Osborne Steinmetz
Osborne Steinmetz, age 80, formerly of Howenstine, died Sunday afternoon in Smith Nursing Home. Preceded in death by a brother, Carl Steinmetz and a sister, Blanche Klotz. Survived by three sisters, Belva Hart of Cuyahoga Falls, Esta Mears of Colorado and Helen Bowers of Canton. Burial was in Melscheimer Cemetery. Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. in charge of arrangements.

Patrick D. Locker
Patrick D. Locker, age 62, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday morning, April 9, 2001 in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Magnolia, OH, Nov. 14, 1938, he lived most of his life in the Canton area and was a retired employee of Aultman Hospital, retiring in 1996 after ten years of service. He will be inducted in the Amateur Softball Hall of Fame, Thursday, April 12, 2001, member of Bowling Hall of Fame and a veteran of the U.S. Locker. Preceded in death by his father, Glenn Jake Locker. Survivors include his four children and their spouses, James The Hammer Locker of Canton, Katherine and Clyde Cummins of Kodak, TN, Christopher Locker and Heather Lucas of Canton, OH, Jeffrey Locker of Taiwan; his mother and stepfather, Opal and Neal Mulgary of Canton, OH; two brothers, Glenn Locker of Canton, Clyde Locker of Polk City, FL; six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Calling hours at the funeral home two hours prior to the services on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. At the request of the family, his body will be cremated following the funeral service.

Richard D. Shaheen
Richard D. Jeep Shaheen, age 71, passed away Sunday morning at his home in Canton. Jeep, a lifetime resident of Canton, was the past manager of Tusc and Smith Market and the Director of Gaming and C.F.O. at The Wheel Cafe'. His parents were the late Moses D. Shaheen I and Selma D. Shaheen. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John D. Shaheen. He is survived by his brothers, Charles D. Shaheen, David D. Shaheen, Robert A. Shaheen; his sisters, Anna D. Shaheen, Mrs. Charles (Nellie) Joseph, Mrs. Alfred (Tess) Azar, and Mrs. J.W. (Bea) McPherson; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Jeep graduated from Canton Timken High School and was a lifetime member of The Phoenicians and St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. He was also a member of the Canton Ex-Newsboys and had served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. Services will be held Thursday with a prayer service at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home and 12 noon at the St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. John Nicholas, The Very Rev. Fr. Theodore E. Ziton and The Very Rev. Fr. George Shaheen. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the ROSSI Funeral Home. There will be a Trisagion Service at 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 1118 Cherry Ave. N.E., Canton, OH 44704.

Robert L. Pflieger Sr.
Robert L. Pflieger, Sr., age 78, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001 in Mercy Medical Center following a recent illness. Bob was born on May 21, 1922 in Zanesville, OH to the late Lawrence and Julia (Tipton) Pflieger. He was a World War II Army veteran where he was a machine gunner with the 83rd Infantry Division. He was the recipient of two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. Bob was employed by the Portec Co., Forging Div. as a machinist, retiring in 1983 after 37 1/2 years of service. He was an avid bowler and a member of DAV St. Michael Chapter 6 and the American Legion #0548. Bob leaves behind his loving son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. Jr and Peggy Pflieger of Louisville; one brother, Dave Pflieger of Zanesville; two sisters, Emily (Robert) Seabaugh of Zanesville and Julia (Philip) Windon of Carroll, OH; granddaughter, Cindy and great-grandson, Domonic; his sister-in-law, Harriet (Roland) Kirkendall of Louisville; nieces, Susan (John) Vesalo of Louisville and Becky (Jeff) Kline of Cincinnati; grandnieces, Laurie Vesalo and Stephanie Kline; grandnephews, Scott Vesalo and Adam Kline. Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sarah H. (McVay) Pflieger on February 28, 1993; and two brothers, Lawrence and William Pflieger. A funeral service for Bob will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Graham officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday (tonight) 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.

Sharon Casselberry
Sharon L. Casselberry, age 48, of Canton, died Monday morning, April 9, 2001, in her home following an extended illness. She was born in Long Beach, CA and had resided in Canton since 1993. She was formerly employed in the Clerical Department of the Target Department Store and was an active Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America. Her father, Warren Simmons, preceded her in death. Mrs. Casselberry is survived by her husband, Thomas, to whom she was married for 25 years; her sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Nikki Casselberry of Washingtonville, OH, James and Jennifer Casselberry of Massillon; stepson, Thomas Casselberry III of Inglewood, CA; grandson, Jordan Casselberry; mother, Gwen Simmons of Canton; and brother, Michael Simmons of Anaheim, CA. At Mrs. Casselberry's request, services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Casselberry home, 632 Ingram Ave. SW, Canton, OH 44710.

