Alvina C. Thomas, age 54, went home to be with the Lord on Monday April 9, 2001. She was born on May 27, 1946 in Baltimore, MD. She was employed at the city of Akron/Water Department for 10 years and a former employee of Diebold's for 22 years. Alvina is preceded in death by her sister, Regina Potter; father, Alvin Gadsden. She was a lifetime resident of Canton. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, serving as past President of the usher board, President and Instructor of the I.C.U.A. She was a graduate of McKinley High School. Left to cherish her precious memories, son, Nakia A. Thomas of New Haven, CT; daughter, Altovise Thomas of New Haven, CT; mother, Lelia Gadsden of Canton; sisters, Sheryl Ravenell of New Haven, CT., Benita Gadsden of Akron, OH; granddaughter, Kiara Thomas of New Haven, CT; and a host of aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews' other relatives and friends. Funeral services are 12 Noon Saturday April 14, 2001 at Brogdon Son Funeral Home, 1617 3rd St NE. Canton, OH 44704 with Rev. Richard L. Jordan officiating. Interment will be in Northlawn Cemetery. Anna (Ferris) Dennis
Anna (Ferris) Dennis, age 84, formerly of Minerva, died Thursday morning in the Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston following a long illness. She was born August 20, 1916, in Neffs, OH., to Joseph and Josephine (Hoffman) Kotera. She was a housewife and former employee of Thermo Devices in Minerva. She is a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minerva. She is survived by her husband, Harold Dennis who she married March 8, 1974; a son, Kenneth J. Ferris Jr. of Jonesboro, GA; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Lowell (Karen) Markins of Canton; a stepson, John Dennis of Minerva; a sister, Pauline Grimes of Minerva; four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Ferris who died March 22, 1966; three sisters and a brother, Bessie Vejvoda, Marie Ewers, Mildred Barrick, Edward Kotera. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Joseph Ertl officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
David J. Cundiff
David Jerome Cundiff, age 77, departed this life on April 11, 2001. Born to the late James R. and Emma F. Cundiff on July 7, 1923, in Yorkville, OH. He served in the United States Army in World War II. He traveled the States after being discharged from the Army. He was preceded in death by 17 other sisters and brothers. He leaves to mourn his death four sisters, Norma J. Weatherspoon, Constance B. Talley, Shirley A. Cundiff all of Canton, Gloria J. Hardy of Alliance; and three brothers, Thomas D. Cundiff, George Cundiff and William R. Cundiff all of Canton; a host of nieces and nephews; and his companion, Linda Blake of Carrollton, OH. Crematory Service by Adam and Mason.

Dorothy Hedin
Dorothy Hedin, age 80, of Seabrook of Hilton Head died Monday at the Hilton Head Medical Center and Clinics. She was born on September 24, 1920 in Mineral City, OH., and is the daughter of the late Lawrence and Anna Reidl McClelland. She moved to Hilton Head Island in 1998 from Canton, OH. She was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church of Canton. She is survived by her husband Richard A. Hedin; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott A. and Janis A.R. Hedin of Hilton Head Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Anita L. and Carleton Palmer of Norcross, GA; and three grandchildren, Jesse Palmer, Anna Palmer and Matthew Palmer. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert McClelland in 1971. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at The Seabrook of Hilton Head with Rev. William Rumsey officiating. Dylan Anthony Suggs, 3 days old, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 9, 2001. Dylan was born on April 7, 2001 in Canton, OH. He is preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Celletta Suggs; great-great-grandparents, Cola and Daisy Taylor, Christian and Vivian Fontes. Although with us only a short time, Dylan was our angel. Dylan leaves to cherish his precious memories, mother, Tawana N. Suggs; grandmother, Deborah Milini; grandfather, Willie E. Suggs, Jr.; great-grandparents, Adelino (Mary) Fontes, Willie E. Suggs, Sr.; brother, Carlin C.L. Suggs; uncles, Leroy (Shayla) Jeter, Maurice Suggs; aunt, Trina Suggs; special aunt, Candice Fontes; special cousin, Tamira Suggs; and a host of cousins and relatives. Frank Grosschmidt
Frank W. Grosschmidt, age 79, of Canton passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 11, 2001, in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after more than 30 years of service in the Canton area. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a church usher, a member of the National Assoc. of Letter Carriers, Lake P'Na Sportsman's Club, the Disabled American Veterans and AARP. He was an avid fisherman and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine, in 1996; brothers, Edward and Joe Grosschmidt; sisters, Emma Kelp and Lena Brendel. He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Grosschmidt, with whom he would have celebrated 54 years of marriage this November; a daughter, Ann (Ron) Lisk of Canton; sons, Frank M. of Canton, Michael and Ginny of East Sparta, Andrew and Debra, James, Mark and Tanya, all of Canton; sisters, Mary Schockling of Louisville, Wilma Baus of North Canton and Veronica Delaripa of California; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church with Msgr. Frank A. Carfagna as celebrant and Fr. Tim Huffman as concelebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Harry A. Hetrick
