Amelia Henkelmann
Amelia C. Henkelmann, age 88, of North Canton, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2001, at St. Luke Lutheran Home. She was born in Chicago, IL, Oct. 2, 1912, to the late Charles and Amelia (Dietz) Helwig. She was a member of the First Brethren Church of Sarasota, FL. Amelia was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in 1969; a son, Alfred O. Henkelmann, Jr.; a daughter, Janice Cohan. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, June and William Reese of Louisville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Union Cemetery, Louisville, with Pastor Jean Hansen officiating. There will be no calling hours. Stier-Israel Funeral Home of Louisville in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Luke Lutheran Home of North Canton.
Christina L. Sutton
Christina L. Sutton, age 29, of 7055 Canal Lane, Malvern died suddenly Sunday April 15, 2001. She was born in Medina, OH., to Mike and Alvina (Moltz) Voshall. She was a housewife, a member of the Minerva First Presbyterian Church, attended Edison College and was a Five Beta Capa. She was also member of the NEOPC, and MDA Sponsor. In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband, David Sutton of whom she marries May 4, 1996; two daughters, Victoria and Grace Sutton of the home; Mother-in-law, and Father-in-law, David and Sandy Sutton of Minerva; a brother, Mike Malott of West Salem, OH; 1/2 brother, Michael Malott of Canton, OH. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Gotchall - Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Eric Pasanchin officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Doris Ann Caniford
Doris Ann Caniford, age 73, of Morgantown, WV., formerly of North Canton, OH., died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles W. Caniford; two sons and spouses, Charles W. II and Terri Caniford of Southlake, TX., Tom and Emily Caniford of North Canton, OH; one daughter, Charlene Shelton of Pittsburgh, PA; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home, Morgantown, WV., on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Stacy L. Frank S. Sabo
Frank S. Sabo, age 52, of Canton, died unexpectedly in his home Friday, April 13, 2001. Born in Akron, Frank had lived the past four years in Canton. Frank served in the Marine Corp. from 1966-68 during the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post #44 in Canton. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Sabo, in 1995. Frank is survived by his mother, Helen Sabo of the residence; sister, Helen J. Vandever; niece, Vicki Boughton; and nephews, Steve and Tracy Vandever all of Greentown, OH. Funeral service was private for the family only.
Harold Beltz, Jr.
Harold Earl Beltz, Jr., age 70, of Louisville, loving husband and father, passed away Monday, April 16, 2001, in Mercy Medical center following a recent illness. Earl was born October 4, 1930, in Sherrodsville, and was the son of the late Harold E. and Agnes (Sickles) Beltz, Sr. Earl was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a former supervisor for Ohio Bell. He was a member of the F.O.E. Louisville Aerie #2374. Earl will always be remembered for his love of the game of golf , which he enjoyed with his friends every chance he had. Earl is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Shirley (Zwick) of the home whom he married November 8, 1952; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jody Beltz of East Canton; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Arlie Cornell of Canton; numerous nieces and nephews; and special golfing friends, Ike, Harry and Steve. Funeral services for Earl will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Gantz of Mapleton United Methodist Church officiating. Hazel Bowe
Hazel Bowe, age 88, of Canton, OH, went home to be with the Lord, passing away Sunday evening in the McKinley Life Care Center. Born in Canton on January 30, 1913, she was the daughter of the late George and Bertha Reusing. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and a former member of A.G. Stafford Bowling League. She was retired from the Ohio Power Company and besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Reusing and Marie Caldwell; and one son, Carl Bowe. Survivors include one son, Gerald Bowe of Canton; three grandchildren, Tammy Bowe-Pellicer of Los Angeles, CA, Hope Kennedy of Canton, and Gerald Bowe, Jr. of Canton; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday (TODAY) at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Father Timothy Huffman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peters Cemetery. Helen W. Britton
Helen W. Britton, 85, of North Canton, OH, formerly of Wintersville, OH, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at home of natural causes. She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on Sept. 22, 1915, a daughter of the late William and Janet Watson Buglass. Member of First Westminister U.P. Church, Steubenville, OH, and the Daughters of Scotia. She was a retired buyer for the shoe department at the former Hub of Steubenville. Preceded in death by her husband, Russell L. Bud Britton, whom she married October 16, 1935. He died on September 7, 1996. Survivors include daughter, Mrs. Richard (Janet Mae) Cowles of North Canton, OH; four granddaughters; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Kathleen M. Shively
Kathleen Marie (Nesbitt) Shively, age 52, of Perry Twp., passed away Monday morning at the home following an extended illness. Born in Canton on November 12, 1948, she was a 1966 graduate of Perry High School and a 1970 graduate of Malone College. She was a former teacher, having taught English at Perry High School and Fairless High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Canton. Preceded in death by her father, Edward Nesbitt. Survivors include her husband, Frederick L. Shively of the home; three children, Michael D. Shively of Perry Twp., Elizabeth J. LaMantia and husband, Matthew of North Canton, and Douglas L. Shively of Perry Twp.; her mother, Janet Nesbitt of Perry Twp.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Edwina and John Newell of Dayton, OH, and Margaret and Charles Brogan of Carrollton, OH; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Manley Pierce officiating. Burial will be in the Moultrie Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and one hour before services on Thursday 10-11 a.m.
