Betty J. Lewis
ASHTABULA - Betty Jane Lewis, 72, of West 38th Street, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at her home.
She was born Dec. 3, 1929, in Jefferson, to George and Marjorie (Bliss) Bolte. She was a lifelong area resident and moved to Ashtabula at 16.
Mrs. Lewis worked for Mikkelsen's Greenhouse and also as a waitress at Lake Shore Lanes.
Mrs. Lewis was known for her holiday cooking and sense of humor. She enjoyed her family. She also enjoyed making doughnuts and fudge, baking homemade bread, and making candy and popcorn balls.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Johnson and Connie Lewis, both of Ashtabula; three sons, Danny Lewis, Douglas Lewis and Dale Lewis, all of Ashtabula; six grandchildren, D.J. Close, Rodney Johnson, Christina Sisk, Danny A. Lewis, Harmony Lewis and Melody Lewis; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buzzie Lewis, in 1981; two sisters, Georgia Hoffman and Marjorie Levander; one brother, Fred Bolte; and her parents.
Service will be 8 p.m. Thursday at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2929 Carpenter Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. John Jones, pastor, officiating.
Calling hour will be 7 p.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the church.

Ermond W. McKee
ASHTABULA - Ermond W. McKee, 83, died Monday, at Jefferson Geriatric Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Nov. 14, 1918, in New Lyme, to Samuel J. and Ruth A. (Ellis) McKee. He was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. McKee retired from Operating Engineers Local 18 as a heavy-equipment operator.
Mr. McKee married Helen P. Clontos, May 12, 1949. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and working as crane operator at the Ashtabula Yacht Club.
Mr. McKee was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ashtabula, a life member of VFW Post 943Ashtabula, a life member of the East Ashtabula Club, a past governor and life member of Moose Lodge 547-Ashtabula, and a member of American Legion 103Ashtabula, Teamsters Local 337 and Operating Engineers 18.
Mr. McKee was a U.S. Army veteran and served with the 29th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II.
Survivors include sons C. James of Ashtabula, Danny W. of Dorset, and foster son Carl Kirkingberg, of Indianapolis; four daughters, Patricia E. Weldon of Dover, Pa., Susan J. McKee of Tampa, Fla., Nancy A. Kalinowski of North Kingsville, and Sally B. Garner of Ashtabula; a sister, Ruth A. Chidester of Ashtabula; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, in 1993; a daughter, Janice Dute; three brothers, Andrew, Samuel and William; and three sisters Eva Claar, Edna Ladig and Catherine McKee, who died in infancy.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Burton Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Virgil Reeves of First Baptist Church, Ashtabula, is officiating.
Calling hours are Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
Donations may be made to the Shriners. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Frances M. Penna
ASHTABULA - Frances Marie Penna, 60, of Ashtabula, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at UHHS Memorial Hospitals of Geneva.
She was born March 2, 1942, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Ralph and Elizabeth (Fowler) Penna, and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.
She worked many years as a ward clerk at Ashtabula General Hospital.
She had a deep interest in the accomplishments of her family, enjoyed photography, collected Norman Rockwell memorabilia and made ceramics. She was also fond of animals and loved dogs.
Survivors include two sisters, Virginia DeCola of Ashtabula, and Louise Malizia of Willoughby and Naples, Fla.; and a foster sister, Geraldine Fugitt of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lawrence Penna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Philip Miller, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the family grave site in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

Dorothy E. Kimmy
ASHTABULA - Dorothy Elizabeth Kimmy, 86, of East 46th Street died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born March 26, 1916, in Cedarville, the daughter of Forrest and Cloe (Spracklen) Kennedy.
A resident of Ashtabula for more than 35 years, Mrs. Kimmy graduated from Pittsburgh Business College and worked as a cook and caterer for 60 years. While employed at Devereaux's Catering she worked with Reliance Electric and Kent State University Ashtabula Campus. She previously worked for Holiday Inn and managed the Grotto.
Mrs. Kimmy was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed bingo.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol Jaros of Deerfield, Linda Lathrop and Dorothy Massena, both of Ashtabula; two sons, Joseph Bemme of Jefferson and Andy Turley of Chesapeake, Va.; eight grandchildren, Gerald, Dwayne, William, Robert, Samantha, Shannon, Melissa and Ronnie; seven step-grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delford Kimmy, in 1969; one grandson, A.J. Turley Jr.; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Margaret Lechner and Gladys; and her parents.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Stephen Wassie, pastor of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, presiding. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. until the service Thursday at the funeral home.
ROBERT H. MILLER
ASHTABULA TWP. -- Robert H. Miller, age 80, formerly of Pinneytopper Road, Plymouth Township, and a resident of Austinburg Road, Ashtabula Township, died Wednesday morning, April 19, 2006, at the University Hospital Health System in Cleveland, where he had been a patient the past four days.
He was born March 13, 1926, in Hooversville, Pennsylvania, the son of Howard and Bessie (Housel) Miller, and has been a resident of this area since 1955, coming from Central City, Pennsylvania. Mr. Miller was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the 25th Infantry during the Korean Conflict. He was married to the former Ruth Cottle on December 18, 1951, in Hooversville, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Miller was a 28-year employee of Elkem Metals, retiring in 1984.
He attended the Jefferson Church of the Nazarene, was a member of the DAV, was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, and enjoyed camping, woodworking, crocheting and ceramics.
Survivors include three children, Barbara J. (Dale) Milano, Kathy P. (Jeffrey) Dennison, both of Ashtabula, and Robert N. (Valerie) Miller of Espyville, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, Laura Potts, Kelly Dennison, Wendi Milano, Jeffrey Dennison Jr., Kari and Andrew Dennison, and Alice, Melissa and Krista Miller; two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Morgan; two brothers, Dale Miller of Warren, and Dean Miller of North Carolina; and a sister, June Connover of Bedford, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth, in 1996; brothers, Earl, Roy, and John Miller; a half brother, Walter Turner; and two sisters, Naomi Smith and Lola Turner.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2006, at 12 p.m. at the Jefferson Home of the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 49 West Jefferson Street, Jefferson, with the Reverend Ronald Benedict officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, where Geneva Post #6846 will provide Full Military Honors.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the Funeral Home.

Franklyn A. "Capp" Risley
ASHTABULA - Franklyn A. "Capp" Risley, 61, of West 33rd Street, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born July 29, 1939, he was a son of Clyde Philip and Martha Helena (Miller) Risley and had been a lifelong Ashtabula area resident.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Risley served as a seaman for the Interlake Steamship Co.
Mr. Risley served in the U.S. Army and Air Force.
He loved to debate and play cards, especially Spades.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Ernestine (Bowens); two daughters, Kelly Sue Risely of Arizona and Kimberly Mount of Ogden, Utah; two grandchildren; and a brother, John E.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William, and his parents.
Service is 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. John Salters officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Ashtabula Township.
Calling hours are from noon until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
John E. Haller
ASHTABULA - John E. Haller, 52, of Lake Avenue, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000.
Born July 25, 1948, he was the son of Harold H. and Margaret H. (Modin) Haller and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.
He was employed at Giant Eagle and had previously worked at Goodwill Industries and Chardon Metal.
He loved fishing, playing cards, bowling and dogs.
Survivors include a daughter, LeeAnne Haller of Big Pine Key, Fla., and a sister, Patricia L. Pennington of Rock Creek.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service is noon Saturday at Gulfview Towers, 3600 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. David Crumrine officiating.
No calling hours will be observed.
