Carmen J. Costantini, 78, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, died Saturday, March 22, 2008 in Martinsburg VA Hospital. He was born August 20, 1930 in Steubenville. He was a son of the late Piero and Louise Giaquinto Costantini. He was also preceded in death by one brother Remo Costantini, and one sister Mallie Controguerra. Surviving are two brothers, John “Skeets” Costantini (Virginia) of Steubenville, and Anthony Costantini of Columbus, Ohio, and one sister Lillian Colaiacovo, of Columbus. Carmen was Catholic and served his country in the Korean War. Private services were held today at the Mosti Funeral Home Sunset Chapel with Msgr. Gerald Calovini. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Alice Violi - STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Alice Kister Violi, beloved wife and mother, of Steubenville, passed away at Lancia Villa Royale Nursing Home on Thursday, March 1, 2007, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer Disease. Alice was born July 16, 1920, in Jefferson, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Frank and Hilda (Anderson) Kister. She graduated from Kingsville High School in 1936. Alice was a member of the former LaBelle View United Methodist Church and the Wintersville Methodist Church. When her children were young, she was in charge of Junior Church and Co-Director of Youth Activities at the LaBelle View UM Church. Alice was very active and was a member of the Eastern Star; Sereno Chapter 128 in McArthur, Ohio; The Ladies Oriental Shrine; and Thea Court 5 in Columbus, Ohio. She was also a member of the Golden Sphinx Club of Steubenville where she held all the offices and was secretary until the club closed. In addition, she was a member of the Alpha Phi Delta Ladies auxiliary. Alice loved to bowl. She was a member of the International Bowling Congress and served as director of The Steubenville Woman’s Bowling Association. She served for 18 years as the secretary of the Unpredictable Ladies Bowling League. She was also a member of the Murray’s Mixed Doubles and the Sunsetters League. She made artillery shells during World War II at Wheeling Steel. When her girls were older, she worked for The Carlisle-Allen Company Store in Steubenville. She was Manager of the Cooper-Cline Company Store and retired in 1975. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hilda Kister and ten brothers and sisters, Laura Williamson, Edith Shaw, George Kister, Betty Lewis, Bernard Kister, Mildred DeGroot, Elmer Kister, John Kister, Marjorie Campbell and Earl Kister. Alice is survived by her husband of 63 years, Anthony, former Big Red Band Director; her three daughters and their families, Joyce Mathews of Pataskala, Ohio, Linda Deming of Pownal, Maine and Marcia Sobieski of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alice’s memory to either: Valley Hospice, 380 Summit Avenue, Steubenville, OH 43952 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 3229 Burnet Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45229. Visiting hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mosti Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6 with the Reverend Clint Quillen officiating. Entombment at the Union Cemetery Mausoleum in Steubenville.