Lucy L. Brinkman
Lucy L. Brinkman, age 103, a resident of Altercare of Canton, formerly of Sandyville, passed away there Sunday evening. She was born in New Cumberland, OH, a daughter of the late J.O. and Lide McKinney Fry, and was a life resident of the Mineral City-Sandyville area. She and her late husband owned and operated the formerly Sandy Valley Inn and also were self-employed farmers. Mrs. Brinkman was a member of East Sparta United Methodist Chu-rch. Preceded in death by her husband, William F. Brinkman, on Jan. 2, 1984, a son, William Brinkman, Jr., in 1945, and a daughter, Betty Barkheimer in 2000. Survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Cable and Lois and Bill Swinford, all of Sandyville, and Nancy and Joel Black of East Sparta; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Se-rvices will be held Wed. at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Nancy Manner officiating. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery in Sandyville. Margaret Dittmar
Margaret Peggy Dittmar, age 93, formerly of Massillon, and more recently of North Canton, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 15, 2001, in Massillon Community Hospital. Margaret was born in Antioch, OH., on February 19, 1908, to the late Dessie (Brown) and Ollie Huffman. She came to Canton in 1942 when she went to work for the Timken Roller Bearing Co. In 1952 she married Carl Dittmar Sr., and they went to live in Perry Twp.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, who died in January 1994; also preceding her in death were three brothers, Edward, Jim and Bob. She is survived by a step-daughter, Norma Jean Boscia of North Canton; a sister, Zillah Self of Canton; four step-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Dittmar and LuLa Belle Huffman both of North Canton; three nephews and two nieces. Peggy was one of the oldest members of Zion United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Deb Beaver officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home Tuesday (tonight) 6-8 p.m.
Margaret VanHorn
Margaret E. VanHorn, age 94, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, April 15, 2001. Born in Johnsville, OH, October 24, 1906, to her parents the late Walter A. and Maude E. (Forrest) Rabold, she lived most of her life in the Canton area. Mrs. Van Horn was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. VanHorn. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Paul Holl of Canton, OH; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Jean VanHorn of Marblehead, OH; her sister, Catherine Woodward of Finley, OH; five grandchildren and their spouses, Susan and Jim Hulse, Kim and Debbie Holl, Jeff and Denise Holl, Gail and Mike Whitcomb, Denise VanHorn; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Private services will be conducted in the Chapel of Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Raymond L. Tucker officiating. There will be no calling hours. Marjorie M. Kammer
Marjorie M. Kammer, age 86, died Monday at Englewood Nursing Home in Fort Wayne, IN. Born in Fort Wayne, she was a secretary with Lindenwood Cemetery for ten years and retired in 1968. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline Gipson of Salcha, AK and Janice Robinson of Canton, OH; two brothers, Willard McNutt Sr. of New Jersey and Calvin McNutt, Jr. of Rochester, MN; sister, Betty Nelson of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack B. in September 1996. Graveside services 11 a.m. Thursday at Lindenwood Cemetery, 2324 W. Main St. Calling hours 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at D.O. Mary Grace Goss
Mary Grace (Presutti) Goss, age 76, passed away early Monday morning in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. She was life resident of Canton, a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, and was a former member of Miraculous Medal Society. She was a retired employee of Schuman/People Drug Stores for 35 years as a clerk and she also worked at the Timken Co. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Goss who passed away on March 16, 1992; her parents, James and Anna (she passed away after childbirth) and he remarried Rose (Tata) Presutti and she became her mom; two sisters, Ida Kosunick and Elise Presutti; one brother, Anthony Presutti. She is survived by two sons, William C. (Butch) Goss Jr. of the home and Jeffrey Goss of Massillon; one daughter, Mary Jo Bianchi and fiance, Pete Schehl of Canton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Nancy Presutti Jr., Richard and Vonda Presutti; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and George Quillen, Linda and Robert Frenz, Laura and Andy Pertginides, Josephine Griffith, Patricia and James Tolley; six grandchildren, Larry, Sean and Ashley Bianchi, Melinda M., William Jeffrey and Sarah Rose Goss; great grandchildren, William Goss II and Paula Goss and my angel baby, Leonna Grace Bianchi and three special girls, Stefanie, Miranda and Stacey; her dearest friend, Yola D'Antonio. Mass of Christian Burial will be sung Thursday, April 19 at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Church with Rev. Fr. Tom Bishop as celebrant. Interment will be in Northlawn Cemetery. Mary P. Douglas, age 75, of Canton, died Saturday evening. She retired from Convoy Inc. and was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 1985. Survived by her four sons, Donald, Patrick, Marlin and Charles; daughter, Levina; four sisters, Myrtle, Pearl, Christine and Stella; grandchildren and great grandchildren. Melford J. Huston
