A. Wayne Deibel, age 86, of North Canton, died Tuesday in Aultman Hospital after a short illness. He was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, having received a degree in architecture from Carnegie Institute of Technology. He had retired from BF Goodrich in 1982 after 40 years of service. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where he was a former Consistory member, Trinity Lodge #710 FAM, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, North Canton Elks BPOE #2029, Delta Tau Delta, and Oakwood Country Club. He was also a former member of the North Canton School Board and North Canton Lions Club. Survived by wife, Margaret of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Bill Wiley of Atlanta and Molly and Tom Robinson of Cincinnati; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter, Lynn Fulmer in 1999. Memorial services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Zion United Church of Christ with Rev. Eli Klingensmith officiating. Arthur J. Carman
Arthur John Carman, age 79, of Minerva, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Aultman Hospital following a short illness. He was born in Minerva, OH, June 30, 1921, the son of the late Frank and Frances (Todd) Carman. He worked as a laborer on the railroad. He is survived by sons, John Carman Pachmayer, Robert Carman Pachmayer and Thomas Leech, all of Canton; son, Arthur Carman of Salineville; daughters, Bonnie Carman and Peggy A. Graham, both of East Liverpool, Alice J. Carman of Aliquippa, PA and Tina Ditty of Canton; sisters, Catherine Carman and Maxine Heistand, both of Minerva; brother, Paul Carman of Minerva; friend and companion, Ruth Metzger of Minerva; 27 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, Bob, Earl, Chuck and Virgil Carman; sisters, Bertha Heuer and Ruth Miller; daughter, Judy Little; stepson, David E. Morris III. Funeral services will be at the Bartley Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2001, with Mr. Ralph Norman officiating. Burial in East Lawn Cemetery in Minerva. Betty J. Selway
Betty J. Selway, age 75 of Largo, FL, formerly of Canton passed away April 16, 2001 at Largo Medical Center in Largo, FL. Born in Canton, OH and had lived in Largo, FL since 1980. She was of Catholic Faith. Survived by son, Larry Selway of Largo, FL; and a nephew, Chris Selway of Jacksonville, NC. Memorial services will be held at East Bay Chapel on Friday at 5 p.m. with Rev. Curtis Hess officiating. National Cremation Society-Clearwater.
Boyce A. Reinwald
Boyce A. Reinwald, age 61, a former Hanoverton and Canton resident, passed away following a heart attack April 2, 2001 in Ocala, FL. Mr. Reinwald was born October 22, 1939, in Cincinnati, the son of Ernest and Ruth (Lewis) Reinwald. He worked as a crane operator for Republic Steel in Canton, retiring in 1999. A US Army veteran, he was a black belt in Karate, having been a member of a club in Canton. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Pagnotta) Reinwald, whom he married Nov. 11, 1961; two daughters, Lisa Ann Reinwald of Guilford Lake and Lori E. Reinwald of Hanoverton; brother, Francis of Cincinnati; three grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Rohrer and brother, Richard is deceased. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
David Adams
J. David Adams, age 60, of Naples, FL., died Monday, March 26, 2001. Mr. Adams had lived in Canton, OH for many years before moving to Naples, FL. He had retired as Executive Director for the Canton YMCA after 32 years. He was a member of the Canton Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Agape Food Ministry, Taught Celebration of Marriage with his wife, Judy at First Friends, and worked with the United Way of Central Stark County. He then served as a missionary with OMS International serving in Hong Kong, Macau, and Equador. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Humes) Adams; mother, Marjorie Adams; four children, Michelle Uptegrove, Jeffrey Adams, Lisa Miller and Heather Ritzert; brother, Dale Adams; sister, Beth Rinehart; and eight grandchildren. Friends are invited to call Saturday, April 21, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Dueber United Methodist Church. A Memorial service will be held Sunday, April 22, 2001 at 4 p.m. at First Friends Church, Canton, OH. Dorothy L. Cornelius
Dorothy L. Cornelius, age 97, of Melbourne, FL, formerly Canton, passed away Friday afternoon in Tandem Health Care where she had been residing. She was born in Canton, a daughter of the late James and Lillie Lewton Davis and had resided here until moving to Melbourne nine years ago. Preceded in death by her husband, Clayton H. Cornelius and a son, Jim Cornelius. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Louis Lamielle of Palm Bay, FL; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. C. David Morgan officiating. There will be no calling hours. The Formet-Clevenger Gordon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Harold B. Festerly