Harry A. Hetrick, age 95 of Canton, died Thursday afternoon at the Pines Nursing Home. He was born in Reedsville, PA, and had lived in Canton since 1953. He was retired from Shearer Market and was a member Epworth United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by his wife, Ruth July 6, 1986; a son, Orris Hetrick; and four sisters. Survived by daughter-in-law, Donna Hetrick; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Church Hill Cemetery in Reedsville, PA. Ivan Snyder
Ivan Snyder, age 90 of North Port, FL, formerly of Canton, passed away Monday afternoon in his residence. He was born in Wilmot, OH, a son of the late Jacob and Caroline Gardner Snyder, resided in North Port 26 years, previously residing in Canton 38 years. Mr. Snyder retired in 1976 from U.S. Steel, after over 30 years service, where he was a machinist. He and his late wife owned Madeline's Beauty Shop in Canton for 30 years. He had attended Trinity United Methodist Church in North Port. He had been a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Steel Credit Union. Preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Snyder, on April 19, 1994, a daughter, Dawn Marie Snyder, sister, Gladys Crabtree, and a brother, Paul Snyder. Survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie Snyder of Los Angeles, CA and Leila and Richard Mercorelli of Bolivar; one son and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Ruthie Snyder of Vermillion, OH; four grandchildren, Jakob Snyder and his wife, Kathie of Lorain, OH, Louis Mercorelli of Sydney, Australia, Gina Mercorelli of Pittsburgh, PA and Jodi Carohl of Lorain, OH; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Norman (Dorothy) Albright of New Concord, OH; one brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Margaret Snyder of Walnut Creek, OH; and a brother-in-law, Ira Crabtree of Medina, OH. Services will be conducted Monday at 12 Noon in the Formet-Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Winner officiating. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery in Wilmot, OH. Mary L. Robinson
Mary L. Robinson, age 96, of Summerfield, FL, a former resident of Canton, OH, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Speciality Care of Lady Lake, FL. Mary was a 68 year resident of Canton, OH until 1998. She was born Sept. 4, 1904, in Stratton, OH (formerly Ekeyville, OH), the daughter of John W. and Emma Dunlap Ekey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Marshall F. Robinson in 1974. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Ekey and a sister, Esther Macmillan. Mary was a dedicated school teacher. She taught in Empire, OH, for two years and then at Canton's Martin and Allen grade schools for 27 years. She actively pursued a life long interest in genealogy as a member of the Jefferson County Historical Society. In 1976 she wrote The Village of Stratton story and co-wrote the History of Hollow Rock Camp Meeting. Mary was a member of the Empire United Methodist Church, Empire, OH. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Marshall J. and Phyllis Robinson of Summerfield, FL; two grandsons, Mark S. Robinson of Canton and Brian K. Robinson of Palatine, IL; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren. Richard D. Gruber, age 68, of Canton, passed away April 11, 2001 after a brief illness. Born Jan 21, 1932 he retired from Diebold. Preceded in death by his mother, Grace (Nist) Gruber; father, Charles Richard Gruber; sister, Mildred (Steele -Gruber) Koons. Survived by niece, Gail L. (Koons) Dailey. Ruby P. Kamp
Ruby P. Kamp, age 95 of the Canton Christian Home, formerly of North Canton passed away Tuesday April 11, 2001 at the Christian home. She was born in Spencerville, OH on Oct. 1, 1905 to the late Michael and Lilly B. (Loughridge) Shaffer. She was a former employee of the Hoover Co. and North Canton Public Schools as a cafeteria manager. Survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ned Kamp of Shelby, OH., Nile and Darlene Kamp of Woodsfield, OH., Phil and Libby Kamp of New Holland, PA; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Bernice Sloan of Apache Junction, AZ; and brother, William Herbert Shaffer of Mogadore. Preceded in death by her husband, Carl; son, David; grandson, Daniel; sisters, Ruth Shaffer and Mamie Whitlow; and brothers, Lawrence, Berlin and Harold Shaffer. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the Canton Christian Home with Chaplin Ron Iwanusa officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Russell B. Frank
Russell B. Frank, age 72, of Jackson Township, died Tuesday in the home after a courageous three year battle with cancer. His parents were the late Leo and Edna Boron Frank. He lived his entire life on the farm which had previously been owned and farmed by his father and grandfather. Farming was his passion, having been in the Dairy Business in his younger years, and more recently had a beef and grain operation. He was also employed for 19 years at the Kent State University Stark Branch, retiring in 1986 as Building and Grounds Superintendent. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, with a gentle spirit and a true love of God and his Catholic Faith. Russell and his wife enjoyed 25 years of Western Square Dancing in the area. He was a charter member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Eugenia (Genie) Gill Frank; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Les Moor, and Melissa and Bradley Metzger, all of Jackson Township; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Judith Frank of Dalton, OH; six grandchildren, Jonathan and Heather Moore, Jordan and Megan Metzger and Brian and Sarah Frank; a sister, Catherine Werner of Jackson Township; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Wilma Frank of Jackson Township, Leo and Wilma Frank and Donald and Elizabeth Frank all of Lawrence Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. Leo Wehrlin as celebrant. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