In loving memory of Melford J. Huston, age 77, of Canton, passed away Saturday morning at his home following an extended illness. He was a Canton area resident for 52 years. He retired from the U.S. Post Office after serving in the Army during World War II. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Canton and a life member of St. Mihiel Chapter #6 DAV. Survived by his loving wife, Mary L. Huston of 53 years; a devoted and loving daughter, Peggy L. Berardelli of Canton; another daughter, Kathy J. Mastroianni of Texas; a son, David A. Huston of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild. Robert C. Elsass
Robert Charles Elsass, age 85, of Waynesburg, passed away Sunday afternoon in his residence following a brief illness. He was born in Waynesburg, a son of the late John W. and Florence Dieringer Elsass, and was a life resident. He was a 1933 graduate of Waynesburg High School and served as a Sergeant in the 879th Bomb Squad Division in the U.S. Army from 1942-45. As a life-long resident, Mr. Elsass owned and operated the Elsass Ben Franklin Store in Waynesburg for 41 years, retiring in 1987, ending 110 years of the family run business. He was active in several business and community organizations, including Waynesburg Business Assoc., the Rotary Club, and Sandy Valley American Legion Post #432. As a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church he served on many board committees. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Kathryn Elsass, George and Allahda Elsass, and Frank Elsass, and a sister, Evelyn Elsass. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Mae (Eisele) Elsass, with whom he celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary on Feb. 24, 2001; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Susan Elsass of Minneapolis, MN; his daughter and son-in-law, Jill and John Reyes of Akron; four grandchildren, James N. and Emily Elsass, Sarah and Jack Reyes; two brothers and a sister-in-law, his twin brother Russel Elsass of Magnolia, and Paul and Dorothy Elsass of Sebring, OH; a sister-in-law, Helen Elsass of Austin, TX; and many nieces and nephews. The service of Resurrection will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Marlin Drake and Rev. Jean Hansen officiating. Rose H. Kelesidis, age 87, of Canton, passed away Monday morning after an extended illness. Born in Constantinople, Turkey. She lived most of her life in the Canton area. A member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Koraes Ladies Society and the Senior Citizens of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Preceded in death by her parents, Fotios and Vasiliki Hasiotis; husband, George Kelesidis; brother, Thomas Hasiotis; daughter, Cleonora Bozekas. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Kalliope Kelesidis of Canton; son-in-law, Angelo G. Bozekas of Canton; grandchildren and spouses, Roseann and Gust Athans, Roseann and Mathew LiCause, George and Jennifer Bozekas; great-grandchildren, Angela M. LiCause, Jon Bozekas, Christopher Bozekas, Nicolette Athans; nieces, Pat and Norma St. Jean, Betsy and Andy Lazaris; sister-in-law, Meta Hasiotis of Canton. Springer Anderson
Springer N. Anderson, age 75, of Canton, died unexpectedly Saturday in Aultman Hospital. Son of the late Nathan and Amanda (Dean) Anderson. He was a Canton area resident for the past 41 years, retiring from the Timken Co. in 1986 after 34 years of service. He had also served as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for 38 years. Member of the Canton Baptist Temple, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3228, VFW Post #693, the Father and Son Hunt Club, AARP. and the William McKinley Lodge #431 F AM. He was World War II Navy veteran. Survived by his wife, Helen (Davis) to whom he was married 60 years; one sister, Rosella Loudermilk of Pennsylvania; two stepbrothers, Richard DeBerry of Georgia, Junior DeBerry of New York; one stepsister, Debbie Holland of Houston, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Private family services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. The Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. is in charge of arrangements.

Terri Jo Capes, age 39, of Carrollton, died early Monday morning April 16, 2001 in her home following a seven month illness. She was born Feb. 17, 1962 in Canton, daughter of James A. and Charlotte N. Thompson Wilcox of Canton. Terri was a customer relations representative of National Lime and Stone Corp. in the Waco office. She was a member of Carrollton Trinity Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband, Kenneth Capes, whom she married July 16, 1999; two sons, Jessie and Joshua, both of the home; one daughter, Shiann of the home; four brothers, James Wilcox of East Canton, Todd Wilcox of Canton, Chris Wilcox of Canton, Lance Wilcox of Canton; one sister, Julie Walkup of Minerva; paternal grandmother, Flossie Wilcox of Barnesville; mother-in-law, Nancy Capes of Carrollton; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Terri was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Clarence Wilcox; paternal grandmother, Julie Coutter; father-in-law, Kenneth Capes. Vivian F. Wheeler, age 77, of Canton, OH, passed away Sunday evening in the Altercare of Hartville, following an extended illness. Born in Kenova, WV, on Sept. 10, 1923, she was a retired Security Office at K-Mart, retiring in 1986 after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple and was preceded in death by her parents, Flem Jack and Rebecca Susan Akers; also by two brothers; two sisters; grandson, Ronnie Rohr. Survivors include five daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Cletus Rohr of Canton, Sandra and Ernest Albaugh of Ravenna, OH, Marsha and David Bissell of Canton, Pamela Spencer of North Canton and Cindy Fobes of Suffield, OH; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother; three sisters.