Harold B. Festerly age 80 of North Canton died Monday evening in the Aultman Hospital Emergency Room after a brief illness. He was an Air Force veteran of WWII and a graduate of Ohio University. He retired from Republic Steel and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel on Chenoweth Rd. in Akron; Rose Club; John Birch Society; Canton area Right to Life; and the Toastmaster. Survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Connee Mick of Canton, Janice Festerly of North Canton, Rosanne Bob Ashmore of Oceanside, CA, and Marilyn Dean Showalter of Albuquerque, MN; son and daughter-in-law, Duane Sophie Festerly of Santee, CA; nine grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Don (Marjorie) Youngblood of San Diego. Preceded in death by his granddaughter, Deborah Festerly. Requiem High Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel. James H. Moran
James H. Moran, age 91, of Canton, passed away Monday morning in Altercare of Canton after a brief illness. He was born in Warrick, OH., a son of the late William C. and Catherine Rich Moran, and had been a Canton resident most of his life. Mr. Moran retired in 1971 from Hercules Engines, after 35 years of service, where he was an assembler. He was a 60 year member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Irene N. Moran, on May 27, 1999; five sisters and four brothers. Survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Don and Carol Moran, of Canton, and Ralph Moran, of Warren, OH; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Formet-Clevenger and Gordon Funeral Home with Hospice Chaplin Paul Rudy officiating. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. James W. Lousoff
James W. Lousoff, age 70, of Waynesburg, passed away Monday morning in his residence after a lengthy illness. He had been a Waynesburg resident for 46 years, and retired in 1987 from Ford Motor Co., after 28 years of service, where he was a metallurgist and head of the Quality Control Dept. Jim was a member of Waynesburg Presbyterian Church and Sandy Valley American Legion Post #432. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Ina Ruth Lousoff, with whom he celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2000; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Mary Lousoff of Massillon; a niece, Mrs. Ron (Bry-nlyn) Lehmann of Helena, MT. Services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. James M. Hodsden officiating. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. John H. Geers, age 62, formerly of Canton, and more recently Malta, died Monday evening in Cleveland Clinic Hospital following complications of a heart transplant. He was born in Dover, the son of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (Geib) Geers. Employed by American Electric Power. An Army veteran. Preceded in death by daughter, Joan Marie Geers. Survived by his wife, Carolyn (McCartney) Geers; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Dan Page of Navarre, Christine and Roland Rodriguez of Lake Jackson, TX, Jean and David Schlabach of Dover, stepson, Robert Pfouts of Centreville, VA; four grandchildren, Jesse and Shawn Schlabach, Casey and Zac Page; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Ray Ammons of Dover; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence Jr. and Virginia Geers of Zoar, Charles and Carol Geers of Dover, Jerry and Sue Geers of Elmore. Josephine A. DiCola
Josephine A. (Vitale) DiCola, age 87, of North Canton, died Tuesday morning, April 17, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a life resident of Canton and a former employee of Rice Dry Cleaners. Josephine was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and St. John's Guild. She lived her life unselfishly and was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Victor, on January 13, 2001; her parents, Leone and Francesca (Pidala) Vitale; five sisters, Rose Vitale, Vicki Hildebrandt, Jennie Norcia, Mary Marsh and Frances Barbera; two brothers, Joe and Leo Vitale; and great-grandson, John James Kulwicki. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Frances DiCola, Lee and Dorothy DiCola of North Canton and Victor and Cecelia DiCola, all of North Canton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia DiCola of North Canton and Maryanne and Skip Shaw of Hartville; 14 grandchildren, Laura, Dave, Rick, Michelle, Cherie, Ellen, James, Victor, Marcy, Chris, Michael, David, Tony and Nicholas; and 17 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Victoria, Anna, Castanza Christopher, Francesca, Clayton, Marie, Abby, James, Daniel, Ellie, Benjamin, Carmella, Abby Jo, Holly and Olivia. She is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clara and Sam Purses; one sister-in-law, Dolores Vitale; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Norcia and Jim Marsh all of Canton; and many nieces and nephews. Maxine M. Hale, age 74, of Canton, OH, passed away peacefully Monday evening, April 16, 2001, in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Massillon, OH, July 24, 1926, to her parent the late Warren and Alice Myers, she lived most of her life in the Canton area and was a retired employee of the State of Ohio, retiring in 1990 after 25 years of service. