Mrs. Giovanna “Jo Anne” Buccafurni, 87 of Steubenville went to be with her Savior and Lord on July 20th after an extended illness. She was born Giovanna Graziano in Iarcuso, Calabria Italy on June 16, 1920 to Dominic and Santina Moio Graziano. Jo Anne married her late husband Anthony Buccafurni in the town of Iacurso Italy in 1943. In 1953 with their two children Dominic and Elizabeth they sailed to America for a better life and settled in Steubenville Ohio where their daughter Santina was born. Jo Anne was very proud of her Italian birthplace and heritage but would promptly let you know upon speaking with her that as soon as the family settled in America they learned the English language and were honored to become hard working American citizens. Anthony and Jo Anne were married for 42 years at his passing in 1985. Jo Anne’s life centered around her family, her friends and her faith. She dearly loved being Mama to her three children, Nani to her four grandchildren and Nina to her six great-grandchildren. The Steubenville Italian community of friends, members of St. Anthony church and local neighbors she leaves behind have lost a very generous, always loving and joyful friend. So many have been blessed through the years by her kisses, hugs, wonderful cooking, beautiful crocheting, embroidery and her faithful prayers. What a blessing to be able to have so many memories of her loving and giving spirit. Jo Anne leaves behind three children who adored her; son Dominic Buccafurni and his wife Molly, daughter Elizabeth Greene and her husband Gary, and daughter Sandy Buccafurni all of Steubenville. She was cherished as Nani to her grandchildren Christiana Buccafurni Coy of Fairlawn Oh, Sonya Delaney and husband Tim of Columbiana, OH, Michael Buccafurni and wife Jennifer of Steubenville OH, and Jason Greene and wife Jennifer of Annapolis Maryland. Her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Logan Coy along with Ian, Evan, Noah and Ainsley Delaney will miss her loving hands. Jo Anne also leaves behind in the Calabria region of Italy a brother, Bruno Graziano and wife Maria, a sister Betina Rochino and many other beloved extended family members. Though her family and friends mourn her loss, we rejoice together in a life well lived and an eternal life for her beyond this one with her Lord Jesus Christ.
