Fernando Rodriguez
ASHTABULA Fernando Rodriguez Sr., 68, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in his home.
He was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Coamo, Puerto Rico, the son of Justin and Ines (Melendez) Rodriguez.
He worked for Losely Nursery until his retirement in 1985. Previously he worked for Sunleaf Nursery and Amfac-Horton Nursery.
Mr. Rodriguez was a member of St. Joseph Church in Ashtabula. He enjoyed cooking, hosting pig roasts, gardening and, most importantly, spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Maria (Peguero), whom he wed Dec. 28, 1964; sons: Hector, Fernando "Pete" and Carlos, all of New Jersey, Julio of Seattle, Wash., and Jose "Ralph" of Virginia; daughters: Lydia and Iris, both of New Jersey, Marina Rivera and Carmen, both of Ashtabula; 16 grandchildren; his brothers: Martin and Juan; and sisters: Carmen, Virginia, Basilisa and Josifina, all of Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Fernando Jr. in 1995; brothers: Baro, Candido and Rafael; and sisters, Ines and Ana.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula.

Bertha C. Pinyard
ASHTABULA - Bertha C. (Topper) Pinyard, 85, of Elyria, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Ashtabula, following a long illness.
Born Feb. 24, 1915, in Dunlo, Pa., she was the daughter of Anthony and Ella Walsh.
Mrs. Pinyard had lived in Elyria since 1946. She was co-owner and an operator at the Paul-Bertha's Beauty Salon on Cleveland Street in Elyria for 35 years.
Mrs. Pinyard was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria, the Altar and Rosary Society, St. Jude's Seniors, the Legion of Mary and the St. Francis Mission (Indian Mission).
She was a 1932 graduate of Adams Township High School in Sidman, Pa.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Kovacs of Ashtabula; two sons, C. Patrick of Plano, Texas, and Michael of Peterborough, N.H.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil L., in October 1981; her parents; a daughter, Mary Beth Hagerty; two sisters, Mary Betz and Madaline Walsh; and two brothers, Charles Walsh and John George.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Reichlin-Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St., Elyria. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria, with the Rev. Frank P. Kosem officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Florence C. Oligher
ASHTABULA - Florence C. Oligher, 69, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Coraopolis, Pa., the daughter of John and Theresa (Koval) Hassick and had been an Ashtabula resident most of her life.
Mrs. Oligher attended Kent State University, Ashtabula campus, and worked as a case worker for the Ashtabula County Department of Human Services prior to retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Hall of Strongsville; a son, Kurt of Dallas; a brother, Jack Hasak of Cape Coral, Fla.; a sister, Delores Ruffing of Corona del Mar, Calif.; and her mother of Corona del Mar, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Service is noon Thursday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Philip Miller, pastor of St. Joseph Church, will officiate.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Fred Myles Bobbitt Sr
ASHTABULA - Fred Myles Bobbitt, Sr., 66, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000. at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Mr. Bobbitt was born June 27, 1934, in Seebert, W.Va., the son of Fred O. and Mary (Woolwine) Bobbitt and had been an Ashtabula County resident since 1944.
Mr. Bobbitt was a former Marine, serving in the Korean War and as a reservist from 1954 to 1959.
He was employed by the former Electromet for 17 years and as a truck driver for Linde Air for 20 years.
A member of the Gageville United Methodist Church, he was a past steward for Local 3081 United Steel Workers of America, and was also a past steward for Teamsters Local 377.
Mr. Bobbitt enjoyed his family, golfing, and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Patricia (Parks); four daughters, Margaret Theresa and Bonnie Linda from a previous marriage, and Debra Scott of Ashtabula and Kathleen Mixer of Saybrook; three sons, Fred, Jr. of Sharpsburg, Ga., Christopher of Jefferson, and James of Ashtabula; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Stella May of Tiffin and a brother, Roy of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold; two sisters, Mary Sharpe and Margaret Hill; and a grandson, Robert Scott.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday in the Gageville United Methodist Church, 4063 Route 193, Sheffield Township. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville

James L. Kelley
ASHTABULA - James L. Kelley, 44, of North Bend Road, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born June 19, 1956, in Ashtabula, he was the son of Carl and Gertrude (Hunter) Kelley, Sr. He had been a lifelong resident of Ashtabula. He married Kim Gardner on Oct. 20, 1990, in Ashtabula.
He was employed at Ashtabula Rubber Co. for the last 28 years.
Mr. Kelley belonged to the Ashtabula Athletic Boosters and attended Saybrook United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed being around his children and their activities. He also enjoyed woodworking and tinkering around the house.
Survivors include his mother; his wife; a daughter, Megan Kelley of Geneva; a stepdaughter, Megan Reed and a stepson Danny Reed, both of Ashtabula; three brothers, Carl Jr. of Rome, Raymond of Washington, and Kevin of North Carolina; and a sister, Darlene of Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dean Funeral Home, 3137 E. Center St., North Kingsville. The Rev. Donna Van Trees of Saybrook United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Garden, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Howard L. Pinney
ASHTABULA - Howard L. Pinney Jr., 74, of Main St., died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Geneva.
He was born June 4, 1926, in Ashtabula, the son of Howard L. and Mildred (Rounds) Pinney Sr. and has been a lifetime area resident.
Mr. Pinney was a veteran of the Army serving in World War II in the European Theater of Operations.
He was employed with Flower Coal as a truck driver and prior to that worked for Lockee Lee Dairy.
Mr. Pinney was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 943 of Ashtabula and the Teamsters Union. His hobbies were country music and watching westerns.
Survivors include three sons, Harold L. and Randy Lee Pinney of Ashtabula and Keith A. Pinney of Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Dale of Ashtabula; four sisters, Shelia Fitzer of Ashtabula, Jeanette Beasler of Rock Creek, Tammy Tinker of Kingsville and Ramona Honkonen of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leona Pinney in 1977; a daughter, Judith Ann; and a brother, Balda Pinney.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Sunday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kenneth Roberts of the Pentecostal Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hour will be 10 a.m. to the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Ernest C. Couture
ASHTABULA - Ernest C. Couture, 95, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born May 2, 1908 in Port Clinton, OH, the son of Alfred and Dora (Cover) Couture. He married Ina E. Herpy on March 6, 1941.
Mr. Couture worked for Union Carbide Corp. as a maintenance supervisor, retiring in 1972. He also retired in 1971 from The Naval Reserve as a Master Chief Petty Officer. While in the military he served in WWII, Panama, and Cape Cod, MA. After retirement, Mr. Couture worked 10 years as a security guard for True Temper Corp. in Saybrook.
He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, The American Legion, The Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Joseph Church.
His survivors include one daughter, Suzanne Couture of Ashtabula; and one sister, Eleanore Leroux of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his wife on March 21, 1975; one sister, Leola Abadie; three brothers, Raymond, Gilson, and Richard Couture; and his parents.
At Mr. Couture's request, no calling hours or service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity in his name.
Services are being handled by Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Avenue, Ashtabula.