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L. Ostrander, second husband, Clarence W. Bill Hale, Jr., her brother, Warren Myers, Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Robin Hardesty of Canton, OH; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Rick Ostrander and Dr. Joann Gardner of Crofton, Maryland; one brother, Roger Myers of Canton, OH; one sister, Gayle Worley of Louisville, OH; stepchildren and their spouses, Steven and Tammy Hale of North Huntingdon, PA, Michael and Shelley Hale of North Canton, OH, Gail Ann Hale of Rohnert Park, CA, Terri and Dan Fitzgerald of Coral Springs, FL; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step gra-ndchildren; and a host of dear friends. Mildred J. (Mickey) Clark Oleno, age 81, formerly of Canton Towers in Canton passed, away Sunday in Minvera Eldercare, Minerva, OH after long illness. She was born in Canton on February 5, 1920 to the late Charles and Anna Beeson and she retired as a waitress from the Canton Grill Inn, Canton. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Lester Beeson; her sister, Dorothy Wilson. She is survived by her brothers, Richard Beeson of Hemet, CA; daughter, Patricia (Clark) Goldberg of Santee, CA; sons, Richard (Clark) Chance of Detroit, MI, and Charles Clark of Morro Bay, CA. She also leaves seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Margie Dadisman of Canton. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Wackerly Funeral Home with Deacon Donald Wilson officiating. Myrtle R. Ehlers, age 94, of North Canton, died Monday morning at St. Lukes Lutheran Home. A 1928 graduate of the former Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing (now Massillon Community Hospital), with affiliation at Babies and Childrens' Hospital and Case Western Reserve. Charter member of the Stark County Dental Society Auxiliary. Charter member of the Altar Guild of Zion Lutheran Chu-rch, North Canton. Member of North Canton Garden Club. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Ehlers, D.D.S. Survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Nancy Anne Ehlers of Carmel, IN; grandchildren, Greg, Eric, and Joel. Memorial Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, North Canton. The family will receive friends following the service. Robert H. Pickard, age 78, of Canton, died Monday in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. A life resident of Canton, he was a 1942 graduate of McKinley High School. He was a Machinist at E. W. Bliss and retired from Babcock Wilcox as a Process Engineer. Bob was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and the Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club. He was an inductee in the McKinley High School Football Hall of Fame. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy. Survived by his wife, Charlotte Pickard of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ray Yingling, and Kathie and Bob Miller, all of Perry Heights; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob H. Jr. and Rita Pickard of Dublin, OH; six grandchildren, Denise Czekansky, Mark Yingling, Jen and Kristy Miller, and Katie and Brian Pickard; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and June Pickard of Canton. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Nellie Pickard; a sister, Ruth Fleming, and a brother, Tom Pickard. Robert J. O'Connor
Robert J. O'Connor, of Prospect, OH, formerly Bay Village, OH, died April 13, 2001 at Marion Manor, Marion, OH. He was born October 30, 1915 at Wellsville, NY., to James P. and Helen (Sleeper) O'Connor. On November 26, 1938, he married Ruth (Morgan) O'Connor in Bay Village. She preceded him in death on March 8, 1995. He retired as a maintenance supervisor at the Ford Motor Company after 25 years of service, was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons for 50 years, the Bay United Methodist Church, a Bay Village Republican Precinct Captain for many years and an avid golfer. He is survived by three daughters, Sally O'Connor of Marion and Wilmot, OH., Susan (Bruce) Thielen of Keene, NH, Kathryn (Randall) Johnson of Prospect; and six grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth is deceased. Memorial services will be held at the Prospect United Methodist Chu-rch, Prospect, OH., on April 28, 2001 at 11 a.m., and at the Bay United Methodist Church, Bay Village, OH on April 29, 2001 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Roberta A. Haas, age 64, of Canton, Ohio, passed away Monday evening in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Canton on April 19, 1936, she was the daughter of the late, Paul and Ann Ritz. She was a retired employee for the Rehabilitation Services Commission of Ohio, retiring in 1991 after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Canton Christian Fellowship Church. Survivors include her husband, William C. Haas of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Debra Haas of Canton; step-daughter and husband, Mildred and Gary Roland of Alliance, OH; grandson, Jordan J. Haas of Canton; there are three step-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Mariam Ritz of Canton; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Don Hammond of Canton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Dolores Haas of East Canton; there are several nieces and nephews. Rose H. Kelesidis, age 87, of Canton, passed away Monday morning after an extended illness. Born in Constantinople, Turkey. She lived most of her life in the Canton area. A member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Koraes Ladies Society and the Senior Citizens of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Preceded in death by her parents, Fotios and Vasiliki Hasiotis; husband, George Kelesidis; brother, Thomas Hasiotis; daughter, Cleonora Bozekas. