Kenneth Juhola
ASHTABULA - Kenneth Juhola, 70, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at his residence.
He was born March 25, 1932, in Ashtabula, to Swante and Nelma (Lintala) Juhola.
Mr. Juhola graduated from Harbor High School in 1950. He served on the U.S. Navy icebreaker, the USS Staten Island, from 1952-1956. He married Rosemary England Nov. 21, 1953.
He enjoyed all sports, especially when his sons and grandsons were playing. He was a past president of the Harbor Athletic Boosters. He worked to build the concession stand tower at Wenner Field and coached Senior League baseball teams. He built 15 miniature lighthouses to rehabilitate his shoulder after neck surgery.
Mr. Juhola retired from the Emco Wheaton Company in Conneaut in 1992, after working there as an "A" machinist 20 years.
He was a lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; sons Michael of Columbus and Daniel, Thomas and Andrew of Ashtabula; and grandchildren Andria, Danny, Greg, Kaylee, Ryan, Emily and Abby.
Funeral is 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Potti Lakeside Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, officiated by the Rev. Richard Bowen. Burial is in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6-9 p.m. Thursday.
Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Bethany Lutheran Church or to the Ireland Cancer Center in Cleveland.

Alan M. Maille
ASHTABULA - Alan M. Maille, 21, of Ashtabula, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at his home.
He was born April 22, 1981, in Ashtabula, the son of Mark A. and Teresa (Thompson) Maille.
He attended Ashtabula High School and the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School, and had been employed as a construction worker.
He enjoyed camping, spending time outdoors and playing softball.
Survivors include his father; mother, Teresa Bennett; a sister, Brandy Maille; and his maternal grandparents, Hubert and Mabel Thompson - all are of Ashtabula.
Visitation will be Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at Potti Lakeside Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. Burial of Alan's ashes will be scheduled and announced at a later date.
Contributions may be made to the family.

James R. Steen
ASHTABULA - James Roy Steen, 80, of Reed Avenue, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the hospice unit of the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Ashtabula, the son of James Sr. and Bessie (McCoy) Steen.
A graduate of Ashtabula High School, he was plant manager at Ashtabula Bow Socket for 44 years. Mr. Steen also served as auditor of the ABS Credit Union for 42 years before retiring.
He attended Kent State University­ Ashtabula campus for numerous business and management classes during his tenure at ABS.
Mr. Steen was a member of the Windjammers Citizens Band Radio Club for 35 years and the Industrial Management Group for 30 years.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a radio operator. He transported United Service Organizations personalities, including Peggy Lee, Dick Haynes and the Andrews Sisters, to their appearances before American troops.
An active member of the Boy Scouts of America for 35 years, he served as a Cub Scout leader, a Cub Scout secretary/treasurer, and as a commissioner for the Greater Western Reserve Scout Council. He received the Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award in 1986, and he was named "Scouter of the Year" in 1989.
He enjoyed showing his 1966 Corvair at many antique car shows throughout northeastern Ohio, where he received several trophies. He also enjoyed camping trips with the scouts, growing roses and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Rita (Wilds), whom he married July 31, 1954, at St. Joseph Church; five children, Peg Mitchell of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jeanie Brace, William Steen, John Steen and Paul Steen, all of Ashtabula; six grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Tommy, Danielle, Alyssa and Zachary.
He was preceded in death by his grandson Christopher Steen; two brothers, William and Dale Steen; an uncle, Roy Steen, who lived with him; and his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Philip Miller, pastor of the church, will preside.
Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, where the Geneva Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6846, will conduct military honors.
Calling hour is 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cub Scout Pack 13, of Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church; St. Joseph Church; or the Hospice of Ashtabula County.

Jean E. Loisi
ASHTABULA - Jean E. Loisi, 92, of West 57th Street, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
She was born March 18, 1910, in Bradford, Pa., the daughter of Robert and Emma (Hanson) Sharp. She had lived in the Ashtabula area for the past four years.
Mrs. Loisi was a sales associate at Marshall Fields in Chicago for 25 years. She enjoyed movies, animals and her grandchildren.
Survivors include her three grandchildren, Irene Collins-Shumacher of Golden, Colo., Charles Collins of Chicago, and Charlotte Buck of Jacksonville, Fla.; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Sharp of Ashtabula, with whom she lived; and a brother, Martin Sharp of Denver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick; a daughter, Charlotte Collins; a grandson, Robert Collins; and her parents.
No calling hours will be observed.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, is in charge of the arrangements.

Martha Lilya
ASHTABULA - Martha Lilya, 96, of Ashtabula, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 14, 1906, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Johan and Ruusa (Pranny) Lilja, and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.
A 1924 graduate of Harbor High School, she worked as a clerk for the Ashtabula city auditor until her retirement in 1970. She also worked for Electric Laundry many years ago.
She was a lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where she served on many different committees. She was also a member of the Finlandia Foundation.
Survivors include two nephews, Robert Price of Lakewood, and Richard Price of Washington, D.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Price; and a brother, Wayne Lilja.
Service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, 933 Michigan Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Richard Bowen will officiate. Burial will be at Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hour at the church is 1 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of Bethany Lutheran Church.
The Potti Lakeside Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.

Chester L. Allen
ASHTABULA - Chester Loomis Allen, 92, of East 26th Street, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Country Club Retirement Center.
He was born Feb. 15, 1910, in Saybrook Township, the son of Wallace and Mary (Loomis) Allen. He had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.
Before his retirement, he had worked 46 years as a purchasing agent for the Ashtabula Telephone Co.
Mr. Allen was an avid card player and especially enjoyed bridge.
Survivors include his wife, Mary C. "Connie" (McCarthy), whom he married July 3, 1941; a daughter, Connie M. Hanus of Bedford; and two grandchildren, Glenn and Julie.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas E. Allen, in 1951; a brother, Corwin Allen; two sisters, Lucille Colburn and H. Marie Weese; and his parents.
Service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church, 6920 Austinburg Road, Ashtabula. The Rev. Kathleen Evans, pastor, will officiate. The family will receive relatives and friends at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Country Club Retirement Center, 926 E. 26th St., Ashtabula.
Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Ashtabula County, 2420 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, 44004; or to the First Christian Church, 6920 Austinburg Road, Ashtabula, 44004.
Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard M. Folmer
ASHTABULA - Leonard M. Folmer, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Mr. Folmer was born Oct. 25, 1914, in Cardington, the son of Chris and Ada (Bishop) Folmer.
He was an area resident most of his life. He had worked until retirement as a security guard for Rockwell Corp. and True Temper Corp..
He also had worked as a milkman for the Conneaut Creamery and Lockie Lee Dairy.
Mr. Folmer was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the North End Club and also enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, and reading.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice (Motta); two daughters, Priscilla Folmer of Ashtabula and Rebecca Crawford of Geneva; and a grandson, Christopher Crawford of Geneva.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lloyd; and two sisters, Lois Folmer and Lucille Holcomb.
Services is 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Potti Lakeside Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kevin Peters of Mother of Sorrows officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Saybrook Township
Visitation is from 2 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
