Mary K. Burns
Mary K. Burns (nee Bauer), 89, of Lorain died Sunday at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain after a long illness.
Born in Coraopolis, Pa., she moved to Ohio and was raised in Lorain. She lived in Amherst from 1978 to 1993 and then moved back to Lorain.
She and her husband began the Bay Mechanical and Electrical Corp. in 1948, where she was the treasurer for many years.
Mrs. Burns was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst.
Survivors include her son, Terry W. of Amherst; a daughter, Karen Setzfand of Cleveland; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Eleanor Dotson of Cleveland.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William, in 1988; her father, Ulrich Bauer, in 1955; her mother, Eleanora (nee Royer) Bauer, in 1961; and a sister, Edna Cook.
A memorial service was Tuesday for the family at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.
The Rev. Gary Bernath, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiated.
Burial was in Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon.

Evelyn M. Baker
Evelyn M. Baker, 84, of Lorain died Thursday at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Avon after a long illness.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Dombrowski-Wohlever-Volak Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain.
The funeral home will announce other arrangements.
Eleanor M. Frabotta
Eleanor M. Frabotta (nee Heft), 75, of Elyria died Monday at LifeCare Center of Elyria following a long illness.
Born in Lorain, she lived in LaGrange for most of her life.
Mrs. Frabotta was a member of St. Mary Church in Elyria and belonged to the church's Altar and Rosary Society.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 12 where she was a past president; the Past President's Parley of Unit 12 and served as Chapeau of the 8 & 40 of Salon of the Unit. She was also a past president of the Elyria Chapter of Gold Star Mothers.
Mrs. Frabotta enjoyed bowling, sewing and making crafts.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynette Frabotta, and a sister, Virginia Holtwich, both of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in 1996; her son, Brian, in 1971; her father, Lewis Heft; her mother, Elsie Sanders; and stepfather, Ed Sanders.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Laubenthal-DeCarlo Funeral Home, 257 Washington Ave. in Elyria, where the Altar and Rosary Society will recite the rosary at 5 p.m. Thursday and the American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in the funeral home followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria.
The Rev. Gary J. Malin, associate pastor, will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Grafton.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Thelma Cora Meschke
Thelma Cora (nee Stiles) Meschke, 90, of Grafton died Wednesday at the Elyria United Methodist Village.
Meschke
She was born in Norwalk.
Mrs. Meschke graduated in 1928 from Elyria High School and was a 1931 graduate of the MB Johnson School of Nursing as a registered nurse.
She was a special duty nurse at different hospitals for one year and then worked at the Cleveland City Hospital.
Mrs. Meschke also worked as a city health nurse for one year in Elyria.
She retired in 1971 from Elyria Memorial Hospital after working for 30 years as assistant head nurse on the maternity floor, where she was know as "Mom Meschke."
Mrs. Meschke enjoyed fishing, reading, painting and needlework.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Brenda Meschke; a granddaughter, Whitney Meschke of Toledo; a grandson, Michael Meschke of Grafton; and a sister, Sylvia VanNeil.
She was preceded in death by her son, James M. Meschke; a daughter, Sue Ann Meschke; and a sister, Hilda Fields.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Busch Curtis Scheuffler Family Chapel, 114 Second St., Elyria.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Chuck Keesee officiating.
Burial will be at River Road Cemetery, LaGrange Township.

Dennis H. Shermak
Dennis H. Shermak, 58, of North Ridgeville died Wednesday at the Cleveland Clinic following a sudden illness.
Born in Elyria, he was a lifelong North Ridgeville resident.
He had been a manager of several local businesses.
Mr. Shermak was a member of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church in North Ridgeville.
He enjoyed boating, camping, gardening and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Christine (nee Michalko); sons Rick of North Ridgeville and Carl of Avon; a daughter, Tina Shermak of North Ridgeville; four grandchildren and a brother, Ronald of Sagamore Hills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Vivian (nee Herman).

Rita 'Jeannie' Pabon
Rita "Jeannie" Pabon (nee Nemeth), 51, of Sheffield Lake, died Thursday [Oct. 12, 2000] at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a lengthy illness.

Stephen C. Horosz
Stephen C. Horosz, 64, of Amherst, and formerly of Lorain, died Friday at Cleveland Clinic following a lengthy illness.
Born in Lorain, he had been a resident of Amherst for 29 years.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and the Reserves until 1963.
He worked as an inspector for U.S. Steel for 28 years before retiring in 1999.
Mr. Horosz was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Lorain.
He enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe. He visited Italy, Germany and Poland. He was a Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed doing yard work and spending time with his grandson, Kyle.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Connie (nee Ksiazk); a son, Thomas of Amherst; a daughter, Jan O’Malley of Avon Lake; a grandson; a sister, Jane Fantin of Englewood, Fla.; and a brother, Louis Kacso of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his son, James, in 1996; parents, Stephen and Yolanda (nee Shafer); a brother, William; and a sister, Carol Astorino.

Michael R. Keiper
Michael R. Keiper, 40, of Elyria, died Friday at Community Health Partners West in Lorain following a long illness.
Born in Elyria, he was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Keiper was employed as a nurse’s aide by Elyria United Methodist Village for many years.
Survivors include his mother, Pearl (nee Zimmerman) Keiper of Elyria; sisters Robin Strickland of Columbia, Tenn., and Susan Keiper of Elyria; a brother, William Keiper Jr. of Elyria; two nieces; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Keiper Sr., in 2001.
Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Road and state Route 57, Elyria, where funeral services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Leonard Charles “Blackie” Lewis
Leonard Charles “Blackie” Lewis, 83, of North Ridgeville, died Monday at Elyria Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
Born in Cleveland, he had been a resident of North Ridgeville for the last 42 years, moving from Elyria.
Mr. Lewis served in the Army in World War II under Gen. Patton. He was one of only seven soldiers of the 291st Infantry, 2nd Division, to survive while serving in Normandy.
He also served in northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and central Europe. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze stars.
He was a life member of VFW Post 9871, North Ridgeville, and a member of UAW Local 1250. He attended St. Peter Church.
Mr. Lewis enjoyed socializing with friends and family and loved dogs.
Survivors include daughters Lynda L. Krueger of North Ridgeville, Donna J. Brandon of Sheffield and Carol R. Nagy of Elyria; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth T. (nee Urban), in 1980; his parents, Charles and Florence; brothers Bill and Clarence Chandler; and sisters Gladys Kekic and Bernice Korda.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, with V.F.W. Post 9871 conducting full military honors.