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Kalliope Kelesidis of Canton; son-in-law, Angelo G. Bozekas of Canton; grandchildren and spouses, Roseann and Gust Athans, Roseann and Mathew LiCause, George and Jennifer Bozekas; great-grandchildren, Angela M. LiCause, Jon Bozekas, Chri-stopher Bozekas, Nicolette Athans; nieces, Pat and Norma St. Jean, Betsy and Andy Lazaris; sister-in-law, Meta Hasiotis of Canton. Tim D. Welch
Tim D. Welch, age 46, of Malvern died Sunday afternoon as the result of an auto accident. Tim was born on April 2, 1955 in Canton. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a 1973 graduate of Lincoln High School and was employed by the City of Canton. Preceded in death by one brother, William E. (Eddie) Welch Jr; and his grandparents, Frank and Anna Bonevich, Robert and Margaret Welch. He was the beloved husband, of Jayne (Trascik) Welch of the home; and the loving father of Dustin, David and Timothy William Welch of North Canton. He is also survived by his loving parents, William E. Sr. and Nila Welch of Canton; one brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Tina Welch of Waynesburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Chris and Steve Harrison of Canton; two nephews, Douglas Welch and Nick Harrison; two nieces, Emily Harrison and Elyse Welch; and his golden retriever, Brittany. Walter J. Byers, age 80, of Canton, died Tuesday in Mercy Medical Center. He was an Army veteran of World War II, retiring from the Canton Repository. He attended Grace Brethren Church. Survived by wife, Norma of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Hamel of Canton, Holly and Rev. Hank Roso of Illinois, Carolyn and Timothy Buck of North Canton, Marilyn Barnes and Amie Lose, both of Canton; grandchildren, Beth Ann Garden, Tina Turner and Sheryl Rexrode; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Bergmeyer. Preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy, in 1986. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Karlo Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Hank Roso officiating. William E. Meredith
William E. Meredith, age 91, of North Canton, passed away Tuesday morning in Aultman Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Johnstown, PA, a son of the late Harry and Eliza Yingling Meredith, and had been a Canton resident about 25 years. He retired in 1970 from the Penn-Central Railroad, after 49 years service, where he was supervisor of large equipment. Mr. Meredith was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and Deacon; the Masonic Lodge of New York; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton; Tadmor Temple; and Ad Asta Chapter #71, O.E.S., of Homestead, FL. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Mabel L. Meredith, with whom he celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary on June 17, 2000; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and William Lofdahl of Canton, and Linda and Ted Anthony, of Massillon; one son, Robert Meredith, of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Calvary Presbyterian Church with Pastor C. David Morgan officiating. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Zania S. Terse
Zania S. Terse, age 57, of Canton, passed away suddenly early Monday morning. A life resident of Canton, Zania was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister who spent her life giving to others. We were so blessed that she touched so many people's lives with her love and kindness. Zania will be missed more than words can ever express. She was a 1961 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Zania was retired from Charter One Bank. Preceded in death by her father, Nicholas J. Terse. She is survived by her mother, Nore Terse of Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Lenore and Robert Jones of Massillon; sons and daughters-in-law, Nick and Terri Slovick of Canton, Frank and Julie Slovick of Greentown; grandchildren, Kristy, Brandon, Anthony Jones, Nicolena Slovick, Christopher and Justin, Brittany, and Tyler Slovick; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rae and Mike Pariano, Teresa and Sam Notturno all of Canton; brother and sister-in-law, Lou and Diane Terse of North Canton; aunts, Mary Franyish and Adeline Mazzarella both of Canton. Friends may call on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. in the ROSSI FUNERAL HOME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Zania's name can be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital. God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He put His arms around her and whispered Come with me. With tear-filled eyes, we watched her suffer and fade away, although we loved her deeply, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove that He only takes the best.
