Pearl I. Newkirk
KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP - Pearl I. Newkirk, 87, a resident of the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002.
She was born April 3, 1914, in Mount Rose, W.Va., she was the daughter of Edward and Ida Pudder.
Mrs. Newkirk had worked for the former Marshall Drug Store, Ashtabula, and the Park Avenue Diner, Ashtabula.
She enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, and her grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Hakundy of Sheffield Township; a son, Lester of Austinburg Township; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Harold Pudder of Kingsville Township; and a sister, Betty Dibell of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Robert Amsden; her husband, Ralph; three sisters, Maude Moore, Virginia Carlton, and May Vangorder; and two brothers, Bert and Oakey Pudder.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
No calling hours will be observed.
The Guerriero Funeral Home, 6280 S. Main St., North Kingsville, has charge of the arrangements.
Viola F. Crocker
CONNEAUT - Viola F. Crocker, 79, of Chestnut Street, Conneaut, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, in UHHS-Brown Memorial Hospital.
Born December 3, 1923, in Erie, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa DeFonzo Fasciano, she had resided in Conneaut for the past 55 years.
Mrs. Crocker and her late husband owned and operated the Conneaut Frozen Food Locker for over 35 years. In her leisure time, she enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include a sister, Angela St. George of Erie, PA; a brother, Louis Fasciano of Mantowaan, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Lloyd D. Crocker.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Lamb, pastor of the Church of God, officiating. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Millcreek, PA.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Shirley Holton
ASHTABULA - Shirley Holton, 69, a resident of Ashtabula, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born December 26, 1933, in Michigan, she was the daughter of Colin and Louvima (McKenzie) MacArthur.
Mrs. Holton worked as a cashier at Lakeway Restaurant in Ashtabula.
Survivors include her son, Raymond of Ashtabula; a stepson, Duane Shea of MA; four brothers, Donald, Glen, Ed and Leo, all of Michigan; and a sister, Doris Farley of Parkersburg, WV.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett; six brothers, Robert, Lyle, Russell, William, Colin, and John; and a sister, Audrey Moore.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 West 19th St., Ashtabula.
Evelyn E. Koivisto
WILLIAMSFIELD - Evelyn E. Koivisto, 80, of California Road, Williamsfield, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Andover Village Retirement Community.
Born November 12, 1922, in Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Pearl W. (Higgins) Wright.
Mrs. Koivisto was a longtime Williamsfield resident. She was a homemaker and enjoyed drawing. Evelyn married Eino Koivisto on April 13, 1952.
Survivors include her husband, Eino E. Koivisto of Williamsfield; a son, Steven E. Koivisto of Pierpont; a sister, Betty J. Johnson of New Lyme; two grandsons, Christopher S. Koivisto of Raleigh, NC, and Brock T. Stefura of Meridian, MS; and a granddaughter, Marcy L. Koivisto of Pierpont.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Koivisto; a daughter, Donna Koivisto; a grandson, Gary Koivisto; and a sister, Lois Wright.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect Street, Andover.
Calling hours will be at the funeral home also on Tuesday, at 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Williamsfield Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsfield United Methodist Church or The Salvation Army.
Slavko Matejcic
GENEVA - Slavko Matejcic, 56, of Geneva died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at UHHS Memorial Hospital of Geneva.
Born April 18, 1947, in Toncici, Croatia, the son of Milka (Brecic) and Nadalin B. Matejcic. He married Dora Valenta in Cleveland on June 14, 1969.
Mr. Matejcic owned and operated T.A.S. Corporation in Geneva.
He was a member of the Assumption Church in Geneva. Mr. Matejcic enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Dora; a son, Andy of Beavercreek; two brothers, Joseph and Mirko of Croatia; and his father, Nadalin B. Matejcic of Croatia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Milka.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Assumption Church, 594 W. Main Street, Geneva. The Rev. Paul Tobin will be officiating.
Burial will be in Toncici (Pazin), Croatia.
Visitation hours are 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva.
John Houser
SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP - John Houser, 81, of South Ridge Road, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Fairport Harbor, the son of John and Mary (Ivan) Houser. He had been an area resident for most of his life.
Mr. Houser was a 1940 graduate of Ashtabula High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, in the European Theater until his discharge in 1945.
He married the former Margaret Jedlicka on June 7, 1947.
Mr. Houser was employed by Rockwell Brake in Saybrook for 30 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ashtabula and was a lifetime member of United Auto Workers, Local 274.
He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Marge; two sons, John C. of Chaptico, Md., and Michael S. of Ashtabula; two daughters, Kathryn Murnane of Dublin, and Joan Locke of Cape Coral, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Slagle, Jillian Locke, Brendan Murnane, Joe Murnane, Stephanie Houser, John S. Houser and Steven Houser; a sister, Helen Shovelski of Ashtabula; and a special friend, Patricia Dale of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Houser; and a sister, Ethel Stephens.
Service is 4 p.m. Friday at Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula. The Rev. Philip Miller, of St. Joseph Church, Ashtabula, will officiate.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Instead of giving flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mr. Houser’s memory to the Hospice of Ashtabula County or the Saybrook Rescue Squad. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
David C. Hill
ASHTABULA - David C. Hill, 46, of Wilson Ave., died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at his home after a short illness. He was born Dec. 6, 1956 in Ashtabula, the son of Vernon and B. Juan (Nippell) Hill.
He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1975 and from Ohio University in 1979.
Mr. Hill spent his entire career as a registered nurse and nurse supervisor in emergency departments. He was employed at Ashtabula General Hospital, Brown Memorial Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic. He spent 19 years in Miami as a supervisor at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
His hobbies are sailing, skiing and travel.
Survivors include his parents of Ashtabula; and a brother, David Hill of Broadview Heights.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vernon and Myrtle Hill, Clyde Nippell and Wilma Gordon.
Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula with the Rev. Shane Nanney of the East Side Presbyterian Church officiating.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Plymouth Township.
