Charles Dennis Gallion
Charles Dennis Gallion, 53, of Elyria, died Sunday at his home following a sudden illness.
Born in Elyria, he was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1967 graduate of Elyria High School.
He had served as a police officer with the Elyria Police Department for 23 years before retiring in Sept. 2002. He was a graduate of the Ohio Highway Patrol Academy and spent most of his time on the force in the detective bureau.
Mr. Gallion received many commendations while on the police force, and was a member of Fraternal Order of Police.
He was a collector of die-cast scale tractor-trailers and enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include daughters Jeannine Lowery of Spencer and Brandi Gallion of Elyria; his mother, Helen (nee Sexton), of Elyria; eight grandchildren; brothers Tim of Grayson, Ky., Mike of Winterhaven, Fla., and Buddy of LaGrange; and sisters Kathy Kolhoff and Cinda Gallion, both of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his father, Estill Gallion, in 2001, and two nephews.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bush-Curtis-Scheuffler Family Chapel, 114 Second St., Elyria.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Edna F. Giebel
Edna F. Giebel (nee Garrison), 103, of Elyria, died Saturday at Elyria United Methodist Village in Elyria.
Born in Jamestown, Pa., she had lived in Elyria since 1919.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria and had been housekeeper for the Cleveland Catholic Diocese until her retirement in 1970.
Before that, she worked at Elyria Memorial Hospital and Elyria High School.
She also worked as a salesperson for the Merthe Co. in downtown Elyria and taught organ lessons.
She enjoyed music, sewing and her family.
Survivors include daughters Marcia C. Sobotka and Phyllis L. Giebel, both of Elyria; a sister, Marcia Wilson of McKeesport, Pa.; and 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Charles Giebel, in 1951; a son, Charles E., in 1999; a great-grandson; a brother, Clifford Garrison; and a sister, Gladys Tompkins.
Services will be private.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, Elyria, is handling arrangements.
David H. Gillespie
David H. Gillespie, 62, of Elyria, died Monday at EMH Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
Born in East Chicago, Ind., he had lived in Elyria since 1970. He was a 1959 graduate of Grafton Midview High School.
Mr. Gillespie served in the Army in the early 1960s and worked as a stationary engineer for Ford Motor Co., Brook Park, for 42 years. He also served as a supervisor and union steward.
He enjoyed boxing, fishing and automobiles.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Marlene (nee Bigos); his father and stepmother, Lester Lynn and Goldie Gillespie, of Elizabethtown, Ky.; sister Sharon Corbin of Philo, Ohio; half-brother Lenny Gillespie of Elizabethtown; two nieces; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Hilda (nee Pickens).
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bush-Curtis Scheuffler Family Chapel, 114 Second St., Elyria.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Pastor Larry Nocella of Camden Baptist Church, Wellington, will officiate.
Internment will be in Elizabethtown.
Mary L. Martin
Mary L. Martin (nee Burill), 87, of Elyria, died Monday at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria.
She was a lifelong resident of Elyria and a 1942 graduate of Elyria High School.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and playing cards.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Chase of Elyria; sons Thomas A. of LaGrange, David G. of Lorain, James A. of Elyria and Kenneth L. of Wellington; four grandchildren; sisters Benice LaPointe of Ladysmith, Wisc., and Darlene Lewis and Carol Eddy, both of Elyria; and brothers Clarence of Tulsa, Okla., and Robert of Ladysmith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, in 1985; her parents, Clarence and Marie; and sisters Phyllis Roth and Patricia Critchfield.
Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The Rev. B. Robert Bjelica, pastor of Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Elyria, will officiate.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
Stella R. “Bubby” Ogle
Stella R. “Bubby” Ogle (nee Mach), 81, of Lakeside, died Sunday at Grace Hospital in Amherst following a lengthy illness.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by David Bogner Family Funeral Home.
Thomas Partlow Sr.
Thomas Partlow Sr., 75, of Elyria, died Saturday at EMH Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Saluda, S.C., he moved to Elyria in 1952.
He was a retired employee of Elyria Foundry with 40 years of service, working in almost every position in the mill. In 1993 he was presented an award for perfect attendance.
He was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Elyria, where he served as senior usher, trustee and assistant treasurer.
Mr. Partlow was a member of AFL-CIO 45 and Sidonia Masonic Lodge 93 F&AM of Elyria.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Gracie Partlow; a daughter, Maelene Cole of Elyria; sons Thomas Partlow Jr. of Elyria, Levoyur Partlow of Jacksonville, Fla., David Partlow of Clinton, Md., and William Mitchell of Greenville, Ala.; a brother, Hosea Partlow of Elyria; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Laura Partlow; a sister, Eddie M. Matthews; and brothers, Arthur and James.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 614 West River North, where services will be noon on Wednesday.
The Rev. M.L. Cunningham, pastor, will officiate.
Burial in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
Sidonia Masonic Lodge 93 will conduct a Masonic service 7:30 p.m. today at the church.

Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ Rock
Elizabeth A. “Betty” Rock (nee McLaughlin), 82, of Grafton, died Saturday at her home after a short illness.
Born in Drumright, Okla., she lived in Grafton for many years.
She and her late husband, Roy, ran the Blueberry Farm in Grafton for 40 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Breakey of Grafton; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and sisters Louise Norris and Ruth Scebbi, both of Dolan Springs, Ariz., and Marjoe Schaefer of Valley City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 1986, and a sister, Marie McLaughlin.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be announced by Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home.