Sylvia Bruegger
Sylvia Carole Bruegger, age 78, of North Canton, died Saturday afternoon in Doctors Hospital following an extended illness. Born April 8, 1922, in Hemlock, WV, to the late William and Mae Bennett. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a former employee of the Timken Co. Preceded in death by two sons, William Timothy Blackmer and James Roger Blackmer; four sisters, Ada Coleman, Lamone Bennett, Minnie Clem and Gracie Russmassan; two infant brothers and brothers, Stewart Bennett, William Bennett and Harold Bennett. Survivors include her husband, Russell Bruegger; several nieces; sisters, Wilden Jarvis of McConnelsville, OH, Georgia Watson of Dayton, OH, Naomi Barnett, Adaleen Barnett and Leona Nolan, all of Zanesville and Shirley Miller of Letart, WV; and three brothers, Bobby E. Bennett, Gary Lee Bennett and William Keith Bennett, all of Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Bishop Charles Tribett and Herbert Wolter officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Thomas A. Healey
Thomas Arthur Healey, age 79, of Canal Fulton, died Sunday, April 8, 2001 at the Hospice Care Center. He was born in Wellsville, OH, on Dec. 3, 1921, the son of the late, Winfield and Cora (Adams) Healey. He attended school in Wellsville, OH, and while there, his impish and charming nature earned him the nickname Tink. After graduating from high school in 1939, he worked in the potteries of East Liverpool until he answered his country's call and joined the Navy in 1942. Serving with distinction, he ear-ned 11 Battle Stars, as head torpedo officer aboard the USS Patterson and later the USS Joseph P. Kennedy. In 1945 he married Dorothy Scott and upon completion of his naval duty he entered Kent State University. He graduated college in 1949 and his first teaching and coaching position was at his Alma Mater, Wellsville, until 1956. He took his family to Belle Vernon, PA, for two years until finally settling in Canal Fulton in 1959. His career at Northwest High School touched many lives both on and off the basketball court. As a teacher he taught Biology, Health, American History and for many years, drivers education. As a basketball coach, he compiled more than 200 victories and in 1960-61, his Indians had a record of 21-3 and reached the regional finals. He coached at Hoover High School in North Canton from 1966-69 but returned to NHS to finish his distinguished coaching career until 1974, when he took the position as athletic director. He retired in 1986 from Northwest and enjoyed a second career as a painter and traveler. After the death of his first wife, he married Janelle Staver Glicher in 1993 and spent his remaining years, traveling and making an annual trip to the Patterson reunions. More than his distinguished coaching record and service awards, he left behind a legion of dear friends. He had the opportunity to touch many, many lives and he did so for the better. He was a great leader by quiet example, never unsure of the path between right and wrong. Survivors include his wife, Janelle Nell Gilcher Healey; brother, The Rev. John (Kay) Healey of Asheville, NC; children; Scott (April) Healey of Sutton, MA; John (Denise) Healey of Iowa City, IA, Max (Patti) Healey of Pearland, TX, Chris (Debbie) Healey of Lexington, NC, Fritz (Jeanine) Healey of Canal Fulton, Alice (Duane) Boser of Canal Fulton, Susan (Charlie) Fast of Akron, Rachel (Hal) Hardie of Canal Fulton; step-children, Valerie Gilcher (Gary) Johnson of Canal Fulton, Linda Gilcher (John) Von Bonin of Charlotte, NC, Kathy Gilcher (Bill) Cole of Newport, KY; 25 grandchildren; nieces, Carolyn DeGrove and Marcy Justice; many, many dear friends. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Clinton First Church of Christ with Norman Maynard officiating. Burial with Military Honors at Union Cemetery. Visitation at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton) Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the service. Violet Adkins
Violet Adkins, age 87, of North Canton, passed away Sunday morning, April 8, 2001 in St. Luke's Lutheran Home. She was born on September 15, 1913 in Massillon to the late Charles A. Edith M. (Fourtney) Whitmer and had been a lifetime Canton area resident. Violet had been a nursing assistant at Mercy Medical Center and a member of Bethel Temple. She had a love of music and had played the organ at Canton Christian Faith Temple. Preceded in death by her husband, John Adkins in 1994 and two brothers, Merritt Lester Whitmer. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, John Sherrie Yarchak of North Canton, Lester Brenda Yarchak of Canton; sister, Kathleen King of North Canton; good friend, Eugene Husk of North Canton; three stepsons, Harlen, Paul, and John Adkins; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday 6-9 PM and one half hour prior to services Thursday 1-1:30 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Thursday 1:30 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Lemberg officiating. Final Resting Place is North Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum.

Yasuko J. Brown
Yasuko J. Brown, of Canton, passed away early Friday morning after a brief illness. Born in Kobe, Japan, she had lived most of her life in the Canton area. Preceded in death by her parents Tamiya and Yaeko Ota and a brother. She is survived by her son, Mike Krach of Maryland; grandson, Michael T. Krach, and many dear friends. As was her request there will be no calling hours or service. Those who wish may make a donation in Mrs. Brown's name to the Kidney Foundation of Ohio, Inc., 1370 West 6th St., Cleveland, Ohio 44113. The Rossi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
