Carlene J. Sorino
Carlene J. Sorino (nee Ramirez), 65, a lifelong resident of Lorain, died Sunday at her home after being ill for seven months.
A 1952 Lorain High School graduate, she was an expediter for the former Lorain Products/Reliance Corp. for 25 years before retiring in 1997.
Mrs. Sorino was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain. She also belonged to St. Ann's Lodge Branch 114 of the first Slovak Catholic Ladies Union. At one time, she was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Drill Team.
For many years, she enjoyed bowling in the Slovak Social Bowling League at the Slovak Home in Lorain.
She enjoyed shopping, gardening and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Robert R.; a daughter, Linda Buckosh of Lorain; two grandchildren; a brother, Ray Ramirez of Annapolis, Md.; a sister, Mary Slauter of Lorain; and Mrs. Sorino's twin brother, Carl.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Jr., in 1987, and her parents, Ramon and Agnes (nee Majkut) Ramirez.
Friends may call 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, where services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
A Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David Novak, pastor, will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

Junior services
Services for Eddie Junior, 83, of Lorain, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Baptist Church, 334 17th St., Elyria.
Junior
The Rev. J. Howard Timmons and the Rev. William Campbell, pastors, will officiate. Mr. Junior died Monday at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a long illness.
Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church.
Born in Oakchia, Ala., he moved from Meridian, Miss., to Elyria, in 1946. He lived in Lorain for the past 11 years.
He worked at U.S. Steel as a steel laborer in the coke plant before retiring in 1979. U.S. Steel is now known as Republic Technologies International Inc.
Mr. Junior was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Elyria for more than 50 years. He also belonged to United Steelworkers Local 1104.
Survivors include a son, Albert of Elyria; daughters Jessie Wilson of Lorain and Dora H. Brown of Brunswick; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brothers Matthew Harmon of Elyria and Earnest Harmon of Sandusky; and a sister, Hettie Johnson of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dora Retta Junior; his second wife, Cora (nee Allen); a daughter, Georgia Junior; his parents Albert J. Junior and Maggie Junior-Blackmon; a sister Luberta Banks; his twin brother, Robert Junior; and two other brothers, Daniel Junior and Richard Harmon.
The Carter Funeral Home, 127 W. Bridge St., Elyria, is handling arrangements.
Leroy James Craighead
Leroy James Craighead, 84, of East Cleveland and formerly of Oberlin, died Tuesday at Kethley House in Cleveland following a long illness.
Born in Oberlin he had lived there since 1965.
He was a 1935 graduate of Oberlin High School.
Mr. Craighead served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946.
He worked for the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority in the maintenance department, retiring in 1982.
Survivors include his daughter, Aishah Basil "Deborah" Mayes of Jamaica, N.Y., and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Effie May (nee Mason) Craighead.
A private family graveside service will be held at Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cowling Funeral Home, 228 S. Main St., Oberlin.
Myrtle E. Kirby
Myrtle E. Kirby (nee Halstead), 78, of Vermilion, died Thursday at her home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Eckman, N.D., she had been a resident of Vermilion for the past 15 years, moving there from Lorain.
She was a member of Vermilion Auxiliary AMVETS Post 22 and Vermilion Auxiliary VFW 7576 and worked as a bartender for the VFW.
Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Caruso of Syracuse, N.Y., Myrtle E. Browning of Vermilion, Betty Gray of Prairie Hill, Texas, and Cynthia Kotcher of Vermilion; son Lonnie Kirby of Clyde, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters LaVern Bepple of Grand Coalee, Wash., Pearl Tengesdale of Maxbass, N.D., Florence Milbeth of Oakes, N.D., and Violet Goodwin of Hacket, Ark.; and brothers Derald Halstead of Hannibell, N.Y., Butch Halstead of West Port, Mass., and Lester Halstead of Maxbass, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth B. Sr. and a son, Kenneth B. Jr.

Madeline M. Young
Madeline M. Young, 84, of Nicktown, Pa., and formerly of Olmsted Falls died Wednesday at Miner's Hospital in Hastings, Pa., following a sudden illness.
Arrangements will be announced by the Busch-Bogner Family Chapel, 36403 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville.

Services for Deward H. Winningham, 69, of LaGrange, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Blackburn Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton.
The Rev. Mark Cannon, pastor of LaGrange United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Mr. Winningham died Monday at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a long illness.

