Melissa Ann Meola
ASHTABULA - Melissa Ann Meola, 21, of Ashtabula, died at home on Monday, June 9, 2003, unexpectedly.
Born June 13, 1981, in Geneva, she was the daughter of Timothy and Kathleen (Phillips) Meola.
Miss Meola was a 2003 graduate of Happy Hearts School in Kingsville Twp. She was named the 2003 Prom Queen and was recently honored at a Graduation Party at Guyreino's Deli. Melissa worked at Guyreino's Deli and also participated in summer work programs SWEEP, TRY OUT, and YO.
She was a member of the Sons of Italy of America, Anita Garibaldi Lodge, in Ashtabula.
Survivors include her parents; stepfather, Willie Guyton; sister, Miranda Meola, stepsister, Georgia Guyton; and grandmother, Betty Meola.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Mark A. Meola and Glenn H. Phillips; and her grandmother, Kathleen Phillips.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 West 19th St., Ashtabula.
Nellie Baker
ASHTABULA - Nellie A. Baker, 91, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Home.
Born April 21, 1911, in New Cumberland, W.Va., she was the daughter of Slovak immigrants, Stefan and Anna (Jacobec) Burskey.
She married LeRoy Baker on Oct. 25, 1941
Mrs. Baker worked in the office of Reliance Electric making name plates for electric motors.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Ashtabula, and she enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, flowers and gardening.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Charles of Willoughby, and Ronald of Westerville; two grandchildren, Michael and Karen; and two sisters, Emily Puskac of Mansfield, and Josephine Puskac of Upper Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Steven, Louis and Frederick; and a sister, Rose Burskey.
Mass of Christian Burial is 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Philip Miller officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.

Grace F. Imhoff
ASHTABULA - Grace F. Imhoff, 83, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at the Austinburg Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Austinburg Township.
She was born July 23, 1918, in Lincoln Township. Mich., the daughter of William and Nettie (Wilson) Gilbreath and had lived in Ashtabula County more than half her life.
She worked as an Avon sales representative for more than 40 years.
Mrs. Imhoff enjoyed cooking, pie baking, traveling, conversations, and collecting spoons and tea cups.
She was a seamstress specializing in baton costumes, and was an avid follower of the Cavs, Indians, and the Ohio State University football team.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ashtabula, and was an active supporter and follower of baton twirling.
Survivors include a son, Dewey Stout of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Marilyn Burgess of Ashtabula, and Nancy Imhoff-Smith of South Jordan, Utah; two grandchildren, Christopher Stout and Shawn Smith; three brothers, Robert Gilbreath of Texas, and William Gilbreath and Fred Polger of Michigan; and five sisters, Florence Kalny of Pennsylvania, Carol Mattera and Kathleen Peterson of Michigan, and Virginia Gonzalez and Marianne Hawley of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vincent, in 1989; a brother, Grant Gilbreath; and two sisters, Lillian Rosier and Bertha Giarmo.
Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 4317 Park Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Stephen Long officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Township Cemetery.
Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Tuesday at the church.

William R. Morris
ASHTABULA - William Richard Morris, 65, of Jefferson Avenue, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile crash.
He was born Sept. 23, 1936, in Madison, the son of Thomas J. and Martha (Whiting) Morris
He was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Jefferson High School.
Mr. Morris spent most of his life as a factory worker. He also worked for various gas stations as well as Hawkins Ambulance Service at one time.
He enjoyed fixing Ford cars and playing bingo.
Survivors include a daughter, Julie McCabe of Ashtabula; a son, William McCabe of Chillicothe; and several brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chevelle McCabe; and his parents.
Service is 4 p.m. Saturday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. David J. Adams of Grace Gospel Church officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Ashtabula Township.
Calling hours are from 3 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Leo M. Callahan
ASHTABULA - Leo Mathew Callahan, 69, of West Prospect Road, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Ashtabula, the son of John S. and Mary (Longnecker) Callahan and remained an Ashtabula resident throughout his life.
Mr. Callahan worked for the New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail railroads as an engineer, retiring September 1994.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Mr. Callahan enjoyed playing bingo, horse racing, fishing and camping. He also loved to read historical and western novels. An avid cook, he was known for his chili and vegetable soups; however, his greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Diana D. (Ralph), whom he married on Oct. 3, 1956; two daughters, Laura M. Callahan of Ashtabula and Mary Margaret "Peg" Matthews of Gahanna; five grandchildren, Richard Matthews, Bryan Matthews, Darren Dimitroff, Richard D. Alexander IV and Siobhan Alexander; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard G. of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jacqueline, in 1983; two sisters, Martha Makynen and Ann Piispanen; and a brother, John "Jack;" and his parents.
Service is 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery, where Ashtabula County United Veterans Council will conduct full military rites graveside.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today and from noon until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Clifford L. Hughes
ASHTABULA Clifford L. Hughes, 91, died Sunday, April 8, 2001.
He was born Feb. 4, 1911, in Monroeville, the son of Theodore P. and Nellie Maude (Curtis) Hughes and had been an Ashtabula area resident since 1950.
Mr. Hughes was a 1928 North High School graduate, Akron; received a bachelor of arts degree in 1933 from Ohio University; received a masters degree in 1935 from Yale University and completed additional graduate studies at Duke University through 1936.
Mr. Hughs was employed as a professor at the Citadel military college of South Carolina from 1936 to 1937; professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, N.Y., from 1937 to 1940; and Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., Akron, from 1940 to 1950, with time out to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a lt. commander in the Bureau of Naval Personnel. Washington, D.C.. From 1950 until his retirement, he worked at the Industrial Chemicals Co., Ashtabula, later known as RMI Co., where he worked as personnel manager, then as purchasing agent and traffic supervisor. He also worked for Arthur Louis Supply Co., Ashtabula, from 1976 to 1997.
Mr. Hughes was a member of the Second Congregational United Church of Chris, Ashtabula; Coventry Lodge No. 665 F&AM, Akron; Delta Tau Delta and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities; a long-time member and past commodore of Redbrook Boat Club; a long-time member and past president of the Ashtabula Rotary Club; a charter member of the Industrial Management Club of Ashtabula; past president of the Ashtabula YMCA/YWCA; a former member and president of the Harbor Exempted Village School Board, and first president of the merged school district (Ashtabula and Harbor), known as the Ashtabula Area School District; a former board member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ashtabula and a board member of Hughes Enterprises Inc., Noblesville, Ind.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas C. of Noblesville, Jeffrey C. of Mentor, and Douglas A. of North Madison; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred J. (Thomas) in 1981; a brother; and a sister.
Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Potti Lakeside Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Glen Warner of Second Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Township Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Vienna Johanna Palo
ASHTABULA Vienna Johanna Palo, 93, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Ashtabula County Club Retirement Center.
She was born Feb. 22, 1908, in Ashtabula, the daughter of John and Hannah (Rouru) Piispanen. She was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula except for a few years when she made her home with her daughter, Nancy Pearson in Amesbury, Mass.
Mrs. Palo was a graduate of Harbor High School. She married Emil W. Palo on Sept. 5, 1931. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church and enjoyed her involvement in several of the church's groups. She had worked for short periods at several bakeries.
Survivors include a brother, Hugo Piispanen of Madison; a daughter, Nancy Pearson of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Alan Westfield of Spokane, Wash., Rebecca Comeau of East Boston, Mass., Paul Westfield of Amesbury, and Jon Westfield of Lynn, Mass., and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Einar Piispanen; and a sister, Nellie Kauppila.
Service is 6 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, 933 Michigan Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. David Hofer officiating and the Rev. Richard Bowen assisting. Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 4 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church.