Born in Pickett County, Tenn., he lived in the LaGrange area since 1952.
He belonged to LaGrange United Methodist Church for many years.
Mr. Winningham was a painter at York International in Elyria for 38 years before retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed hunting, gardening, woodworking and auto racing.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Violet (nee Myers); a daughter, Kathy Clark of Wellington; sons Robert and Marvin, both of Elyria and David of Vermilion; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Donald of Gaston, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shellie and Ethel Winningham, and a brother.
Hubert E. Phillips
Hubert E. Phillips, 63, of Amherst died Sunday at Community Health Partners in Lorain after a long illness.
Born in Oneida, Tenn., he was raised in Tennessee until moving to Amherst in 1956.
Mr. Phillips worked as a loader for the Ford Motor Co. Lorain Assembly Plant for 37 years, retiring in 1996.
He was an active member of the Midway Baptist Church in Elyria.
He belonged to the King Solomon Mason Lodge in Elyria, was a 32nd degree Mason of the Cleveland Scottish Rite and belonged to the Al Koran Shrine in Cleveland, where he served the community driving the Shriner Hospital Transportation Bus for children.
He was awarded the Al Koran Shrine Service award by his lodge.
In his spare time, he raised bees.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Elsie E. (nee Walker); son Timothy R. Phillips of Vermilion; daughters Cassie Stevens of Orlando, Fla., Judy Corder of Milan, Debora Phillips and Janet Wilbur, both of Vermilion; his mother, Artie Phillips of Oneida, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers Floyd of Vermilion, Curtis of Gellico, Tenn., Ronnie of Oberlin, Osbie of Amherst and Delyn of Winfield, Tenn.; sisters Sue Phillips of Oberlin, twins Jean Stanley and Dean West, both of Oneida, Tenn., Gayle Buttram of Oneida, Tenn., Sheliah Harris of Amherst and Barbara Walker of Oberlin.

Catherine M. Meyers (nee Murray), 79, of Amherst died Thursday at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst following a lengthy illness.

John J. Horvath, 75, of Elyria died Thursday at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain following a short illness.

Thomas Fleming Macha
Thomas Fleming Macha, 54, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday while visiting at the home of his mother in Oberlin, following a long illness.
Born in Cleveland, he resided in Washington, Iowa, where he was employed by the GTE Co. for 33 years as an installer.
Mr. Macha served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Penny (nee Green) of Washington, Iowa; mother Mary Macha of Oberlin; sister Carolyn Macha of Oberlin; and a brother, Victor of Olmsted Falls.
Services and burial will be in Washington, Iowa, where arrangements will be handled by the Jones Funeral Home, 116 E. Main St., Washington, Iowa.
Local arrangements are being handled by the Norton Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington.
Gloria J. Schultz
Gloria J. Schultz, 49, of Sheffield Lake, died Wednesday at Community Health Partners in Lorain following a four-month battle with cancer.
Born in Fairmont, W.Va., she had lived in Sheffield Lake for 18 years, relocating from Westlake.
Mrs. Schultz was a 1969 graduate of North Ridgeville High School.
She worked as an office manager at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Avon and the Corinthian Nursing Home in Westlake, retiring in 1999.
Besides spending holidays with her family, she enjoyed camping, boating, traveling, sewing and cooking.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Clarence Jr.; a son, Jeff M. at home; a daughter, Lori M. Neal of Vinegrove, Ky.; her mother, Dora Lou (nee Furbee) Jenkins of Avon Lake; and brothers Larry Jenkins of Avon Lake and John Jenkins of Berea.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frazier Jenkins.
Friends may call 3 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake.

Barbara JoAnn Burns Jenkins
Barbara JoAnn Burns Jenkins, 49, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of New London, died Sunday at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
She was born in New London.
Mrs. Jenkins was a 1969 graduate of Elyria High School.
She attended the Woodyard Avenue Church of God in Christ in Elyria before moving to Louisville.
Mrs. Jenkins enjoyed cooking and being a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Jenkins of Louisville, Ky.; a son, Michael Irving Board of Louisville, Ky.; a granddaughter; a brother, Willie Gene Burns of Elyria; three sisters, the Rev. Duffie Mae Todd of Elyria and Margie Ann Burns and Ruth Lean Burns Howell, both of Mansfield; an aunt; a nephew, William Breland of Lorain, who grew up with her; and several other nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Corine (nee Mitchell) Burns; brothers Willie Moses Williams, Jimmy D. Burns, Charlie Joe Burns, Leroy Burns and Eugene Christian Burns; sisters Corine Love and Lillie Mae Burns; and her grandparents, Claude and Duffie (nee Cook) Kinsolow.
